Loch ness treatment. I’m delu-lu!

TomcatTiger503

I would love that. Also Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain got a refurb not too long ago to help keep it going.

DontFuckGOPMen

If they remove Demon before the fucking go karts we should riot lol. What a waste of space those karts are. Also when it was lightly raining they had FIVE employees trying to squeegee the hopelessly wet track. Use those employees elsewhere… make the food lines faster. Open a drink refresh station!

TomcatTiger503

I know they say if it’s removed it can allow more space for a new coaster because some enthusiasts said they are sick of Great America’s newer coasters being “too short” but I don’t care about the length of a coaster as long as it’s good. Demon also has S&S to back it up with Arrow reproduction parts, and it does not have design flaws like the ill-fated Shockwave that once was at the same park. Also we removed about 3 rides last year so no rush to remove another. And one is currently slowly being disassembled. (Buccaneer Battle)

DontFuckGOPMen

Cmon we do need longer coasters though, it’s our park’s shame. I would never go if we didn’t have all season flash pass because most are not worth the wait imo.

TomcatTiger503

Yet people rave about Xcelarator, Twisted Cyclone, and Storm Runner. and those are short. Plus at least they are good coasters. Better then getting something like a used SLC (La Ronde)

DontFuckGOPMen

Of course enthusiasts aren’t going to complain about Intamin hydraulics from their best era lol. Those rides are legendary to our hobby. We need a Fury equivalent imo… Chicago is a worthy city. I’d actually rather have a 400’ SkyFlyer though. I can’t believe we don’t have one :(.

TomcatTiger503

The OG Georgia Cyclone had a third lap that was cut after it’s conversion. Wicked Cyclone had kept its third lap from the original layout making the ride longer but momentum slows down.

ExUpstairsCaptain

SFGAm does need longer coasters. It's true. When I rode SFMM's Goliath, my immediate reaction was, "This is like Raging Bull if it could stretch out a bit."

bigmikebianco

Of the rides in Great America that support the reputation of short coasters, Raging Bull is not one of them. It's almost a mile long and over 500ft longer than SFMM's Goliath.

gometria

Raging bull is the second longest coaster in the park (could be the longest depending on how Eagle is operating that day)

Ampu-Tina

To address both gokarts, demon, and buccaneer battle, just saying that it would free up a huge piece of land with the three of those being removed.

TomcatTiger503

But I guess keeping Demon would keep the coaster count stable . The park claimed to have 16 coasters when Mardi Gras Hangover was still here but of course that was a goddamn Larson Loop and not a coaster, so I figured they would try to keep the number high as they can for marketing purposes. But that’s just me rambling and being a little delusional I guess about my home park because I adore it so much. \\ (·\_·) /

DionBlaster123

speaking of Mardi Gras Hangover...I saw that the park that purchased it and Revolution started advertising for Revolution! Niagara Amusement Park. they're renaming it Midway Mayhem (https://niagaraamusementpark.com/midway-mayhem/). Sad to see Revolution go but at least it seems like it is in good hands strangely though, Mardi Gras Hangover itself hasn't been advertised yet. I know it was a maintenance headache over at SFGAm...i wonder if the new park is still trying to figure stuff out too

TomcatTiger503

I saw. Gene Staples is a gem for that.

TomcatTiger503

I’m guessing I get downvoted on the post for bringing up S&S an how they provide reproduction parts for existing Arrow rides because someone that person hates this ride and is angry to know there is something keeping it going? 😅

Anonymyz_one

Upvote since Arrows are the shit! Demon at CA Great America was my first coaster and arrows are classics! Whoever downvoted you obviously doesn't realize that without Arrow modern day coasters would not be what they are

PitchBlac

Nah. We need longer quality coasters at the park. We need something that can eat up the crowds. Waiting 2 hours for multiple rides that are less than 1 minute ride time is ridiculous. Which is why I wouldn’t hate it if they RMC’ed Eagle. I just don’t trust them to properly retrack that coaster in the future for it run like it should. But I would look to replace Gokarts and Battle before Demon.

TomcatTiger503

Even if a ride is short, as long as it is thrilling and enjoyable, its fine. If it’s short and BAD then I would agree.

OverSpeedClutch

I agree, but from the park’s perspective the Go Karts “make money” whereas The Demon does not… so I don’t think the Go Karts are going anywhere any time soon. I remember when that area was Bugs Bunny or Looney Tunes National Park. There was room for a bunch of kiddy rides, a store, and the Looney Lodge right there. Huge piece of real estate that they could do so much with… but I guess Go Karts really make bank…

TomcatTiger503

But Demon is more iconic then a damn go kart track. Plus the Six Flags parks have been slowly removing their uncharge attractions.

DontFuckGOPMen

I don’t understand how the go karts can make money with fuel and so many employees. I don’t ever see that long of a line?

TomcatTiger503

Agreed. Plus Demon has had longer lines as of this year then that. So I don’t think Demon is going before the go karts.

gometria

If it wasn’t profitable they wouldn’t operate it

PitchBlac

When I worked there, it would get decent lines all the time. Gas is like, $4 a gallon at most? $14 per person for a ride I believe? I see how they can make their money on that.

coaster_diary

I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't really making money on them. They are never busy and they cost a pretty penny to operate which is why they are an upcharge to begin with. They had no problem taking out their other upcharge attraction, Daredevil Dive, for a marketable thrill ride. A new coaster brings more long term value to the park, as well as the short term boost and hype

TheHumbleTradesman

I would be so sad to see the demon go. This is a brilliant ride and a true classic. The simple layout, the rising light tunnel, the double corkscrew, it’s still pretty smooth for an arrow of its age. There is a lot in this park that needs work, so I can see the appeal of putting in a new low maintenance ride, but there must be another way.

TomcatTiger503

Well Buccaneer Battle is slowly being taken down so that’s one less water ride the park has to maintain.

thedeathmachine

THANK YOU. DOWN WITH THE GO KARTS.

TomcatTiger503

The go karts actually used to be near Sky Trek Tower but they had to be moved in 2012 to make room for an expansion for Hurricane Harbor.

TomcatTiger503

Idk why I got downvoted for the comment about the Go Karts reason for being moved, as while I don’t like the decision, that’s why it happened.

Fun-River-3521

I agree and not every park needs Go carts

Ski4ever5

I’ve heard rumors that Cedar Fair is having ALL of the six flags properties surveyed to unify records across the board. There’s been similar activity at GAdv too, so that could be what this is.

TomcatTiger503

Please let It be that and not what I am fearing 3:

rollerrick420

Demon is safe. Stay tuned.......

coaster_diary

Thanks Dippin Dots man

rollerrick420

Come back here in the Fall.

ElderberryExtract948

How's do you know?! 🥹❤️

Midwest_madland

Trust me bro

TomcatTiger503

If anyone is good with identifying survey markers, let me what for pink symbolizes. This is only outside the coaster but I hope this does not mean it’s retiring yet. The coaster is 48 years old and even if it showing some age, it still has alot of fans both from the parks Marriott era and Arrow coaster lovers in general. I know most people assume the park does not care about this coaster but that is not exactly true, the ride has seen some visual upgrades these past few years to make it nicer like the station getting a fiery repaint, and some sound and smoke effects. Plus it’s not the most unreliable coaster in the world (even though it does sometimes get stuck on the lift from sensors going wonky). The rocks may have been torn out last year but then again California lost theirs earlier. Buccaneer Battle and the Go Karts can be cleared out for all I care…but I hope this can make it to 50. If this does end up being the final year for this classic, it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow and I dread the day it’s announced it will be done. I know not everything can last forever but Matterhorn Bobsleds is older and still chugging along, sure it’s in a different park run by a different parent company, but its still possible to keep things going like how Whizzer got it’s system upgrade recently done to increase it’s service life.

DokiKimori

Pink is exactly what you described. It's a survey marker. Used for measurements.

TomcatTiger503

And this is only outside the ride, so maybe I am worrying a bit too much. The stress of it being rumored to be removed last year after not operating for months until Fright Fest had me biting nails. But thankfully it was just to tear down the rock structure which finally had deteriorated beyond repair. Those did last longer then the rocks on the CGA Demon.

ashcan_not_trashcan

Your picture isn't focused on it so it's blurry but it looks to be labeled "BOR". Which to me is 'back of rail'. There's what appears to be a shitty wooden rail/barrier in front of the stake. And yes, pink is typically used by surveyors as the other person wrote below. My surveyor typically stakes out "BoW" with an offset distance when we are laying out staking for replacement sidewalk. Contractor using the stake and offset to measure to where he has to install new concrete after removing existing. Someone mentioned doing a location survey to update mapping. You don't stake stuff like this for that purpose. Which is why I think this is too maybe replace that barrier or something similar. For reference I'm a municipal civil engineer.

TomcatTiger503

It’s not my photo actually. It’s JiggidyNDG’s (Youtuber)

Chlorinated_beverage

I'm gonna miss Demon because it's such an iconic coaster, but if they remove it they better take Buccaneer Battle with it and put in a crazy high-capacity L-shaped coaster in their spot. Maybe a giant dive coaster? Or a bigger racing launch like West Coast Racers? Goofy 345? The possibilities are endless. https://preview.redd.it/vyjy0e67n86d1.png?width=719&format=png&auto=webp&s=ff59c70dd21e91c9c8d3d8612c6eb0f84dc4fb86 Here's a comparison between the Raging Bull lot size and the lot size of Demon + Buccaneer battle. Almost identical when accounting for the path space that the lot could pass over. This is Great America's chance to eat up the crowds which it absolutely needs at this point. But maybe they'll just put another super loop in who knows.

TomcatTiger503

It’s not confirmed to be going yet. I just wanted to know if this marker is a warning.

solonyne

Not to mention the demon's food stand and smoking area can go as well to square off that top right corner. Most likely to the water they have right there.

TomcatTiger503

Get rid of the funnel cake stand, keep the coaster named after it

ElderberryExtract948

I've ridden it once, I'd be so f****** sad if they tore it down.

LightningBoat

Maybe they'll get S&S or Vekoma to retrack it and give it new trains!

TomcatTiger503

That would a awesome idea.

LightningBoat

Viper too it seems like one of the most intense coasters in the US

Bllyjck_bigfan

It signifies future construction most of the time. Combine that with paint marks on the ground and within six months you will probably be seeing new steel at the back of the park. That has been my experience, and I was around for Tatsu, X-X2, Goliath , and Scream.

Bllyjck_bigfan

Add Dejavu to that list

ComicSans_XD

I think this for planting greenery and shrubbery and trees this might not have to do with the coaster itself but rather the terrain outside of it

DokiKimori

Who knows if it's going to close or not. You can only keep a rust bucket running for so long. Like many other Arrow Coasters I truly believe it's days are numbered. Based on this location though, I wouldn't be worried. Now if you spot markers in the queue or something, then I would worry.

TomcatTiger503

True, Phantoms Revenge (which used to be full Arrow) had rusted portions on it near the bottom of the lift when it’s paint job was faded beyond belief, but after the purple makeover they were able to get rid of the rust patches.

TomcatTiger503

But I just found out there are red and yellow ones in the area between Ricochet and Demon. I was told these are red and yellow and from what I researched. Red – Electric Power Lines. Yellow – **Gas, Oil and other Gaseous Materials**.

dwilli8

Best case scenario the are just trying to shorten the queue to fit in the next ride see if the are any makers up the hill towards southwest in the extra queue space. It's problem if it is closer then that.

mcraig0490

Seems like it's for a boring hole survey. So testing of the soil and bedrock.

TomcatTiger503

Phew.

brain0924

It’s likely just for new rockwork.

TomcatTiger503

But those would have to be near the loops.

criscokkat

If they are redoing the rockwork, putting new rockwork in between the queue and the main 'street' in front with a new demon logo would make sense. If they are doing the work, might as well 'advertise' it. The excitement over the revamped BGW Lochness brought a minor, but noticeable buzz and bump to BGW. The same treatment with some new track where it's needed along with bringing back better rockwork would be a cheap way to bring a buzz in a year w/o new coasters.

iwassayingboourns12

After my ride on it in May, I’d say good riddance. It’s not the worst Arrow looper around *cough* Carolina Cyclone *cough* Corkscrew *cough* but I’m all for brining something more modern in.

TomcatTiger503

Whizzer and Demon have been in the park since opening and I feel you can’t have one without the other. California lost their Whizzer way to early and only has Demon left.

TomcatTiger503

If it makes you feel any better the Demon at California is most likely going considering the park it’s in... I know not alot of people love it, but if you ride it the right way or your head goes over the restraints depending on your height, then it’s not that bad. Plus Shockwave was much more brutal and unbearable in my opinion.

DionBlaster123

speaking of California. What exactly is the timeline for California's Great America? I was planning on a trip to California this spring, but finances were not going to work out unfortunately. 2025 doesn't seem like a good year either for me. 2026 would be the earliest

poser4life

Commercial real estate is tanking and the city wont rezone the land. I think it will be around longer than most expect

DionBlaster123

love your flair and love your optimism! i know its time is limited but i really hope i can make it out there eventually

TomcatTiger503

Also ironically Carolina Cyclone might last a little longer since it got Vortex’s old trains (Kings Island) to keep it chugging)

ap0c11

They recently removed buccaneer battle which isnt far from here. Are other markers along the way to this area?

TomcatTiger503

Someone on YouTube told me they saw red and yellow markers near the area between Ricochet and Demon. That concerns me but those could possibly mean the rock structure is coming back, or Red – Electric Power Lines. Yellow – **Gas, Oil and other Gaseous Materials**.

Bllyjck_bigfan

That marker along with the paint on the midway is a definate sign that a new ride is being marked out. That pink flag is more than likely a location marker for a footing. The same as the paint on the ground. This should be a cause for celebration. I was around for the birth of X-X2, Tatsu, Scream and that green Vekoma piece of crap they sent to Georgia that vallied more than a preppy girl from the 80’s. You can bet your ass some ones getting a new ride.

TomcatTiger503

I just hope Demon is not sacrificed for this new ride.

mikeydeemo

I was so excited to ride this when I visited and despite my love for janky arrows, did not like this. The transition into the first corkscrew was enough for me to hate it lol.

sooperflooede

I’ve been worried ever since noticing how close in size the plot is to Jersey Devil.

TomcatTiger503

But again there are no extra markings within the area of the coaster. Only outside it.

thereallamewad

Possible it's just a discovery survey. Perhaps they're figuring out what is actually possible on this plot of land.

TomcatTiger503

Actually a couple of years ago inside Demon’s queue there was also a pink survey marker there for a while near some trees in a area not to far away from the pre lift tunnel. But it ended up vanishing and I looked up what pink represents and it’s a “temporary” marking.

Calebminear

Tear it down

TomcatTiger503

The CGA one will possibly soon since CGA is going down as a whole (if it does)

criscokkat

I wouldn't be surprised if with new management and cratering commercial real estate if somewhere in the next few years there's a new long term deal (or even purchase) securing CGA's future.

emisanko86

Looks like they are planning on putting a dollar general in place of the coaster.

redveinlover

That's where the new Amazon Prime warehouse is going

TheMachoMustache

That’s like the worst ride in the park… also, are they closing American Eagle for good? That would actually make me sad.

TomcatTiger503

Demon is not a bad ride at all. Iron Wolf I say was the worst.

TheMachoMustache

Im claustrophobic and the shoulder restrains on the Demon aren’t good for guys with big shoulders. Totally hated Iron Wolf haha. I was being a jackass once and they locked the seats while my feet were off the ground. Not fun. Not one bit. Glad they replaced it with Goliath.

DionBlaster123

I rode Iron Wolf once. It wasn't a terrible coaster but I also remember nothing from it Goliath was a MASSIVE improvement i feel similarly with Shockwave and Superman. I know some people are nostalgic about Shockwave. It was the first "grown-up" coaster I ever rode...but i don't miss it at all. Aside from the obnoxiously long lines it has for a relatively short ride, I always look forward to going on Superman when i visit the park

TomcatTiger503

Shockwave was a legendary coaster at the time of it’s debut because of the records it broke. But design and structural flaws is what lead to it’s downfall. It only lasted 14 years while Demon is 48. Think about that as Shockwave was the bigger and larger Arrow.

TheMachoMustache

Shockwave at Six Flags over Texas was my first, followed by the Texas Giant.

DionBlaster123

i saw a news blast where the president of SFGAm spoke about how the American Eagle would never go away again it's all just cheap corporate talk, but with something like American Eagle...they would absolutely start planning its closure a long time in advance to give it a proper send-off

criscokkat

So that's corporate speak for 'it's gone. come say your goodbyes', right?

DionBlaster123

possibly but they will definitely give people more than a year's notice not out of the goodness of their hearts (these people only care about one thing, making as much money as possible) but because it would be a great way to promote the park and drive up attendance for a summer. People have been riding American Eagle for generations reminds me of what Hersheypark did with Wildcat. Everyone and their mother prior to the end of 2021 said that the ride sucked and they hated it with a passion. Then HP announces it will be the last year and all these same goofs came out of the woodwork talking about all the fond memories they had of it and how sad it will be when it goes away blah blah blah lol

TomcatTiger503

The late Hank Salemi? (R.I.P. to that great man) Or John Krajnak our current present

imaguitarhero24

Get rid of this garbage.

TomcatTiger503

Agreed. These markers are distracting.

TomcatTiger503

Why did I get downvoted?
