I think if you spend just a few minutes thinking about this you will realize the answer. Reminds me of how my mother repeatedly told me growing up that the monorail at Carowinds fell off the track into the lake once. It wasn't until I was an adult that I suddenly remembered that story and realized it was a lie.

Torian17

lol I know it was PROB a big fish story but he was pretty emphatic about it. I’m guessing his parents told him that so they didn’t have to take him one day lol. The Carrowins story is pretty good too!

CheesecakeMilitia

your dad sounds as reliable as a dippin dots guy doing some googling I did find that it appears to be [a common amusment park rumor](https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/did-an-infestation-of-deadly-snakes-really-cause-glen-echo-park-to-close-for-a-while/2014/10/11/b0708494-501c-11e4-babe-e91da079cb8a_story.html) dating back to the 1930's

Torian17

Wow love that you found this! It’s behind a paywall so gonna see if I can find a free version. Thanks for the research!

satanssweatycheeks

It’s a 4 mins movie filmed on the beast.

Torian17

Hahah love it

DionBlaster123

One thing you won't love is learning that movie is 17 years old now

SignGuy77

“I’m tired of these monkey-fighting snakes on this nine to five train!”

halo364

I can't confirm this rattlesnake story, but I can say that when I visited Hersheypark as a kid, SooperDooperLooper straight up exploded mid-cycle, killing everyone on it including myself. So take that for what you will

King_Kuuga

It's true, I was SuperDooperLooper

Torian17

Hahahah love it

rangoon03

Did the train fly off the track and explode in fireballs RCT style??

MrBrightside711

This has got to be one of the funniest things I've heard on here 😂

rhymes_with_candy

It actually happened on the original Wildcat coaster in the 40's. That's why they closed the ride and tore it down. The captured snakes were also the first animals exhibited in Zoo America. Milton Hershey figured they already had the snakes so why not build a zoo. Little known fact but the smell of funnel cake actually repels rattlesnakes. Hersheypark was the first amusement park to start selling it for that reason. And that's why all the other parks, carnivals, state fairs, etc started selling it too. There hasn't been a single rattlesnake related death at a park since the wildcat incident all thanks to funnel cake and it's snake repelling properties. There was a long debate over if it was the funnel cake itself or the confectioner's sugar that repels snakes. After a snake handler working on Raiders of the Lost Ark was ingested by a python despite having just covered himself in powdered sugar they realized it was the deep fried batter that snakes hate.

steeleye5

You had me until the eaten by pythons part

Chicago_Blackhawks

nah come on man not > the smell of funnel cake actually repels rattlesnakes ?? hahahah

rhymes_with_candy

It was one very large python and the snake handler was a very petite man. Not to send heightist but snake handling is tall-boi work. If the man had just been four inches taller they could've pulled him out by his Chuck Taylors.

Mooco2

Highly unlikely considering they often will partially or fully tear down and rebuild those trains every winter as part of a maintenance schedule. Even then, someone woulda noticed before boarding riders.

JamminJay1968

Snake has more credits than me frfr

Torian17

Hahahah all time record for Comet laps

Delicious-Secret-760

At every recreational lake I've ever been to someone will tell you a story about a skier/swimmer that fell into a "mating ball" of water moccasins and got bit to death. Even when you point out to them that snake bite deaths in the USA are extremely rare and something like that would have made national news and besides that water moccasins don't engage in that kind of behavior they think you're crazy for not believing their wild myth.

FaelingJester

Bold of them to add a coaster named Timber Rattler and a midway game named Rattlers Revenge then I would think.

ApplicationOdd6600

It’s true…..the same rattlesnakes were in the ball pit at Knoebles….i would know. I was the comet.

Japo-Scandinavian

Yeah, I always heard the "rattlesnake in McDonald's ball pit" in the 90s

Delicious-Secret-760

The same rumor went around about the ball pit in a local Dairy Queen here in the '90's. It almost put them out of business.

Grape-Julius

It’s true. I rode it the day after I went down the Cannonball Loop waterslide at Traction Park in NJ. I hold the distinction of being the last known survivor of both these attractions.

oOoleveloOo

Stupid 🙄

Torian17

I mean, posting about roller coasters on the internet is stupid too but we’re all partaking. Thought it would be fun to bring it up in a lighthearted forum.
