I wonder... So far the remake did include a couple of the less goofy gags from the manga. We'll see.
Also, movie Saito is still the original hard unforgiving fanatic ("You deceive yourself, Battosai. Live by the sword and die by the sword, that's the only way for us").
As others have said, the live action movies had plenty of humor in them.
Personally, I've always felt the managa/ anime didn't take themselves seriously *enough* considering the subject material. For me, the live-action movies have by far my favorite tone of the series.
Whether you agree with that or not, one of the best things with RK as a whole is that we have all these different versions that are strong in their own ways. There's no point in re-doing the exact same thing over and over again with each adaptation. Some people will prefer how the anime does it and others will prefer how the movies do it and others will always feel that the manga did it best. There is not one objective best tone for the series.
Just a silly funny meme which appeared in my fb timeline. Maybe the watermark is from the original authors, couldn't ascertain.
LOL that would've been golden hahahah
Anyone can explain?
Saito imagined this in the manga
And OG anime
Saito was just a regular dude in the live action movies, lol.
A regular dude with a sword charge that could tear walls down
What animal would Tomoe/Kasumi Arimura be?
Tokudaia?
How about a rabbit?
It won't happen in the remake either. Also, Saito in the movie's only personality trait is smoking.

Why is that tanuki kinda fat
Why are you fat-shaming the poor tanuki?
I’m not. He just looks fat to me
It's not fat, it's fluffy! Not quite at "Dayumn!"
I wish that had been a thing lol
Lol love it bahaha.

Live action takes itself too seriously. No way the jokes would make into the final cut
>Live action takes itself too seriously (Insert every Sano scene in just the first film alone)
Second film: When Sano tried to emulate Kenshin's cool "flying over the river" movement, but ended up falling into the river xD
