Seems like an insurmountable lead on album #1. An incredible album.
I've been so deep into Yes at times that they were right up there wi4h Rush on my totem pole. They've faded somewhat as I now see classic Genesis with bigger prog discography.
I see direct Yes & Genesis influences on Rush & what Rush became over the 70s.
I'm fortunate, I think, on not discovering the *Classic* Genesis albums (I'd say the era with both Steve Hackett & Phil Collins in the line up, encompassing the 6 studio albums starting/ending '1971 w/ Nursery Cryme & 1976 w/ Wind & Wuthering) until after 2017 sometime.
It was like finding an unopened Christmas present from childhood that had the best stuff inside.
The only Genesis track I ever heard on the growing up with Florida rock stations from the classic era was the rare The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway spin.
Then oddly, the other Peter Gabriel led Genesis track that I heard rarely over the years was Watcher of The Skies **at Rush concerts on their pre-show playlist**. Honestly, hearing it again before R40 in 2015 reminded me I really need to check out old Genesis sometime. And I did eventually a few years later, & it BLEW MY GD MIND. So good. How'd I miss it?
I can’t wait for Days of Future Passed Tour; they’re specifically honing in on SiT tracks and if by some divine miracle we get Alexander the Great or Caught Somewhere in Time in the set list, I will pay exorbitant amounts of money to travel wherever to catch a gig.
Incredible musicianship across the board. I grew up with an intense passion for Rush as we probably all did haha. They really opened me up for a higher quality of music. Ween is one of the most pure bands out there.
Today's list:
Black Sabbath - Vol 4
Pink Floyd - Meddle
The Beatles - White Album
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffitti
Iron Maiden - Killers
Yes - Close to the Edge
Tool - Undertow
Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead
The Cars - The Cars
Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV: Volume I: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness (Yes that's an actual album name) by Coheed & Cambria
The Willing Well series at the end of the album is peak prog. I highly recommend checking it out. There are so many similarities between Rush and Coheed. Coheed has a song called "2113". It has nothing to do with 2112 but what are the odds of that?
Not in any particular order, but I enjoy the following:
-Sailing The Seas of Cheese [Primus]
-Pictures at an Exhibition [ELP]
-Animals [Pink Floyd]
-The Bluecoats 2016 show “Downside Up”
Pink Floyd - Animals Frankly any 70s Pink Floyd album
I kid you not, I read this comment while listening to Animals. You get my upvote
"Aha, charade you are...." Did any of you ever catch Cartman saying this on South Park? Trey Parker throwing a bone to Floyd fans.
Agreed. Animals is my personal favorite Floyd album, just scratches a certain itch for me in a way that none of their others do
Yes. and yes.
Yes - Close to the Edge

Selling England by the Pound - Genesis
Hope this makes it at some point
This. I am a Yes fan, but Genesis will always be my #1 English prog band.
