Lmao idk what kind of window salesmen make 200k. In Canada they would pay u 50 base and maybe 90ote

johnnyhabitat

I work 100% commission jobs

johnnyhabitat

The amount I make selling hearing aids sounds absurd to others that sell them because it’s so much higher than average. But I’m above average!

Status_Situation5451

I’m having trouble hearing you?

milk_man577

I would do the hearing aids over the windows

Dry_Pie2465

Lol.

YogurtclosetNo9608

If you’re working commission only you have the potential to make 200k. Extremely dependent on the quality of the leads you’re getting. Not to mention you’ll be working all sorts of ridiculous hours (weekends too) and driving for hours every day I did it for nearly two years and i think it’s terrible

IndividualAbrocoma35

I was just applying for a sales job with Champion. I bet we saw the same ad. I quit the application at the end. After attaching my resume it asked me to type in the info in again. I hate that type of stuff. So I deleted it and moved on.

The_PepeSilvia

The hours definitely suck but it’s a simple job that can earn decent money and if OP wants to have his wife be a stay at home mom it’s possible to make that happen

drosten23

I’m pretty sure I remember reading last year about deregulation that will allow over the counter hearing aid sales. That alone should be reason enough to leave and probably when you’re seeing a drop in income.

CharmingEngine4264

I made over 200k last year in a good year for me. Lots of guys do at my company but I work for one of the more expensive windows out there, though I don't get a high % compared to other window companies I believe. It's good work but a couple of costs come into play. You'll be traveling a lot and likely paying for gas, losing 30k of depreciation miles per year, oil changes etc. plus if you're not disciplined you'll be eating and having coffee on the road a lot which adds up. I estimate I pay 20k in post tax dollars between everything I just listed which means like 35k pre tax income coming off my income. Still good though

johnnyhabitat

I have an offer to work at Champion starting the beginning of next month. What is your average sized deal? I do realize it’s a lot of driving and gas comes out of my own pocket which is fine. I’ve heard they’re decent. Not as expensive as Anderson, but a decent place to be.

CharmingEngine4264

I say go for champion for 6mo to a year and either stay or go into solar if you wanna be out of the industry youwere in

yulemguysmmoja

Not solar

CharmingEngine4264

Why not?

yulemguysmmoja

I was wrong

ihate828tourists

I used to work in the window industry for another company on the high end of the spectrum..it all comes down to your ability to one call close. Window World sells the same window (vinyl is vinyl is vinyl) starting at $400/window. Champion can be as high as 2k-2.3k/window

CharmingEngine4264

Avg deal size: 22k(top 20% performer. Commission 8.1% with bonuses it can go up .25% every level totaling in an extra 2.5% if you have a monster month. I closed 2.4K after cancellations last year. When financing is turned down and goes to secondary financing sources I only get 4% commission and if I miss something or don't charge enough or forget a permit check that all comes out of my check. I w2'd 211k last year but with lead times it was more like 230k. Castle makes cheap vinyl windows like a hundred other companies, but! They've been around for a long time and are reputable. Many plastic window companies won't honor warranties or offer a cheap product because they've cut spending on service and QC etc. castle is akin to Harvey. It's the low budget option but the solid version of that. Sometimes I wish I sell that because they come in so much cheaper than us that it's worth it in so many situations that you'll illustrate, I'm guessing you're at 1200 per window installed while we're at around 2400. That being said , unless you're getting 13% and are generally stocked with 2 leads per day you work, I don't get how you'll make Money at your price

CharmingEngine4264

But ppl do and I'd love to hear about it

The_PepeSilvia

I worked for a window company for over 7 years. The moneys good but the hours can suck. A company like champion will likely be providing you at least 80% of your leads so you shouldn’t have to worry about generating your own. The downside was having a 7:00 appointment almost every night meaning you’re home at 9 or 10 some nights. The moneys there though, it’s very doable to sell a million your first year which should earn you at least 80k before taxes. If you think the industry you’re in is on the decline a change may be a good idea. The remodeling industry is only getting stronger and even if champion doesn’t work out you can get good experience selling in that industry

LearningJelly

Why not make your own hearing aid company?

Sufficient-Law-6622

Dude said he was 100% commission in a diff comment as well. This sounds like the right move.

gorigirl

Why not get into medical device with your background?

johnnyhabitat

A lot of those jobs require a degree which I don’t have unfortunately. What would you recommend?

gorigirl

I see. I’m actually in the same boat, I had a miserable time trying to get into medical device and ended up in tech. I just figured maybe since you are already in that arena it may be easier to get in. I’ve learned the hard way tech and medical device are a bit of a Country Club and your degree matters even if everyone says sales has a low barrier to entry. I’ve heard decent things about solar if you find a good company. I’m currently a loan originator and the income potential is insane when rates are low and decent when they are high.

ZenLeTomson

Since you've worked 100% commission, I'd look into starting your own business or going solo and looking for high ticket closer opportunities. (Think large influencers selling $5k-$20k mentorship.) Hell, maybe both... a high ticket closing business clients can outsource.

Forzeev

I have now idea about window industry, but is that also your wifes goal as well?

johnnyhabitat

Yes, why?

elisabeth_athome

Probably because your phrasing was odd; “make my wife” sounded a bit forceful. Is the window sales job a door-to-door gig?

Ok-Chicken7487

Jeez… the guy (assuming his gender) is looking at it as a gift or accomplishment that he can do for his wife.

elisabeth_athome

I understood what he was saying and wasn’t judging him for it - I was just explaining why someone else might have interpreted it as a goal he hadn’t discussed with his wife.

milk_man577

Maybe get into SAAS?

[deleted]

One is necessary in any economy the other is a nice to have

Dry_Pie2465

Are you selling windows to commercial clients? A lot of windows in office buildings and condo buildings.

totalmoron42069

I had some friends get into that out of college and I was pretty tempted at one point to join. Those are pretty soul sucking jobs. You're driving around all day doing the appointments and selling HARD CORE. They train you to not take no for an answer. They even had guys who's job it was to continually harass people that did say no.

Hacimnosp

Window sales is alright most companies follow a setter closer model so just make sure your closers are good that way you get paid. I would recommend going a higher ticket and getting into solar. I did a lot of research on multiple industries last year. My take always for solar v windows is that solar is more beneficial to the home owners value wise(commission is a lower % of the deal or more commission). Other benefits solar financing is easier, ROI is faster and the increase in equity is proportional higher for the home owner. For the sales guy higher commission per deal and most people sell similar quantity of deals. Also there are more equity deals available for solar as it’s easier for a company to go public. Pay varies on market and company. My company avg. 42k first 4 months for rookies with no sales experience. 2nd year vet’s average just over 250k but usually work 5-8 months out of the year (40-50 hours weeks).

The_PepeSilvia

are you currently selling solar?

Hacimnosp

I am currently in solar. After doing the analysis I decided it was the best option for me.

IndividualAbrocoma35

I've had 2 bad interview experiences with solar. Both times they no showed! Yesterday Champion asked me to interview, but I really want to do solar sales. Unfortunately I can't get any interviews for solar sales. I assumed it would be easy. Any suggestions?

Hacimnosp

The solar is an easier sale but the trick is to create trust with the customer. This prevents the to good to be true feeling and also stop them from shopping around. When looking for a company be carful as there are a lot of companies that a really just dealers. Often times the become a pyramid scheme where upper management make tons and lower guys have a hard time getting 150-200k mark. They also focus on having a large work force not a quality or trained team. My company has a few opening(we are national, the spots are fairly competitive. I can set up a interview but not guarantee for a job. If that doesn’t work out for you I have contacts in a few other companies and can put you in contact.

IndividualAbrocoma35

I'm definitely interested. Can I dm you?

Hacimnosp

You can DM me
