>Just as a side piece of information, you will never see the northern lights in San Francisco. There is simply too much light, and they are way too dull for the human eye to catch.
/u/grumpygamersf are you not entertained?
>Also, we're WAY too far south. Even with it dipping extraordinarily south this weekend, it's only hitting Washington state.
/u/roger_cockfoster who knew!
I wasn’t in the darkest spot even for within SF and I could briefly see it VERY faintly with just my eyes (confirmed with camera that hadn’t picked anything up before that but did after I saw it), so I’d expect people in darker areas would have been able to see it more than I did, and I’m pretty sure I saw others say they could see it a little. You probably would have needed to know what you were looking for though.
That one is kinda on, kinda off. I’ve seen them with my human eyes in suburban Minneapolis a few times. They’re obviously brighter the farther north you go, but that person has obviously never seen them, but probably read about them and didn’t understand the context.
That said, I’m kinda shocked they were visible this far south. I’d never have guessed you would ever be able to see them here.
The OG aurora sighting in SF.
This one seems so much more apropos https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/qjh1pz/possible_aurora_borealis_sighting_on_1030_around/

Never say never! /u/grumpygamersf /u/roger_cockfoster
From everything I have read, you couldn't see them with the naked eye in SF. You needed a camera.

Yeah that would've just been too confusing for everyone if that was reposted tonight.
