Congratulations!! I have 85 degrees of scoliosis and will be getting surgery for this. Glad you're doing well! Can I ask are pain medications working well?
Nice! May you get the results you need and quick healing!
I remember when I had my halo traction experience, my body would “reject” sneezing because of the pins in the forehead (similar positioning as yours)
Have you already experienced that as well?
No, it didn’t reject in other ways, just the sneeze, because I guess I use all of my ‘face’ muscles when sneezing, including the muscles in my forehead.
I understand not everyone sneezes that way either, lol
This is strange, I’ve never had halo traction, but for about a month or two after my fusion, I was completely unable to sneeze. I have allergies and live with cats so sneezing is normal. But for weeks after my fusion, I would get the need to sneeze, but my body wasn’t able to do it.
Did they decide to do the halo because of the curve or because you also have a spinal rotation? Did your provider say that there is a cutoff age for this type of traction?
Loopy. Not as painful as expected but sore. Maybe 2/10 on the pain scale. I was on pain meds via IV and honestly the first few added pounds was just a little sore. I will say expect soreness and slight aches in the neck.
I have a severe fear of hypodermic needles and as a result have put off having surgery for my scoliosis, blood work, etc. May I ask, what is that small tube/device that appears it's entering your neck area?
Awwww I'm sorry I actually really don't like IV work either. The device is unrelated and you probably won't need it. I have lung problems and it helps get air access
Idk if I'm completely out of line but may I ask if you have CdLS? My cousin has it and I mean she's 22 and weighs 50 lbs, she can't talk and needs around-the-clock care. Anyway she doesn't have scoliosis tho I'm pretty sure it's relatively common, and more severe, in ppl with CdLS
Before I saw your photos I would have said it was impossible to look like a boss wearing a halo but you are doing it. Good luck with everything!
What do you mean by “at 17 pounds”? Glad you’re feeling good!
The halo applies negative tension by pulling. I add 2 pounds daily starting at 5 pounds. I'm at 17 pounds of tension
Wow! I never knew about this method of treatment. How many pounds do you max out at? When does the treatment finish?
Half my weight aka 54 pounds
Oh my god. I hope it’s all smoother sailing for you!

Yes.
How long does your doctor expect you to be on Halo traction treatment for?
30-45 days. Goal is 45 pounds for optimal strength and we need to lower curve to 40 degrees.

Actually no. That is really odd. Did it "reject" in other ways?

Yes exactly! That was my experience the whole time while in halo traction!

Do you have to sleep in a special bed or position?
No. Just straight they encourage turning the head a little bit no
does it hurt
what does it do may i ask
Is it screwed into your head?
Yes
You’re doing great
I've never heard of this treatment. Good luck with it! :)
How did you feel after waking up with the Halo on the first day?
Loopy. Not as painful as expected but sore. Maybe 2/10 on the pain scale. I was on pain meds via IV and honestly the first few added pounds was just a little sore. I will say expect soreness and slight aches in the neck.
Yes, I remember it was a terrible feeling
Is it equally as effective than surgery? I thought halo traction was only for young children!
afaik it's done pre-surgery for some severe cases, it's not an alternative.
Good luck with your recovery!!
is your scoliosis part of a syndrome?
This is so informative. Thank you for sharing!
Didnt even know Halo Traction was an option . So No surgery ? Hoping everything turns out Great 👍🙏
Looking great! Best of luck and well wishes for a speedy recovery :)
Are the screws itchy? I've met someone who said this was the worst thing about the whole treatment.

Wow. You got this. 💜
Do you have to sleep in it? If so how’s that going?
I didnt know they still did this. Do the results last?

I had to do this too! It sucks, but it’s worth it.
Whoa, is this instead of surgery? Or in addition to?
How did you get the halo treatment? I thought it was only for little kids. Can adults do it?
How is your curve/traction progressing?
