A lot of used 150cc scooters are available on FB marketplace in my area. Even at your size they will get you around at 55 mph or better. Look for quality brands. Japanese scooters from Honda and Yamaha. Taiwanese manufactured brands are Kymco, Sym, Lance, and Genuine. Avoid cheaper Chinese scooters. There are great deals to be found, it's the off season. In the Spring and Summer prices will increase.

If you get a gy6 based scooter, make sure it’s the one built in Taiwan, not china. They are noticeably more reliable according to my friends.

You'll need more than 50cc. I weigh \~225 and a 50cc isn't fast enough for me to keep up with traffic comfortably. I'd recommend buying as much displacement as you can afford.

I'm 6'4" and weigh 235 last I checked and I do 40mph. 50s are only technically supposed to go 30mph on flat ground, so anything over that is bonus. They aren't meant to be fast.

nofretting

Agreed on the 30mph bit - but there's also how long it takes you to get to 30.

D_for_Drive

My first thought would be a Kymco People 50 or 125.

You should check out the local market for used scooters, see what is available.its possible to get a good deal although for that money you will probably have to do a revision or repair it a bit.but its certainly possible.

You’re going to look like a circus bear on a children’s bicycle on a 150. You should look at Honda Elite size scooters. Maybe a Majesty or a bigger wheel model 250cc +

You're going to need at least 250cc and up....I'm 6'2 230, and my 250cc takes me around 70mph on flat, but you're way taller. I can only imagine how uncomfortable you'll be. Tying looking for a used burgman or a silverwing, even a t-max, those scooters have enough power and should hopefully feel comfortable for you but you will need a m license

I agree, I'm 5'8 and 320 and I drive a 50cc Sunny and although I can keep ok pace with lower speed traffic, I don't particularly feel good on main roads, I can get to about 35 on a flat road. I don't recommend anything below 125cc and would recommend a classic body style, see the BMS Heritage or similar, somewhat Vespa like.

Used market 250cc would be ideal for you. Easily replace a car with one. As long as you live somewhere that makes 2 wheel transportation viable. 250cc can go 70+ and has enough ooompf to carry you up big hills without loss of speed.

Youre going to need to get the motorcycle license. As for budget I recommend Honda Helix, its 250cc engine will carry you at a normal speed. You may need aftermarket shocks but not sure before trying the bike. Alternatively you can see if you can find a used Yamaha Majesty or used Honda Silverwing, which are both very reliable and are large comfortable bikes.
