I covered it in flux and tried to get the solder to follow it after heating the joint, and it wouldn't flow in by any means. So instead I opted for a connection by contact. The joint is just two pieces of stranded 2 gauge wire spliced together to complete the circuit, and then I wrapped smaller wire to increase the number of paths the current can follow which would decrease the extremely high current through all of the much smaller splice joints. It actually has done me way better than I was expecting, upon first fire up I was expecting it to just burst into melted copper, but so far, no signs of any damage whatsoever!
Yeah the trick is that you need liquid flux. That'll soak into the strands of the wire, just putting paste Flux on the surface doesn't do it. The paste won't soak in like liquid solder will. And of course there's not enough flux in rosin core solder core to do anything bigger than PCB work.
And it'll take a ton of heat to get that joint up to temp. You'll need 100 w soldering iron or a torch.
And trim off the last attempt and start with some fresh copper.
