I find the world in Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen really lacking.
It is not a super big world. This is a good think, since it is very annoying to traverse. This is chiefly due to the groups of enemies that you encounter on your travels, which quickly become a nuisance rather than any kind of hindrance.
Despite that the world also feels very empty. There exist only 1.5 cities in the game, with a few small outposts. There are a few travelling Pawns close to those locations, but otherwise the groups of enemies that annoy you on your travels are the only NPCs you encounter.
Also design-wise and graphically the world is not super interesting. It is mostly forests, firlds or mountains. On top off that a lot off locations are just repeated across the map. All the abandoned camps and cages you can came across look the same. The limited enemy variety does not help in this regard.
But the worst thing about the world in Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is that it gives you almost zero reasons to explore it. There is nothing interesting to stumble across while exploring.
Interesting Locations or Dungeons are almost all locked behind main quests or important side quest. You won't stumble across any fun quests, because almost all quest are given in the 1.5 cities (and the game doesn't really have any fun quests in general). You won't really find any cool equipment, since those are located in the interesting Locations and Dungeons, which, as mentioned earlier, are locked behind the main quest or important side quests. You often don't even get the pleasure of finding your own way to a quest location, because for not insignificant amounts there is only one possible way to your target.
This all means that the only rewards for exploration are money, upgrade materials or healing items. The coolest thing that can happen while you explore is that you stumble upon one of the three different minibosses.
I want to try the new Fallout 4 update but I have stuff to do outside after work 😔
I got the game on PS5, I'll wait a bit before downloading the update on PC. Seems like the only thing that got broken was the script extender (non-F4SE mods are apparently still working fine) so I'm hoping the mod thing will be resolved sooner rather than later. Doesn't seem to be as bad as the last big Skyrim update IMO. I downloaded that one by accident and it was kind of tedious downgrading and then updating the modlist in two separate computers once it was safe to do 🧐
Yeah when an update happens it's usually FOSE and mods that use it. Despite the hysteria whenever it happens that Bethesda are trying to kill mods, it's just that FOSE does a lot of breaks easily.

Something that kinda irks me is when people complain about Bethesda using songs from 60-70s for fallout. Bruh Janet Jackson and Nirvana are mentioned in fallout 2. Modern music exists in fallout. Shit AC/DC is mentioned in fallout 2 aswell.
Beth are just cheap bastards and don't want to pay expensive ass music licensing. And it doesn't make sense lore speaking..do you think people in fallout just stop making music after the 50s?
And tbh this may be reading to much into it, but I also feels like in a way it adds to the dystopia of the Eternal 50s to show that there was in fact cultural movement forwards in the decades following the actual 50s, as it kinda suggests the whole aesthetic of pre-war America could be the result of some majorly successful Reactionary project to turn the clock back socially (like so many reactionaries today so desperately want to do).
I dont think that's reading too much into at all. America, as depicted in the franchise, is supposed to be a culture that is extremely stagnant. All the government has done for the like 100+ years leading up to the bombs dropping is develop bigger bombs and more widespread propaganda campaigns.
I don't think that's reading too much into it at all when the opening ten minutes of Fo4 is showing you the "ideal" American nuclear family, then immediately evaporating them in nuclear fire. Or 76 having the destruction caused by the military being called in to gun down protesting miners still visible and if anything barely affected at all by literal armageddon.
There's lots of indicators that the "50's Americana" vibe was a deliberate effort to cover up the horrible shit happening in the wider world and USA in particular. Boston is full of military checkpoints that are indicated to have had soldiers in power armor attached to perform stop-and-search on suspicious citizens, and the famous NV Ranger armors are pre-war riot gear that are so prolific in the NCR *explicitly* because LA police departments were constantly having to crank them out to deal with violent protests.
It's part of why I hate that "environmental storytelling means a skeleton with a note next to him saying how he died" thing people like to say. Both Bethesda and Obsidian (and before them Black Isle) put tons of actual detail into small things in the world like that to tell you about this stuff, and yet people will complain they're stupid and meaningless fluff and bitch that the developers are idealizing the exact things they're used to show us were bad.

Vivian, one of the characters in the game, is implied to be (and in a few languages explicitly) a trans woman in the Japanese and most European scripts, and her sisters insult her by misgendering her. The English and German versions remove all mention of this and use more generic insults instead, but from what we're seeing of the remake's English script it's been changed to I'm guessing something closer to the Japanese? I don't 100% remember the context of this remark nor do we seem to have everything around it in the remake so not definitively confirmed but it does show that Vivian will be handled differently compared to the original localization

Fucking great show that I see almost no one talking about, and I'm worried that Disney will see that and not renew it for a third season.
It's set in a world that's basically just our normal modern world except everyone has a superpower that you get some time around your 18th birthday. Some people have telekinesis, some people can time travel, some people can channel the dead, some people can turn into a cat, and so on. The show mainly follows Jen, a 25 year old woman who never got her powers. The vibes of the show are great, they really nailed the aesthetic of being poor and young and living in London, and the characters are fantastic and really well written. I'd say in terms of vibes alone, the show it reminds me most of is Community.

Started Jedi Survivor. Really cool so far. Just beat >!the 9th Sister!<. Taking me a bit to get back into the combat flow but I'm very happy to already have dual sabers at my disposal. Very pretty too.
Game runs well (?) on performance mode but the transition to cutscenes is extremely jarring and kinda uncomfortable on the eyes as they are still clearly in 30fps and transitions are really not smooth. Like, the flow between where a character enters a cutscene and their actual position in the 'immediate moment following' of the cutscene is never accurate.
Also heard the fans on my Series X for the first time ever.
Yeah I heard it was really rough on PC but didn't realise it was kinda rough on console too. Definitely appreciate having performance mode for the actual gameplay but yeah.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the FO4 Next Gen patch had gotten sidelined internally in favour of other projects; and Bethesda released this because they figured the bad PR from a rather underwhelming next-gen update was better than the bad PR from cancelling it.
I mean. They posted two weeks ago listing exactly what would be in the update. And then pushed that plus a few bugfixes.

Why is the 10mm pistol such a beast in Fallout 4? Put a few points into gun nut, slap a few mods on it, and the 10mm will carry the Sole Survivor through the early & mid game of Fallout 4. It’s no surprise no one ends up using pipe weapons when this monster is literally the first gun you get.
I remember it being good in Fallouts 3 & NV, but I don’t think I used the 10mm as much in those games as I did in FO4

Caught up on The Bad Batch in time for the final episode next week
Good show. Second best Star Wars series till the end. Very much has kids show sensibilities, after all it's a story about a bunch of wacky clones with generic personalities - the big one that likes explosives, the pedantic nerd, etc. - protecting a plucky kid and they obviously pull a lot of punches when it comes to what they can depict but it still manages to go harder in both tone and sometimes content than any of the live action shows (excluding Andor). There's a bunch of very lighthearted episodes (which are fun) and kiddy humor but once they get to the big story moments they do an incredible job at tension and atmosphere.
Also (like I mentioned a bunch of times before) I think it just looks really good. The things that two decades of experience creating animation in one visual style can do.

I haven't played TTYD, what's the context here?
Vivian, one of the characters in the game, is implied to be (and in a few languages explicitly) a trans woman in the Japanese and most European scripts, and her sisters insult her by misgendering her. The English and German versions remove all mention of this and use more generic insults instead, but from what we're seeing of the remake's English script it's been changed to I'm guessing something closer to the Japanese? I don't 100% remember the context of this remark nor do we seem to have everything around it in the remake so not definitively confirmed but it does show that Vivian will be handled differently compared to the original localization

Go watch Extraordinary Fucking great show that I see almost no one talking about, and I'm worried that Disney will see that and not renew it for a third season. It's set in a world that's basically just our normal modern world except everyone has a superpower that you get some time around your 18th birthday. Some people have telekinesis, some people can time travel, some people can channel the dead, some people can turn into a cat, and so on. The show mainly follows Jen, a 25 year old woman who never got her powers. The vibes of the show are great, they really nailed the aesthetic of being poor and young and living in London, and the characters are fantastic and really well written. I'd say in terms of vibes alone, the show it reminds me most of is Community.
I've heard good things about it, although I haven't watched any of it yet.

Started Jedi Survivor. Really cool so far. Just beat >!the 9th Sister!<. Taking me a bit to get back into the combat flow but I'm very happy to already have dual sabers at my disposal. Very pretty too. Game runs well (?) on performance mode but the transition to cutscenes is extremely jarring and kinda uncomfortable on the eyes as they are still clearly in 30fps and transitions are really not smooth. Like, the flow between where a character enters a cutscene and their actual position in the 'immediate moment following' of the cutscene is never accurate. Also heard the fans on my Series X for the first time ever.

At least when I'm awake I don't literally grind my teeth or clench my jaw, but I do tend to like. Randomly *tap* my teeth together, often rhythmically lol. Unless that's actually what it means, I don't really understand how a person could actually grind their teeth in a literal sense, it seems like it would be extremely difficult with the way they mesh together. However I do wear a night guard that has been torn completely to shreds (to shreds). So clearly something is going on lol.

I know they probably wanted to make that opening as short as possible so people wouldn't get up at their asses again but I think it's hilarious how the vault tec guy knocks at your door to get you signed up for the vault thing like two minutes before Nuclear Armageddon, surely this could have been paced better

Why is the 10mm pistol such a beast in Fallout 4? Put a few points into gun nut, slap a few mods on it, and the 10mm will carry the Sole Survivor through the early & mid game of Fallout 4. It’s no surprise no one ends up using pipe weapons when this monster is literally the first gun you get. I remember it being good in Fallouts 3 & NV, but I don’t think I used the 10mm as much in those games as I did in FO4

Caught up on The Bad Batch in time for the final episode next week Good show. Second best Star Wars series till the end. Very much has kids show sensibilities, after all it's a story about a bunch of wacky clones with generic personalities - the big one that likes explosives, the pedantic nerd, etc. - protecting a plucky kid and they obviously pull a lot of punches when it comes to what they can depict but it still manages to go harder in both tone and sometimes content than any of the live action shows (excluding Andor). There's a bunch of very lighthearted episodes (which are fun) and kiddy humor but once they get to the big story moments they do an incredible job at tension and atmosphere. Also (like I mentioned a bunch of times before) I think it just looks really good. The things that two decades of experience creating animation in one visual style can do.
