well typically i don’t think all of the colors that a bruise goes through show up all at once in any point but i may be wrong. It wouldn’t be that prominent of all the colors at least.
Bruises have phases of colors until it gets released in your poop making it brown.
I mean I have a bruise from a blood draw gone wrong that looks exactly like this right now (but heart shaped though). But it has all the colors at once right now: purple, some red, some blue, yellow-green.
Not defending this tattoo, just saying it looks exactly like the bruise I have on my arm rn lol
I can't help but feel like the words baby and cry being added to a bruise tattoo has a terrible background story. Hopefully it helps the survivors feel better, assuming that is who has those tattoos.
The Victorians* used to paint blue veins on their faces and necks because they thought the people dying of the hot new disease were like so hot. Glassy eye, sickly skinny, sickly pale you could see the veins (and creates the illusion of not wearing foundation).
Humans don’t change that much I suppose.
*not sure if I got who was ruling at the time correct.
no and they used to cut their self so their skin would be pale because tan people worked outside in fields so pale skin was a sign of status and wealth (not working in the sun/fields same with being fat/large meant you had access to a lot of food i.e. royalty
Lol, the whole fat thing is blown way out. Being basically a skinnier American/European was attractive. Being a regular American was not.
Like, add 30-50lbs to a fit individual, not 100-150lbs like people imagine.
Oh yeah, there aren't many under the IG tag [#bruisetattoo ](https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/bruisetattoo?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) but yeah it's a thing
That’s what I thought, I was like “it looks like a bruise, is it supposed to look like a bruise? Why?” It being a heart makes me think it has some symbolic meaning of abusive & traumatic relationships. But why on earth would someone want a permanent tattoo of a reminder of that. After leaving an abusive relationship, most people want to feel empowered by the healing that’s possible. But I feel like getting a bruise tattoo only fantasizes about the damage that was done, which seems counterintuitive to me.
And maybe it has nothing to do with that. But i feel like that’s an easy way for people to interpret it, so again, would someone get this?
Here's how the conversation will go anytime someone sees that tattoo.
"Yo, what the heck is that? Is that a bruise?"
"No, it's a tattoo! It's supposed to look like that, see?"
"Ooooh. That's... that's.... really interesting. Haven't seen one like that before, that's for sure. I'm glad you're happy with it."
...yeeeaah...as someone who has suffered from both I really tried to figure out why/how a fake bruise tattoo would be cute. The only idea I could think of was maybe the knees if someone was an athlete but that'd still be stupid...just get a bandaid tattoo kinda like Halsey has.
I cannot think of any reasonable explanation to get a fake bruise tatted. "Cute shape" or not. Smh
"Clients who have SH (self harm) addictions have told me that seeing something realistic on themselves would prevent them from actually causing them self harm. Some people want to represent internal pain with something visible."
That's from the artist and actually makes a lot more sense to me now with more context. I'd definitely feel empathetic and supportive towards someone who could come to terms with their pain that way. There's already so much stigma behind visible pain. This feels more like acceptance than glorification, depending on the person's intent.
That was my thought as well. Not that they’re glorifying abuse, possibly reminding themselves that sometimes the lines get blurred between what we perceive as love versus what’s actually a form of abuse. I’d imagine it’s some sort of statement like that instead of something condoning physical abuse. 🤷♀️
As someone who used to self harm, I find the artist’s reasoning questionable at best.
It isn’t solving the problem or working through the reasons behind it; it’s masking it through a socially acceptable form of enablement. I don’t really think it’s as helpful or empowering as they think it is.
It's hardly a socially acceptable form of enablememt at all if you just look at the majority of the comments. As someone who used to self harm as well, harm reduction can be even more beneficial for some people.
Being able to decrease the likelihood or severity of self harm should always be valid, even if you haven't gotten to the source. Even better if someone is enabled to work on their feelings as well because they're harming less. If they feel helped and empowered in their journey with self harm, I don't know how I have the knowledge to say they're wrong.
It’s not their reasoning, it’s the clients ho are getting the tattoo’s reasoning. Who are you to tell them what does or doesn’t help. Obviously it’s not addressing the issues behind the self harm, they’re a tattoo artist, not a therapist lol
Idk how I feel about the tattoos that look like they could come from some kind of trauma, but this reminds me of leaving hickey hearts on a romantic partner.
Fully agree with everyone here. Although, I am impressed by the artists skill, the execution is superb. The concept is beyond gross and wrong by the implications alone.
I would have tagged that, but I efed up the order a couple times so I gave up on tagging by that sub.
I blame the weed and dyslexia.
Mostly the weed though.
Edit; obey the robot masters.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
A friend of mine sent me a TikTok of a girl that got bloody/scraped knees tattooed. It looked pretty real and I thought it was a really absurd idea but I have to admit I sorta liked it. Not in a way that I’d ever want that on my body, but in a way that it looked cool on her in the moment. But, god, I cannot imagine how it’s going to look when she’s older lol
I used to sh, an injury tattoo might meet my need to feel broken without hurting myself. I love skid up knees and might get a tattoo like that on my knee. When I want to hurt myself, maybe the tattoo will validate the pain on the inside and keep me from hurting myself. Idk tho, but I love injury tattoos
i see where you are coming from i read it as a Masochism tat. but your interpretation should be taken to heart by anyone thinking of this kind of tattoo
Impressively done but I'm not sure the shape was a great idea. If I saw someone with this tattoo I'd think they got kicked by a really tall goat a few days ago
Is it a knee tattoo? I know a lot of people who like the bruised/scraped up knees look for fashion reasons. Makes it look like you just went on an adventure.
i don’t like this one but the other work this artist does is pretty cool. not something i would ever get but it’s executed well and accomplishes the desired effect and i think that’s cool
It’s actually really well done…definitely should have the business card of the artist though, cause this is so realistic it will tip off any mandatory reporter.
I seriously thought this was a terribly done tattoo, so bad, the person was bruised from it! Now that I realize what it is, I think it's pretty well done, and kinda cool!
I can understand the appeal coming from someone who has unconventional appearance tastes. With that said, not for me. I could personally see myself getting a fake bruise tattoo but something super small and hidden, I personally could not deal with the comments about it. Having to explain my logical tattoos already is annoying as is lol.
Did you say, “I’d like a domestic violence faded 8bit tattoo please?”
If so. You got what you paid for.
Is this a shitty tattoo?
Absolutely.
I’m curious to see what you asked for and what you were “promised.”
As a survivor of domestic violence, I think this is some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen. As an artist, I often wish I did tattoos so when people came to me and asked for stupid shit like this, I could tell them, "No, I'm not doing that. That's stupid."
Would I get THIS tattoo? No… however I think it is a WELL DONE tattoo. Maybe needs a little more eggplant/navy at the bottom of the heart 💜 but… I feel like for what they were going for they crushed it.
unpopular opinion, but this doesn’t glorify abuse at all??? so i’m not sure why everyone is saying that. like,,, y’all know there are many ways people get bruised other than abuse, right? i personally don’t dig it, but there’s nothing actually wrong with it. to each their own.
Makes me think someone may have actually done this, tried to precisely punch someone they “love” in a heart shape, while trying to explain in their fucked up logic how it’s a good thing.
I think they should get many cards with "it's a tattoo" printed so they can hand them out when people ask what happened.

r/ATBGE
Exactly fits. It's expertly done, and in such bad taste.
So true. Wrong colors. Beautiful technique
Wrong colors? Is this not supposed to be a heart-shaped bruise? Lol
I was thinking a hickey.
What do you think a hickey is?
Hickey= bruise my dude 😭😂
well typically i don’t think all of the colors that a bruise goes through show up all at once in any point but i may be wrong. It wouldn’t be that prominent of all the colors at least. Bruises have phases of colors until it gets released in your poop making it brown.

But it has all the colors at once right now: purple, some red, some blue, yellow-green. Not defending this tattoo, just saying it looks exactly like the bruise I have on my arm rn lol
What?
Nah those colors are pretty spot-on
I have light shading under a tattoo and get asked if it’s a bruise all the time- OP should get used to saying “it’s a tattoo” lol
They should get “ITS A TATOO” tattooed above it
>“ITS A TATOO” Except add an apostrophe
ITS A TA'TOO There
[was really inspired and decided to do a mock up 💖](https://imgur.com/a/0jx7fV2)
Maybe another t as well
TITS A TATOO
Lmao, made it better
Lmao 🤣
Amazing execution, it looks like it's supposed to look. But WHY would you want it to look like that?
I cant find it but its a whole IG page specializing in bruise tattoos
>SJ Horvath's realistic "cosmetic scrape, bruise and scar tattoos" [inkedmag](https://www.inkedmag.com/.amp/original-news/meet-the-tattooer-who-gives-you-bruises-that-never-heal)
Everyone's so creative.
See how that looks like we shouldn’t have done that but we did it anyway?
I read both in her voice lmao
See how it looks so differently different?
Me making bad decisions
Differently different!
She's amazing at what she does tbf. But WHY would anyone do that? This is peak r/ATBGE
this is terrible and I hate it
Well that's different.
“My name is SJ Horvath. Mother. Artist. Collector of oddities. Hillbilly….” Say no more.
I can't help but feel like the words baby and cry being added to a bruise tattoo has a terrible background story. Hopefully it helps the survivors feel better, assuming that is who has those tattoos.
Wh-...what the fuck?
idk dude its like those people that get their knees tattooed to look like theyre all scratched up
I’m just a klutz I don’t need to get tattoos of bruises and scrapes.
also a klutz but i was thinking maybe a band-aid below my elbow might be cute
A bandaid is different. I think that would be cute, especially if you really are accident-prone!
getting an injury on your band aid tattoo would be the ultimate irony

Iirc, it started as a way to suck up to the monarch, who was legitimately ill.
plz tell me ur joking
no and they used to cut their self so their skin would be pale because tan people worked outside in fields so pale skin was a sign of status and wealth (not working in the sun/fields same with being fat/large meant you had access to a lot of food i.e. royalty
Rumor has it that Fat angry Victorians still exist to this day.
Lol, the whole fat thing is blown way out. Being basically a skinnier American/European was attractive. Being a regular American was not. Like, add 30-50lbs to a fit individual, not 100-150lbs like people imagine.
People have also consumed things like arsenic to give you that deathly pallor that’s so in vogue.
Oh yeah, there aren't many under the IG tag [#bruisetattoo ](https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/bruisetattoo?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) but yeah it's a thing
I think it's a representation of "love hurts"
Possibly a BSDM thing
It's absolutely a BDSM thing and it's hilarious to me to read all the comments squicking about domestic violence.
I’m hoping it’s that kind of thing and not someone romantizicing domestic violence smh
I wonder if it's a statement on abusive relationships
Is it meant to be a heart shaped bruise??
According to OP in another reply, yes, and apparently there's a whole IG account dedicated to "bruise tattoos". ...WHY
Oh man 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
shit. it was supposed to be a giraffe
That’s what I thought, I was like “it looks like a bruise, is it supposed to look like a bruise? It's to memorialise my boyfriend who beat me ❤️❤️❤️ he died in a drunk driving accident he caused.
Stoppppp 😭😂
His parents have matching tattoos of the holes he punched in their drywall ❤️

Lmao, "fragile masculinity", such a perfect title 😂
Gotta support our men in blue
Omg 😳😂
r/ATBGE As a tattoo artist, I’m impressed. As someone with eyes, I’m horrified.
It's late in the evening so I have the tired giggles. I can't stop laughing at your comment. It's true.. it's well done but why?!
I’m feeling the same way, I laughed so hard I cried. 😂
First thought for me is that it romanticizes domestic violence. So no.
or self harm
...yeeeaah...as someone who has suffered from both I really tried to figure out why/how a fake bruise tattoo would be cute. Thank you...your interpretation really adds another meaningful and relatable layer. It's certainly an evocative piece.

Yeah, that logic is shaky at best. Idk about y’all but self harm for me is a reliable way to quickly release endorphins and/or punish myself.
Idk how I feel about the tattoos that look like they could come from some kind of trauma, but this reminds me of leaving hickey hearts on a romantic partner.
Lol I forgot about those. I feel like they were more of a trend at some point. This guy has definitely done some hickey tattoos.
Fully agree with everyone here. Although, I am impressed by the artists skill, the execution is superb. The concept is beyond gross and wrong by the implications alone.
Yep, my first thought was that it fits the criteria for r/ATBGE

***First thought:*** “Wow that’s a really good artist” ***Second thought:*** “Fits this page still unfortunately.”
“He hit me and it felt like a kiss” was the first thing that came to mind
i see where you are coming from i read it as a Masochism tat. but your interpretation should be taken to heart by anyone thinking of this kind of tattoo
100% Sad these became a trend…
r/ATBGE
Beat me to it
“Beat” me to it? 🤔
B)
This screams “ he hurts me because he loves me” Or but instead of because
this screams “I thought the Eminem song Love The Way You Lie was deep and profound”
Why are they trying to make bruise shaped tattoos?
It's very well done. I'm not a fan of it.
Impressively done but I'm not sure the shape was a great idea. If I saw someone with this tattoo I'd think they got kicked by a really tall goat a few days ago
I just had an image of a goat UFC special. Thanks for the chuckles.
I kinda dig it
Looks like they fell on a heart shaped cookie cutter
It's really really well done! But it's also in absolutely terrible taste.
Looks like a gross healing bruise
It’s supposed to
That makes it suck even more
I still love my abusive ex
Weird bruise
It's done so well I thought bruise art was some new weird trend
Im here for my touch-up, add more bruisy colors
You know those cringe couples that give each other hickeys in the shape of a heart?
Looks like she god rammed by Barbie's dream car
It’s either a very well done bruise tattoo, or a terrible watercolor tattoo 😂
Its giving “He hit me and it felt like a kiss”
As a domestic abuse survivor this is disgusting and partly why DA will never stop
They got what they wanted. This is a good tattoo in that sense so no hate
Kinda cool looks like a bruise.
What the fuck is this 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Is it...suppose to look like a bruise?
Awful before and after
Is it a knee tattoo? I know a lot of people who like the bruised/scraped up knees look for fashion reasons. Makes it look like you just went on an adventure.
this sub is filled to the brim with normies
The “retouch” made it even worse
why….
i don’t like this one but the other work this artist does is pretty cool. not something i would ever get but it’s executed well and accomplishes the desired effect and i think that’s cool
if it was supposed to look like a bruised heart, nailed it.
wowwww! the talent involved in making similar size/pressured hickies in a heart pattern is wow
that is definitely a bruise ♡ tattoo
It’s actually really well done…definitely should have the business card of the artist though, cause this is so realistic it will tip off any mandatory reporter.
as a masochist id totally get this
Wrong sub but different for sure
I hate the added yellow bits in the healed photo. The fresh one Isn’t my style either but it looks more aesthetically pleasing.
I want this now lol
Sucks cause one time an ex abusive partner bit me so hard it left a scar similar so I then got a tattoo to cover it
This makes me sad.
i like this a lot
Fits better in r/ATBGE. Well done, looks like a bruise, it's just grounded on kind of an awful premise.
This looks almost exactly like when you get kicked by a horse wearing bar shoes lol
That’s cool. They did a good job. Not shitty just an interesting idea.
Why?
I seriously thought this was a terribly done tattoo, so bad, the person was bruised from it! Now that I realize what it is, I think it's pretty well done, and kinda cool!
this is actually phenomenal, I love it
i think it’s neat!!
I actually kinda like it
It's kind of awesome.
I feel like this can be made into something awesome.
I can understand the appeal coming from someone who has unconventional appearance tastes. With that said, not for me. I could personally see myself getting a fake bruise tattoo but something super small and hidden, I personally could not deal with the comments about it. Having to explain my logical tattoos already is annoying as is lol.
TIL bruise tattoos are a thing. Flawless execution. I once had a bruise that looked like Gene Simmons from Kiss. Didn’t want the tattoo though
Did you say, “I’d like a domestic violence faded 8bit tattoo please?” If so. You got what you paid for. Is this a shitty tattoo? Absolutely. I’m curious to see what you asked for and what you were “promised.”
I love the look of bruises, so I loveeee this
Bruise Core 😍

that bruise is deffs not healed
Makes me think someone may have actually done this, tried to precisely punch someone they “love” in a heart shape, while trying to explain in their fucked up logic how it’s a good thing.
I don’t hate it but I also have a fascination with bruises.
This isnt a shitty tattoo. Its well done, just a little odd
i like it.
Looks like ringworm
That’s a cute bruise
..i like bruise and wound tattoos..
cute
Looks like a bruise…a very cool bruise though
Hmm seems like r/atbge to me ? I don’t understand why, but it does fulfill it’s purpose of looking like a bruise ?
That’s the most beautiful bruise I’ve ever seen!
I’d love for this artist to do hand prints around my neck 😍🥰
Wow that’s ugly
My immediate thought was this is a "derby kiss" tattoo and I love it! You people go dark so quick, sheesh.
I wouldn't want a fresh bruise tattoo, but it was well done
Weird but not shitty.
Personally I like it. Never seen a tattoo made to look like a bruise and heart is the best one you can do
I think the fresh looks more real than the healed one
It's the cutest hickey I've ever seen
The artist nailed but It will be a very cute coverup in a few months
Did they want it to look like a bruise Lmao
Impressive work, still a bad idea.
I actually think I kinda get the concept
Is this supposed to look bruised on purpose?
Not my cup of tea .
Looks like the knelt on a heart shaped cookie cutter
" Yeah my man drinks stella" vibes.
I think it looks like shit but hey, to each their own. Still more artistically sound than brutal black.
So bad it’s kind of good.
I looks like you got your arm sucked on by a huge sucker fish .
It looks like she got hit by a lance with a cookie cutter for the tip.
I kind of love it
Looks like a fucked up bruise lol
i like it honestly. it’s well done for what it’s supposed to be, and i get the aesthetics of it.
Oof, honestly the best bruise tat I've seen, looks painful
I kinda like it.
It’s so realistic for a tattoo
I feel like it says Love isn’t supposed to hurt. I would totally get this as a person who has been subjected to domestic violence.
It looks like a bruise. The healed one looks even more like a bruise. Not a fan of it, tbh
