It was a thick ol branch for me, went to ollie it at a ridiculous speed as the path was smooth and downhill, landed nose first and went ass over tit (literally bounced off of my shoulder) into a ditch of barbed wire and shite.
Yay collar bones!! I broke mine snowboarding. And then tried to go skate before it was properly healed. First try manual on the park box and slipped out at the end hitting my shoulder on the edge. Broken again…
My collar bone story doesn’t pertain to skateboarding!! I fell off my bunkbed at 6yo and my feet caught the dresser next to the bed and whipped my body shoulder first into the ground… my mom tried putting me back in bed…
Im not an invincible young fella anymore, I’m done with eating shit from pebbles and cracks lol. Them 55mm super juice minis have saved me some grief (not to say I haven’t eaten shit with them on haha, but I’m not worrying about rocks so much!)
A single shoulder dislocation after falling on a mini ramp, turned into over 40 dislocations because i didn't let it heal completely, 6 surgeries, 2 infections, 2 weeks in the hospital, 2 picc lines, 2 years worth of antibiotics, a home healthcare nurse, over two years of physical therapy, and i'm still walking around with a shoulder that needs to be completely rebuilt and I have not been able to pick up my son with my right arm since he was born. And, I still skate every chance I get.
My man 💪
I also shattered whole shoulder, broke 7 bones from my arm and got permanent nerve damage, multiple surgeries later I still cant do any heavy lifting and don't have much movement on my right arm but still have to skate when I can haha
I know you don't want to hear this, but you should really see a doctor. I tried to be the local skate park tough guy, I got right back on my board and a couple of days later I fell and popped my shoulder right back out. That second dislocation was my downfall and would lead me to having no support in my shoulder, causing dislocations at even the slightest movement, to include washing a window or even putting your socks on; that little bit of pressure dislocates my shoulder. My problem is that I have severely perforated my labrum. If you continually use it while it's swollen and inflamed, not healed, those muscles do not have time to heal and tighten, and in the long run can turn and into more dislocations, which, although they come easier, still do extensive damage inside your shoulder. I have almost no labrum left, that is from all the dislocations, and a labrum does not regrow. Once it's gone, you're relying on parts that are literally put together by a couple of small screws, they are not very strong; I have broken one stent and two bone blocks. Just remember, normal healthy shoulders do not dislocate, and one dislocation makes you highly likely to have more.
Sorry for the rant.
Thank you for taking the time to respond and sharing your experience. I have had issues with my shoulder before but this was the first time it stayed out of place until a very kind stranger helped me put it back. (thank you Jacob!!) I actually got it on film too. I am already itching to get back on my board but there is no way I could take another slam.
My balls have entered the chat:
'97 I was trying to throw down some hard flips. Started OK, got feeling good, hit it down three stairs, popsicle on five.
Six stitches just to the right of my bag and four more on the bag, which was pinched in the process.
I got lucky I didn't get castrated. Both my doctor and I agree.
I should have been castrated, my baby mamas agree.
My worst off camera is probably breaking my ankle trying to kickflip a 5 set, front foot went too far to get back over the board and when I fell I folded it.
I did a similar one to this. Rolled my ankle 360° nosesliding a perfect marble ledge in Baltimore. Then I got the privilege of flying across the country while my ankle swelled up like a grapefruit.
It was, the trick for that was a very slow ride in first gear home. The ride was maybe 4 miles but still sucked, when I got home I had my neighbor park my bike for me.
Broke the pinky toe bone in my foot this exact same way. Not the toe but the long bone connected to it, thought it was my ankle that rolled at first but turned out to be my foot folding.
Used to manage a skate shop, a worker from the shop called me to say he can’t come in to work because he ‘hurt his arm and is going the the hospital’ he then sent me a photo of his elbow bone coming out the back of his arm (like fully through the skin), turns out a plastic bag got caught in his wheel in the bowl and got completely sent to the bottom of the vert ramp. Two days later he was back on the board, doing airs in the vert with a cast on. I love skaters
Drunk as piss at a party. Homies decide to go hit this longer than normal 6 rail. Back nose grind, but instead of squatting the landing I just kind of leaned forward. Leg snapped the wrong way. Goodbye ACL / meniscus. Insult to injury, my girlfriend at the time (also drunk) was standing over me yelling "Stop being a bitch. It's not that bad." Fun times. Don't drink and skate. Or do. Whatever. I'm not your mom.
Skating as a kid and didn't know how to fall too well. Tre flip down a 6 set to a rolled ankle. Had to call my mom to swoop me in the mini van and spent my spring break that year playing Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2.
Also bombing a hill late night in college drunk with some friends, hit a gap in the pavement at the bottom and was thrown forward at like a million miles an hour. Rolled it out mostly and had to relocate my shoulder but wasn't terrible all things considered.
Only time I split/hit my head, was at my favorite DIY with three little kids accompanied by one of their grandmas watching and hyping me up. Had to get the grandmas help wrapping my head up before getting out of there.
I had just finished my shift at work literally right next to the park, started warming up and these kids are hyping me up going WOAHHHHH and shit so I was feeling good. I’ve legit been there like 3 minutes total, just hitting this little bank to curb and start falling backwards. Thing is, I could have just ate the impact easily but decided to do the backwards slide on your ass. I THOUGHT I had a bunch of flat ground behind me for some reason, despite knowing the place like the back of my hand. I did not. Ended up smacking my head on this weird little roller while still sitting upright basically. Immediately feel the blood rushing down my head, and this little dude with wide eyes just stammers
“uuHHHH I think you’re bleeding…”
I didn’t respond cuz I was a bit preoccupied trying to get my bearings back and get my shirt off off stop the bleeding
“Yeahhhh you’re like bleeding a LOT”
Thanks bud, I noticed that….
But I laughed it off and tried to turn it into a lesson for the kids and said some bullshit like “SEEE that’s why you always wear a helmet, of course the ONE day I forget mine!”
Grandma was literally unfazed which kinda cracked me up, had her tie my lifeguard uniform around my head (my dumbass was too embarrassed to step back into work and get care from my coworkers and thought they’d stop letting me skate on my breaks lmao) and I took the long way out of the park. Definitely looked like a fucking tweaker with my wife beater bloodied to shit and my big ass sweater fashioned as some sort of turban hobbling back to my car.
Best part was me and my girl had a whole weekend beach trip planned that we were supposed to be leaving for right when I got home, but I just haddddd to get a quick sesh in… she was not very pleased.
That was quite a wall of text but, yeah, bonked my noggin pretty good and got a sick ass scar on my head. Never went to the doctor because I’m kind of a dumbass, but still kickin 👍🏻
Frontside tail on our garage quarter with only 6 inches or so of deck. Tail slipped put, arm went against the wall and I slid down the ramp. The coping slammed into my armpit while my wrist was against the wall above my head, dislocating my shoulder. That first time was really gnarly, the ball of my shoulder was almost under my nipple. The nurse who walked in and saw me first almost passed out and turned right around for the doctor
Top 3:
1. Was bombing a garage I grew up skating. On the last ramp which is the steepest I started pushing really hard to go as fast as possible. When I went to put my foot back on my board I swiped it and got tossed backwards smacking my head. Got concussed, a hemorrhage, and lost my ability to walk / balance for about a month.
2. End of the day and knew I should’ve called it. Went to feeble fakie a qp, wasn’t going fast enough to hit the coping, and when I went to pivot to fakie to correct myself my legs slipped from under me and I through my arm straight back into the qp. Broke my humerus in 3 places and hit my head.
3. Kicked my board under a turnstile and went to step over it. Without thinking I stepped onto the board and thought “ahh shit. whatever this is fine”. When I stood all the way up my board shot from underneath me and I slammed my elbow into the ground. Broke my elbow lol. (I had a fresh tattoo on my left arm and a hot coffee in the other. I didn’t wanna slam on my tattoo or spill my coffee so I fucking bodied myself lol. Saved the tattoo and the coffee though)
And here i am. Broke my right wrist first time dropping into a kiddie ramp at 15. Kinda same ramp 15 years later left wrist while rock...to fakie... that's it. I obviously can't fall (bail) properly in kiddie ramps.
You must shred tho.
Tore ligaments in my ankle at 18, was just trying to Ollie over a board on flat. Was too dark, front foot came down in front of my nose and rolled over. Still can't practice heelflips at 25, but a few tries every session is enough for me.
My worst is probably pretty tame. Doing a kickflip up a bank and I landed on the tail of my board. It flew up and hit my nose- loads of blood, caused permanent change to the shape of my nose. I also had bruising under my eyes. It just stands out cause I was like 12 and I had never seen so much blood before.
Kick flipped a 4 stair and broke my board in 7th grade. Next day I set up a new deck to go back and land it clean. After setting up a the deck I went to my driveway popped a flat ground kick flip and landed back foot on tail front foot on ground. The board popped up and smacked my face tore my whole lip open and knocked out my tooth I had to get like 20 stitches inside and outside of my lip and a fake tooth on the bottom row
I’ve been skating 14 years and haven’t broken anything yet, rolled my ankle a few times, hit my head too many times and probably sacked about as many times, spilled blood a bunch of times too but I’ve been really lucky.
After my 5th year I stopped trying bigger gaps, etc. because too many of my friends were breaking their shit to be honest, and it kinda shows. I can skate a mini ramp decently, have a good bag of flat ground tricks and small stairs are cool but I don’t touch handrails/hubbas to be honest. I totally became a bitch haha
Knocked my front left tooth out about 3/4 months into skating back in early 2002 when I was in 8th grade.
By knocked out I mean I went off my little 5in kicker ramp somehow the board landed straight up as I was falling towards, it caught behind my back front tooth and wrenched it out the front of my gums - the tooth went flying past my friend who went and picked it up haha
Every other major injury I got later in skating was on film - broken ankle, torn ACL/MCL (oh except my fractured wrist, but that wasn't too bad)
(Double edit: I totally just remembered I got a concussion once too - that wasn't on film)
Broken collarbone, torn PCL, I’ve rolled my left ankle countless times to the point it won’t bend properly, had to learn to wipe my ass with the other hand a couple times too because it hurt whichever wrist that was injured so much
Years and years ago I did a drop to bank and caught my wheel on the bank and fell about 6 feet to my face and shattered out 4 teeth. I consider myself lucky because that was all that got. But my mouth is still fucked after multiple surgeries.
Bombing a particularly steep hill in my childhood area and nearly got hit by truck. Concussion, collar bone broken in two places, one broken rib and two bruised ribs, sprained wrist, and road rash(my back look like I got mauled by a bear lol). Jumped off my board and tried to run out but I was going too fast for all that lol
Alot of skate injuries and just injuries in general over the years but that one particular always sticks out when I think back
bombed a hill, got speed wobbles tried to jump off and run it out, tip of my shoe tripped me up and I face planted with no helmet on asphalt. was out for a moment, took me over a decade to get comfortable on a board again
did a boardslide on a flatbar like i did 1000 times. somehow stuck in the middle of it and flew forward. i landed on the side of the flatbar but my arm was still on it under me. i snapped both bones in my left arm and one of them stuck out on the underside of my arm. had to get emergency surgery and have now a titanium plate on each of them.
Hyperextended my knee on a 100 + degree weather day in Yuma az. I was by myself and couldn’t stand up so I had to crawl to my car on top even hotter ground lol
Soft tissue damage on top of my foot from doing an Ollie over a small gap… skating gaps 10 stairs+ but it’s always something trivial that ends up causing damage. (Skating for about 20 years)
I got hit by 2 cars, one when I was 16, one when I was around 20/21. First one broke my foot, since that's all that (surprisingly) got hit. Second one didn't yield any injuries, but it was more comical, as it was my neighbor who hit me.
When I was younger and dumber, I was at an art walk with my homie for the free wine and we were skating by our house later on and I got on my board and immediately fell directly on my face and knocked half a tooth off right in front.
Don't drink a bunch of free wine and skate, kids. Or do. I'm not your dad.
Intra articular compound fracture of distill radius and ulna with severed dcl. Lots of big words that say I broke my wrist inside the cartilage bad enough bones came out of the skin and severed a ligament, the dcl. 20 years later, still no ligament and my wrist is a bit funny but I still ride.
Doing a six set handrail at UMass Amherst at the fine arts center.... They're black slick handrails sturdy but made of PVC piping. Really fucking fast. Have to hit them with speed... Looped out fell and The first thing to hit the ground to break my fall was my thumb.. I wish i had a photo of it. They just kind of picked it up and put it back on top and stitched it back... Still works. Not 100%. Never will unless I have extensive surgery which I'm not going to be able to afford that. But I can still jerk off if I need to with my right hand...
Bent my knee sideways doing a manual. A fucking manual. Ollie up a 2 set to manual, wiggle wiggle, patella sub-luxed and chunked out my meniscus. Causing severe swelling and an exorbitant amount of recovery time. To add insult to injury, the chunk of patella tissue continued to float around in my knee and causing occasional swelling and frequent lock ups. Was too poor to get knee surgery to fix it.
The lock ups them selves have caused a handful of dope slams where I would be rolling up to a gap or stairs, bend to pop, and then my knee would lock basically with no time to pussy push and no way to casually bail. One time this caused me to catch a leg on a handrail I was doing a truck over and just blapped me to the ground.
Tibia and fibula snapped both clean in half when I was 12. The culprit was a curb. Quack of a doctor fucked up setting it and had to do it twice. Worst pain I've ever had in my life. I picked up skateboarding again recently but at close to 30 me and all the other people my age at the park just slide around fully padded while we watch their kids just tear it up flying off the ramps
14 ft skinny ramp into half pipe.wheel off edge at bottom elbow and shoulder rash from concrete rolled part way up ramp. A friend Billy a ex pro skater who face planted and broke his face pretty bad said you gotta get back up there which I did.
Pebble in wheel = snapped collarbone
It was a thick ol branch for me, went to ollie it at a ridiculous speed as the path was smooth and downhill, landed nose first and went ass over tit (literally bounced off of my shoulder) into a ditch of barbed wire and shite.

i did mine with trying a handplant on a vert ramp. Now have nerve damage for life, dangerous sport
Aha! Two broken wrist's for me... Flying forwards hands out at speed. Such fun!
Im not an invincible young fella anymore, I’m done with eating shit from pebbles and cracks lol. Them 55mm super juice minis have saved me some grief (not to say I haven’t eaten shit with them on haha, but I’m not worrying about rocks so much!)

Fuckin heavy bro, hats off to still skating 🫡
That’s commitment right there, hats off to you dude!!
My man 💪 I also shattered whole shoulder, broke 7 bones from my arm and got permanent nerve damage, multiple surgeries later I still cant do any heavy lifting and don't have much movement on my right arm but still have to skate when I can haha
I just dislocated my shoulder yesterday. What do you mean by heal completely?
I know you don't want to hear this, but you should really see a doctor. Gnarly.
Tearing my ACL, meniscus, sprained MCL and fracture to the head of my fibula. Still awaiting surgery 🙃.
How long you been waiting?
Too long! Injury was March/April last year. Hopefully it'll be any week now but then I'm looking at atleast another 9 months until I'm on my board.
Damn dude, heal up fast.
Cheers dude, appreciate it.
Got a vicious infection on my arm once that sent me to the hospital for 5 days. I was doing a hospital flip. On flat lmao
Paralysis. Took my spine to a spine during a comp in Corona, Ca. Haven't walked since.
Shit man. I hope you’re doing ok.
Life is definitely different, but still amazing! I still "skate," but I do it differently these days... In a wheelchair.
That goes insanely hard. Kudos
My balls have entered the chat: '97 I was trying to throw down some hard flips. Started OK, got feeling good, hit it down three stairs, popsicle on five. Mines not that bad but when I was first trying hardflips on flat I popsicled myself on a board with razor tail that one was “fun”
That sucks, I was fortunate enough to be close to home, the fun privilege I had was trying to ride a motorcycle home with the broke ankle.
Ooh. Hopefully, it wasn't your right foot.
It was, the trick for that was a very slow ride in first gear home. The ride was maybe 4 miles but still sucked, when I got home I had my neighbor park my bike for me.
Damn. That sucks. I broke my right ankle and had to drive to the ER in high school. The whole time, I was just glad it wasn't the clutch foot. Lol.
Broke the pinky toe bone in my foot this exact same way. Not the toe but the long bone connected to it, thought it was my ankle that rolled at first but turned out to be my foot folding.

One of my worst wipe outs was the same thing lmao didn't help they have that song in SKATE 2 called "drunk skate sesh"
Skate 3 had a song called "bare feet on wet griptape". Another cool sounding idea but pretty bad in practice
My leg fell off while I was doing a 12 stair
I need some more details on this one
Skating as a kid and didn't know how to fall too well. Tre flip down a 6 set to a rolled ankle. Had to call my mom to swoop me in the mini van and spent my spring break that year playing Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2. Broken back
bombed a hill, got speed wobbles tried to jump off and run it out, tip of my shoe tripped me up and I face planted with no helmet on asphalt. was out for a moment, took me over a decade to get comfortable on a board again
Y’all are reminding me why I play golf now
I dislocated my right hip on a 6 foot spine ramp. 25 years later I still feel the pain.
did a boardslide on a flatbar like i did 1000 times. somehow stuck in the middle of it and flew forward. i landed on the side of the flatbar but my arm was still on it under me. i snapped both bones in my left arm and one of them stuck out on the underside of my arm. had to get emergency surgery and have now a titanium plate on each of them.

Tore my acl trying to boardslide a 10 rail when I was like 16 Also dislocated my shoulder when I was 21 when I slipped out of a backtail on a ledge
This past November I tore my quad tendon doing a ride on lipslide. Still in recovery.
Wheel vs crack in side walk = torn ligaments in knee. I can’t snowboard now because I can easily do it again.
Tore my thumb off backwards. Blood everywhere...
Bro how did that happen?! 😭 sounds horrible
That one time I rolled my ankle
14 ft skinny ramp into half pipe.wheel off edge at bottom elbow and shoulder rash from concrete rolled part way up ramp. A friend Billy a ex pro skater who face planted and broke his face pretty bad said you gotta get back up there which I did.
