There are still a few reasons to go there, depending on the character. If my character is not the LDB, I might still go to Solstheim for Tel Mithryn’s spells and staff enchanter, for Glover’s Blackguard gear, for the Azhidal gear, or possibly later for the Deathbrand set. But it can be hard to think of an in-character excuse to go there.
Now with AE, there’s also Ghosts of the Tribunal, which has some really cool gear from Morrowind.
I always follow the main quest until I get shouts, they make the game more fun to me and I don't mind dragon fights. I like Solstheim a lot and do pretty much everything there. The DLC I skipped entirely on my last playthrough was Dawnguard, I just couldn't stand being forced to have Serana as a companion again.
I recently made the decision not to do Dawnguard anymore. It isn’t fun for me, I don’t like a single one of the quests, and…well, yeah, Serana. I’m gonna miss Fura and a few others in the castle, but that’s about it. Just wasn’t worth the mental toll.
I cheated a bit on that playthrough by giving myself and follower crossbows and bolts, other than that, I didn't miss much about Dawnguard, over my life I've seen and read enough about vampires that I'm permanently burned out with them. I played through it 5 or 6 times and it was alright but I think I'm done with it, shouting Serana off high mountains has gotten boring.
I’ve literally only been to Solstheim twice, and once was an accident. The island doesn’t attract me at all. Other than going there the one time I activated the actual Dragonborn Questline and had to beat Miraak’s ass to get my dragon souls back, I’ve never been terribly interested.
I do Solthsheim every time and as early as I can without dying over and over. My favourite part of the game with great rewards.

Nowadays I only go there to get Enchanting training from Neloth and do the Unearthed quest when I want to be a destruction mage.
I see no reason for that. Solstheim is always worth exploring, Dragonborn or no.
