Definitely try advertising yourself first before paying for it. Advertising is something that anyone can do. Try Instagram, facebook, nextdoor, etc. Take before and after vids. You want to show people what you have to offer. The before and after are a good way of showing what people can expect in return for their money. You gotta be careful asking this question btw. A lot of people will promise to make your business succeed if you pay them an amount for advertising. In reality, it’s all unique to each business and most of it you can do yourself. Especially if you’re not making as much money, you don’t want to go around and spending more money. Bodywork is a good business and something that is in demand. You just have to convince people to go with you rather than the large businesses. See what you’re currently doing and see what ways you can improve. Look at YouTube as well. There’s much free information there that can help you. If you need specific help, I can try to help you as much as I can

If you enjoy the trade, my advice is to get a job at new car dealership and have it sponsor you to go to school and earn ASE certifications.  There is huge shortage of automotive technicians in U.S., over 200,000.  With your experience, you could probably start at $30 an hour.  Used car body/paint guys (restoration) are making as much as six figures.

I think you should start building a brand. Assuming you won't be going door to door for the rest of your life and eventually start your own workshop if not already. It doesn't matter what mode of marketing you are choosing, just make sure you retain your customers. You should also think about getting into car servicing as a car needs service regularly for sure but not body work. And in terms of ads you should consider building a landing page to showcase your skills and product if not already built. I can help you build one at an affordable price. DM me if needed. I'll be happy to help you.
