This “Dr. Direct Retainers” is under the same shell corp ownership that Smile Direct Club was/is. Camelot Venture Group and their slimy managing partner David Katzman. Don’t support this secondary scheme to rip more people off. Their principal business as registered with TN Secretary of State is the same as Camelot VG that was managing SDC.

veganlean

bro I really just need my last pair of retainers to be replaced. i’ll never speak to them again 😂

chelsearaesoto

The extent to which I understand this comment 😂😂😂

Ok_Heart_9706

Not a scam - former SDC user here. I ordered a retainer from them and received it today. Quality of the retainer is 100% identical to SDC retainers. In fact, the retainer also shipped from Nashville, TN where the former SDC facility was. Not sure if that’s a coincidence.

Key_Cantaloupe_6585

How long did it take to receive it?

Beneficial_Chef_9796

This company caused me to lose a tooth! They do not follow their patients properly. Be careful!

Lost-Gene-8496

Thank you for your response, based on that I went ahead and ordered.

Unknownize

Dd you receive them yet? I just received a text from them and I'm suspicious too.

Lost-Gene-8496

I just got mine. They were highly efficient. Email confirming payment, email confirming shipment, email confirming delivered. They fit great. They are totally legit. They had my molds from SDC for sure.

MakeGandalfGreyAgain

Yo, why is this the only thread you've ever commented on? Big red flags, folks

nzaf985

I just ordered mine and within a week they are shipped. This is not a scam and people who don't feel like redoing impressions its the best option if you finished your treatment with SDC to keep getting the same retainers you were from SDC.

MakeGandalfGreyAgain

I don't buy it

nzaf985

Whatever floats your boat my wife ordered the day after me and hers are being made right now, they send status emails the whole time every step of the way. Starting with confirmation that they located your Smile Direct Club scans / impressions…

EmbarrassedCell145

I just ordered mine today. How long did yours take to arrive?

nzaf985

Less than 2 weeks. Took them about 1 week to make them then ship them out via usps.

Alive-Abies8106

They look like a startup. Less than 100 followers. I’m cautious about buying from a new company with the same business model when a much larger one closed.

Commercial-Factor-10

How long did it take to recieve your retainers?

nzaf985

about 1 week from when I ordered.

Pleasant_Owl_3715

My original retainers were fairly thick and long-lasting. When I ordered a new pair after the bankruptcy the new one's were much thiner and had far less strength. My teeth began to move. I cleaned the old ones and continued using them. I'm wondering if the quality is like the original or still quite thin. Is the pair you received thin and easy to bend?

Internal-Tooth-4503

Antioch?  The ads look exactly like the ones SDC used and I'm guessing since they don't have a company anymore they are using the printers for this now.

OrganicNirnroot

smells like a bot

Bright_One1905

I hope you all are reading the privacy and arbitration policies on the site 👀. It’s clearly a scam from SDC.

arroyor

What do you mean? I am having trouble understanding the wording

Altruistic_Ad_5118

I am a real person and tbh it took both of my balls and a leap of faith to just go ahead and order. I sent them a reply email and someone got back with me within an hour and reassured me. I was reluctant because I ordered retainers right before sdc closed, they took my money and I never got them. So I sent this company the money and they sent my retainers and they came faster than sdc ever did, and they fit. Actually The tops fit but the bottoms don’t but it’s okay. My teeth had shifted anyway.

Desperate-Art1823

Don’t put a dollar into them! They don’t deserve your business

RecordingPretty2577

You’re not wrong. Do you happen to have any suggestions for affordable custom retainers for people without dental coverage? I’m struggling and I’ve had these retainers for WAY too long.

EducationalCarpet347

I think a site called remi is another one

KayBaby5855

SportingSmiles is legit, I've ordered from them 5+ times

Ddevita411

Not a scam! I’m a real person, former SDC user and I was devastated when they went out of business - worried about my teeth moving. I was skeptical about Dr. Direct too, but I saw on their site that they have a 100% refund and thought, why not? They seemed legit. I just got my retainers and opened them and they’re the same quality as SDC and fit my teeth perfectly. I don’t know why people are saying it’s a scam or telling you to back away - sounds like they don’t know what they’re talking about. Anyway, not a scam. Enjoy that smile!

Ordinary-Fan836

What they are doing is clearly unethical

Prestigious_Humor518

Because they are Smile Direct. And they are trying to squeeze more money from customers.

WorkingWithTheAngels

I heard from speaking with the owner of one of the other companies that the 3D-scan model was financially unsustainable during COVID and SDC ended up having to file for bankruptcy. They have had class action lawsuits brought against them, but those have “concluded,” so it’s impossible to get your money back from SDC at this point unless you go after them individually. After filing for bankruptcy, SDC had to change its name; it essentially “became” Dr. Direct. It’s the same info and process (although you can’t get any new scans at this point) and it’s only small now because people are afraid it’s a scam. I’ve looked at several other options on the list of people who do putty impressions; (necessary of your teeth have drastically shifted like mine). If you need new impressions, I would just check the BBB before going with “Retainers Direct,” as they have a Ton of complaints. Hope this was helpful!

Geri420_

I ordered my retainers from DDR and had to send in an impression twice because they stated the impressions were no good enough I received my retainers and they dont fit The left side is fine - it’s the right side way back by the molars that seem off. . They are heavier material than smile direct which feels really bulky . Also the bottom of the retainers have a lip which constantly scrapes my tongue. I asked for a refund and they wanted photos and gave me tips on how to try to make them fit. Still aren’t fitting At this point I’ve tried all their suggestions. I just want my money back so I can go somewhere else ! Waiting for them to respond now

lumpyballoon

I think people are cautious only because it is affiliated with SDC, which comes off a little greedy considering how they ended things with previous customers

Curious-Feedback-203

THEY ARE A SMILE DIRECT CLUB REBRAND SPINOFF OWNED BY CAMELOT VENTURE GROUP AND THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S THEM...!!!

Curious-Feedback-203

THEY ARE A SMILE DIRECT CLUB REBRAND SPINOFF OWNED BY CAMELOT VENTURE GROUP AND THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S THEM...!!!

strizz16

I did a little research. Dr Direct Retainer is owned by Camelot Venture Group. This is the same scumbags that owned SDC have ripped of thousands of people and didn't give them a refund. If you want to work with this terrible company again its up to you. I would go to someone else who has been in business for longer than 2 months.

NoIllustrator7992

Yes I received a message from them yesterday I believe it might be a scam

RamonesRazor

Not a scam. Looks like SDC sold their customer base to them.

Prestigious_Humor518

They are Smile Direct.

RamonesRazor

Well, there you go. Easy way for them to get some cash flow and pay back their creditors.

Lazy_Point170

Someone forgot about HIPAA laws. These new people should not have any medical info/contact info about me when I've never dealt with them or authorized SDC to do so. I emailed them today and they sent an email back saying they are not affiliated with SDC, only working on behalf of the dentist that treated me. Wrong move!

Traditional-One3623

Its a no from me. Their Facebook page was created on the 09 March, not long enough for me to trust them.

Competitive-Pear2423

I have a question ? Okay so I finished my treatment from smile direct club back in November of 2023 . They literally just sent this new “dr smile direct “ retainers thing … I told smile direct club I am not going to continue to make payments and they will just have to put it on my credit because even after my treatment was done, they did not fulfill the long lifetime smile guarantee with the retainers. They are just now bringing them out 4 to 5 months later after my treatment ……my teeth have already shifted back. Do I need to order new aligners elsewhere or could the retainer shift back to make my teeth straight again

Warm-Parsley9482

your retainers will shift your teeth back to where you last left off. you’ll have to order a new set of aligners if you weren’t happy with that

WorkingWithTheAngels

Does anyone know if they are able to take new impressions if you weren’t happy with your original results? My retainers worked but the final result gave my front teeth a crooked appearance.

ambielf11

Yes, they will send you the putty to make new impressions in that case.

WorkingWithTheAngels

They only use the records from the final set you received, so if your teeth have shifted there’s not much you can do. I found a place that does putty impressions, has better quality plastic and will ship you retainers that won’t hurt your mouth. That’s only if you’re happy with where your teeth are now, though. I spoke to the owner of the company and apprarently millions of people are suing Smile Direct and winning. I’m going to see if there’s a Class Action Lawsuit so I can at least get some compensation toward my new smile!

iDrinkPlainMilk

What was name of place, I’m happy with my teeth, would just like a nicer set of retainers

WorkingWithTheAngels

Well, I was going to post it on here but I only spoke with the owner of the company, who says there’s so many people switching from SDC that they’re way behind, and they ended up getting a negative review in another Reddit forum because the person never received their retainers, so I don’t know if I’ll go with them. Sporting Smiles seems to get good reviews.

WorkingWithTheAngels

The other place was called Retainers Direct.

ambielf11

Sorry, I read that wrong I think. They can only make a retainer to match how your teeth now, not to make any changes.

Postwaro27

Yes, my wife and daugther got one. They completed the S/D program a few years ago and have been using the retainers. We've been trying to get a copy of the 3d files to the retainers so we can have them made else where but have had no luck. We're trying to find out if Dr Direct is legit or not.

Curious-Feedback-203

THEY ARE A SMILE DIRECT CLUB REBRAND SPINOFF OWNED BY CAMELOT VENTURE GROUP AND THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S THEM...!!!

Postwaro27

Yes, I found that out not long ago. Frankly, I don't care who's running it now. I got 5 grand invested into two mouths so I'm buying those retainers. My wife got hers and the fit flawlessly. Still waiting for my daughters to arrive though.

RecordingPretty2577

Did the retainers match the new 3D impression or were they for the old one? I got a 3D impression done and ordered the retainers for it, but the company shut down right before they arrived. The prior impression gave me cuts on my gums, so I was very much looking forward to a more comfortable set of aligners.

Postwaro27

The retainers we got were from the original retailer file. If you didn't complete the program of aligners, you probably don't have a retainer file on record yet.

Lost-Gene-8496

They are completely legit, just got mine and they fit perfect.

Global-Source-9383

I received this as well and wanted to make sure it was real

Pleasant-Emu-7658

I placed an order for the retainers through dr. Direct. They reached out via email. Easy to set up subscription. Received within package within 2 weeks. Seems like a regular aligner from SDC. I see why you would have to replace them every 6 months. They’re smoother around the edges. Didn’t have to file down. I haven’t worn them yet bc I’m not on the final tray yet. Hopefully they’ll fit when the time comes.

Unknownize

Well I bit the bullet and placed the order. I'll let you know if I receive them in a few weeks. finished on 2/14/24 and was never sent retainers so finally I guess. The last aligners are almost shot.

Odd_Conversation_285

Any updates

indomitablekev

Any updates to this?

Unknownize

sorry everyone USPS lost my retainers on day of delivery. A new set is supposed to be sent out this week. Just my luck right.

Unknownize

USPS lost them on day of delivery. I'm waiting for the new set to get shipped out this week.

Lumpy_Cry_2694

Any updates?

Unknownize

USPS lost my retainers the day they were out for delivery. (Just my luck). they're supposed to send out the replacement set this week sometime. hopefully I'll have them by Friday.

Lumpy_Cry_2694

lol they said that to me today when I emailed them asking why it still said they hadn’t shipped yet. They replied that they’re sending me a replacement set already. Told them if I don’t see the first set physically ship within the next two days I’ll be disputing the charge and reporting them to the BBB. My teeth have already shifted and I could have gone to an orthodontist a week ago before they shifted, to have a mold made, but I thought this would be a cheap and quick alternative. Boy was I wrong.

Unknownize

yeah my last set of aligners have a hole worn through them and a crack forming off of that and it won't last long. if I don't see them ship by Friday I'm going to dispute it and go to an orthodontist and pay the $500 they want and just be done with it ha...

Lumpy_Cry_2694

I may have misjudged. The tracking number now says that they’ll be here Saturday the 18th. I emailed them yesterday, thinking it was a scam, saying I will report them to BBB and dispute the transaction if I don’t see the retainers have physically shipped within the next two days. That probably kicked them into gear lol.

Unknownize

I just threatened the same as it's now been 2.5 weeks since I ordered my replacement ones and they still haven't shipped. I called them out in a very long windes email saying I am going to the BBB and my original order shipped within a week and somehow I'm getting the run around for over 2 weeks on the replacement and now theyre saying processing time is 2-3 weeks not the "your order will ship within 2 weeks" that the email confirmation said.

Lumpy_Cry_2694

That’s awful. I’m sorry, your experience sounds worse than mine. Let me know if they assume any urgency after the email. That’s the only thing that seemed to work for me!

Unknownize

They just gave me the same copy paste reply from 5/10. I told them I'll be contactingy attorney general to start an investigation into shady business practices. I also called them out for sending the same copy paste reply from 5/10. irritating as all hell. let this serve as a warning to future "possible customers"

Lumpy_Cry_2694

I’ll let you know if I receive the aligners on Saturday! Hopefully they didn’t just ship me a bag of sand

Same-Bar-5386

Yeah cause the orthodontist is just a walk-in appointment, and you walk out with new retainers same day... It says on Dr. Direct website that shipping can take a few weeks.

tacomaniac84

I just received the text and am going to risk it and see what happens. Just submitted the order - they use the Shop commerce platform and process the card transaction using Square....seems sketchy for a real medical operation. We will see...

Curious-Feedback-203

tacomaniac84

Oh well, the retainers came quickly and were perfect. I'll ride the train with them as long as I can.

Wariwariwap

I paid for the full treatment back in december 2023 and already got all my retainers. Is it legal for them to sell our info like that? When they declared for bankruptcy, they stopped honoring the lifetime support. How come they are still passing our dental info around?

Unknownize

Actually you may be on to some HIPPA violation since no one ever consented for their private medical records to be shared with another company.

arroyor

I want to update this by saying I went ahead and ordered using my SDC email and received same quality retainers from this place. Took about a week and a half, and not disappointed.

Curious-Feedback-203

THEY ARE A SMILE DIRECT CLUB REBRAND SPINOFF OWNED BY CAMELOT VENTURE GROUP AND THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S THEM...!!!

OrganicNirnroot

relax

Ecstatic-Return-9778

Aren’t these the same people who ran smiledirectclub and shut it down screwing all of their customers and employees? I wouldn’t give them a dime.

Odd_Negotiation_931

I got their text April 29, 2024. I had SDC. DDR is a real business, but probably a shady one. SDC was TERRIBLE. I can't imagine the same parent company spinning up a new, identical company that services its customers BETTER suddenly... I strongly suspect this is a last ditch effort cash grab. If DDR and SDC are owned by the same parent company, why doesn't DDR honor the SDC lifetime warranty?

Unknownize

Because they know they already have thousands of customers who'll pay 300 a year for retainers. They don't need to offer lifetime anything. it's guaranteed to be a spinoff by the same board of directors from SDC. I just want my damn retainers if USPS will stop losing it.

brittanyelle

I ordered my retainers with my credit card for protection. I just received my order today and it fits snugly. SDC rejected my order for retainers last year because I hadn’t been “diligently changing out my retainers every 3 months” and wanted me to schedule another impression smear which required me to drive far out of my residence. Them going bankrupt was actually the best thing that happened to me because these retainers were so much easier to get and I can just order the bottom ones (I didnt like the top ones and only my bottom teeth needed realigning).

Curious-Feedback-203

THEY ARE A SMILE DIRECT CLUB REBRAND SPINOFF OWNED BY CAMELOT VENTURE GROUP AND THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S THEM...!!!

Wakeforest424

I recently went to my local orthodontist and ordered retainers (former SDC member) and they are much higher quality. Yesterday I received a text from Dr Direct retainers but I will not support them after the SDC scam

RecordingPretty2577

Was it much more expensive than SDC?

Wakeforest424

It was a little more expensive upfront but the quality is so much better!

tacomaniac84

Update: I received my retainers from Dr Direct today and they're exactly the same material and fit as Smile Direct Club. Seems to be legitimate, thankfully.

Same-Bar-5386

Agreed! Arrived in less than 2 weeks after my order, fit snugly and I think they're better quality than the older pair I had.

Same-Bar-5386

Thanks for spamming this entire thread with the same comment 100 times.. I think everyone here gets it..

Same-Bar-5386

Found a coupon code, May24, that saved me $24. I figured I'd give it a shot so I placed the order today, we'll see what happens.

Early-Neck-5205

Thanks for sharing the code. I've been meaning to order a pair and the 24 off helped. Ordered it with my Capital X card that has great protections so if they are scammers I should be fine.

Same-Bar-5386

Glad it helped! I received mine in about 10 days, they fit well and quality is good. Hope you have no issues!

WooHoo2You

\^\^\^Real MVP right here!\^\^\^

hannbann5678

FYI - I just used June24 (assumed it would work off your comment) and it worked - hope that helps someone else.

LokiPoOreo

I ordered as well let’s see what happens

Laurel0101

any promo (invite friend) to share?

Lumpy_Cry_2694

Any updates? Mine have said ready to ship since this past Thursday 🤦‍♀️

BereaStudios

I'm about to take the plunge, I need a set of retainers soon, I can feel them wearing down a bit. I'll update with the result. Once I have them. Ordering now. UPDATED ON 5/28/24 The retainers showed up as promised. They fit tight as expected since the old set was very worn down. Happy to keep my fangs straight.

BereaStudios

That is okay, I just do not want my teeth to start shifting again. I just got a notice that my retainers shipped. They provided a tracking number with USPS.

Lumpy_Cry_2694

So, I have a tracking number that says they will be here by this upcoming Saturday. Ordered last Monday. “Ready to ship” last Thursday. They sat “ready to ship” from last Thursday to yesterday, so I came to the conclusion that it was a scam. As I’m sure many are aware, there is a common scam where the scammer uses part of your payment for the shipping label (utilizing the cheapest shipping method) and keeps the other portion, never sending the item. Gives them time to lie and say things like “USPS lost them” or “mailing system is delayed”. I emailed them, yesterday, saying that if I don’t see the retainers physically shipped within the next two days, I am reporting the company to BBB and disputing the transaction. “In transit” last night lol. Not a scam, but they don’t arrive the quickest and you may have to hassle the company to send them.

goku0020

I got a message from them today and wanted to do some research which is how I got here. I want to do it because they hooked us in with this forever model of needing to buy retainers and the treatment did work, and SDC did send me readjustments whenever my teeth moved but I think I’ll try it to see, I lost my retainers right before they went under so my teeth moved a bit back but I have the old retainers that I went back to. I’m gonna do it, I’ll update you all on what I find.

UPDATE*** I ordered my retainers and they came in 2 weeks. They look and feel like the ones from SDC. Not a scam! They went with my scans and they fit perfectly.

BereaStudios

I think I ordered like 2 weeks ago. I just got a notice that my retainers shipped. They were able to locate my previous retainer file with my email address. They provided a tracking number with USPS.

Earthboundbb

I finished my smile direct treatment plan in February but the company shut down before I could order retainers. I was hesitant to order from Dr direct but it was worth a shot. My old retainers had stretched from using for so long so I was happy when these arrived. They fit tightly and shifted a tooth that had moved, into the correct alignment. My teeth look more straight and I now have clean/fresh retainers. My only complaint is that the bottom plastic cut into the inside of my mouth. I trimmed it down with scissors and no problem now. Worth it for me. maybe it is shady that they sold our info but I wanted straight teeth and now I have them, I’d like to keep them.

im_justjess_

JUNE24 works for this month, I just used it today and it took 24$ off!

Dilicado3

So many paranoid folks here. If you’re not sure order with your cc. You’re protected. Better than losing your teeth because your retainer is 40 years old. I just ordered… let’s see

KayBaby5855

Going to place an order - anyone want me to use their referral link so we can both save $?

Ok_Sun7428

So is Dr Direct just a retainer thing not aligners? I was waiting for my refinement aligners to ship right before SDC closed down.. they never arrived

fanito

This is my problem with them and what is really sus about it: 1) Before my doctor told me about sending me my clinical history (aka the 3d models) this company already have them. Technically is a violation on HIPAA to share your medical information (including this) with unauthorized parties, I DID NOT consent, neither did you. This is NOT a coincidence that this company "already" had them 2) their WEBSITE according to whois is: * Name: [DRDIRECTRETAINERS.COM](http://DRDIRECTRETAINERS.COM) * Registry Domain ID: 2859628694\_DOMAIN\_COM-VRSN * Domain Status:[clientDeleteProhibited](https://icann.org/epp#clientDeleteProhibited)[clientRenewProhibited](https://icann.org/epp#clientRenewProhibited)[clientTransferProhibited](https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited)[clientUpdateProhibited](https://icann.org/epp#clientUpdateProhibited) * Nameservers:NS39.DOMAINCONTROL.COMNS40.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Dates * Registry Expiration: 2025-02-28 18:54:43 UTC * Updated: 2024-02-29 18:54:43 UTC * Created: 2024-02-29 18:54:43 UTC just check the CREATED date.... HELLO?!?!?!??!!?!?!? 3) they keep discounting the retainers in a similar manner they did with SDC. Now, maybe they used to work with SDC, maybe they are legit and new, someone has to start somewhere but hey, too many red flags and I am too burned out by SDC that I can't trust anyone, let alone these fools, enough with the nonsense
