So I tried this once in my garage. Another *really* good reason to not do this, you will have a thick layer of tar on your car windows you'll need to clean off and it does not come off easy.

This looks like it's in a garage, or atleast somewhere that can be vented if needed. A CO detector would make this a moot point. Doesn't look like it's within living quarters.

Doesn't matter if it's attached. I knew a guy who ran a generator in his garage and the CO got high enough it put his wife in the hospital and killed him. Crazy that he was that clueless, I know. But unless this dude has his garage door open this is a bad idea. A generator will likely put out way more CO than a smoker, of course but still.... Edit: "Knew" a guy

Carpet cleaners in texas nearly did that in my mother in laws place. The CO alarms were connected to fire dept. luckily

In Canada we are told that even if the garage door is open it’s not enough to prevent the CO problem.

Make sense. I know for a generator it is supposed to be several feet from any structure and should never be used in a garage even with the door open. Not sure what a smoker recommends. I'd never consider running it in a garage anyway so I've never even looked. Googled Generator safety: "NEVER operate your generator indoors (including in your garage or basements), even if you have windows and/or doors open for ventilation."

I was working on my old truck in my open and ventilated garage. But enough exhaust leaked around the door into the house that it set off the CO detector in my dining room, about 18' from the door. And the garage door was full open. Had to kill the truck and ventilate the house for 30 minutes to shut the alarm up. In some areas air handlers are located in garages. If that's the case this is an even worse idea, as CO could be taken in by the handler via any chassis or duct leaks and distributed all throughout the house.

They work well in the cold, get a welding blanket for insulation or the one made by your manufacturer. They’ll use more fuel but run well.

What I do, is I set up in the garage & crack a window or roll up the garage door a foot or so, if I have an attached garage. Or if I have a detached garage I’ll set up about 5 feet outside the back door. If you have a sliding door that opens onto a deck/patio that’s ideal. Then every couple of hours I can dash out, do what I need to do, and dash back in. Depending on wind speed /direction it can be pretty ok because the fire’s hot & the house can block a lot of the wind. You do have to worry about losing temperature a lot more the colder it gets, especially towards the edges, and sometimes you’ll get a lot of condensation on the inside of the lid. Because of the exhaust fan you probably won’t die with your setup, which has advantages for comfort. But I would still crack a window or something, and a CO detector isn’t a bad idea just in case.

For all the reasons mentioned mentioned previously, Please please please don’t do this.

Pro tip. Remove the ducting to warm your house at the same time.
