dfla01

I imagine the chanting at the end pissed him off

GameplayerStu

I knew he was gonna be pissed about that. All in the build up to the match he was saying that he didn't care about Arsenal, Spurs shouldn't be focused on Arsenal, and questioning if they're really fans if they wanted Spurs to lose. Then the Spurs fans chant about Arsenal lmao

lewiitom

Literally everyone saw this coming though haha

ChickenGamer199

It's probably the most heated rivalry in the Premier League, so it is understandable. Ange was right about one thing though, not all Spurs fans were hoping for a loss. I certainly wasn't. And I was disappointed when we gave away the stupid penalty. Overall, I'm relatively proud of the performance. Disappointed by the fans, but not exactly surprised. If the roles were reversed, I have little doubt that Arsenal fans would have done the same. That doesn't justify it, but it does illustrate the contempt we have for one another.

WakeUpMareeple

Very reasonable comment.

[deleted]

Tbh the fans behaviour proves it's not a rivalry, that's why he's pissed off You want to rival arsenal, you beat teams like man city at home What you have is a derby

ChickenGamer199

Reasonable take, but success isn't what defines a rivalry.

leebrother

You say this but in recent times Spurs were a better team but couldn’t banter Arsenal. Arsenal were finishing 8th and managed success. Spurs couldn’t be successful and are bantered for the Audi cup. Their club needs success to truly stop their rival taking the piss around spursy, history of Tottenham, Audi cup memes, sacking the serial winner before a final as they don’t do winning in finals etc etc. it’s why I said way back Ange made a huge mistake playing a weak team against Fulham in the league cup - they need to actually win a trophy to stop the banter of being spursy. Arsenal played United the weekend - the reaction of the fans is very different. United want to be successful to beat the noisy neighbours and that was clear.

anp1997

Since when is it the most heated rivalry? Liverpool - United rivalry is much bigger and more heated. I think most would agree with that

Hieillua

It says it all about the mentality of that club when they would rather lose... literal loser mentality.

Pedro95

Meh, it seemed to me more like "we've lost and there's nothing we can do about that - we may as well mock Arsenal about it"

throwfaraway898989

They didn’t really chant at all til after the first goal, says everything

johnnygrant

Was at the stadium. The first chants at the opening whistle were about Arsenal.

Clarkster7425

the entire stadium was silent until it was guaranteed theyd lost at 2-0 in the 90th minute

CosaSara

it says more about outsiders not understanding the rivalry. don't blame postecoglou though, it literally is his job to attempt to win every single match so ofc he wouldn't be happy with the chants.

wheeno

He understands rivalry. He just doesn't like that its obviously not a rivalry between two sides on an equal level. He wants his club to be involved in competition with the rival not wanting to lose so that there's some kind of moral victory in the better rival failing to win.

Debaser1984

It tells you a lot about who lives in and around the fans of their biggest rivals and has to put up with their shite. This is what overseas fans will never understand properly.

aphromagic

Not a fan of either of these clubs, but I totally understand the rivalry aspect. I'm a fan of UF in the states, and if for some weird, niche reason a Florida loss (when we don't really have anything on the line) lead to Georgia missing out on the playoff or a bowl game or some shit, I wouldn't necessarily pull for Florida to lose, but if they did I'd laugh my ass off at Georgia. Rivalries are petty for reason, and that reason is hate.

[deleted]

You must surely know that Georgia's biggest rival is the Athens PD traffic enforcement division, no?

DaBestNameEver0

Do you think sports rivalries just don’t exist in other parts of the world?

Lance_the_Lamp

The Anglo mind can simply not perceive the outside world

Prune_Super

what was being chanted?

DejisHairline

Something mocking Arsenal instead of being upset about the loss

epicmarc

It's not that they weren't upset, you don't boo your team after they put in so much effort, it's more about the caring about Arsenal instead of the shift they just put in against the league leaders

epicmarc

Are you watching Arsenal

SirBarkington

Arsenal are you watching

kaaskugg

You are watching Arsenal

bitbitter

watching Arsenal are you

SenorButtmunch

Fans are always gonna taunt their rivals, especially when it’s the only positive in a defeat. The fans wanting to prevent Arsenal winning the league is not anything he should worry about. If the players were thinking like that it’s a whole other thing. But the fans have a different type of investment into the team, their priorities should not affect the players or the performance.

Bluepaynxex

Yeah, if he’s pissed at that, then he’s going to be pissed during his entire tenure at Spurs. Even if they somehow win something, their hate for Arsenal will always be at the forefront and vice versa.

whadefeck

I mean, he managed Celtic, whose rivalry with Rangers has far more hatred and consequences than Spurs and Arsenal, so I think he understands how rivalries work. I think there's sort of a divide between fans and the players/managers when it comes to this stuff. Managers and players are so competitive in a way that I don't think normal fans can comprehend

spicynirvana38

With the way that managers and players are cycled around short term, they really have no reason to be invested in the deeper traditions of the club they manage in the same way the fans have to.

BadLuckBarry

Celtic were winning tho

CNF1G

Eh, I think there’s a balance. He’s managed teams with fierce rivals before (us) and still you focus on yourself more than anything. He’s absolutely right that it’s a wee bit of a small time mentality. Need to change that if they actually want to compete for trophies.

cmc360

He's right to say that but also the fans are right too. A manager with no ties to the club that'll realistically be there a few years. You don't get what if would be like for those fans to hand arsenal the title. Also they've supported during the game and it's a little joke at the end.

ScreamsPerpetual

I mean if your job is to get rid of the "Spursy" idea, you HAVE to be fuming that enjoyment from Arsenal's suffering is seemingly greater than not winning and fighting for Champions League.  I totally get the fans- but if you want the team to start thinking like winners you have to broadcast a more winning mentality as the manager.

veed_vacker

we are mid table since our first ten. This was a our first good first half in 2024. He should have started being mad months ago.

gulaabjaman

As it should. Such a loser’s mentality that, good on Ange for calling it out

bluegeronimo

If this exact situation happened between teams in the Icelandic premier league or some shit all the comments here would be "epic shithousery xD" and "game's back"

inspired_corn

It’s really not, it’s understandable that fans would care more about their rivals not winning the league than they would about (maybe) getting top 4. If the tables were turned there would be masses of Arsenal fans doing the same. Football fans aren’t logical

predator9494

So, another Spurs manager is angry about mentality.

gulaabjaman

Truly football heritage

TheRalphExpress

“I can fix him” but it’s a football club

First_time_farmer1

When the clubs whole motto is " to exist and be profitable".. then there's no point in being a manager there. You know who would do well there? Brendan Rodgers. Tremendous human being. But seriously.

No-Clue1153

It's in their history, their present and their future.

pedrorq

Why would Mourinho do this?

GrogRhodes

That instantly what I thought of.

kakashixgojo2020

You mean why would Conte do this

kratos61

It's the same stuff Conte complained about and Spurs fans raged at him for it. There's a very good reason why that club never wins anything.

Ricechairsandbeans

conte was doing it because he'd completely given up and was clearly on the way out

FarrisAT

Conte complained about it end of first season and midway through second. He only threw us under the bus after the players collectively self-destructed over an apocalyptic three week period.

jasondozell3

it's not the same at all. Conte was talking about the owners short-changing things

Clarkster7425

lets give ange time, plenty of chances (and reasons) for him to do that

odious_as_fuck

We weren’t mad at conte because we thought he was wrong. We were mad at him because he blamed anyone but himself while our team had no long term direction.

Zippy129

Long term direction isn’t the manager’s job though. He wasn’t given the tools to succeed although he could’ve definitely handled his frustrations better.

odious_as_fuck

Yeah a lot of blame should be also placed on upper management, that’s no secret

Anhowa123

yeh I hate you lot, but this is exactly how it was... Conte may have been right about elements, but he was saying it at a time and in a way to deflect from himself and not take accountability I'd have been fuming if that had been my manager too. I fucking hate you lot, but you're also generally one of the more reasonable fan bases around stuff like this and expectations etc imo - people rag on spurs for the stupidest shit.

DaGetz

This comment reads like I’m not gay but…

AmulyaG

Now kiss

[deleted]

Fans don't have that much power lol.

[deleted]

He went straight to the tunnel after shaking hands with Pep and De Bruyne I think, never saw him do that. Feel bad for him

goonSquad15

I mean why thank the fans, they were cheering for city

pauloh1998

Poor fellas, their biggest achievement is stopping Arsenal from winning the title 🥺🤏

PM_Me_PM_Dawn_Pics

And stopping them by losing a game. Even worse when we had a shit season and our best achievement was stopping Tottenham by drawing against them

Flobarooner

Not only that but after the NLD was only a few weeks ago, they could've stopped us directly there and actually had something to brag about but they couldn't do that They couldn't stop us by beating us so they decided to celebrate losing to our rivals instead. Such a fucking loser club with loser mentality. Losing is literally the only thing they're any good at Excited for all the loser spuds to crawl out and show their loser mentality in the replies too

notsurewhattothink4

They will always be in Arsenals shadow

Every_Pass_226

It's their best start btw

goodyear_1678

The man has won everywhere he has gone. He realized he's surrounded by losers, that's a damning realization.

[deleted]

The team has not been playing well tho, and that's on him too. I still think he's a great manager and should be given time, a 5th place finish in a rebuild year is pretty damn good, but c'mon, Tottenham were awful for months now.

SofaKingI

The team keeps doing amateurish mistakes pro players shouldn't do. It's always the guy that tries to change a lazy environment that's the first to get blamed.

[deleted]

No, they all should be blamed, Ange shouldn't get a pass, and i'm sure he knows they haven't been good

Blue_winged_yoshi

What’s the point in staying to applaud fans who are only there to cheer you lose?

Ankoku_Sein

"BBC has provided additional insights as Ange has applied for a special license to own and operate a firearm inside the stadium."

Zaku_pilot_292

Why bother getting a license, Maranakis surely could help him out

TheLankySoldier

I fully understand him. Anyone in his position would

SeattleGunner

I can’t imagine doing the poznan and singing “Are you watching Arsenal?” is what Ange wants from his club lol.

Ferdinandingo

were they really doing the poznan? 😂

BTECGolfManagement

Hahaha aye absolutely unreal craic

inspired_corn

Yeah it was actually really fucking funny

Sea-Education9562

Bit tinpot tho

PossessionPopular182

Nah that's funny as fuck lol

Turavis

Yeah, saw some lads in our shirts smiling and doing the Poznań after Haaland’s second which I must admit was hilarious

TheGoldenPineapples

Absolutely tinpot but also objectively pretty funny.

MarvellousG

That is hilarious, and I would 1000% be doing the same if we lost to deny United a league. Fair play, the most I’ve liked spurs fans is them doing this

EliToon

People acting like this uniquely Spurs and a lot of Aresnal fans looking down on them thinking they're above the rivalry. Anfield cheered in 1995 when Shearer scored for Blackburn because the title wouldn't be going to Old Trafford.

scewbert

I'd absolutely agree with you but Liverpool had nothing on the line in that game. Tottenham still had CL to play for and had their fans doing the Poznan and singing singing about Arsenal. Everywhere Ange has gone he's been a winner. I guarantee he's never seen anything like this from fans of a club he's managed. However, this is the history of the Tottenham.

itsmetsunnyd

> Tottenham still had CL to play for Lmfao no we didn't. If we had CL to play for we would have shown up for the previous couple of months.

AustereSpartan

Did they really do the Poznan when losing out on UCL football?

V-0-V

In 5 years Tottenham wont care they missed out on UCL. They absolutely would care if from this point on they were reminded FOREVER that they handed their biggest rivals the league.

watercuboid

Someone who actually gets it

V-0-V

I still love to bring up the Battle of the Bridge, the fact we got to kill of your title hopes is a major point of pride. I cant imagine the noise Arsenal fans would make if you won them the league.,

watercuboid

Exactly. Literally would be spammed so much by Arsenal mates with endless memes about how we won them the title, and they’d sing about it for decades

Skhan93

Especially because you could have won them the league, and then still missed out on top 4 over the weekend Edit: thanks for the Reddit card message lol

wheresmyspacebar2

It's been 20 years since Arsenal won the league and they still bring up Judas and shit. They sing about it every single time we face them. I'm fine with this loss. I didn't actively want to lose but I'm not going to be mad about it and if I'd been in the stadium (fuck off paying £85 on a Tuesday night) and down 2-0, you better believe I'm going to be in full voice, not celebrating the loss but celebrating the players who at least looked like they gave a shit and tried to get the win. They deserve to be cheered on after a very good season. Ange didn't care about us chanting and trying to cheer the team on when we lost 4-0 to Newcastle did he? Maybe he needs to focus on the players and the clubs, figure out why we dropped so many points in the last 2 months. Because THAT is the issue, not the fucking silver lining the fans are trying to find because we've watched 2 months of shit.

MarvellousG

This is mindblowing to me how few people on reddit are getting it, football and supporting a team is basically all about tribalism and schadenfreude. ‘No you must want to win every game as a true fan!!’ Fucking nerds on Reddit

TheRalphExpress

thing going over most people’s heads too is that like… the chanting doesn’t mean they’re happy to be losing. But they are losing so might as well have a bit of fun with it

floorscentadolescent

You have to keep in mind a large majority on here are American gooners who started supporting Arsenal because its first alphabetically on fifa

TheUselessKnight

Don’t forget the gun on the badge.

kleptopaul

Thank you. Jesus Christ the moralists here.

domalino

Only like 5 of them in the shot I saw.

veed_vacker

we lost out on cl by losing 4-0 to newcastle, 3-0 to fulham, 2-1 to wolverhamptom, 2-2 to everton. We lost out on CL because we have been soft on corners, from the very beginning. Losing 2-0 to the best side in the world in a rebuilding year is not really the problem.

Chesey_

Celebrating not making champions league unequivocally sums up Tottenham as a club

Minute_Leave8503

2 years after celebrating qualifying like it was the World Cup

raisinbreadandtea

Pretty sure they lost out on CL football when they fucked it against Newcastle and Villa came back in yesterday’s game. Today was as close to a dead rubber as you can possibly get.

DiscoWasp

Needing Villa to lose one game away at Palace is absolutely nowhere near dead rubber, especially considering the form both those teams are in

maidentaiwan

What? Palace are basically the form team in the league right now and Villa play them away. Spurs play one of the worst teams in prem history. This was nothing close to a dead rubber.

spiritofbuck

Stick with Postecoglou. He’s a smart man.

Jaded_Collection_716

Does Postecoglou want to stick with spurs?

spiritofbuck

I’ll ask him and get back to you.

RyVsWorld

Any word yet?

spiritofbuck

“Something something mate”

celtic1888

´Forget about it Ange, it´s Tottenham-

ExactLetterhead9165

Same here, mate. My brief stint of Spurs Fandom has been hugely disappointing.

ReverendY

Don’t know how these guys do it every week. What an exhausting ordeal.

Silverburst8

You become numb to it eventually

Rocamadeur

You start to celebrate a loss and missing cl football, what a sight.

WalkingCloud

The true Spurs experience; faint hope, no expectation, followed by disappointment.

TurboThot69

never again , can't go back

kissoflife

A hip replacement is less painful than being a (temporary) Tottenham supporter.

Newme91

I expected shit but surprised by quite how shit they are

Jen_Rey

A lot of you are missing the point. He says both inside and outside the club. I'm guessing people inside the club were acting as spurs fans(they are fans, it's understandable) were, realistically they should care about what's best for their club. Edu spoke something similar when he rejoined Arsenal, he said he doesn't recognise the club, it's become stale and people inside the club are happy with top4. But he knew its not enough and it shouldn't be for a club like Arsenal. Btw Ange isn't the first to spoke about this in Tottenham, I'm guessing it's everyone needs mentality change from owner to directors, boardmembers or what have you.

reza_f

I mean for years Spurs fans bragging point has been their bald owner stubbornness in negotiations (without any clear vision of the club future project)

Puzzleheaded_Pound31

God love him because Ange has never wavered on speaking up when he wants to but this could backfire like Conte if he’s not careful

zmkpr0

Seems like the most dangerous thing for a Spurs manager is wanting to win stuff.

_deep_blue_

They fired Mourinho before a cup final because he might have actually won it

exiadf19

Spurs Management " Wait, we are on final and with mou we got chance to win it??? kick him out from our club right now!"

CraterofNeedles

What's funny is that's unironically the argument a lot of them make for why firing Mourinho was correct i.e. "if he'd had won the final we'd have been stuck with him"

yoloqueuesf

Honestly, the fuck were they thinking there lmao

naijaboiler

I have said it before. Spurs are allergic to winning.

Stephan1303103

If he's not careful then what? They're going to fire him ? Boo hoo, he deserves better. Remember they fired Mourinho one week before a final because they didn't want to pay him anything IF he won. That's the mentality of this club.

eClipseLJ

Understandable, man just wants to win as he should. Been talking about sweeping through the roster and briefs about planning the summer window with CL money.

willydog_ohman

People in here forgetting 2 things can be true. Yes, Spurs have been shite for a while now and Ange has a lot of that burden to shoulder. But also, to me, he's entirely right in concluding how insane it is that you would take losing out on CL so lightly for the sake of spiting your rival

taylorstillsays

Do you understand what spurs fans would have to deal with if they won tonight and Arsenal lifted the trophy on Sunday? Its so much more than wanting to spite your rival

OscarMyk

It will be even funnier if Arsenal still lift the trophy on Sunday, Spurs' failure will be complete.

Doubleyoujay

if that happens i will run naked onto the pitch during the sheffield vs spurs game with "lads its spurs" tattooed across my bum

Mick4Audi

If Man City can’t beat West Ham at home they’re the ones who failed here

karlkmanpilkboids

They would go from a laughing stock to…. More of a laughing stock?

Gerards_died_of_flu

It makes sense from his perspective to come out and say this but I imagine he does actually understand the fans' side of it as well. He's not that out of touch

lrzbca

Precisely, Spurs fans are celebrating their rival’s title chances disappear doesn’t mean they’re happy about losing. When you know the result is not going your way then might as well banter your rival.

bashar_al_assad

Plus today might have made it official but we *really* lost the Champions League when we shit the bed in almost every game after beating Villa in early March, especially losing four in a row to Newcastle, Arsenal, you guys, and Liverpool, and no Spurs fans were celebrating then.

starry_cobra

Being on an awful run with very little to cheer for only to be told were not real fans for wanting to laugh at our hated rival that's even more miserable than us

Fun-Percentage-8394

Look at you two reasonable fuckers down here. According to most people in this thread I should have given my left testicle to watch my team gift the club I hate the most the title.

V-0-V

A lot of people on this subreddit aren't from footballing countries and dont actually understand the football rivalries, that it gets passed down through generations that X is the enemy and always will be. Its easy to be cordial with rivals when there are no stakes attached.

hasse89

Spurs fans responding with: ‘You've a lot to learn about this town, sweetie’

CaptainGo

Mans going for a Conte moment

Ohtimbar

I understand rivarly but watching City celebrate their win and „almost-title” at our stadium isn’t a great scene. Arsenal played extremely well and none can say they are bottlers. With title at Emirates or at Etihad, losing to 5 proper rivals in recent weeks and feeling the quality gap between those who are above is disproportionately bigger pain than Arsenal winning PL, which would be a very sharp knife put into already broken heart.

R3tardedmonkey

The funniest ending now would be west ham beating city and arsenal winning the title

Brilliant_Ad_879

tbh even a draw'd be enough but that ain't happening.

blazeofgloreee

I have a feeling maybe even someone from the club management told him that not winning this one might be better. The way he talks about foundations of the club, etc. edit: Lol at the Spurs fan who alerted the suicide watch notice. Don't project your troubles on me please. I have more to live for than a football club who are world renowned for utter failure

wheeno

I think youre right. In and out of the club like he says. He's been very blunt about this in every interview in the buildup to this and there's probably at least pr people at tottenham who have been asking him to tone it down a bit because their fans have been feeling very offended at how blunt he's been. Seen a lot say he's been patronizing and he's antagonizing fans.

Orsenfelt

100% my take too. He's not an idiot he knows fans will think what they think. He's this angry because he's realised there are club *staff* who wanted to lose. The guy looks like a big cuddly teddy bear but he's consitantly talked about as being in the mould of 'old school' managers. He's not buddybuddy with players, he doesn't have 'his' staff he takes from job to job. Christ the *first* thing he ever did as a manager was sack his still playing, best mate captain of the club.

Objective_Ask_9199

there seems to be a similar running theme with jose and conte too.... e: damn got hit with the hotline notification. truth hurts i guess

Justametalwaterbotle

That's exactly the fragile fans Big Ange called out. Talk your shit, you're absolutely right. This club got called out years ago by both those managers (just at different times). What would those managers know about winning to Tottenham fans? The fans that sing and dance for the world to watch as their team loses. They hate Arsenal more than they love their club. It was on full display today. Disgraceful Edit: lmfao I got hit with it too. Keep sending em. You love to lose, just admit it. Enjoy losing in Europa. You'll probably fire Big Ange before the final like you did Mourinho.

Screye

Mourinho proven right once again.

wheeno

I think an important point that most people are missing is that he says inside the club as well. Meaning it's not just fans.

Themnor

It’s a cliche but the issue with Tottenham is they just don’t seem to hate losing. It’s easy to love winning, but it’s different to just *hate* losing. There’s definitely a level of toxicity that can come from that, but it’s the biggest difference I’ve seen from other big 6 clubs and Tottenham (or really other big 6 clubs and most of the league atm).

Storky92

I don't think that's true or fair. We fucking hate losing but the club got us into a position where in this specific circumstance we didn't. If you go back over the season the losses to Wolves (x2), Fulham, Newcastle, Chelsea (x2) etc had us all fuming.

Galgenfrist

^^^^^^^^maaaaaaaaate

Sherringdom

He can be as pissed off as he wants, but we’ve had countless opportunities to show some fight for top four before today. We were pathetic against Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham, and many others. That was where we lost our opportunity. Today with everything riding on it was always going to divide fans and even then, the fans were fairly supportive all match, just a bit quiet.

areyouhungryforapple

Big clubs want to win every game and fight for every possible avenue for success. Spurs have shown historically and in recent times that they just have the mentality and outlook of something more akin to a mid-table team. Years of having an overperforming Kane have given them a weird sense of belonging among actual big clubs in England.

Flabby-Nonsense

I mean fair fucks. His team had a decent chance of getting UCL if they beat City tonight, just needed to beat Sheffield utd and for an in-form Crystal Palace to beat Villa. Not the most likely outcome but not bad odds all the same. Yet despite that, Spurs fans would have you believe that the UCL was already written off for them even though it absolutely wasn’t. The fans were more interested in seeing Arsenal lose than see their club succeed which, respectfully, is not the attitude you want if you’re a manager who wants the squad to have a winning mentality. I understand rivalry is important and adds flavour to the sport, and if this were a meaningless game for Spurs I’d understand it - but this was far from meaningless for Spurs. What I got out of the last few days is that *some* spurs fans have been so starved of success that they actually define themselves more out of opposition to their rivals than in ambition for their own club. I cannot imagine being in a stadium and actually cheering against my own club, what kind of support is that? No wonder he’s mad. Edit: respect to whoever reported me as a suicide risk to the Reddit admins 😂😂

zecira

>The fans were more interested in seeing Arsenal lose than see their club succeed which, respectfully, is not the attitude you want if you’re a manager who wants the squad to have a winning mentality. This is where I am at, honestly. To me, wanting your rival to lose more than you want you guys to succeed is like... mid tier mentality. I'm aware this opinion is controversial among many fans, but I'd much rather root for my team to succeed no matter what. Makes me think of that period of Serie A history when Roma and Lazio both sucked so fucking bad that they never had any hope to get to Europe and the only thing that gave them bragging rights was winning the derby / finishing the season with more points than the other team even if you ended the season in tenth place, and fair play to people who find joy in that, but I care more about the bigger picture. Everyone who's like "yes but if Arsenal won the title they'll be insufferable for years" — Arsenal are in good enough form that they might win the title next year anyway. They're a lot closer to winning a title than Spurs are. Champions League money could have gone some way in bridging that gap.

xanthias91

Never been a big fan of Ange, but he’s spot on. Romero chuckling with Guardiola? Fans doing the Poznan and chanting about Arsenal? This gives the impression to any footballer that you must be a fucking loser for even thinking of playing for Tottenham.

Minute_Leave8503

He was fuming before and after the game and all I see if their fans defending it saying it doesn’t affect performance LOL

SDLRob

The inference here is that he believes some of the players threw the game, that Arsenal losing the title was more important to some of them than them getting Champions League. Be interesting to see who gets sold this summer now

theironsalmon

Later in the interview he says that the events of the last 48 hours don’t influence his summer plans. My guess is cause it was Cuti and Son LMAO

Gargamir77

Don't know if that makes things any better for you if two of the biggest leaders have that kind of mentality tbh.

Dependent_Air2948

Plenty of Spurs fans went from thinking they won the league in October to celebrating missing out on CL football because Arsenal *might* not win the league. Obsessing over a rival to that extent is small time, mid table club mentality. This shouldn't be surprising because that's mostly what Spurs have been, but it has to be challenged and he's right to do so.

coyscoys

10-15 years from now. Ange will be gone, the players will be gone & a whole lot of staff will be as well. Leaving us fans hearing Arsenal singing about us giving them the title for 50 years… Yeah fuck it, I feel relieved after today even though I didin’t celebrate the goals. Weird feeling overall.

Oasis1701

You make too much sense, What are you doing here

L0laccio

I really respect Ange tbf

No-Student-9678

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

hnoidea

This guy has been based for pretty much ever since he arrived on the scene

goodyear_1678

Every winner that has managed Tottenham has said the same thing about them. And they've all been fired.

Weird-Lime-9542

Chiellini summarised Tottenham 5 years ago, nothing will ever change

TheAmazingKoki

This is a problem in the entirety of English football. Sometimes it even feels like the entire motivation for winning is getting to laugh at your rivals and the entire motivation for avoiding losing is not wanting to get laughed at.  The amount of begrudging is insane. Honestly insane that this basic fucking rule still hasn't landed there: if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you're involved in the dishing out then don't be such a bitch when the tables are turned. I know that the jokes can be really nasty and persistent. But fucking speak up then if you really feel that way. The first step is making sure that you're not a hypocrite when you do that.

nokiabrickphone1998

Something something the history of the something

derrhn

I would love a manager at my team that had this mentality. I can see both sides to the issue re celebrating Arsenal not winning the title, but you want a man who’s absolutely mad about winning in charge.

I wish we had a combo Arsenal and Spurs All Or Nothing this season. Actually all of the big teams (except for City because I don't want to watch a bunch of bionics go back into the dressing room and plug into their chargers) would've been great AoNs this season. Combo All or Nothings from here on out: Arse; Spurs; Yannited; Chels edition. Endless entertainment. Add Newcastle and Villa into that in a few years when there's more drama

AzracTheFirst

Spurs fans don't realize this will stay as stigma for years to come. They will get absolutely shit and banter for this loser approach and fragile mentality, it will follow them down to every defeat from now on. They dag their own grave yesterday.

Consistent_Truth6633

Spurs fans are a joke.

Mate, it's Tottenham

angepostecoglouale

Hes getting slated on twitter for saying this..... spurs fans have the best manager for their needs for decades and they are gonna throw him out due to being a born winner.

TheGoldenPineapples

Third manager in a row to call out the weak-minded mentality at Tottenham and their fans are celebrating maybe preventing Arsenal from winning the league like they won it themselves.

E_The_Menace

This thread might be the finest representation of short sightedness. Spurs fans (and other clubs) proclaiming it's more desirable to deny a rival a title as opposed to qualifying for the CL, so you can budget for a rebuild, gain more experience, and deny other top 8 rivals the same. Next season you could have a rejuvenated United, a more focused Chelsea, a steady Newcastle, and a reinforced solid team of Villa all competing for 3rd/4th. The absolute lack of ambition is staggering. You want to be at the level of Arsenal, not adrift and not in the conversation.

Goonerlouie

To be fair people say the league will be harder every year but lately you just replace 1 or 2 of the big 6 with an over performing mid table team. It’s been like that for at least 5,6 years now

scewbert

I expected literally nothing from Spurs in this game and then saw their players put up a very good show, so credit where it's due to them. They put up a good fight. That said fans cheering for their team to lose when they're supposed to be going for top 4 is so pathetic it's laughable. Liverpool fans cheering for Blackburn in 95? Understandable, because they had nothing on the line. Being more concerned about your rivals than **your own team's material advancement**!? That's absolutely small fry. You're putting Arsenal on WAAAAAAY too much of a pedestal. Tottenham fans can never again complain about people saying they have a small club mentality. They simply do. I'm not surprised Ange is pissed off. He came to win things. Spurs fans meanwhile are more concerned about what Arsenal are doing.

Shoddy-Reach9232

He's finally realizing what Mourhino and Conte learned by the end of their tenures. Spurs are a team with weak mentality which is why they will never win anything. And everytime they have a good start of the season they go back to their old ways and end up mid. Fans, club, players they all have this mentality of being mediocre.

staybysauce1

As a true fan you want what the team wants. Selfish af for a fan to want your own team to not win. Imagine running your socks off and your own fans you play for are celebrating your loss

FleetingMercury

He's 100% right. The man has a winners mentality. Yet you have Spurs fans dancing and chanting along with City fans whilst your Champions League hopes are on the line. Pure loser mentality those Spurs lot have. He'll more than likely get sacked for stating the obvious as well

willium563

Its pretty hilarious, celebrating like youd won the title in October against a 9 man Liverpool to then having to throw a game to stop your biggest rivals winning a title. The Ange era is going to be another banter filled era and I am here for it absolutely despise Spurs fans couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

Arseluvr

I can see Manchester United taking a hard look at Ange’s character and thinking, let’s get him in to replace Hag. His winning mentality is wasted at Spurs.

MFmadchillin

Spurs sub… hahahahaha. What an absolutely disgraceful lot of supporters. To call yourselves supporters of a club…. Disgusting.

laserfaces

Loser mentality by the fans. They don't deserve to win shit

theglasscase

Surely he can’t genuinely be so naive that he believes what happened tonight in the stands was unique to Spurs, right? Didn’t pretty much the same thing happen a few years ago when Everton played Man City at Goodison and City winning pretty much guaranteed them the league ahead of Liverpool? Chelsea fans probably enjoyed Spurs having their title challenge ended that night they won the league for Leicester more than the actual win, you can pick out any scenario that was similar to tonight between any rivals and the atmosphere inside the stadium would be the same. Spurs obviously still need to add more quality to their squad, but it also looks like Ange Postecoglou has been found out tactically too. They’ve been terrible for the whole of the second half of the season, and he’s made no noticeable adjustments to try and stop the rot. There might be big changes to the playing squad in the summer, but I think there will be a change in the dugout by June 2025 too.

better-every-day

Don’t think he’s been found out tactically, they’ve just been playing without a striker for like two months.

BTECGolfManagement

Sorry but the pearl clutching on here really really shows how much of an echo-chamber it is - any self respecting TRUE fan (not an American plastic) would not want to hand their rivals the title. End of. Postecoglu is right to be upset but talk to any proper spurs fan from north London and they’ll fucking tell you they wanted to lose that

Also, Spurs had the chance to get top 4, they have been awful this past months, can't blame the fans for not believing in a top 4 finish even if they win against City. Just a shitty situation to be as a fan and as a manager tbh
