honestly in term of league quality, half supprised to see Portugal as low as they are. However for Portugal most not native born- players are Brazilian and that may play a part in it
Also it doesn't help the lack of visibility. See Grimaldo, for example. He's been playing at top level for Benfica for 7 years but he wasn't never called to the national team. It changed the moment he went to Bayer.
It took more than half a season at Bayer aswell and he only got the chance initially because of injury to Gaya. So it didn't just change the moment he joined them but in general it's true that they are ignorant of leagues outside the "big four"
The amount of injuries that happened in the last 7 years and Spain called someone with half the talent of Grimaldo...yes, it did happen pretty much just after he left Benfica.
And also most of the players from Portugal play in the big four leagues. And then, for example, almost half of the czechia squad is from the home league
We are low because we have a stacked NT. If most of our players were from inside the league we would not be so strong. I look at this and see that we have produced many top quality players in the last few years that moved for better leagues.
It's because Portugal is so stacked. Most of their players play for top teams from the top 5 leagues.
Czechian players or Greek players are nowhere that good.
Serie B mentioned🥳😎
Off the top of my head, its 2 from Pisa, 1 from Bari?, 1 from Cittadella, 2 from Parma, 2 from Venezia, maybe 1 from Ternana? Not sure the rest
Fun fact: None of the 4 players from the Danish Superliga are representing Denmark. It's Denis Vavro from Slovakia, Patrick Pentz from Austria, Scott McKenna from Scotland and Igor Vekic from Slovenia.
Somewhat surprisingly, the lowest ranked league from which we pulled a player is the Danish Superliga, and even then, Scott McKenna was on loan to Copenhagen from Nottingham Forest so I'm not sure if he counted as the EPL or not
trades tend to go in one direction, where the money is. they export more than import. im now struggling to remember any big name european player who went to play in SA
none is still surprising
Why would they have any? The only European players in South America are generally random old guys in Brazil. Right now there’s payet and bolasie there but a ton of examples the last few years
Actually there are 3 players from the Slovenian 1st league in the Slovenian squad: Žan Karničnik (Celje), Timi Max Elšnik (Olimpija Ljubljana) and Josip Iličić (Maribor)
La liga the league with most academy players and less foreigners . So many spanish players which means less internationals because not everyone can get called up for spain ofcourse
You cant really judge a league by this stat
Not necessarily, La Liga has more southamerican players due to cultural similarities than other European leagues, but probably less players from northern Europe, for example.
They should compare Euro + Copa America contributions to give a better picture.
Its pretty shared
1)Real Madrid - €143 million
2)Barcelona - €130 million
3)Girona - €118 million
4)Atletico Madrid - €106 million
5)Athletic Club - €93 million
6)Real Sociedad - €81 million
7)Real Betis - €68 million
8)Villarreal - €59 million
9)Valencia - €56 million
10)Deportivo Alaves - €54 million
Some of the qualified teams have many players playing in Serie A, like Poland, Serbia (both could almost field a starting team only with Serie A players), Albania. Spain has more South Americans, who of course don't compete in the Euros.

Yeah, but it’s crazy that Italy SERIE B has more players than Portuguese league
Smaller Balkan and Eastern European nations are the entirety of serie b representation
These things are kind of a fluke. I remember one AFCON where there were several Spanish third division players in the quarter finals
The best Portuguese players can’t make it onto the Portuguese NT and most of the other top guys are South American
We might have more in Copa America and the CAN tbh
We are low because we have a stacked NT. If most of our players were from inside the league we would not be so strong. I look at this and see that we have produced many top quality players in the last few years that moved for better leagues.
Portuguese league isn't that great outside of top4
Even France has "just" 28 players. Probably half of them playing for PSG. Then the gap to Portuguese League isnt that big anymore.
It's because Portugal is so stacked. Most of their players play for top teams from the top 5 leagues. Czechian players or Greek players are nowhere that good.
Serie B mentioned🥳😎 Off the top of my head, its 2 from Pisa, 1 from Bari?, 1 from Cittadella, 2 from Parma, 2 from Venezia, maybe 1 from Ternana? Not sure the rest
Parma: Balogh (Hungary); Mihaila, Man (Romania) Spezia: Nagy (Hungary) Cittadella: Kastrati (Albania) Sudtirol: Kurtic (Slovenia) Pisa: Mlakar (Slovenia); Marin (Romania) Sampdoria: Stojanovic (Slovenia) Ascoli: Djuris (Slovakia) Palermo: Nedelcearu (Romania) Bari: Puscas (Romania) Cremonese: Lochoshvili (Georgia)
I was half right🥳 i really thought finland qualified oops Thinking of the romanian team helped a lot, didn't think they were basically half of it tho
Wow 1/5 of Romania's team plays in serie B, are they that bad?
what? Serie B is massive.
well Parma promoted so technically two more Romanian players are playing in Serie A
Confirmed: MLS > Swiss Super League I have spoken
USA USA USA USA USA USA
I mean, yeah probably?
...but we're well below the Saudis....
I mean is Inter Miami currently the best team in the MLS? On the other hand you have Young Boys Bern.
I think it's fair to say MLS quality is somewhere around the Cypriot First Division
That’d be quite unfair, actually
To the teams from Cyprus?
No you tool
Mr. Ádám... Mr. Asani... let's show them the power of the K League...
Surprised there's two from South Korea (did research and they are Martin Adam for Hungary and Jasir Asani for Albania).
I will now require all "Top 7 leagues" statistics to include Turkey and Czechia, the numbers don't lie.
EFL champ...respect
Above the bundesliga lmao (I know I know)
Fun fact: None of the 4 players from the Danish Superliga are representing Denmark. It's Denis Vavro from Slovakia, Patrick Pentz from Austria, Scott McKenna from Scotland and Igor Vekic from Slovenia.
Greece would be in top 5 had their NT made the tournament 🤦
Pain
Neat. Who's the player playing in the Azerbaijani league? I will assume they're in the Scotland squad until told otherwise.
Gugeshashvili, Georgia GK
Georgia also have the single Iranian league player, Giorgi Gvelesiani
Georgian man...
Somewhat surprisingly, the lowest ranked league from which we pulled a player is the Danish Superliga, and even then, Scott McKenna was on loan to Copenhagen from Nottingham Forest so I'm not sure if he counted as the EPL or not
A georgian goalkeeper if I remember correctly!
!Flair :England:
Not a single player from a south American league? Wow, I'm surprised
They all got bought by MLS and Saudi, probably.
trades tend to go in one direction, where the money is. they export more than import. im now struggling to remember any big name european player who went to play in SA none is still surprising
I remembered Gignac but that Mexican league
Janseem from Netherlands last Euro was also in that League
Why would they have any? The only European players in South America are generally random old guys in Brazil. Right now there’s payet and bolasie there but a ton of examples the last few years
I thought some Portuguese or Belgian Players could play in Brazil for some reason
Actually there are 3 players from the Slovenian 1st league in the Slovenian squad: Žan Karničnik (Celje), Timi Max Elšnik (Olimpija Ljubljana) and Josip Iličić (Maribor)
Dude's just ready for Elšnik leaving.
PAOK : Zivkovic (SRB) AEK : Vida (CRO), Szymanski (POL), Gacinovic (SRB), Zuber (SWI) Panathinaikos : Mladenovic (SRB), Cerin, Sporar, Verbic (SLO) Akaydin (TUR) Panetolikos : Tabidze, Shengelia (GEO)
La Liga is in free fall
La liga the league with most academy players and less foreigners . So many spanish players which means less internationals because not everyone can get called up for spain ofcourse You cant really judge a league by this stat
No I think I will
La Liga has a lot less foreigners compared to the other top leagues, so it's not really a surprise.
My guess is that La Liga has bigger number of non-European foreigners (mostly South Americans) than other leagues.
There are more spaniards, Portuguese and Latins play in La Liga hence the numbers not a free fall because it was not a surprise to begin with
Not necessarily, La Liga has more southamerican players due to cultural similarities than other European leagues, but probably less players from northern Europe, for example. They should compare Euro + Copa America contributions to give a better picture.
Maybe you guys should share some of that TV money
Its pretty shared 1)Real Madrid - €143 million 2)Barcelona - €130 million 3)Girona - €118 million 4)Atletico Madrid - €106 million 5)Athletic Club - €93 million 6)Real Sociedad - €81 million 7)Real Betis - €68 million 8)Villarreal - €59 million 9)Valencia - €56 million 10)Deportivo Alaves - €54 million
Difference between EPL winners and 20th place is 1.7x
That’s a crazy imbalance
Go back to WC 2022 and La Liga had by far the most players in semi finals
How the fuck are 8 player from the croatian league lol
Most are probably in the croatian squad :D
6 are from croatia and the other two are Hoxha from Albania and Kleinheisler from Hungary
Shocked to see Serie A ahead of La Liga.
Some of the qualified teams have many players playing in Serie A, like Poland, Serbia (both could almost field a starting team only with Serie A players), Albania. Spain has more South Americans, who of course don't compete in the Euros.
