Felt like france was not in full form in the goal conversion department. They had like 2 or 3 chances which they would convert in top form
Their defense was a bruck wall, though
Can't believe kante started, surreal for a Saudi league player to start for the euros favourites and win MOTM haha. France are shaky and don't create much. Austria were good at winning the ball but not creating much a bit like Serbia. The Mbappe injury is unfourtunate but France should still manage the win against the dutch. They need to finish 1st in the group otherwise they'll have the harder bracket.
to be honest, France was not that bad, it was Austria that was good. The way they pressured yesterday was amazing. You have to be a skilled team to get passed that kind of pressure.
you didn't do too bad, had a great chance and unfortunately the referee fucked you up with shambolic decisions (no corner then France's goal, handball from Koundé)
That has nothing to do with what I wrote. I knew that someone like you would come along and comment this. Yes, we might screw up but I'm talking about Austria here, not Germany.
They played against the no 2 in the world. It's not like anyone expected them to create chances en masse. They played a solid game and should be fine against Poland or the Netherlands.
I don't think so. Netherlands will surely beat them and it's gonna be very tough against Poland. They also created 1 real chance against France, that's it. Hungary's performance against France in 2021 was better.
Yep, let's compare random games from 3 years ago with the game yesterday. By that logic Austria should beat Germany pretty easily since they won the friendly last year.
Any points against France are considered bonus points. They are not the opponents to beat in this group.
It's a good comparison because the game was very similar with the only difference being that Hungary were more creative and therefore scored a goal. It was also a group stage game in the Euros, not a friendly.
I watched Austria France in a loud bar and assumed that the Baumgartner chance was offside somewhere, because there was no corner after. Turns out it just wasn't given... what the FUCK? That is diabolical. Send the whole refereeing team packing.
People are on about Germany and Spain and their flashy goalscoring but neither can beat France or England and they'll see. Defence is a big part of foot all.
France has a very good defense, especially with Kante back to his best. Austria will definitely score goals in their next two games, the Dutch midfield is decimated by injuries and Poland is Poland.
Austria aren't *terrible*, I think they looked more dangerous than Serbia, and reasonably well organised. They were in great form coming into this game, too.
Look at the stats, they were marginally more dangerous than Serbia. Not really anything worth mentioning. You saw the game, Austria was never going to score no matter what.
Austria had more than double the xG and 3x more shots on target. They were more dangerous. Against a better defence, too.
Baumgartner had a great chance to score. Probably the best chance of the first half.
xG are irrelevant and the Baumgartner chance was the only real chance. That was literally it. I think people just hate England and therefore want to make France appear less bad as if they played against a better opponent when really Austria and Serbia are equally bad.
It's you that said look at the stats. How is xG now irrelevant? Are we ignoring shots on target too, then?
I'm English.... Austria was one of the most in-form teams in Europe coming into this game. Sorry, I disagree.
Austria is as far above Serbia in rankings as Germany is above Austria.
xG in particular is irrelevant especially when a tournament starts. You see it with Hungary too. Everything else is important though, shots on target, possession etc...Austria are only marginally better in those regards. And yes, Austria were very in-form but that doesn't matter when the real thing starts, England were out of form but now they won.
I'm not sure how 3x as many shots on target compared to Serbia can be considered marginal? (Same amount of shots on target as England, too).
The Baumgartner chance alone was a better chance than any Serbia, or France chance (in first half).
the end product wasn't much different though - both have tweaks to make. And had the Bowen-Saka sub been made earlier, we might be viewing that aspect very differently
France xG 2.09 vs England's 0.54.
France created more chances (France 13 vs England's 7) and France also created much greater quality of chances.
Unless by end product you mean the final score?
End product just means turning that xG into goals. They created 2 xG yet the only really big chance was the Mbappe miss, otherwise they collected the xG on low quality chances.
Not saying England was better but with the talent France has you expect them to do more in the final third
>yet the only really big chance was the Mbappe miss,
Giroud chance was a sitter, too.
I don't think England created *any* high-quality chances outside of the goal they scored.
Edit: Kane chance too tbf
Understandable, considering France had the same result. Surely, something has to change for the next game, though. The balance of the team just seemed off.
I still can't believe we didn't take a single fit left back
I seriously question anyone's football knowledge if they still think Rangnick is some cheap gimmick. Put some respect on his name. They played France off the park at times with the counterpress. They broke the record for most ball recoveries in a single Euro game tonight. The Netherlands will be another tough test, but I like Austria's chances against them.
Thanks to a fairly open Dutch DM which they managed to pass frighteningly easily at times, Dutch backline produced several mistakes as well.
France was practically flawless on defence and knew exactly how to prevent our style, we have limited creativity on offense and need those breakthrough moments.
In fact, i would say France has been the only team in the last 2 years which effectively neutralized us on tactics alone.
I think it'll be an exciting match against Poland but i'm confident we'll win it. I reckon we have a good chance against that Dutch DM/backline as well, but we'll see.
We rely on our OMs pushing in and opening spaces, we don't have great strikers. Sabitzer had a poor night, Baumgartner was doubled and even tripled. Game over.
[Breaking: The Spanish Football Federation prepares to send a different referee to the Euros](https://imgur.com/a/AB7GoIE). The other Federations are dubious about the move, but are willing to overlook the risk of bias for desperately-needed increase in competence.
other than all the other bullshit,
wanna say good game to Austria, they played insanely well and could've punished us several times today. I can definitely see them taking points from both the Dutch and the Polish.
Yes the game was terrible. I don't want to hear people complaining about how England played when France were doing the exact same. Also teams like Austria and Serbia don't have what it takes, they lack the basic requirements of tournament football which is SCORING A FUCKING GOAL. They're too incompetent.
It feels like France has that Real Madrid vibe. They defend great in the box and never panic. They know they have the better players, they accept to concede the ball sometimes but they know they will eventually score
perhaps, but there were two chances (1st when Maignan had a great save with his leg, 2nd when Kante did what Kante does) where they could've scored.
Their press also can cause lots of problems
I think that guy is joking and obviously it isn’t a top 5 league but it’s a fair bit better than what people think. Saudis are genuinely crazy about football and have been for a long time, and they are and have been for some time now investing heavily in it. They win the Asian CL variant (I forget it’s name now) regularly.
I mean yeah, it’s a fairly new league in a state with an enormous population density discrepancy between the cities participating. Still, the top teams have 50k+ attendance, which is more than many European leagues. Also the bottom isn’t very far from many European leagues as well, eredivisie for example or premier league (Luton had barely 4k attendance)
I don't think Mbappe should continue playing this Euro because his nose is completely broken and displaced. Another impact could easily cause more serious injury. But France really needs him and he himself definitely wants to play so I think he might just rest for one game before returning with a mask.
What's your problem? That game was just as terrible as England v Serbia. Literally nothing happened. I don't care if Austria are good at pressing or whatever, they can't do anything once they have the ball just like Serbia. I can't understand how anyone enjoyed that game. The most entertaining game was Poland-Netherlands.
Nah because i was scrolling down the comments and I saw you shitting on Austria plenty of times lol. Did some Austrian bang your girlfriend or something? 😂 I thought they played well against a very strong France team and at least they came to play.
I'm annoyed by teams getting overhyped when they are incapable of creating real chances. This game wasn't close, Austria were harmless and they could have played for another 60 minutes and wouldn't have scored. I wouldn't call that a good performance, they lose anyway. Greece were great in 2004 because they were capable of scoring goals as was Morocco in the last World Cup. Austria will go home just like Serbia, I expected more from them.
As some people wrote in another thread, and at the time I upvoted 67 others also did, somehow one knew the OG was coming. If it was the missed chance that was followed up by the missed corner, which happens, but for some reason in these match ups of clear fav vs. really engaged underdog or however you wanna narrate it, an "undeserved" goal will ensue and take all the engagement of the viewer away by the unfortunate event. I knew about 8 seconds before the goal this was such a game. something about narratives of certain match ups just panning out a certain foreseeable way. Turned off the game right when the goal happened. The rest of the game is just to disheartening/-appointing.
Chimbonda was also in 2006. Such a great team full of generational talents such as Chimbonda, Dhorasoo and Rothen. Ok, Rothen wasn't there, but it's all the same.
Imo he wasnt bad last year at Chelsea in the few games he played, just his status as the player that is always injured wasnt going to land him at a top european club, and since the Saudi offer must have been attractive, he went there. But that doesnt mean he instantly turned into a fraud, unlike some other players who went to the SPL
Tying on occasions he will need to wear a mask while playing with Callum McGregor is not the record of his Mbappe would have been looking to equal tonight
Genuine question: what’s so bad about this ref in your opinion? Imo he was better than the refs of the last few games, only obvious mistake I saw him make was giving a gk when it was an obvious corner in the first half
Missed a hand in favor of the Austrians, he was in the way several times on key passes, very late yellow for Danso, shambolic management of Mbappe's injury and subsequent change...
A disasterclass overall.
He did not give a clear corner kick for Austria, but instead gave a goal kick to France, which lead to the one and only goal. This alone fucked the game.
He was penalizing austian players way more than the french. Everytime a french player fell a foul was called. He have the Austrian defenders yellow cards in the first half of the match. A clear handball was not given to Austria. That whole Mbappe situation at the end.
He did a really bad job at managing the game in my opinion, that’s why so much petulance was being pulled by the end of the game and so many players had hot tempers too.
Yes you read that right...that awful time wasting lost him all respect I had for him. No matter how great of an player he is and will be, that's a disgusting behavior. Ref should have shown him red.
I'm not a supporter of either team but he did that so the ref would stop the game and France could bring on substitutes that were supposed to come on but hadn't because the ref didn't see leaving France with 10 men.
He did that so the ref had to stop the game. The ref doesn't need to allow substitutions, if it would interfere with the game. A player who just received medical help also needs to wait for the ref to pet him back in..Mbappe going back on the pitch is unsportsmanlike and should be punished hard. Otherwise every "injured" player will go back on the pitch If the enemy is on the attack....
France literally had 2 subs ready at the same time as when the ref allowed Austria to use their subs.
So, why were Austria allowed to use their subs but France weren't during the same point in time.
If the ref had any form of brain cells he would have let France take off Mbappe and someone else to bring on Giroud and Fofana.
Did you even watch the game?
If it was the dying minutes of a game and the ref just ignored you wanting to make substitutions and your player did the same you wouldn't be saying this.
Also he did get punished he got a yellow card.
Anyway i suspect there is no convincing you im seeing things from a neutral point of view but understandably you have your bias.
Fyi i thought Austria played great and deserved a draw.
Have a good evening i look forward to seeing Austria's next game. 🙂
Lol I'm not even Austrian..I'm also as neutral as one could be. But this behavior is just childish and unsportsmanlike and should be punished more harshly. He's probably laughing about that yellow card, because he won't get another one in the game unless he does unsportsmanlike shit again.
How can this be okay, when the ref is the one supposed to be in charge? Soon every team will do that to stop an attack. People like you would probably call it tactic, I call it scum behavior.
I also wish you a wonderful evening, but your opinion on this is just unfathomable to me.
>People like you would probably call it a tactic
I certainly would not but i can understand why they would.
I'm not a fan of all the "gamesmanship" in football these days my least favourite recently would be players falling and instantly grabbing the ball before the ref has blown his whistle!
Should be a yellow card for handball but it's not punished and the Premier League is full of it currently.
I understand why they do this because they already know they're beaten so dive and grab the ball in a simulation that fools the ref to give a free kick.
Just because i don't like or agree with it doesn't mean i cannot understand why they would do it.
These tactics sadly are used so frequently nowadays...call me biased but certain teams can just fuck right off. Those include Mbappes current team and the one he will move to in the summer...hate me as much as you want (I know there will be hate lol), but it's true. Refs need to punish that shit or football will become a farce (If it isn't already)
Of course it all boils down to the rules. Its a way to win, somehow legally, players will do it. Rules and reffing is a joke rn, and not just in soccer.
crazy how this sub is biased man it is like I have seen another game, half time they were at 12 fouls against 1 or 2 for France and they kept going in the second half, insane they stayed at 11
True. This was pretty much the same game as England vs Serbia. Little effort by the French but it's enough because the opponent is too fucking incompetent to do anything with the ball. People saying this game was "close" are delusional. France and England play unattractive football but it's effective.
Just average online England fans, we can win our opening match of a tournament and yet you’d think we lost by how mental some users are going over the performance. It really makes no sense to me, I honestly think these people would rather cheer against England to prove a point than support the team through thick and thin like what they should be doing.
France doesn’t have a number 10 to create chances and it showed yesterday.
They are just praying for a Mbappe run to create any kind of chances.
The defense and gk are by far the strongest feat in the squad.
How?? So many cool characters in that team. Weren't even allowed to sub and had to give Mbappe a yellow for no reason. It's a great team to watch and I find myself rooting for them bc of the players they have
I find it easier to root for France when the specific idiots there that everyone truly hates have an issue with their own national team. If the French grumpy racist cunts have trouble supporting their great team, it makes it easier for me to enjoy watching them play
I don't think you understood my little attempt at a joke. I don't dislike this French team, I don't enjoy watching Deschamps tactics. But they are winning so who cares, hopefully we can beat them in game 2. Also man this ref was bad.
UEFA should expand the tournament to 32 teams tbh.
Felt like france was not in full form in the goal conversion department. They had like 2 or 3 chances which they would convert in top form Their defense was a bruck wall, though
Austria were unlucky not to get a couple of penalties. Draw would probably have been a fair result
Kante winning MOTM after game Kante: Fack you
Can't believe kante started, surreal for a Saudi league player to start for the euros favourites and win MOTM haha. France are shaky and don't create much. Austria were good at winning the ball but not creating much a bit like Serbia. The Mbappe injury is unfourtunate but France should still manage the win against the dutch. They need to finish 1st in the group otherwise they'll have the harder bracket.
If France continues like this next game we (NL) will beat them. France looked toothless and didn’t create shit.
Eh France usually find a way to shithouse a 1-0 win regardless. Much like Real Madrid in CL
to be honest, France was not that bad, it was Austria that was good. The way they pressured yesterday was amazing. You have to be a skilled team to get passed that kind of pressure.
Camavinga is a good player Crazy take I know
He is France’s best midfielder imo.
Kante
Nowhere near Cama’s level.
Don't be so hard on Cama, he's pretty good too
Grateful for all the respect our team get‘s when I’m here feeling meh because we didn’t really create anything
you didn't do too bad, had a great chance and unfortunately the referee fucked you up with shambolic decisions (no corner then France's goal, handball from Koundé)
Yes you literally didn't create anything. I thought you were terrible, I expected much more. Same shit as Serbia.
Let's see Germany play against a real opponent before talking shit about other teams.
That has nothing to do with what I wrote. I knew that someone like you would come along and comment this. Yes, we might screw up but I'm talking about Austria here, not Germany.

What up friend? :)
Wie geht's, Freund? :)
Mir geht's super. Mein Team ist schon in der Gruppe raus also alles easy ^^
Let's agree to disagree and see how it plays out :)
Fair enough.
VAR did it all for you in a fixed match.
Kinda expected though, especially against France. They did well with what they had.
Yep, really disappointed by our offensive play today
Might get better against teams that have problems with pressing. But it’s always gonna be tough if we fall behind
I watched Austria France in a loud bar and assumed that the Baumgartner chance was offside somewhere, because there was no corner after. Turns out it just wasn't given... what the FUCK? That is diabolical. Send the whole refereeing team packing.
Both teams were refused corners this game. Bad reffing on both ends.
France were refused a corner as well
France 🤝England Having poor first games, but don't care because they have three points regardless and they can grow into the tournament as it goes on
People are on about Germany and Spain and their flashy goalscoring but neither can beat France or England and they'll see. Defence is a big part of foot all.
How was France poor?! And austria is a good team
Clinically they were poor, but outside of that they were okay.
France did not have a poor first game, Austria are very good
Austria can press but have no end product
No world class center forward….arnau is old n slow.
Hoping Gregerl goes Super Saiyan 🙏
Exactly, and that's what makes Austria shit.
France has a very good defense, especially with Kante back to his best. Austria will definitely score goals in their next two games, the Dutch midfield is decimated by injuries and Poland is Poland.
France still looked a lot more dangerous than England against a better team
Austria and Serbia literally played the exact same way. They're both terrible and I hope they get knocked out because their games were cancer.

Foden had a good one. Kane hit the bar.
Foden's was really a half chance at best. Kane's, yep. Should have scored.
and when saka crossed it across the face of goal but Kane nor Foden could get on the end of it
France had a couple of those as well tbf
Foden had a great early chance but he miscontrolled it, Kane header too
France had other great chances, too, though. Mbappè first half. Greizmann militmetres from a tap-in. I'm talking about proper sitters.
Yeah I agree France had a stronger first game, just tired of all the negative takes I've seen about England already
Understandable, considering France had the same result. Surely, something has to change for the next game, though. The balance of the team just seemed off. I still can't believe we didn't take a single fit left back

They created fuck all apart from one chance in first half. No creativity just hopefil cross after hopeful cross
Doesn't matter if you can't create any chances. That's what football is about, the Polish did much better against the Netherlands.

They had the right ideas, but it was a player issue more than a coaching one.
not much he can do. we haven‘t got a single young dynamic striker.
Kevin danso: 6 ball recoveries, 4 interceptions, 20 tackles, 1 broken nose😎 Saw about 5 'rwanda congo mali' comments during, be better chaps

Lmao, stick this in r/clementturpin
Maximilien Veughbairs, héro français
other than all the other bullshit, wanna say good game to Austria, they played insanely well and could've punished us several times today. I can definitely see them taking points from both the Dutch and the Polish.
I don't know, I never felt like they could score a goal in this game. They terribly lack offensive talent imo.
We definitely do, but we've never struggled this hard. It was thanks to excellent French defense, Deschamps knew exactly what to do to neutralize us.
They had one really good shot, but outside of that I didn’t think they were all that threatening.
Both teams were mediocre. France doesn't necessarily deserve that win either.
Yes the game was terrible. I don't want to hear people complaining about how England played when France were doing the exact same. Yeah this is gonna be quite a tough group to be honest
People are shocked that going to Saudi doesn’t magically make all your talent go away like its space jam
Ngolo is a professional. He doesn't strike me as someone to treat it like a holiday.
The Saudi league is a top 5 league. It’s the only explanation for this masterclass performance by N’golo Kanté. Sorry ligue 1.
Thank you for your input Mr. new American fan looking for a club to support.
I think that guy is joking and obviously it isn’t a top 5 league but it’s a fair bit better than what people think. Saudis are genuinely crazy about football and have been for a long time, and they are and have been for some time now investing heavily in it. Yep, that’ll explain the average attendance of 8k people per game. There are German 4th tier teams that pull more fans than the Saudi oil clubs

Lol what?
If we win (or even draw) the next game, he won't be back until the round of 16.
Good. Beat up the Netherlands and then put a weak squad for the game with Poland so your best can rest, please.
How important is a nose though? The streets aren’t ready for mouthbreather Mbappe
I really think he should skip the game on Friday. And I'm not biased at all.
So good to watch kante again after not watching him play in Saudi at all cause fuck that league.
Austria were really fucking good! Tough group for any team for sure
No they weren't, they were terrible. Boring, overhyped team which can't create chances and score a fucking goal.
gschissana piefke

Chimbonda was also in 2006. Such a great team full of generational talents such as Chimbonda, Dhorasoo and Rothen. Ok, Rothen wasn't there, but it's all the same.
this is Stephane Guivarc'h erasure
In which universe was he our star player?
The one where you can recognise an obvious joke
He's the greatest documentary director to ever play for us.
Was very surprised by Kante which is ironic because I have always rated him a lot but I thought he was done after going to Arabia.
Imo he wasnt bad last year at Chelsea in the few games he played, just his status as the player that is always injured wasnt going to land him at a top european club, and since the Saudi offer must have been attractive, he went there.
Yeah ok fair enough, I learned more about the Mbappe fuckup after writing my original comment, no clue what he was thinking there
He did a really bad job at managing the game in my opinion, that’s why so much petulance was being pulled by the end of the game and so many players had hot tempers too.
The S in MLS is for the Shadow realm.

tbf, the man was up against Mbappe. Most RBs struggle.

I'm sorry?
thats probbly Manzanos reddit account lmao
>People like you would probably call it a tactic I certainly would not but i can understand why they would.
100% agree with you. But if time wasting causes you to lose respect, why did you have any for him in the first place? Guys the master at rat tacticts.
But especially in soccer. Players have no shame anymore.
So what will happen with Mbappe?! Will he miss the tournament?
If its just a broken nose then he should still be able to play effective next game
Probably not. He’ll probably just get some protection for his face and play on.
he died on the way to the hospital
Best player on the pitch today plays in the Saudi league
TIL that Barca was in the Saudi League
Same happaned in Romania vs Ukraine Stanciu plays for Damac
My reactions to seeing Kante in the line up was unfounded.
Gil Manzano means Bellend Apple Tree in Argentine Spanish. Make of that what you will.
A hilariously shit interview
Austrians are butchers
No, we're messerstechers, bro. Shoutout every Habibi from Wien X.
Wien X is turkish bro not habibi

How so?
crazy how this sub is biased man it is like I have seen another game, half time they were at 12 fouls against 1 or 2 for France and they kept going in the second half, insane they stayed at 11
They make a lot of schnitzels
Hmmmmmm schnitzels good
Average La Liga match

True. This was pretty much the same game as England vs Serbia. Little effort by the French but it's enough because the opponent is too fucking incompetent to do anything with the ball. People saying this game was "close" are delusional. France and England play unattractive football but it's effective.
Scoreline wise they are the same game. Eyeball wise not really.
[удалено]
Disagreed. Level of playing was much higher for both teams in this game, which made it more entertaining.
true, not a lot of French people with weird club based agendas in here
not a lot of international professional haters or trolls either
Just average online England fans, we can win our opening match of a tournament and yet you’d think we lost by how mental some users are going over the performance. It really makes no sense to me, I honestly think these people would rather cheer against England to prove a point than support the team through thick and thin like what they should be doing.
I love how its always the same. France always gets a first shit game and people say we’re not that good after all and we won’t go far lmao
France doesn’t have a number 10 to create chances and it showed yesterday. They are just praying for a Mbappe run to create any kind of chances. The defense and gk are by far the strongest feat in the squad.
You are really good, just unlikeable
How?? So many cool characters in that team. Weren't even allowed to sub and had to give Mbappe a yellow for no reason. It's a great team to watch and I find myself rooting for them bc of the players they have
French
True and real fuck the french
I find it easier to root for France when the specific idiots there that everyone truly hates have an issue with their own national team. If the French grumpy racist cunts have trouble supporting their great team, it makes it easier for me to enjoy watching them play
true. I start off hating France but then remember that I don't want to give French racists the satisfaction lol
I don't think you understood my little attempt at a joke. I don't dislike this French team, I don't enjoy watching Deschamps tactics. But they are winning so who cares, hopefully we can beat them in game 2. Also man this ref was bad.
It’s because it’s a shit joke. Hope it helped
It’s Gil Manzano, the minute I see his face I just know we’re in for a bad game
