Beetle-Persona

By unpopular demand we persist, you will enjoy Southgate ball, you will waste 90mins watching it lol

GibbsLAD

This game didn't make me want to kill myself, it was a slight improvement.

Temporary-Banana5873

Mild torture was enough today, definitely an improvement.

RodDryfist

I love how that's where we are in this abusive relationship with Southgate's terrorball. Stockholm Syndrome has taken effect the further we get.

trowawayatwork

England squad managed to get this far despite Southgates efforts to crash out. under a semi competent manager this side should winning by 3-4 goal margins. doesn't matter what's in defence that front 4 + rice/Palmer/mainoo should be scoring from all parts of the pitch. instead we have terrorism

going_down_leg

It was fine until about the 60th minute and then the whole team had a collective realisation that they were supposed to be playing a lot worse than they currently were

KeepenItReel

Speak for yourself

GibbsLAD

come on man it was better than slovakia or slovenia

helpnxt

Better than 70% of England games I've watched in the past 20 years tbf, we've always been a bit shit and boring.

phatelectribe

Absolutely. Came out attacking for once and had the majority of possession.

InfinityEternity17

That's a very low bar tbf

[deleted]

Our first shot on target came fifteen minutes earlier! It'll happen in the 65th next game and 50th in the final

InfinityEternity17

Let's gooooo

nien9gag

swiss games have been great to watch this tournament. sad to see them leave.

Mrbeefcake90

>sad to see them leave. Not when its us winning!

Mustard__Tiger

No this was sad for everyone and football itself.

djwillis1121

England Vs France final? Most boring match of all time

FoggingTired

Just skip straight to the penalties, save us all the hassle

dylan103906

We've had to endure 240 minutes in the knockouts alone

McRazor_

360 it is then

Game0nBG

120*

jurwell

*120 mins plus stoppage time, thank you very much.

BenUFOs_Mum

God everyone in reddit is so fucking miserable.

FSElmo435

Literally! Anyone would think Southgate had skinned a cat in front of the entire stadium with the way he keeps getting shit on

BenUFOs_Mum

Lol Im a critic of Southgate but can't people just enjoy a win to take us to the semifinal of a major tournament. Wasn't even a particularly boring match.

phatelectribe

Critic of southgate? It may have been boring until this game but while he’s winning your criticism falls on deaf ears. I’d love it if England just pounded every team but I’ll also take a slow, plodding boring march to victory if that’s what it takes.

AMightyDwarf

That would be more entertaining to watch tbh

Ok_Detail_1

This reminds a lot on my Croatia. 1-1 Japan and Brazil and also 1-1 Denmark and Russia.

MLDK_toja

Croatia Russia was 2:2 and penalties wasn’t it?

Theddt2005

90 more like 120 of the Southgate masterclass

twelfmonkey

>you will waste 90mins watching it lol Not sticking around for the extra time and pens?

TellTallTail

Who has more penalty trauma, the Netherlands or England

throwaccount0011

I mean I wouldn't say the penalties are a waste of time.

The_Meaty_Boosh

I love seeing the pure euphoria that has people embracing complete strangers out of sheer joy. Guy at the front is hugging anyone and everyone, that's what footballs all about.

MissingLink101

I'm not sure I've ever experienced the type of joy that makes me want to take off my top and swing it around my head. Fair play to those who do.

WhyBee92

Flair checks out for the past decade

Willing-Werewolf-500

I had a season ticket at United, and my first game was the 4-3 with City when Michael Owen scored in the last minute. I hugged a total stranger. I was like: shit, will it be like this every week?

Televison

Oh don’t worry it was like that for me at the cup final just gone i hug the stranger next me about 2 times and we didn’t speak a word to eachother

largemanrob

brother did you watch the fa cup final!

DentistFun2776

r/soccer public enemy number one

bullairbull

Whats funny is that most of the hate for England comes from people with PL flairs.

m4xdc

Damned Brits, they ruined Britain!

Muur1234

no chance theyre english lol

freehouse_throwaway

tbh i thought self loathing is an english past time?

WildVariety

it is but this subreddit is full of people who follow English clubs but absolutely hate the English.

KeepItDusty88

You’ve just made an enemy for life!

slaydawgjim

It's almost as if they're mostly plastic fans from countries with shit leagues.

BenUFOs_Mum

People who enjoy watching football aren't allowed here

PowerOfTheShihTzu

Facts ,they list be seething them poor souls

Red_Dog1880

I'd fucking love to watch a game in such a venue. Looks class.

EezoManiac

You haven't seen the price of drinks there

Red_Dog1880

I'm well aware. But given that after every goal the beer goes flying everywhere you've got a good chance to end up with a refilled cup.

andreew10

you'd be waiting quite awhile to have your cup refilled watching us

Perite

But only once per game this tournament.

Adventurous_Turn_543

It's London and a day out

paarsehond

We have these in Belgium. We just don’t have the results to make people happy

Red_Dog1880

Yeah ? I've never seen those... I only tend to watch games at home or in pubs. edit: Unless you mean like public viewings in market squares ? I've done this, but this looks better because it's enclosed imo.

paarsehond

Tour and Taxis in Brussels comes close to this one, but they are mostly in open air and more in cities. But of you go to these you mainly go for the ambiance, a lot of people aren’t really interested in the game. Which can suck if you are.

Educational_Ad2737

This is boxpark. A food court essentially. ( indoor food market) that has a Dj on and some evenings with fat tv for events like this .

ThinkAboutThatFor1Se

Assuming this is the Croydon one I went there for one of the World Cup KO matches. They offered out ponchos for people because of the beer that gets thrown around 😂

Uniform764

Coming home status: it's

wildingflow

flights booked, suitcase packed, on the way to the airport…

northyj0e

Booked it, packed it, fucked off.

MrNostalgic

Get the vindaloo ready mate

sylanar

I've got the bucket ready

EezoManiac

Can I introduce you, please, to a lump of cheddar cheese

phatelectribe

It’s called matar paneer.

_Meegz

Mum ✅ Dad ✅ Etc

count-of-tuscany

the vinyl sphere is returning to its place of origin

Federal-Owl-8947

Congratulations England fans you have suffered enough to earn this.

BaslerLaeggerli

I might be biased, but I feel like Swiss fans have suffered enough as well.

tomintheshire

We need more please

montxogandia

You dont really deserve it tbh

tomintheshire

Stop being nice to us, you’re ruining the narrative

WildLemire

Most civil Chelsea/Barca fan interaction ever recorded.

tomintheshire

Oh don’t worry, I DM’ed him calling him a POS

KSBrian007

So, people genuinely like their NT. Online opinion makes it look like they want to lose for the 'I told you so' gimmick.

STILETT0_exists

You can really tell who goes outside and who doesn't

fplisadream

dizzle-j

The country is very split on this. The type of person to go to one of these fanzone things generally will be very positive and desperate for England to do well. Loves having some beers and getting all hyped up and into the spirit of the occasion. Whilst I'm not crazy enough to go to one of these things I fall into this camp mostly. I enjoy being positive about at least one thing in this country (we don't have a lot to be positive about tbh) and plus this current team is extremely likable I think (if a bit frustrating lol). But rest assured there will also be a lot of people watching at home dourly expecting them to lose and complaining out loud / in whatsapp groups / on the internet the whole way through about how boring it is and how they know better than the manager. There is definitely a contingent that I think deep down don't want to see them do well and enjoy being right when they don't. I assume it's similar in other countries but don't know?

O-Mesmerine

the funniest thing about falling ass backwards all the way into the final is the anguish it causes everyone on this subreddit. every single game

AlcoholicSocks

The people in the 'Germany going Home' thread saying England will regret this against Switzerland must be fuming

ginna500

They'll be the ones saying Switzerland were never good in the first place

AdamHasAPlan

England is going to win this thing by individual brilliance, while being a shit team

WalkingCloud

https://imgur.com/fI7u4Zo

RyansKorea

Better than France winning it with 0 goals in the whole competition although that would be funny

g0t-cheeri0s

England 0 - 1 France (88' Walker OG)

EggChaser

I'll take it any day of the fucking week

Frostfeather

A win is a win

NotMyRealUsername13

It’s the pure British experience. One minute it’s completely hopeless and you’re all getting ready to send Southgate in shackles to Australia, just cause. The next you’re absolutely certain you’ll win it all and prove your complete supremacy over all football, ignoring 60 years of evidence to the contrary. I’m not saying you’re sane over there, but it sure is fun to watch!

[deleted]

>It’s the pure British experience It's definitely English specific.

NotMyRealUsername13

I can find the doom and gloom elsewhere, it’s the instant switch to ‘coming home’ that is pure magic.

Another-attempt42

Yeah, because everyone is too shite to expect anything close to a SF, save individual wonder-runs, like Wales that one time.

InTheBigRing

In the place we watched a few lads were trying to get actual England chants going but the only one that really got everyone singing was "we're fucking shit".

ledknee

If not arrogant why Ingliss fan say "it IS coming home"? They should instead chant "I am really really hoping we do win this tournament, oh yes I do indeed!" This chant would be more precise and humble.

FtpApoc

I'm hoping our next chant can involve some complex ball progression ideas we collectively would like to see adopted. If we get the right tune going I think we could cut out Gareth altogether

SignificantPapaya4

England lives inside r/soccer rent free

Muur1234

indeed. france, holland, and spain just sat in their chairs and said "jolly good show" and thats it.

[deleted]

Fair, I don't want to be the celebration police. You won, say whatever you want.

GibbsLAD

> You won, say whatever you want. You make it sound like we are calling for a greater serbia or something. This is our song about how we always fuck up in tournaments lmao

therocketandstones

The words that sum up what this song actually means isn’t it’s coming home, it’s > Thirty years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming

GibbsLAD

everyone seems to know the score, they've seen it all before, they just know, they're so sure, that Englands gonna throw it away gonna blow it away

tomintheshire

This is when redditors read these lines and instantly become Modric clones screaming ‘arrogance’

AlcoholicSocks

Tears for heroes dressed in gray. No plans for finals day, stay in bed, drift away. The opening bloody lyrics say we've already lost and we get called arrogant for it lmao

CaptainGo

We should probably update the years cus it's been nearly 60 now

therocketandstones

Fifty eight years doesn’t really roll off the tongue as well

Muur1234

its okay, itll be 2 years of hurt for the next time its sang in 2026

Krakshotz

The “it’s coming home” bit was the fact it was the first international tournament back in England since 1966

GunstarGreen

This is what I don't get. The whole song is a cock-eyed look at how England are a bit shit. It's not an egotistical thing to sing. It's ironic and fun.

wodido

if they havent got it by now they never will lol

SqueakyBumTym

It has to be explained to clueless twats every fucking tourney.

Adventurous_Turn_543

Continentals fundamentally do not understand self depreciation, they are a serious people. This song to them does come across as England fans think they are going to win the Euros (which we are).

Snoo-92685

They didn't say /s at the end of it so redditors couldn't understand that it was sarcastic

db1000c

Other countries don’t indulge in self-deprecation, sarcasm and irony to the same self-flagellating level as the English - so it really does just look like blind arrogance to different cultures, and people who speak different languages, looking in from the outside. It’s such an obviously tongue in cheek song too which makes the hate for it so much more hilarious

costcokenny

It’s context dependent. As we’ve made the semis it’s less ironic. And who cares? Let’s have a good time

santorfo

The amount of people I have to explain that to about the song in Portugal is crazy

GibbsLAD

You are doing the lords work Joao

mairc86

I whistle this song constantly during the euros and the world cup, my mind just goes there, I can't help it, but thankfully people do not ask me why!

ledknee

My man!

R_110

This sub staunchly refuses to acknowledge the actual meaning of that song, and instead choose the arrogance narrative as it lets them hate us lol

Dafunkbacktothefunk

Literally crazy to me how people never understand the song. The whole point is that it never comes home but it always is.

the_peckham_pouncer

If you don't win this time round then at the World Cup in 2 years time that song will be smack in the middle of present day and your victory in 1966.

asdf0897awyeo89fq23f

Not a problem cos we're winning both

Articulated

>say whatever you want. I got my first erection age 12, looking at bras on the mannequins in Marks & Spencer.

Penile_Interaction

is this Boxpark in Croydongrad?

jamieliddellthepoet

Aye.

smokestacklightnin29

Somebody needs to let them know reddit says we can't enjoy winning because we've had a lucky draw. I'm sure they'll be more modest next time.

blicky-stiffy

The English are still in it my god

kilgore_trout1

We’re as surprised as you are.

Effective_Soup7783

More so, in fact.

BenditlikeBenteke

Inject this clip right into my fucking veins

GibbsLAD

How arrogant 😡

j_br2

Literally every other nation gets these posts and everyone says how much they love it, then it’s England’s turn and everyone turns into sour cunts again, it’s hilarious

MysteriousActuary194

It's the anti-english police, they're everywhere lol

6PoundsSoft

England fans celebrating a win. r/soccer gonna gave a stroke at this one.

tomintheshire

‘What’s that? A song by comedians that’s entirely about England being shite and joking how long it’s been since we won?    Absolute arrogance of them to have self deprecating jokes !!!🇮🇹🇮🇹🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸’

JRsshirt

No Fun League

TIGHazard

Ah yes, the arrogance of a song written by comedians about how shite England are. > Tears for heroes dressed in grey. > **No plans for final day.** > Stay in bed, drift away

GibbsLAD

WE STILL BELIEVE

MoRi86

You are England, you are NOT allowed to believe! (That privilege is reserved for everyone else).

potpan0

I didn't see a single person congratulating Switzerland for a good match and apologising for beating them, a disgusting lack of class.

Perite

I bet the cunts didn’t even stay behind and clean the dressing room or send a card. Classless wankers

sunken_grade

how dare they, most disrespectful fans in the world

SqueakyBumTym

I always sort these threads by controversial. Some of you people are such fucking dipshits 🤣

weird-arabian

What its all about😍

winter-2

If any other country celebrated like this, it would be fine. But for some reason England aren't allowed?

Chilis1

This thread is like a hundred people making this comment and nobody actually complaining about the England fans.

TheCatLamp

It started...

reece0n

How dare they celebrate

NumeroRyan

The main thing about it is the ‘it’s coming home’ song people think we are being really big headed but it’s literally only sung tongue in cheek in a self deprecating way. After all, the ‘it’s coming home’ song was song about the euros being played in England in 96’ football coming home was meant to be the tournament not like winning the whole thing.

Unlikely-Put-5627

Yep, also the song is all about keeping an optimistic belief despite repeated pain. It says, “England’s gonna throw it away, gonna blow it away” and “thirty years of hurt never stopped me dreaming” This isn’t arrogance, it’s encouraging a dream.

Higher the climb, steeper the fall

Tale as old as time. England reaches the semifinal, loses on penalties.

GeorgeOrwells1985

They can't keep getting away with this

HarryDaz98

The reaction to this from non-English people is going to completely normal as usual I expect

EggplantBusiness

They won so whatever

Rich-Style1404

They are getting murdered by Spain

Nyushi

I fucking love football

Man0nTheMoon915

Terrorism coming home? Get the air defence ready lads

DJ_Hindsight

Honestly that fucking song was the worst thing to happen to England 😂 Even if we aren’t in the final we sing it, then possibly lose again and we all go back to regularly scheduled gloom. I swear that song is cursed.

davensdad

I personally think it's fucking hilarious as it creates so much meme potential

thatguyad

Welp. There goes the curse again.

FR_8484

😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Educational_Ad2737

Is this Croydon or Wembley

Garruk_PrimalHunter

I'm getting déjà vu, no idea why

elctronyc

England is playing like 💩. I can believe so many stars and they can’t play together; just terrible.

marqui4me

Spain still looking the best although they have to get by the immovable and infrequently scoring France. Who knows? France beat Spain on pens after 120' goalless draw and then do the same to England in the finals? It would be amazing if France win the whole thing without scoring a goal.

yesmar0601

Havent come home so long, practically homeless now

funkybuddha_mtn

That means its not coming home again!

ReallyColdWeather

Not if Southgate has something to say about it

B_Sauce

Against Spain? No chance

JZybutz0502

Pure limbs

nostalgebra

We will be gone at the semis. Awful watch. I feel bad for the neutrals

itsmaiaaaa

It would be very funny for England to win it all with the football they've been playing. 2016 Portugal on steroids.

Vegetable_Media_209
