pigeon milk exists. pigeons are in the game
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
alternatively, almond, or similar stuff. But also don’t forget the fax machine works in misterous ways, so they might have no idea whats milk
That one could have just been a "We decided to throw this one in to mix things up!" situation. It wasn't one of the themes they got, they just made it for fun.
Splatoon is set thousands of years after humanity died. Sunken Scroll 26 in Splatoon 1 shows the remains of a human with a Wii U and its controllers. The Wii U Pro Controller is tied to a Wiimote, a controller configuration only used in one Wii U game: Splatoon, meaning Splatoon the game itself existed in the past of the Splatoon world, which means that it is entirely feasible that a human-era fax machine could print out Splatoon-related themes.
Maybe Marie and Callie are reincarnations of idols of the past, of the era of the humans. Those idols are the ones which made the humans choose the splatfest themes.
Ok as much as I don't want to think about that, they aren't mammals, meaning there's no milk, so what actually IS in there? Ink?
Ok, yeah, I'm gonna stop thinking about it.
Some guy did a video trying to find a non-meme explanation and his conclusion was that since most of the powerful/prominent characters in the game are female, and even the agents are portrayed as the female player character in most promo art, that then it must mean they're the strongest of the species, and maybe their biological advantage comes from having an extra ink pouch... which would be their breasts lol.
There are some non-mammal species that produce nutrient rich substances comparable to milk, including even some invertebrates, like jumping spiders. So it's not impossible that inklings may have developed some form of mammary glands during their evolution.
And even if inklings don't seem to have nipples and they are born with beaks, they could still breastfeed like platypuses do.
pigeon milk isnt actually milk. like you COULD drink it hypothetically, but i’m not sure if you could make chocolate with it? almond or oat or something is probably more like it.
Uhhh, either coconuts (Callie mentioned coconut ice cream in splat 1) or maybe manatees (my guess is that the use coconut milk for sweet things and manatee milk for thinks like sour cream and cheese)
Rising sea levels could change the food source, or could be the magnet field being mess up, they told that the earth magnet field is different from ours
Let's see:
- Their food source might relocate to places they can't/won't go (for example, their prey or the plants they eat would be deeper down) or evolve in ways that render them inedible.
- The flooding affects the climate the marine mammals live in (temperature of the water, amount of salt in it, currents) and might force *them* to relocate to where food isn't (or just die, if nowhere is livable for them).
- New and higher-up-the-food-chain predators might evolve (cough, Salmonid) and force the currently-existing marine mammals to adapt or die.
This was only in the North American region (because Unicorn vs Narwhal Splatfest was NA-only), no other region makes reference to it at all in dialogue. Basically every other piece of canon information we've had, including the more recent Splatoon 3 story, works off the "all mammals are extinct with the exception of Judd and Lil' Judd" premise as a starting point.
There's an entire map in Splatoon 2 showcasing different skeletons from a lot of different mammals, so probably that they learned what a manatee is at School, like how we learn about dinosaurs
Just remember that in-universe these Splatfest ideas are coming from an ancient fax machine. The inklings are probably too silly to even know what milk is lol ![img](emote|t5_324q4|1944)
Yep. The entire splatfest theme is chosen by an old fax machine that's receiving old messages about things humans were arguing over online. The messages were sent out in current times, bounced back from a star over the millennia, and are recieved by the fax machine, which at least some of the Inklings worship as an idol. In splatoon 1, The Squid Sisters would say the new Splatfest theme was coming from "on high", as far as I know. I never actually played S1.
Yeah. Splatoon lore's a bit wild sometimes.
Milk can be made from soy, almonds, oats, coconuts, cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts, like 5 other different kinds of nuts, peanuts, flaxseeds, rice, certain fruits, a lot of grains, and probably something I'm forgetting
They definitely have milk
no, juice can be made from soy, almonds, oats, coconuts, cashews, etc.
Milk is produced in the mammary glands of mammals.
edit: after reading the definitions the other poster in this comment thread is partly right, the best fit for plant based "milks" would be a soup stock or broth since heat is used in their preparation
Yep, although I just rethought about it and coffee is the closest thing to plant "milk," it's a ground seed (almond oat, cashew, and coffee bean) that water is added to with the seeds then removed
Soup is typically defined as "primarily liquid food, generally served warm or hot (but may be cool or cold), that is made by combining ingredients of meat or vegetables with stock, milk, or water" (Sourced from Wikipedia).
Milk is a liquid, but it does not contain meat or vegetables as a soup typically would, instead being MADE out of nuts, grains, and occasionally certain fruits.
The ocean can be considered a soup if the water is viewed as the liquid and the plants and aquatic life as the added ingredients.
I guess I'm just very lost on why anyone would consider milk that comes from alternative sources to be soup, given it does not fit the definition and would hardly be considered a soup by most individuals. Not trying to be rude, I just do not see a logical reason to consider it a soup. I am very confused.
The Judds are immortal via cloning, bear #3(Grizz) is a anomaly because he's the only one that survived the journey of the ark Polaris.
If by some miracle other (land) mammals survived...
I don't think there're enough mammals left to have a stable milk source to mass produce chocolate for a even single city... Let alone a entire country.
As pointed out, there's plenty of plant-based milk alternatives (and we've seen them before in the cereal ad) they can use.
On top of that though, there's also the possibility that "milk chocolate" survived as a phrase even without the milk - sort of how we still have "don't touch that dial" and "hang up the phone". (I mean, yeah, the Splatfest faxes are from the past, but the in-universe characters are familiar enough with the stuff to have opinions on 'em.)
Cuttlefish: Why the hell do you have this?
Octavio: What do you think our superweapons are powered by?
Cuttlefish: Not this. You're fucking lying to me.
I think it was canonically proven that Inklings don't mate, so I don't even understand what they'd need those for...
Edit: forget what I typed, I had a brain fart ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)
pigeon milk exists. pigeons are in the game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ alternatively, almond, or similar stuff. But also don’t forget the fax machine works in misterous ways, so they might have no idea whats milk
I think I heard that somewhere, don't they just get old faxs from old humanity?
Yeup! A fax machine was sent into space by humans and that's where the splatfest themes come from
Which then conflicts with the fact that one splatfest was Marie vs Callie
Yea I'm not sure how the lore explains that
That one could have just been a "We decided to throw this one in to mix things up!" situation. It wasn't one of the themes they got, they just made it for fun.

are you saying that Splatoon predicted itself?
It's always a possibility...
Temporal causality. Splatoon happened because Spatoon happened.
They're on TV. There's always the possibility they're just plain lying
Maybe Marie and Callie are reincarnations of idols of the past, of the era of the humans. Those idols are the ones which made the humans choose the splatfest themes.
Executive meddling, they got on Callie and Marie's mic and said "The sent Splatfast is too controversial, swap to the back up plan!"
My Alternative theory It’s Mr.grizz supplying the milk
But Mr. Grizz is male... oh god...💀
It’s only a matter of time before the manga makes it cannon, they have some weird stuff in manga
Splatoon Manga is too splatoon manga to be canon imo
Splatoon manga is too splatoon manga to be splatoon manga in the splatoon manga
splatoon manga is splatoon manga splatoon manga to splatoon manga splatoon manga in splatoon manga splatoon manga
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the manga isn't canon.
trans masc grizz
my transmasc friend agrees
i mean mr grizz is kind of in space
We have 24 hours before the milk drrrroppplets hit the Earth.
second mr. grizz is a guy **what's in that milk grizz**
I mean in splat 2 u can see a cereal ad where there is milk, so my guess is some kind of nut based milk like almond or coconut
Mate I have some bad news for you about what pigeon milk actually is
i had to learn that by playing animal crossing
Pilk
[Malk?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS05Okms7cM)
Molk
Calling it now: Frye doesn’t know what milk chocolate is but chooses it for the mystery
Pigeon milk.. is when mother pigeons regurgitate already eaten food into the babies mouths.
“i love you son” BLARGHALARGHALRGAHRGAH
Why do you think adult female inklings and octolings like marina have boobs? ![img](emote|t5_324q4|1944)
Ok as much as I don't want to think about that, they aren't mammals, meaning there's no milk, so what actually IS in there? Ink? Ok, yeah, I'm gonna stop thinking about it.

i’d like to not think about that, thank you

¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
iilk is way better than pilk just sayin
pigeon milk isnt actually milk. like you COULD drink it hypothetically, but i’m not sure if you could make chocolate with it? almond or oat or something is probably more like it.
youtube challenge: make chocolate using pigeon milk
Uhhh, either coconuts (Callie mentioned coconut ice cream in splat 1) or maybe manatees (my guess is that the use coconut milk for sweet things and manatee milk for thinks like sour cream and cheese)
But aren't manatees also mammals? They would be gone too
Yes but they’re sea creatures
All mammals including marine mammals are extinct so nope, its probably something else
Oh so coconut milk it is. Maybe almond or rice milk is used for sour cream
soy milk?
Tell me why MARINE Mammals would go extinct from flooding
Rising sea levels could change the food source, or could be the magnet field being mess up, they told that the earth magnet field is different from ours
Let's see: - Their food source might relocate to places they can't/won't go (for example, their prey or the plants they eat would be deeper down) or evolve in ways that render them inedible.
Now that I think about it, there's a good chance Salmonids probably killed off a few marine mammal species that would have survived.
Yes.
That's not an answer?
Yes.
Didn't Marina say that her landlord was a narwhal though?
This was only in the North American region (because Unicorn vs Narwhal Splatfest was NA-only), no other region makes reference to it at all in dialogue. Basically every other piece of canon information we've had, including the more recent Splatoon 3 story, works off the "all mammals are extinct with the exception of Judd and Lil' Judd" premise as a starting point.
Tl;dr; Treehouse happened.
Basically yes, but I figured a little extra elaboration wouldn't be too amiss here.
I know; I wasn't criticizing your explanation, I just wanted to dunk on the situation a little more by name.
Ah, I understand now.
Same reason why the flipper flopper tries to resemble a dolphin
But the Manatee Swag sweat still exists, therefore, unless there was some recording that Manatees existed, wouldn’t that mean that they still exist?
There's an entire map in Splatoon 2 showcasing different skeletons from a lot of different mammals, so probably that they learned what a manatee is at School, like how we learn about dinosaurs
Yeah that might be true, but I’d say there’s no way to confirm yet, maybe they could be out there and we haven’t seen them yet?
If I recall, it was confirmed in an interview that all Mammals are extinct, including marine ones
Manta rays lactate so prolly that
Except Judd
I’ve actually had coconut ice cream in a Chinese restaurant before. I think you can get it at Carribean and Asian Supermarkets as well.
Just remember that in-universe these Splatfest ideas are coming from an ancient fax machine. The inklings are probably too silly to even know what milk is lol ![img](emote|t5_324q4|1944)
Ohh, I actually forgot about that. Now I'm curious 'bout what the news dialogue will be...
Shiver: What even is this thing called "milk"? Frye: No idea, but it sounds delicious!
The cereal ads with the Monkey Crab show milk, so some kind of milk or milk alternative is clearly present in the popular culture.
Wait is that why they start w/ a fax tone?
Yep. The entire splatfest theme is chosen by an old fax machine that's receiving old messages about things humans were arguing over online. The messages were sent out in current times, bounced back from a star over the millennia, and are recieved by the fax machine, which at least some of the Inklings worship as an idol. I was gonna say
Plant-based milk
They probably use almond milk or oat milk to make stuff like icecream and chocolate. They also probably use it for making cheese.
The splatfest hasn't started yet and we already have this kind of jokes. \`Perfection.
Milk can be made from soy, almonds, oats, coconuts, cashews, hazelnuts, walnuts, like 5 other different kinds of nuts, peanuts, flaxseeds, rice, certain fruits, a lot of grains, and probably something I'm forgetting They definitely have milk

Yep, although I just rethought about it and coffee is the closest thing to plant "milk," it's a ground seed (almond oat, cashew, and coffee bean) that water is added to with the seeds then removed
coffee is also a broth by strict definition
[Lewis Black, is that you?](https://youtu.be/DxgITv5yaPI?t=185)
That's soup, milk exclusively comes from Female Mammals
what?????????????? do. do you know what soup is
I've seen people argue that the ocean is a soup. And plant "milk" more qualifies as a soup, than as milk
They use mayo of course. That white chocate ? 100% mayo.
Milkless chocolate does exist.
But one of the teams is literally called Milk
Milk FLAVORED milkless chocolate also exists.
I can understand the appeal behind chocolate-flavored milk, but milk-flavored chocolate? That's bananas!
No, that's chocolate!
Huh, interesting. What's the replacement exactly?
The most common type of milk used is Coconut Milk, as it is lactose free, satisfying audiences such as yourself!
That's cool, never knew that! Anyway I'm omw to find out what fool caused me to be lactose intolerant-
iirc the devs confirmed at one point that plant-based milk substitutes are widely used in the splatoon world, forget where though
Sea cows
Those are mammals :(
Any kind of nut that produces milk Or pigeons
almond?
~~You can milk squids in certain old versions of minecraft~~
Oh God.
There’s Judd and Lil Judd and Grizz, so in theory there’s more mammals?
The Judds are immortal via cloning, bear #3(Grizz) is a anomaly because he's the only one that survived the journey of the ark Polaris. If by some miracle other (land) mammals survived... I don't think there're enough mammals left to have a stable milk source to mass produce chocolate for a even single city... Let alone a entire country.
aren't all three also male? I don't want to know the implications if they're the only source of milk on the planet
Squid milk like that minecraft bug
Minecraft squid milk obviously
Holdup - there's a new splatfest soon and the theme is chocolate?
Yep, it was just announced!
Well then since I already joined Team Sweet before, I'm gonna take the less sweet route Hello darkness my old friend
There's a bear and two cats. There's your mammals.
I doubt a male cat and his clone are producing milk for an entire civilization, let alone producing milk at all.
It's been thousands of years and squids and octopi have evolved into a human like form. Who's to say they haven't adapted. ;)
The same place they get the milk for the processed cheese
isn’t mr grizz proof that mammals exist
He only exists because he was stranded in space for 12000+ years
No judd no
They milk Judd
Coconut milk, palm milk, any bird milk, cat milk, soy milk, rice milk and tomatoes cause why not
I imagine a chocolate glazed tomato and thanks, I hate that-
Have you tried it tho?
Manta milk.
Either ink-based or plant base, likely the latter.
judd
Judd
Cat milk doesn't sound like a good tasting milk
The vegan alternative shit like almond milk
Any number of milk substitutes. Most common for chocolate-making is coconut milk, but literally any of them will work.
Did you say chocolate?
Probably ina’nis milk
Spoiler. Open at viewer discretion: #>! Grizz milk !<
Life finds a way.

Nut
Coconut likely
It could be soy milk
Soy
Soy milk
Coconut milk
Almond milk is a thing
I mean, why would NPC Inklings and Octolings have Squammary Glands if Marine life hasn't developed the ability to lactate?
oat milk, almond milk, soy milk, whatever plants they have in the splatoon universe milk,....
Almond milk
Inklings still have breasts right?
Almond milk
Soy
Grizz is a mammal. Bear milk.
And why nobody talks about the SpongeBob splatfest
Apparently great white sharks can make a milk like uterine fluid so shark milk?
Fella A lot of humans now don’t/can’t drink dairy Non-dairy options are fairly plentiful
vegan tyope milk?... (soy, almond)
Amazonian discus fish makes a milk substitute so maybe they use that
