Rory’s net worth is estimated to be over 200 million. Not that he wouldn’t miss a couple million more but he’s probably way more upset about his winning a major drought.
It really is almost poetic though....I know most people are anti-LIV. Rory was the face of the PGA tour for over a year about the LIV stuff...Rory fading due to his own missteps is almost a microcosm of how the PGA tour faded and gave into a PGA/LIV merger. With Dechambeau on the other side on LIV, this couldn't have been written any better (I'm not a LIV supporter, but I am against entirely how the PGA tour acted...which was childish...during the entire ordeal. They painted themselves into a corner thinking they knew better and Jay and Rory basically failed in their attempt to wash LIV away. The fact that this played out the way it did is almost poetic).
Except LIV is dying because of all the money they spent and their lack of getting any major tv deals to keep them afloat which basically forced them back to the table with the PGA
The league was very unsustainable and banked on being new and different and people just don’t seem to care even with all of the big names
Rory played poorly on the same last 4-5 holes on Saturday and Sunday, Bryson needed an incredible on from the bunker to keep his tournament win alive, sometimes that just golf
Do you really believe the $9 BILLION public investment fund is running out of money due to the LIV tour?!? against the pga tour which has only about $100 million to back up a lawsuit against them?!? Bahahahaha!
Read up on what is really going on. LIV sued the PGA tour for its monopoly. In USA, industries are not allowed to have one company wholly monopolizing its industry. PGA tour basically does that. LIV sued PGA and not that it's going to win, but it has enough money to drag the PGA tour through litigation until the PGA tour has no money left. PGA tour WOULD HAVE run out of money fighting LIV in court. LIV (by way of their public investment fund) has practically infinite amounts of money...whereas the PGA tour, which operates as non-profit, does not...Jay Monahan, for as arrogant as he was during the ordeal early in LIV's existence, had no clue that his own arrogance was going to bite him in the ass down the road. Instead of allowing some sort of negotiation early in LIV's existence of players who went there being able to compete on tour and/or in majors and/or OWGR points, he shunned them all (not realizing a lawsuit would likely happen)...well, LIV tour sued PGA where PGA does not have enough money for long, drug out court battle...ultimately, they would lose. THUS....they (the pga tour, but really Jay Monahan), had to cave to LIV's lawsuit...and join forces (Which, again, NOT a LIV fan, but is something they should've done since the beginning...now, because of the joint venture, Jay's about to lose all of his power I think (or at least become a puppet for LIV financial backers) now that LIV has their hands in the pot so to speak...whereas, he probably could've kept all his power had he just been not as arrogant and worked with LIV from the start).
This is 100% on Jay Monahan for how poorly he handled it and those who solely back the PGA tour are going to feel the ripples of his work (Rory, for example, was asked to be the FACE of the PGA tour...and where did that get him?). Now you hear stories like Jay, even Tiger, going to SA to play golf with the prince over there...it's shameful.
https://www.golfwrx.com/707519/report-liv-golf-makes-drastic-changes-to-travel-expense-and-team-payout-distribution/
I’m sure they’re making drastic changes to operating cost and payout structure because they have too much money
$9 billion isn’t a lot, their first year operating cost alone was 3/4 of a billion and their first 14 events of the following year are expected to cost $1bil
https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/liv-golf-tour-saudi-pif-2023-costs-prize-money-team-sales-kevin-na/#:~:text=Next%20year's%2014%20events%20are,Saudi%20PIF%20US%241bn.&text=The%20first%20season%20of%20the,to%20Sports%20Illustrated%20(SI).
While I do agree that he dropped the ball, I think a lot of folks are acting like those greens weren’t nightmare material. The putt on 16 had a ridiculous amount of movement to it, and despite the good chip on 18 the commentators immediately said that he left that short putt in the worst possible position.
The commentators said he could putt the one on 18 at the center of the cup and still make it lol. He put it a cup width left and it still broke all the way to the right edge of the hole and out.
He played poorly on the same holes both Saturday and Sunday
There were a tonnnn of putts throughout the weekend he just missed by inches, just not his weekend, Bryson did his best to throw it away too lest we forget but bailed himself out with that incredible on from the 18th bunker
I felt sorry for him for chasing for so long. I am a huge fan of his. But after watching him choke on two 4’ putts to give it away, I’m just not sure he is mentally strong enough to win another.
Over in Australia, I got up at 8am and turned on coverage to see Rory one stroke up going into the 16th. Tuning in *just in time* to see that epic collapse was excruciating as a Rory fan.
As a casual golf fan that doesn’t always follow the tour, this was the first year I realized that this Pinehurst course has *ridiculously* sloped greens.
It was both fun and excruciating to watch otherwise wonderful shots fail to get over the hump and roll back 30 feet.
I’m just getting into golf and it was the first tournament I’ve really watched, also. I was way more excited at the end than I expected to be. And that course is nuts.
Watch next weekend for a stark contrast. The winning score will be in the neighborhood of -20 and the cut line will be a few strokes under par. It's been a great tournament the past few years and should be another great one this year as a signature event again
Yeah love that tournament. Have no connections to it or the area but I just love the golf course, hope I can find a way to play it one day
I have a difficult relationship with my grandfather and by far my favorite adult memory with him is when just the two of us were watching the legendary English/Hickock playoff in 2021 and he finally understood why Harris is my favorite golfer that's not a superstar
You got that right. I was able to get the ballpark pass since I can walk to the stadium from my apartment and Im at 16 games so far this year. Makes it bearable having such a great stadium
Nice, maybe we were neighbors! I was also walking distance at one point. Being able to bounce around from downtown to the north shore and the stadium was amazing. Such a fun city.
I was talking to my husband about the greens. He said all golf is hard, but there’s something about Pinehurst and especially #2 that’s just harder than all the others, and those greens are a big part of it.
That course was designed for one purpose: to be ridiculously hard. I have a friend that was an assistant pro at one of the other Pinehurst courses, and he said No2 is just ridiculous. It’s needlessly hard, and kind of a joke of a course.
Don't worry, Scottie said that he was surprised at the speed of the greens at Muirfield Village. As if he was completely blindsided by the fact it is Jack's personal playground and he wants it to play as fast as Augusta... but, nah. Tiger once was so shoved down our throats we forgot he is not the GOAT, will not be the GOAT, and should kindly bow out of tournaments.
TL;DR Most PGA courses are cushy because it is an entertainment and casual fans do not like seeing ridiculously fast greens or players having to literally chonk it 15 yards back into the fairway. US Open is as close as we get to actually making a course difficult for the best in the game.
Cringy no matter what but legally you should get three rounds of “U-S-A” to get others to join in. If you continue the chant BY YOURSELF a 4th and 5th and 6th time you are to be arrested.
Golf is an individual sport. This isn’t Team USA vs Team Ireland. Taunting an individual who is just representing himself for not being an American is in kind of shitty take. Not the end of the world, but no reason to kick a guy when he’s down like that.
They were yelling while he was about to attempt a huge fucking putt. Don’t know if you know golf, but that’s usually frowned upon. Might wanna do some research before you start yapping, although im guessing that’s kind of your thing huh?
My least favorite part about watching the UFC. Anytime it is an American vs. a non-American, those chants start up. For every fights. Even if the non-American is a much better person / exciting fighter. So stupid.
Glad to see others agree. This was the first time I’ve heard this chant in a situation like this and could not be more embarrassed.
Rory is one of the classiest guys in the league and fought for the PGA more than anyone. Dude deserved a standing ovation even though he came up short.
Makes so much sense that we're sending Wyndham Clark who has as many missed cuts as top 10s this year and is artificially inflated in the OWGR due to a fake 3-round win in February over the guy who just won the US Open to the Olympics
You mean the same Wyndham Clark who was also the defending U.S. Open Champion and came within a lip out of taking down Scheffler at the Players Championship?
Guy hasn't really played great the last few weeks but he isn't the chopped liver you are making him out to be
I agree that he isn't the one of the 4 best golfer at the moment but the Olympic qualification is a multi-year process....Wydham Clark has just as many major wins as Dechambeau in that time frame and several PGA Tour wins so implying that he is just some weekend hack is ignorant
He isn’t but Bryson is definitely in better form right now. I don’t think that’s even a question after last two majors. But Bryson also chose to go to LIV.
I'm not arguing that Dechambeau is in better form now but its clownish that the guy above is literally making the previous defending U.S. Open champion sound like a weekend hacker
This is Wyndham Clark. It's who he's always been. A middling pro who deserves his place on the tour but isn't elite. He had a hot streak, many guys do, that doesn't make him special. Jimmy Walker, Danny Willett, Gary Woodland, Webb Simpson, and many more have one major and a few career wins. Nobody calls them superstars. A house cat could tell you there's ten better American golfers than him who should be playing in the Olympics over him. The only reason he has a win this year is the tour took away Aberg's chance to beat him
The biggest reason I can't stand the guy is his comment about how the PGA Tour should only have 100 members. He *would not be one of them* if that was how it worked. That level of selfish and tone deaf thinking in the most meritocratic sport in the world doesn't jive with me
God they need more energetic announcers. This is the winning moment, how do you have 0 care or passion in your voice. Time for someone who gets excited watching the sport.
Yeah, they kept talking about how Bryson wasn’t gonna keep getting away with “lucky” lies off his “silly” drives. Well, guess what? He got away with it
It was funny when this was being parroted when he was nestled up against the wire grass with an almost impossible lie. Which he of course still made par on.
It's been all of three years since Rahm won it and two years since Fitzpatrick did, not even close to a true statement my man
It's not nationality it's Bryson playing for LIV is why they cheered for Rory
Ragging on Europe is great haha but Rory being unable to close majors in his 30s and an American winning the US open is not a reason to do that
Let's make fun of Jon Rahm for going from best golfer in the world to afterthought who sat out the best tournament in the world because he stubbed his toe in six months if we want to make fun of them :p
Possibly because Bryson is a [scum](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/other-sports/american-sports/bryson-dechambeau-liv-golf-911-30202779.amp) [bag](https://www.freep.com/story/sports/golf/2020/07/05/bryson-dechambeau-cameraman-rocket-mortgage-classic-detroit-pga-tour/5380214002/). I’d be lackluster about his win if I was an announcer too.
Patrick Reed must start spending his time saving puppies and sick kids and winning more majors and buying Scotty's for his college teammates and he can take the title
I think with Bryson, people realized over time that the controversial things he said or did can all be attributed to his passion for the game, his confidence in his abilities, and him looking out for himself. He doesn’t intend to bring others down the way some other controversial athletes do.
He’s just a big golf nerd who knows he’s good and wants to make money.
Sadly, Greg Norman has that by a long shot. I think it was 1986 where he had the lead after three rounds in all four majors - no wins. He also lost another US Open to Zoeller in a playoff. Then there was the Mize chip at the Masters in 87. The drop of the six shot lead at Augusta to Faldo. He's won the British Open twice, but he is better known for all of the majors he's lost.
Edit: just saw the "rn". Whoops. I'm just going to pretend that you said "of all time".
I feel bad for Finau. That shot lands a foot to the right on 13 on Saturday, he's putting for birdie instead of chasing the ball back and forth for a triple. Winds up at -4 today, could've definitely been in the hunt.
I feel like most players had situations like this though - well struck approaches that missed by a foot or two and cost them strokes. Rory hit a great shot into the par five that ended up in a bad spot. Just how the course was playing.
As a YouTube golf watching type person, it’s been entertaining watching Bryson do the rounds with every popular golf personality. He really is one of the best in the world. Yes, I know he plays on the LIV golf tour. His talent is amazing and he’s been entertaining. The PGA purists will hate this post.
He was in the top 5 players that LIV poached. If it was just Mickelson LIV wouldn’t have amounted to anything. Him, Koepka and a few others made it an actual thing. They do not deserve to lose this asterisk to their legacy, especially not so soon.
I like Bryson, I’m glad he won. The LIV thing was definitely a bad move, I don’t know how someone would look back at his career and not see it as a black mark. Same with Phil, it’s a stain on their legacies.
Such a ridiculous take. Not a black mark on Bryson’s career even in the slightest. Dude has 2 majors.
And, the head of the PGA is now knowingly in bed with the Saudis. We were all played for fools and none of the drama actually mattered.
The bunker shot to put him right there was incredible, that weird distance between far and short from the bunker has to be one of the hardest golf shots
I’ve never really watched golf besides watching for Tiger over the years but I’ve been watching the events this year for some reason, couldn’t tell you why but I’m captivated by it and Bryson is a big reason why. This guy is pretty fun to watch and I can say he’s pulled me into paying attention.
Such a terrible take. Bryson has been talking about how special this week has been due to Payne Stewart for days now. I would bet a lot of money that a LIV guy beating a PGA guy was the last thing on his mind during that celebration.
Nobody thinks about Payne Stewart? Seriously? Mine a lot of people consider him one of their favorite golfers of all time.
Bryson has become more of a fan favorite because of his YouTube channel and other acts of kindness he’s shown at the last two majors.
It’s okay if you don’t like the guy but what did he do to hurt you?
No that’s a rumor that was spread. Nobody knows the details of their marriage though so who knows. The main thing to me is he isn’t working for the Saudis like Dechambeau

The two short putts that Rory missed are going to haunt him forever.
He has plenty of scar tissue but yeah, those were bad.
Hate to see it, but he will not be sleeping well tonight. I feel for him.
He won a measly 2.32 million. Yeah I seriously doubt it lol
Rory’s net worth is estimated to be over 200 million. Not that he wouldn’t miss a couple million more but he’s probably way more upset about his winning a major drought.
All time choke job…. All time
One of us! One of us!
nah phil mickelsons double triple bogeys when he was leading the masters will always be the all time choke job.
Jean Van de Velde would like a word
As would Greg Norman 🦈
Adam Scott would like a word.
I mean not really The day before he played poorly on the exact same holes Bryson just hit an incredible on from the bunker to save the win
They would eat away at me and I’m only playing $20 games with my buddies
Look at mr rich pants over here

Greg Normanesque
Honestly, they both missed easy putts down the stretch. For a while, it looked like neither of them wanted to win it.
Bryson missed one too. Those greens are so hard.
Good. Choke artist.
Rory really let himself down on those last few holes, hasn't missed a 3ft put all season and missed two with a couple of holes couldn't write it.
Maybe not this season, but his putting is the reason he’s gone through so much shit the past decade
While I do agree that he dropped the ball, I think a lot of folks are acting like those greens weren’t nightmare material. I love how 40-50 handicap mini golfers are sitting here calling a guy who shot 5 under through four days of a nightmare course a choke artist
He played poorly on the same holes both Saturday and Sunday There were a tonnnn of putts throughout the weekend he just missed by inches, just not his weekend, Bryson did his best to throw it away too lest we forget but bailed himself out with that incredible on from the 18th bunker
My poor sweet Rory

Dudes wife threatened to ruin him because she wants the money; not the man. I’d be fucked up too
Source on this? Not disagreeing, just curious on the details.
I think they just pulled it out of their ass
Over in Australia, I got up at 8am and turned on coverage to see Rory one stroke up going into the 16th. Tuning in *just in time* to see that epic collapse was excruciating as a Rory fan.

The Travelers is always fire
Fun and excruciating to watch is the same way I’ve described this pirates season to people.
More like every season. At least tickets are cheap, I’ve never had a bad time at PNC park.
You got that right. I was able to get the ballpark pass since I can walk to the stadium from my apartment and Im at 16 games so far this year. Makes it bearable having such a great stadium

McIlroy fans on suicide watch. Those missed putts were brutal
The guys chanting “USA” after Rory missed the putt on 18 was soo cringy.
It also went on awkwardly long. Like well after I expected them to cut it out

Chant U-S-A too few times? Believe it or not, also jail.
Probably my in laws.
I’m not a fan of Rory, i very much wanted BD to win, I too thought that was crazy cringe. Stupid drunk frat boys.
Fucking assholes are the reason the world laughs at us on the daily. So goddamn cringe, zero class from those dudes.

You don’t think shouting your country’s name at a foreigner for messing up their shot is patriotism, do you really?

I can only imagine what kinda USA they are cheering for.
Probably the one where the guy from the US wins the US open over the guy not from US
They wanted an American to win the US open. Not everyone thinks about politics 24/7.
That's a good observation that I overlooked just based on the fact that Bryson has openly expressed his political views while competing.

Ah, you've enlightened me! I am now less of a dumbass.

God they need more energetic announcers. This is the winning moment, how do you have 0 care or passion in your voice. Time for someone who gets excited watching the sport.
This commentary team wanted Rory to win so bad they couldn't hide it!
Lol it was quite obvious.
At one point they were like, “the fans on the course are behind Bryson but THE WORLD is behind Rorry”
Yeah, they kept talking about how Bryson wasn’t gonna keep getting away with “lucky” lies off his “silly” drives. Well, guess what? He got away with it
The silly boy got away with it!!
It was funny when this was being parroted when he was nestled up against the wire grass with an almost impossible lie. Which he of course still made par on.
They're not going to cheer on somebody from the LIV tour.
Well they should get over themselves or get new announcers. This is a major, not a PGA tour stop.
Broadcast was pretty miserable all day, honestly. They clearly wanted Rory to win, and cut to commercial at some pretty dumb times
NBC is a joke outside NFL football
This isn’t the American announce team. The commentators are just depressed because a European hasn’t won the US Open in a while.
It's been all of three years since Rahm won it and two years since Fitzpatrick did, not even close to a true statement my man It's not nationality it's Bryson playing for LIV is why they cheered for Rory
Hey now, let’s not let facts get in the way of ragging on Europe.
Ragging on Europe is great haha but Rory being unable to close majors in his 30s and an American winning the US open is not a reason to do that Let's make fun of Jon Rahm for going from best golfer in the world to afterthought who sat out the best tournament in the world because he stubbed his toe in six months if we want to make fun of them :p
Has anyone done a bigger 180° popularity wise than Bryson?
OJ Simpson?
Technically correct is still correct
It may be the best kind of correct!
Patrick Reed must start spending his time saving puppies and sick kids and winning more majors and buying Scotty's for his college teammates and he can take the title
Dude could cure cancer and I would still think he's a garbage human being.
It doesn't take much to realize the guy is a huge dick. People tell you who they are. Believe them.
If you watch his YouTube you’ll realize how corny this dude is. Unbearable.
So glad he overcame the name Bryson
r/tragedeigh
The US Open and Pinehurst won. Nothing given today. Tough loss for Rory and tough win for Bryson.
Is Rory the biggest choker rn in golf?
Sadly, Greg Norman has that by a long shot. I think it was 1986 where he had the lead after three rounds in all four majors - no wins. He also lost another US Open to Zoeller in a playoff. Then there was the Mize chip at the Masters in 87. The drop of the six shot lead at Augusta to Faldo. He's won the British Open twice, but he is better known for all of the majors he's lost. Edit: just saw the "rn". Whoops. I'm just going to pretend that you said "of all time".
It's him or Cantlay but likely him since he actually has major championship success
My brother once lost a bet on him and has called him "Patrick Cantplay" ever since lmao
Agreed. 2021 was fake. Memorial was Rahm's and the only reason he won the FEC is that shit. I don't do political bullshit = champion sports
What a choke job by Rory
Next YouTube video about to go crazy
Season 3 of full swing is gonna be wild
1. Bryson is better at golf than me. 2. I wish Bryson had different allegiances.
Honestly, why do you care? What does allegiance to the PGA accomplish for you?
Not being aligned with Saudi money? Not that the PGA and US are perfect but plenty of people are turned off by helping with Saudi sportswashing.
The head of PGA already cut a deal with Saudis, wtf are you even talking about?
Rory choked
Again
That name plus golf equals whitest thing ever
Bryson did what he had to, Rory did not. That will be hard to top as one of the greatest choke jobs
Where was he on January 6?
Hate this guy
Man was locked in, left arm and all.
Me 2 seconds before this “yeah he’ll miss it”
The bunker shot to put him right there was incredible, that weird distance between far and short from the bunker has to be one of the hardest golf shots
If you don’t know shit about golf(like me) this looks like a bunch of needless celebration 😂.
I mean..so what? Even I could have made that put. /s
That’s it? I could have knock that in too
What a G. Awesome display of talent.
Booooo
I’ve never really watched golf besides watching for Tiger over the years but I’ve been watching the events this year for some reason, couldn’t tell you why but I’m captivated by it and Bryson is a big reason why. This guy is pretty fun to watch and I can say he’s pulled me into paying attention.
Bryson is building a brand. That was a business success celebration for bigger things for his business… and life. Love the intensity in this celly
Bryson is saving golf
He truly feels like the only person who is pushing the game to new limits. Love watching him play.
Right, cuz Scheffler’s had a terrible run so far eh
Pretty traditional player and some courses he can’t adapt his game to as well. Showed this week with his frustrations.
If that’s the criteria what’s the excuse for why Bryson can’t play Augusta. He should dominate there with his length
He finished 6th so its not like he did bad
And 10 shots off the lead. That was also his best finish at Augusta
Because Augusta demands more shot shaping which I believe Scottie is superior than Bryson at. Bryson very rarely hits a fade intentionally.
Looks like a wife beater
Atta boy!

The irony of cheering USA by the people at the end….

Of course a LIV guy won. I wanted someone with morals like Rory to win.
Isn’t he cheating on his wife?
No that’s a rumor that was spread. Nobody knows the details of their marriage though so who knows. The main thing to me is he isn’t working for the Saudis like Dechambeau
Dude was in jail but had bail money on the spot. Cash.
Bad people entertaining worse people.
Nice. Stop watching them.
This is such a silly sport
Watching rich white men get richer is not really my idea of a fun afternoon of television
Pro tip: don’t suck
