The consecutive record spanning more than one season is 12. So if she wants to stand completely alone she needs to get it to there.
She's also chasing the most double double total in a season which is 22. She's currently at 11 and has 23 games to go. She's played 17.
The NBA has multiple double-double records, including most career double-doubles, most double-doubles in a season, and most consecutive double-doubles:
Most career double-doubles: Wilt Chamberlain holds the record with 968.
Most double-doubles in a season: As of April 2024, Domantas Sabonis holds the record with 73 double-doubles in the 2023–24 season, breaking Hakeem Olajuwon's record of 72 in 1992–93.
Most consecutive double-doubles: Chamberlain also holds the record for most consecutive double-doubles with 227. As of March 2024, Sabonis' 54 consecutive double-doubles was the longest streak since the NBA-ABA merger, surpassing Kevin Love's 53 in 2011.
—
This is pretty unimpressive from the wnba
WNBA games are 8 minutes shorter, making it harder to rack up there kinda of stats. Sabonis likely wouldn't have as many double doubles if he essentially never played in 4th quarters
Games are 8 minutes shorter, season is half the amount of games, league is 50 years younger, and professional women’s basketball in general is only now catching on and becoming popular due to this draft class.
It makes a lot of sense why some of these records are what they are, and they’re almost assuredly going to be broken within the next few years.
>lol, the record is still only 10
Pace used to be 60something possessions per game just 20 years ago.
Imagine how much shorter the RBI streak record would be if baseball games went 6 innings instead of 9.
Is your point that the talent level is lower than the NBA? Yeah, no shit. People watch college football when the NFL exists. Or watch Ligue 1 when the Premier League exists. Some people enjoy a sport, even if it's played at at a lower level than another league in the same sport. You don't have to default to misogyny.
Gender plays a huge part in it no? Are there better women's basketball leagues in the world? They are literally the most talented and probably most athletic basketball players around.
Less possessions per game vs the NBA. This makes it more difficult to get both the points and rebounds for the double double. The men's and women's game are different. It's like comparing wilt's records to the modern NBA.
That can't be true at all. The article references Candace Parker's streak of nine consecutive double-double games in 2015, and obviously she'd been in the league for years at that point. Perhaps you read a phrase like "single-season record for consecutive games with a double-double" and misinterpreted that as "record for double-doubles by someone with a single season in the league"?
Same reason there have been under 50 dunks and single digit dunkers in the entire history of the league
Keep downvoting easily researchable stats Reddit!
Someone in the WNBA sub last week analyzed all of her rebounds and provided the stats on it. Her rebounding of her own shots was something like 35% iirc, which was in line with other top rebounders in the league.
Rebounding your own shot is a *good* thing. That said only 5 of 16 rebounds were offensive boards today.
She was 4/16 because she was facing the top defense in the league who were double and triple teaming her all game and the refs weren't calling fouls across the board. The refs not calling fouls made for a *very* physical game, with a lot of players taking hard hits and not getting a whistle. It also means she only went to the line twice when she usually gets there 5-6 times a game. FTAs for both teams were low and as a consequence both teams shot under 40%.
So she still managed to pull a double-double today despite being intensely defended by the league's best defense *and* a stingy whistle. It was her 10th in a row.
edit: Gotta love an accurate description of today's game backed by stats is one of my most downvoted comments ever. Also ignores the other 9 games in the streak where she shot significantly better. lmao. People in this sub *really* cling to their fake narratives.
She's been at 46% during the double-double streak. Her season shooting is down because she had a cold start. A'ja Wilson who is the MVP front runner and also works in the paint is at 51%. So she's been decent. Could be better, but certainly not bad.
Either way, she still set the league record for most consecutive double doubles in a season as a rookie. And she's clearly on an upward trajectory.
Also I find it funny that people forget that these girls are rookies and had a couple of weeks rest from a deep college playoff run into the debut of their professional careers. It makes sense they don’t have lights out starts. Asking any athlete to do that is insane.
Yet she's breaking and chasing records set by vets. She's also learned to shoot again since losing her vertical due to a metal rod having to be put in her leg.
Because people are unimpressed with a 25% shooting line and the attention this player is getting.
Many think she’s mediocre and nothing special. Just a heel
Good thing this wasn't the only game in a 10 game streak. These people don't know basketball and just hate her for non-basketball reasons. Calling a league record "mediocre" is a delusional take and proves that point.
Good on you for knowing the WNBA and giving actual analysis. r/sports *hates* Angel Reese and will always look for reasons to hate her and downvote any positive comments about her.
Offensive rebounds are literally scoring opportunities on their own. She’s not a shooter: she’s a paint dominant player that excels at improving a given possession. If getting your own misses was easy, then many more players down-low would be racking up double doubles.
I swear the majority of commenters flooding women’s basketball forums are unaware of anything outside of scoring totals and perimeter shooting. It’s bizarre.
The stat about rookies not even averaging 2 assists per game told me more about why I probably don't care for the sport
And that this stat was in a game she shot for 25%
WNBA games are much shorter than NBA games. Makes it harder to get double doubles. It’s a fare more impressive feat to achieve in the WNBA than it is in the NBA.
Isn’t the difference 8 minutes? 10 minute quarters as opposed to 12 in the NBA? I’m curious how stats compare on a per minute basis. I guess the NBA is technically playing 20% longer but I don’t feel like double doubles would be that hard even if the NBA were to play 10 minute quarters.
The European leagues play 10 minute quarters too. In all of Europe, Mirsad Turkcan has the record for 50 TOTAL double doubles in a career. That’s over the course of a 10 year career. That’s 5 a season.
So you’re incredibly incorrect. 20% less game time severely limits the ability to get double doubles.
A good way to look at it, but I'm too lazy, how many NBA players got consecutive double-doubles discounting the last 20 minutes of the game? I mean, if we found that like 90% of double-double's come in the last 10 minutes of play, that would make perfect sense.
The Euroleague also shoots a much better percentage from the field on average than the WNBA while having a slower pace. So there's more than just minutes played that factor into that. Also, double doubles are rarer in Euroleague than the WNBA in general. Sylvia Fowles (who I'm surprised doesn't have the consecutive double double record, her or Tina Charles) has more double doubles than the top five career double double getters in EL history combined.
And that "10 year career" was only 129 games played within the confines of the Euroleague, so he had a double double in almost half of his career EL games. Not all of Europe, just Euroleague
None of these losers talking about the women’s game can do anything but pull up from 15 with a torn hamstring muscle. Any one of the players from the bench would have them looking like a fool on the court.
But alas Redditers aren’t known for athletic agility but all they have is tough talk from behind keyboards🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s what I was saying!!! If it was CC there would be non stop slurping that woman. But it’s not their savior and all of a sudden “wimminz bad at sports herdurrr” 🙄
If this was CC you'd be seeing people calling for a goddamn parade, a national holiday, and for the olympic selection committee to be publicly flogged.
They both get weird, negative, slightly racially loaded animosity thrown their way.
Trying to pretend they're treated especially different just makes me think you probably treat them differently.
I bet you'd give credit to one but not the other for doing the exact same thing if you think like this.
They’ve done the math on the wnba sub and it was something like .97 a game or something? Which if you removed still has her first in Orebs and top 5 in rebounds period. She had 3 last game I think but 11 defensive boards.
Someone else in this thread said it’s 33% of her rebounds (so, at least 3-4 a game).
https://www.reddit.com/r/sports/s/HTubgmhXgg
If true, that’s impressive.
Except you wouldn’t count her total boards just Orebs. Which means of her 4.8 a game 1.68 are her own misses. Putting her first or second depending on how you want to round
Somehow I quoted that comment wrong, they said 35% not 33%.
Looking up [the wnba thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/wnba/comments/1dkttaq/no_most_of_angel_reeses_rebounds_are_not_from/) 35% is, in fact, the percentage of her total rebounds that were her own missed shots but **only in her first two games in the WNBA**. That's probably where the "Reese gets a lot of rebounds because she's always missing easy layups" idea came from.
She's improved significantly and the average across all games this season is now just 16% according to the same thread.
lol I love people here shitting on her. Meanwhile if this was CC doing the exact same thing they would be using it evidence she’s the best player in the league.
From every highlight I've seen she'll get there because she's guaranteed at least 10 rebounds per game due to the fact that she can't hit a lay up first try to save her life.
The facts are here if you are interested. 16% off her own misses which gives her team back a possession which in any basketball I watch is a good thing.
If a certain player got the record over Angel Reese it wouldn’t be as downplayed as it’s here in the comments. But since it’s NOT her now it’s like the players have zero talent. Hmm, I wonder what it could be 🤣
Say her name, because she is the ONLY reason anyone outside of gambling degenerates care about the sport.
You should make more butthurt comments though, I’m sure that will change it! lol
That’s not true, I know plenty of people that are casual WNBA fans. Nothing crazy like watching every game, but going to a good amount of them, keeping up with the scores, etc. I even know someone that has season tickets. All of this was happening before CC was even big.
Caitlin Clark don’t have the record and ain’t going to be ROTY. Yall salty, yall MAD!!! But keep watching the games this is an excellent moment in women’s sports though.

Thats crazy that 10 is the record, I wonder what she'll be able to get it to

By that math she’s on pace for another 14.
she actually has 12. She got 1 and then 3 games later started her current streak

They dont care, redditors love shi*ing on women because it makes them feel warm.
How has the league been around almost 30 years and no one has had a streak longer than 10 of double doubles…
Do you have to ask?
15% fewer possessions per game adds up to far fewer rebound and assist opportunities, and it only recently reached that pace level.
lol, the record is still only 10
>lol, the record is still only 10 Pace used to be 60something possessions per game just 20 years ago. Imagine how much shorter the RBI streak record would be if baseball games went 6 innings instead of 9.

40 minute games matter.
Yeah, THAT’S why.

lol regardless of gender the talent and athleticism is not on the same level.
Gender plays a huge part in it no? Are there better women's basketball leagues in the world? They are literally the most talented and probably most athletic basketball players around.
Why does it matter how long the game is? Can't she still play the normal 35 a game?
Less possessions per game vs the NBA. This makes it more difficult to get both the points and rebounds for the double double. The men's and women's game are different. It's like comparing wilt's records to the modern NBA.
Oh for sure, that part makes sense. That's not what I was responding to though
The stat is for a person with just a single season in the game. Not across the whole league’s history. Impressive as hell for a rookie.
Huh? It’s the all time single season record. She passed the rookie record a few games ago. It is a pretty surprisingly low number.
yep, i was wrong. I misinterpreted the article
That can't be true at all. The article references Candace Parker's streak of nine consecutive double-double games in 2015, and obviously she'd been in the league for years at that point. Perhaps you read a phrase like "single-season record for consecutive games with a double-double" and misinterpreted that as "record for double-doubles by someone with a single season in the league"?
yep! That was my mistake!
You’re getting downvoted for the truth. Everyone is but hey? 🤷🏾♀️
It's a welfare league
Weird how this sentiment isn't bought up in Caitlin posts.
Same reason there have been under 50 dunks and single digit dunkers in the entire history of the league Keep downvoting easily researchable stats Reddit!
What about consecutive double dribbles?
Ba dum tss 😂😂😂😂
*slow clap*
How many of the rebounds were her own shots she missed, though? She was 4/16 today.
Someone in the WNBA sub last week analyzed all of her rebounds and provided the stats on it. Her rebounding of her own shots was something like 35% iirc, which was in line with other top rebounders in the league.
That is the wrong figure
that’s the Moses Malone strategy
Who was the guy in the NBA that bricked his own layup on a breakaway at the end of a game to get a triple double?
Ricky Davis?
Bob Sura? He was going for three consecutive triple doubles and was just missing the last rebound until the NBA office took it away from him
That might be the one! I just remember it was a white dude with bleached hair or something?
That’s Bobby
Anyone who says she’s above average is not a serious person.
Anyone that claims she “ain’t shit” like the lurkers in here also aren’t serious people.

She’s a 40% shooter as a post player. I can’t imagine that is a good % for a post player in the league

It's the Cult of Caitlin Clark at work. Tis a silly bunch.
For sure. They won’t admit it but it’s become quite the cult
Good thing this wasn't the only game in a 10 game streak. These people don't know basketball and just hate her for non-basketball reasons. Calling a league record "mediocre" is a delusional take and proves that point.
And still outplaying pretty much everyone else. That is what matters, remind yourself that shes not in the NBA
Not sure why you’re getting hate. Rebounding your own shot is great.
The Cult of Caitlin Clark at work.
For sure. This is so weird. Both players are good.
People forget about following your own shot and just sit around staring at their participation trophies.
Because it's not actually about basketball. A new league-wide record being set in any league shouldn't be at 62% either, but here we are.
Good on you for knowing the WNBA and giving actual analysis. r/sports *hates* Angel Reese and will always look for reasons to hate her and downvote any positive comments about her.

Well her FG% is 40% which, is under the leage average. I'm amazed people arnt accusing her of Stat padding.
The double double record being 10 consecutive games is so unserious.

Not gonna drag myself down to argue such idiotic takes, but agree to disagree lol.
Reese would be 6th in the NBA in rebounds per 100 possessions. Tied with Gobert and just ahead of Sabonis.
How can it be a record and unserious at the same time?
Did something in only 16 career games that only one other player has done in entire careers.
Easy to do when you're getting your own rebounds lmao
[удалено]
Luka's mutant powers that allow him to control a basketball in mid-air make this a little unfair.
I haven't seen what the actual percentage of self rebounds are, but I am really curious. Also, how van a self rebound count?
Like 40% and majority of her shots are within like 3-4 feet. That’s just sad
This is a lie. Repeated by new fans that don't even know what they are watching
She's lady Dennis Rodman without Jordan and Pippin to keep her out of trouble.
Rodman shot 52% and can actually block shots. Reese ain't no Rodman. Not even close.
lol when the WNBA is so boring that they have to hype up double doubles…
Imagine double-doubles being news worthy...
I'm really only impressed by double doubles at Tim Hortons anyway
It's incredible how bad WNBA was lmao
Was?
This statistical fool’s gold. Not really that impressive.
If it was easy to get your own rebounds all the time every player would do it, bunch of clown comments in here
None of these losers talking about the women’s game can do anything but pull up from 15 with a torn hamstring muscle. comments are weird as hell in here. Would it be the same energy if cc was the one that broke this?
That’s what I was saying!!! If it was CC there would be non stop slurping that woman. But it’s not their savior and all of a sudden “wimminz bad at sports herdurrr” 🙄
no, it definitely wouldn’t lol.
For real, she broke a league wide record as a rookie, that’s impressive as hell. Good for her
If this thread was about cc, the comments here would mostly be a bunch of racist gibberish about how all the black girls are jealous or something
If this was CC you'd be seeing people calling for a goddamn parade, a national holiday, and for the olympic selection committee to be publicly flogged.
People in here spreading lies about rebounding own misses yet I see praise about cc assists although she is almost 1 to 1 turnover ratio.
They both get weird, negative, slightly racially loaded animosity thrown their way. Trying to pretend they're treated especially different just makes me think you probably treat them differently. I bet you'd give credit to one but not the other for doing the exact same thing if you think like this.
Angel has been called dirty... as in doesn't bathe and a jungle bunny. Gtfoh with your both sides
Her efficiency as a big/post player is atrocious
All she has to do is keep catching rebounds of her own missed layups, then making the next.
I always love whenever the WNBA is posted a bunch of insecure dudes rush here to tell everyone about how they totally don't care about the league
I love that too lmao it's so funny
I would love to see a stat of how many rebounds are her own misses.
They’ve done the math on the wnba sub and it was something like .97 a game or something? Which if you removed still has her first in Orebs and top 5 in rebounds period. She had 3 last game I think but 11 defensive boards.

lol I love people here shitting on her. Meanwhile if this was CC doing the exact same thing they would be using it evidence she’s the best player in the league.
Surely they mean double dribbles?
Nobody cares
From every highlight I've seen she'll get there because she's guaranteed at least 10 rebounds per game due to the fact that she can't hit a lay up first try to save her life.
The facts are here if you are interested. 16% off her own misses which gives her team back a possession which in any basketball I watch is a good thing.
Didn't know they kept track of cheeseburgers eaten.
This is lit. 2024 rookie class has me hella invested.
Go ahead and ban me. Putting back up her own shots merchant. Her PR org is going hard to make it look like people think she’s good.
16% . Which is 100% better than these lies you spreading
Does anyone really care?? The WNBA is still awful to watch and this new class is not going to move the needle.
WTF are you talking about? Won’t move the needle? The needle is currently in orbit.
No... it's just being pushed super hard rn
Then why are you here?
Nice! Congrats Angel Reese!
Shocked the record is so low. No reason she shouldn't be able to fairly easily do this every game
Oh the CC hater.
Rent free Angel does not care about her
Dunno, seems like CC lives rent free in CC-haters head. Whats that haters name again?
And that’s why she commands $7,000 a year. But is having this minor talent worth being so unattractive? That’s for the fan to decide.
Ngl alot of racism in this thread. You guys are outing yourselves. And I'm black and do agree CC is better but holy shit the hate in here.
She's still a whiner.
If a certain player got the record over Angel Reese it wouldn’t be as downplayed as it’s here in the comments. But since it’s NOT her now it’s like the players have zero talent. Hmm, I wonder what it could be 🤣

CAITLIN “GETTING HER 💩 WRECKED” CLARK IS HER NAME! 😭 if YOU are new to the WNBA just say that.
