Whether something is hard or easy is subjective. However, from my experience, I can tell you two things: 1. Just because you got an A in Maths in your O/Ls, it doesn't mean you'll get an A in your A/Ls. The two are like අහසයි, කිරිහොදියි. 2. Don't fall for that crap "මැත්ස් කරලා ෆේල් උනත් ජොබ් හොයාගන්න ලේසියි නේ". That is total BS.

TubeMan_ClassicalK

I'm aware of these two things you've mentioned, that's why I wanna know if it suits my capabilities

From O/L Grade maths prize to a barely C pass in AL combined maths. And yes if you miss a part in the syllabus, you can barely catch up. I did a project during ALs which took about 2 months of my time. Never really recovered. But a guy who was an average student in OLs, scored an AL island rank. It's all about the effort you put in.

TubeMan_ClassicalK

Thanks, this helps

NoDivide2971

No offense get out of O/L mentality first. It is not a serious examination. Secondly the most important thing about A/L is do not compare yourself with others. Your journey is your own and nobody else. Your timetable on studying depends on how well you grasp the material.

TubeMan_ClassicalK

So I gotta try it out to find out if I'm capable of doing those subjects?

gradfeb24

after doing ALs what is your plan. if you are doing maths you need the commitment along with it. I know who got A for OL failed in AL maths and people who got C for ol passed it and enterted uni. It depends on the effeort your are willing to put in

TubeMan_ClassicalK

My plans are to go forward with the ICT industry, I'm specifically interested in Cyber Security and AI. And I know it needs a good effort but haven't got a clue how much the effort level is!? I need to know the types of people with the level of effort they put and the result they got with examples (like how many hours they studied, what was their commitment lvl on o/l s and how it changed in the a/l s) so I can compare myself and make a good decision

TubeMan_ClassicalK

Btw I think I'd have the capability to get a good result for ICT, what I wanna know about is physics and combined maths since people say those two are really hard

gradfeb24

you need to commit atleast 3-4 hours a day if you need a good results. If you are looking forward a career in IT industry you could do commerece as well and choose ict instead of econ . or start the degree without al doing foundation

TubeMan_ClassicalK

I didn't do commerce in the o/l s and I don't have much of an interest in the subjects in commerce stream :3 Foundation is a good idea but ky parents won't allow me

gradfeb24

you could do arts stream as well. Same happened with me where my parents insisted me to do AL but i feel its waste of time if you are not planning to enter local uni

[deleted]

If you really want to do Maths, go for it. By the end of the first term do a self reflection and see whether you have what it takes to get a good result (trust me you will know). If you feel like it’s not your thing, you can change streams as I know. I have friends who moved to Commerce from Maths and got into good uni’s.

Thanks bro

I was an average student at O/L, 1.Combined maths is it hard? Yes, Is it too tough? No. Start a study routine (from the first day onwards, start with something like 30 minutes a day just for revising that's enough at start, then slowly increase if needed). 2. In the beginning especially when the Trigonometry unit is finished try do do as many questions you can find as possible. Some question may take some hours to find the answer for it's worth it for you will be slowly getting the ability of problem solving which is necessary through out your A/L. Just update whatever you study everyday and you can get an A with Determination. Yes, it's kind of true, I myself missed some and getting the actual knowledge of what got teached by just looking at notes could be real hard during middle phases so it's important not to miss a part. If you can manage the studies and routines no need to worry.(But could be tough, varies person to person)
