The funniest reaction I ever saw was when my MIL brought her dog over and my one cat starting walking into the room, saw the dog, and then just did the cat equivalent of “nope!” and just turned around and walked back into the bedroom! No pause, no hissing, didn’t even run!
I laughed for a good 5 minutes and am sad I didn’t get that on video!
Give your cat lots of perches out of reach of the dog, and plenty of space away from the dog and time. Cats need time and patience to deal with changes. Good luck with the new blended family!
