man_in_blak

I bet it's one of those stations that sources local meat products for resale or consignment. They're all over the place in Southern Louisiana, usually pretty good stuff.

coffeymp

Some of those gas stations have the best boudin.

GatorDontPlayNoShhit

Annd cracklins, in a recently translucent paper bag!

man_in_blak

If you can't see through the bag, they ain't right!

Solnse

Colonel Sanders started KFC in a [Shell gas station. ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KFC#:~:text=In%201930%2C%20Sanders%20took%20over,as%20steaks%20and%20country%20ham.)

gert_beefrobe

smoke boudin. my fav gas station vittle

Milton__Obote

Boudin balls, fried chicken, gumbo, etc all good Louisiana gas station eats

man_in_blak

U got that right

rdldr1

I would totally buy this. But who buys a steak when they are on a road trip? Hopefully this community gas station.

Ah_Pook

If I were camping, that'd be an awesome find.

More_Shoulder5634

Semi-related. I've got a single uncle who works in West Texas on oil fields driving equipment around. He comes up around Tulsa to visit the family every once in a while. Anyhoo he apparently keeps quality steaks in an ice chest in back of his truck. As in he lives his day to day life with 6-10 ribeyes marinating within arms reach. He is a very wise man

Gardez_geekin

It’s been over a decade since I had gas station boudin in Louisiana and I think about it all the time.

DerLyndis

Boiled peanuts as well

ClintEastwoodsNext

Yes, but is it authentic boudin rouge? /s

2a_dude

Jerry Lee’s looks like a gas station. Best boudin.

SpiritFingersKitty

Some of the best steak I've ever had, but also some of the biggest trash I've ever had

Zozorrr

Yea - I’ve had some taste liverish.

NoJudge4776

You know it brotha!

rideincircles

This looks like Buc-ee's. It's a gas station the size of a grocery store.

Quartznonyx

Hey I'm in south LA rn. Can you lmk what to look out for? I haven't noticed any meat freezers in gas stations.

turner3210

Man the Pakistani dudes that been taking over have been bringing this more and more to the area! You’ll walk up in one the little joints and Armani has a basket of fuckin eggs up on the counter like “Helllooooo brother you need eggs for work ha ha ha?”

ButteredPizza69420

I bet its some gooood shit

fryerandice

We got those all over my part of PA, the local beef farmers have steaks in all kinds of weird places. I dunno who's out there smoking turkey breasts and cutting it 1/4" thick near me, and then putting it between deli rolls from the local bakery and wrapping them in saran wrap and distributing them to every small town gas station in a 20 mile radius of me, but they're doing god's work.

airbourneScarecrow

Definitely beats the questionable meat I see at my little market stop down the road from my house lol, I'd buy those in a heartbeat

halachite

we love beating the meat in this sub

[deleted]

Shhhh, I'm almost there.

sikkdog13

No no, keep talking. It's helping.

Purp1eC0bras

SHAZZAM!!!!!

Thorkell23

This post makes me want to beat my meat.

Flinty984

dead but fresh sometimes still warm

BudKnightLime

Better and cheaper than any steak from a Safeway in Boulder CO haha

BoomerSoonerFUT

Safeway and King Soopers both suck. We’ve stuck to Whole Foods for meat.

SnootsAndBootsLLP

Same here. I got lucky at safeway once and got a decent bit, but WF is much more consistent. KS just sucks.

rdldr1

“Beef”

Mywifefoundmymain

Yeah it’s probably a local farm

raj6126

Yeah the smart farmers work local deals

rgbearklls

Shoutout to OP’s gas station

rgbearklls

If you read the Ingredients it says ‘beef fat’. Wtf was I expecting, human fat??

GardenDrummer

Those are in the back. You have to ask for them, though.

formerhugeNsyncfan

That's not just any gas station, that's a Buccees.

pah2000

Correction that’s The Texan. We just got one down here.

pah2000

I’ve never been. I gotta check this out!

BrendenU7

Yea it was the texan I wish there was one near me in houston. Makes me wonder if bucces do carry steaks like this I'm gonna start checking every big gas station branch I go to.

Cgarr82

The Bucees location south of Atlanta has steak, stuffed pork tenderloins, and all sorts of other meat in the back next to the jerky counter.

diamond830w

Schulenburg? If I’m not mistaken they get all their beef from Glen’s in Halletsville which is outstanding.

FileError214

Huh, I haven’t heard of The Texan. How does it compare to Buccee’s?

Crashy1620

It’s pretty much what Bucees was 20 years ago, size wise. I stop at The Texan in Schulenberg almost weekly. I hate dealing with Bucees, IMO it’s all super hyped marketing for an overpriced gas station. None of the Bucees across the country do anything to support the community other than jobs, like county fair purchases or sponsorship of events. The owner of Bucees is a stooge for Governor Abbot. My favorite 🤩 that The Texan has is fresh brewed teas in like 5-6 flavors, then all the flavors are available in sweet or unsweetened.

Private-Dick-Tective

Man, I wish we had a gas station that sells good quality meat here in Cali.

Silly_Swan_Swallower

They have hot dogs on rollers, and machines that dispense cheese and chili. Almost as good...

Private-Dick-Tective

Dear God, paradise IS real!!!

Songshiquan0411

"Our apologies, please accept five pounds of frozen shrimp" "Hey wait a minute, this shrimp isn't frozen! And it smells funny!" "Okay, okay *ten* pounds." "Woo-hoo!"

Private-Dick-Tective

This guy Apus.

TPIRocks

For $14.99, I doubt it.

gleefulcats

There actually is one in CA that sells awesome meat that I’m guessing is locally sourced. It’s out in Doyle, CA. If I remember correctly it’s a shell station out front, and they are located right on hwy 395 in Doyle. They sell great meat, and I didn’t ask or check, but my assumption was it’s most likely from one of the ranchers that are nearby along hwy 395.

Private-Dick-Tective

Got it, now I have a reason to go-to Doyle.

neecho235

True, but at least our gas stations have beer. They don't have that in many states.

Private-Dick-Tective

See, when's the last time I bought a beer from a gas station....NEVER. 😂

neecho235

Well, I do it all the time. I have a local gas station with a walk-in beer cooler. They usually have a good selection.

Private-Dick-Tective

Gotcha, ones I go in for usually have generic stuff so I pass them right by for soda.

cracked-tumbleweed

Looks better than the Dollar Tree Rib Eye Steak

Massive_Jaguar_522

No one believes me when I tell them those existed

Zozorrr

I don’t believe it lol

Garden_Mo

I still remember the banner over the entrance, never bought any though. *edit found a pic and article https://www.mashed.com/203906/the-truth-about-dollar-trees-1-steaks/

Reddit_Okami804

Tell em go on you tube

pickledeggmanwalrus

I tried to make jerky out of the dollar tree ribeyes. They shriveled up to nothing in like 6 hours. It was impressive how much saline solution was infused in those things. The jerky sucked

Fyrestar333

They make a great cheese steak sandwich!

insta

They sell them in those little cups :(

RobNybody

Is marbling an American thing? Since I joined this sub I've been fucking searching for a marbled steak and have not even seen one. I live in Portugal. I've had good Argentinian steaks which is the favourite here, bit there is no marbling.

Invictus1836

I saw a documentary on steak one time that said many traditional European breeds of cows don’t develop as much marbling which is why stewed beef is more popular than steak in that region. Can’t speak to Argentina though.

RobNybody

Interesting.

ZoomRubber

No, the best marbling I've ever seen was in Japan.

RobNybody

Is it not a thing in Europe or have I just been unlucky/looking in the wrong places?

TheLostKee

You’re not wrong. From my experience traveling a few European countries, their cuts are definitely less marbled unless you’re getting Japanese or Australian wagyu

tommyland666

Definitely looking in the wrong places.

RagingAnemone

You have to get the cow drunk and make love to it.

Needmoresnakes

I'm Australian and marbling is common here depending on the cut. We aren't Argentina or Japan of course but I think our beef is fairly well thought of? Or I've been horribly lied to by my high school ag science teacher.

snuifduifmetkuif

I’m from the netherlands and I can’t marbling that comes close to this. It’s probably a combination of cows here being mostly grass-fed while american cows get corn, and european breeds (at least in the netherlands) are just relatively shit.

TomentoShow

Yes. Many cows don't marble well and are grass fed. Much of the non-usa meat doesn't marble.

Sure_Ad_3390

Our breed of cow is designed to produce more intramuscular fat. If you looked at some of our choice grade it would probably look closer to what you are familiar with. SA and EU cows just have different genetics not likely to produce much intramuscular fat.

sundancekid005

welcome to Texas

Unusual_Car215

Fair price too.

RadiantRing

They don’t look bad lol.. the gas station might have a deal set up or an affiliation with a local butcher. Is it a heavy camping area? That might also explain things..

Southern-Fondant-92

Those looks prime

Bearspoole

Those looks incredible

WafflesZCat

As long as they're not paper thin like Dollar stores have.

Mdkynyc

OP said they were thick to boot

AmieKinz

You can see how thick they are on the top of em.

Fongernator

The package says 16 oz, so it's 1 lb.

sdotmill

Would potentially buy the entire freezer. Those look like well marbeled steaks and maybe 1.5” thick?

BrendenU7

In hindsight, I could've a bought a Styrofoam cooler and some ice to make it work lol

Fongernator

16 oz so probably at least 1 inch depending on the size (area/footprint) it covers

SeaDweller01

Injected with water, beef fat and added salt too? Wtd

youngstoney8_

That’s no gas station steak I’d say the Texan is a local meat man/ farmer that just knows how to place his product around town/state and network even bigger when ppl like you buy it and it’s one of the best steaks ya have had. 🤷‍♂️

ComeOnBreh

I'd buy a cooler, a bag of ice, and clear them out.

DominicGuarino

The Texan is totally legit! Love them.

Chocolatehusky226

Best steaks I’ve ever had are from a little gas station who’s owners also own a beef farm in rural Ohio. Beer fridge doubles as a beef fridge.

WatersEdge50

I’m in Central Ohio. Where is this place?

Chocolatehusky226

Huron area

josh442333

I wish the gas stations I used sell that kind of meat

Designer_Hour_4034

I trust this meat

Timmeh420

Most of the Kwik trip Gas stations I've been to up North have steaks and some of them look to be pretty good quality. Also their glazer donuts are damn near as good as Krispy kremes

Fluffity-Marshalay

Where this?

formerhugeNsyncfan

That's a Buccees, think if Walmart merged with Wawa and a minimum of 100 gas pumps.

Fluffity-Marshalay

Yeah I'm from Texas and familiar with Buccees, I just didn't realize that's where it was!

formerhugeNsyncfan

I think I lied and it is a The Texan which is a off brand Buccees.

Similar_Sandwich_708

There’s a lot scattered around Texas. Locally sourced meat. These places are usually pretty great. Woodys in Madisonville is unreal

Sensitive_Ladder2235

Makes sense, some farms operate gas stations as a side hustle and use them to sell their wares for cheap. Other gas stations act as a sort of "coop" for local farmers looking to sell directly to the consumer instead of to a distributor. Theres one about an hour away from my place where I get primals whenever I pass through.

thicclarrylobster

That’s the Texan. It’s similar to Buccees

pah2000

It's like their clone. Family owned, they have a handful of stores. I work in Port Aransas and they added one last summer. I have to go now!

Motor-Train2357

Im in Corpus does the Texan in Port A have these steaks?

pah2000

I don’t know. I’ve never been to The Texan. I won’t go back until 8/1. But I’ll be checkin’!

pah2000

I doubt it. Tourist trap and all.

pah2000

Actually I'm going next Thursday. I'll give it a look!

Fromage_Damage

Texas really has amazing beef. I was there a couple months ago, and we stopped at a little market, the steaks were crazy good. The condo we rented had a community grill area and I cooked them there.

jpowell180

This week I think Publix has ribeyes for $8.99 a pound…

DL-Kelter

Howdy from Texas. We have a ton of small slaughter/processers coupled with their own family managed smoke houses and butcher shop found in communities of less than 1200 strung throughout our state. One of my favorites is “Caspers“ in Weimer Texas Going back several generations. As mentioned previously, I have little doubt this is locally sourced beef from one of those shops and this convenience store is a point of distribution. There will be a loyal customer following that will clear all this out only to be quickly refilled.

mynextthroway

Gas station food is either the best stuff ever, or you get worms and die.

THEDRDARKROOM

They're going after the truckers with camping stoves

PR05ECC0

Those look substantially better than the steaks in my upscale market

Tinmania

I only question is how does each one weigh exactly 16 ounces??

versacemark

Funny story: Bought steaks from a guy selling them out of his white ram pick up truck at a gas station in Cleveland at 10 pm. Prime time for state purchases at a gas station. Looked legit at the time, truck had a cap, a fridge, a logo, etc. when I was buying it he hooked me up, purchased like six steaks from him. I defrosted them the next day, they were rancid, I thought maybe I’m going crazy so I soaked them in water and vinegar maybe get the smell out, fried them on cast-iron pan, butter based it, rosemary, the whole 9 yards……tasted like ass, not that I would know….gigity. Then try to look up the company, it didn’t exist, shocker. My wife told me to get over it and let it go. Two years later, I get employed by a water, mitigation company. We handle everything from water damage, sewage back up, fires, etc. I get a call, my dispatcher says there’s a guy calling about sewage overflowing in his bathroom. Our process is to get to the homeowner within the hour to secure the job, get insurance involved, etc.. Guess whose house I roll up to you, the old man with the white ram pick up truck that sold me the steaks. I said “hey, you sold me some steaks a few years back out of your truck.” He goes “how were they?” I said “fantastic, now can you please go show me your toilet situation?” The end.

EcstaticJuggernaut46

Wow!!

LiteFoo

This is a buy my friend. I even haven't seen a prime ribeye more marbled than that in a while!

Ginford_Davidson

Dude I’d definitely buy a couple, especially if I was on one of my many camping trips.

Jtskiwtr

BBQ on the fly.

FactOk3586

Look good...I would have picked it up

TheRealMangokill

Gas station steaks...this is fitting for this sub.

ILSmokeItAll

Outstanding.

YenZen999

Gas Station is a broad term these days. We talking Bucee's or Texaco?

LT-COL-Obvious

There is a rendering plant close by.

Chrisdkn619

I'll take two!

bignellie

Horse ribeye

HuckleberryHappy6524

I know this is a steak sub but if you didn’t buy at least one link of their dried sausage, you missed out. It’s expensive as fuck but damn that shit is good.

FileError214

Buccee’s?

Competitive_Log_4111

Welcome to Texas my man

Kegelz

Lots of this going on. The good meat markets sell this way

Speedhabit

14 bucks, I’d try it they look dope

MrBobilious

Great price for Ribeye

SbreckSthe2nd

If it's the country it's pretty common.

favorless

Support communities

SkinnyFatKidd

Oh hell yea!

Firesnowing

The marbling looks good. I can't find that quality around here very often.

suckurdukes

Woulda bought 20😂

jaxcole2

Give me a sandwich Russ I’m so hungry I could eat a sandwich from a gas station.

kick_da_legs_back

Pretty good...

Sum1LightUp

At least the price is right, many of these truckers have outlets and George Foreman grills in their cab..

Revolutionary_Bet875

Pocket steak 🥩 lol

ThisIsTooLongOfAName

Just put it in the dash on a hot day as you drive

scorpionattitude

Looks good but that’s the normal price etc right!? At least where I am it is. I like that it says 16oz instead of just 1lb - I’d definitely pick those up if they were frozen. I dig when you find a good country/hole in the wall gas station when traveling. It’s usually just Amish stuff, this right here would be my preference over some carrot cake ANY day🤤

Old-Machine-5

This fool slaughtered a cow just for the gas station. Meat that beautiful didn’t travel. Telling you. Look out back and you you’ll see some cow bones lol.

ChuckBass_08

What grade is it?

NoEstablishment6447

They were frozen I assume? Use by date on the one on the right looks to be December of 2024.

SmoesKnows

Welcome!

BalowmeSandwich

Those are lovely. And all ready for the old sous vide, if that’s your thing

Carmen-Sandiegonuts

Most likely located near a campground

Accomplished_Radish8

When in Texas…

ZealousidealComb3683

Gas station for you is grocery store for others

Interesting_Cycle564

What am I missing?

K1ngofsw0rds

Not a bad deal I’m impressed

floyd0580

Most of the feed stores around here carry beef and other meats from local farms also.

[deleted]

I’d snag a few for a fact. Especially if in Texas.

Psychedelix117

Damn. I’m pretty jealous

_echthros_

This gas station steak is bigger, thicker, better marbled and cheaper than what I would get at any supermarket/grocery store here in Vancouver.

Imagenatas

What does LIP ON1 mean? Its on the yellow price tag under the steaks.

Notthedroidette

The Texan is my go to gas station. Never as packed as Buccees

Pristine-Green-7526

Should swipe those up

UnamedStreamNumber9

What does “lip on” mean? Are these face steaks?

Motor-Train2357

Cap?

AlivePalpitation7968

High quality and cheap? Why not buy lol scared youre gonna catch something? Lol

lil_groundbeef

Those are absolutely beautiful. If there’s one thing Texas does right, it’s beef.

RecognitionAny832

Is this Buccees?

Ossimo85

Was it a Buccees gas station by chance? I could see it being in one of those mega stations.

scrollingtraveler

Those look great.

pootlordthe7th

I don’t know why but i immediately thought of this being in Texas

snuifduifmetkuif

Man people are saying the marbling looks okay while I can’t even find a steak at a quality butcher that has marbling that comes close to this

corneliu5vanderbilt

Frozen and great marbling. Doesn’t look that bad tbh.

aroundtheworldiroam

Not bad at all

brakeb

And in a sous vide bag ready to dip in.. nice

TheHancock

Texas just built different. Lol

redflagsmoothie

That gas station steak looks better than the one I got from Whole Foods yesterday

Kevin9O7

dude, stakes are so cheap in US

EmbarrassedArcher424

Those look nice. That's a steal

FeeHistorical9367

I'd have been buying a bag of ice and one of those styrofoam ice chests!

haikusbot

ZamHalen3

I stopped in at one of those and saw that. I was on lunch break at the time or else I would have picked one up.

snuggly_cobra

Cooler? Ice? Think , man….hotel freezer in exchange for a steak…..

dreamcastdc

Those look good.

pjcooper53

Should have bought a dozen or so.

fistfullofsmelt

I've had some of the best steaks ever pulled from a gas station they get from local farmers on consignment and then most of those Farmers products are grass-fed.

Sure_Ad_3390

wtf gas station is that

SinnerClair

What is this, the Texas Chainsaw gas station?

Longjumping-Spell733

Boudin egg rolls and fried catfish nuggets (AMAZING)at In-laws in Iowa, La

yaboyJship

I will be grabbing some of those next week on my way home from San Antonio

CandyRedNinja

From where.

yaboyJship

From this gas station, “The Texan.” It’s off I-10 in between San Antonio and Houston

Abusedgamer

I really had to go "That's somewhere in Texas, right?" The damn states right on the packaging! 🤣

Straight-Bug-8563

Bro where pls

Familiar-Ad-4579

Are you in Louisiana? Because gas stations in South Louisiana are where to go for good food. I do wonder why there’s water in the ingredient list

pah2000

Can confirm! Went to The Texan in Port A last week. Will be eating tonight!
