Seeing backups and rookies perform the same if not better week in and week out just makes me not want to watch.

turtledoves2

Howell, Stroud, Dobbs, Levis, McConnell, Devito have all had better games than Kenny

STEELCITY1989

Kenny's best game is 2 fucking tds

FantasticMax

At this point I would push my grandma down the stairs if it guaranteed Kenny would throw 2 TDs in even half of the remaining games.

Volcanohiker

Grandma here…how rude! But I sorta understand!

R1pp3z

Take one for the team

LeveonChocoDiamond

Gotta take this one for the team ma’am

The330Strangla

And I would help this person's grandma up the stairs only to push her back down them if it means Picket throws 3 TDs every game.

PM_Me_1_Funny_Thing

And I'd rush her to the hospital, only to slow down for her to see it then keep on driving while laughing maniacally if it means we win out the season and win the division.

DesertYinzer

That last “drive” we had compared to the Browns’ last drive was the breaking point for a lot of Steelers fans.

Lawgang94

Tell me about it, we had all the momentum I was certain we were gonna get that fg (asking for a TD from this offense is wishful thinking) but Im glad alot of these holdouts are coming to the light because I said I. Week 2 that Kenny isn't gonna be the guy for us and there was a small part of me that thought that might comeback to bite me because it was only the 2nd game of his 2nd season but QBs have never been at more of an advantage to grasp the game and develop quicker than they are now and he has shown very little of those traits.

Bangorgooner75

14 seconds of football. 😔

tw33k_

Man, wish we could get someone like Dobbs!

Colmustard15

Dunno why you’d think you would be downvoted. Every post since game ended has been about how awful he had been.

XtraChrisP

That is an organizational issue.

e3890a

Because this sub has been dickriding him at cult-like levels through bad play for a while

sunbroganksquad_2121

i agree.. since draft people acted like he was high level. think pitt fans added to the hype.. let him have a full season first.. he keeps on getting hurt but some of his passes are not good.. but i also blame canada

shstron44

His ceiling was the Baltimore game last year and we only scored 16 points

yesman202u18

Ive tried so hard to stick with Kenny but these last few weeks have made it pretty tough. Yes Matt Canada is shit but my god you gotta hit a wide open target 99/100 times.

bk1285

I’ve been a huge fan since the Miami win his freshman year, but 229 yards passing combined the past 2 weeks, he’s not it. If this team had a legit average offense, not good or great just average, they’d be damn near unbeatable

KCMichael1105

So true… with an average starting QB, this team could get a lead, then bury their opponents with a great running attack and elite defense. But Pickett? How often has this team had a lead all year? 15 minutes?

Lawgang94

We have been out gained in every game this year that is just appalling.

yesman202u18

I want Kenny to be the guy so bad as well. I like Kenny, he's a tough player and a likable guy. He's just not got what he needs to be solid NFL starter at this point. All a bit sad really. we are just one mid tier guy away from being dangerous.

Do__Math__Not__Meth

>we are just one mid tier guy away from being dangerous Disagree, the line is still shaky, the scheme is awful and frankly our WRs are mid and I’m tired of pretending they’re not

Letsgomountaineers5

WRs are fine lmao we have no one to get them the ball. DJ and Pickens are a better duo than 75% of the league has

Revolutionary_Area51

Johnson disappeared, he's a guy who's gotta get at least 50 yards. no excuse,Pickett was not getting guys the ball

90swasbest

Having a bad game against one of the top defenses in the league is one thing, but you could put a jersey on my cock and balls and homie could throw for more than 126 against the fucking Packers.

bk1285

We are what 10 games into the year and we have what is it 6? Td passes? That’s just not good…year two is when you are supposed to make a big leap and if anything he has regressed since last year

R1pp3z

They didn’t need to throw the ball against the packers and if you credit him all the PI yards it was a solid game. Definitely not the game to complain about.

Cold-Consideration23

Idk I thought he was going to pull out a great two minute drill to get a FG. 3 straight incompletions all to DJ, one could have been intentional grounding

8thFlush

Prior to this game, I was one of those people who was willing to give him the benefit of a doubt for the rest of the season. I still think he is our starter for this year, but I’m not optimistic at all about him anymore, and really hope changes are made at the QB position for next year.

gruey

I was basically there until the last drive. Now, I feel like we might as well give Mason a shot.

J-notter

This would be a terrible idea

WhatTheDuck00

What would we lose?

AgitatedSquirrell

Nothing. Over 23 games, Pickett has had 13 touchdowns. Rudolph had 13 in just the 2019 season alone, and he only played 10 games.

New-Contribution-244

I don’t see anything happen either until the coaching staff and management change too.

ehetenandaiyo

You're right, Yinzers don't want to admit that they might be seeing Kenny look this bad for another 2-3 years.

My_attitude_Is_Grim

Been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because of Canada. But he is not the answer. Hopefully Tomlin will make a change, or draft a qb. This sucks

DruTangClan

Would you want a change this year? I don’t know who we have that’s better

bk1285

We have to look into free agency or hope to have someone slide to us in the draft

salmonthesuperior

Honestly even in terms of draft it doesn't look particularly promising this year. Not that I think the team shouldn't take a chance but I'm not holding my breath that it works out

bk1285

We’ll potential fre agent options off the top of my head Dobbs? Maybe….Cousins I’m intrigued by…Baker I’m also intrigued with, Jimmy G too injury prone, and tanehill I think is done…so there are some options for free agents

NerfLeBron

As a Baker guy if Steelers get him it would be so awesome. Out of all the QB you have listed Cousins is the only one who is ahead of Baker.

True_Read_9637

This is a historically strong QB class so if you can’t a find a guy this year then…

EIIander

We will never get a good QB hanging around the middle of the draft without massive moves.

theexile14

Not really true. You take shots and get lucky. Ben went 11, Rodgers 24th, and Mahomes 27th. Brady, Dak, Hurts, Cousins, Purdy, etc were all taken after the first round.

77katssitting

Mahomes was 10th overall.

theexile14

My error, thank you. Point stands that you don't need a top-5 pick to get a QB.

77katssitting

No worries. Just didn't look right when I saw your post. I had to double-check. I remember wanting the Steelers to take him and him going off the board early. (they weren't going to anyway)

Cold-Consideration23

I think Kahn at the helm will have better foresight than Colbert these last 5 years

PM_Me_1_Funny_Thing

Yeah Brady didn't go until the 6th round and by all draft reports was gonna shit the bed. But once he took over for bledsoe, he made everyone else shit the bed.

theexile14

I'm writing a list because people keep being dumb about drafting QBs. These are the draft positions of NFL starters: AFC (10/16 in the 1st half of the 1st Rd) Ravens - Jackson - 1.32 Bengals - Burrow - 1.1 Steelers - Pickett - 1.20 Browns - Watson - 1.12 Dophins - Tua - 1.5 Bills - Allen - 1.7 Jets - Rodgers - 1.24 Patriots - Jones - 1.6 Jaguars - Lawrence - 1.1 Texans - Stroud - 1.2 Colts - Rchardson - 1.4 Titans - Levis - 2.33 Chiefs - Mahomes 1.10 Broncos - Wilson - 3.75 Raiders - Jimmy G - 2.62 Chargers - Herbert - 1.6 NFC (7/16 in the 1st half of the 1st Rd) Eagles - Hurts - 2.53 Cowboys - Dak - 4.135 Commies - Howell - 5.144 Giants - Jones - 1.6 Lions - Goff - 1.1 Vikings - Cousins - 4.102 Packers - Love - 1.26 Bears - Fields - 1.11 Saints - Carr - 2.36 Falcons - Ridder - 3.74 Buccs - Mayfield - 1.1 Panthers - Young - 1.1 49ers - Purdy - 7.262 Seahawks - Smith - 2.39 Rams - Stafford - 1.1 Cardinals - Murray - 1.1 So basically half of starting QBs in the NFL were taken in the first half of the first (17/32) and just 10 in the top 5. Point is, you don't need a top 5 pick to get a QB.

VacationNo7981

At this point I don’t trust that anyone in the organization can evaluate talent good enough to trust them taking another QB in the first round.

The_elk00

Mason Rudolph should get an opportunity

LetTheKnightfall

Mason

ryangmode1

He has been the worst quarterback in every matchup this year.

Hatemail375

I’ll fix this for you. “He has been the worst quarterback this year.” He’s like 31 or 32 of every QB stat.

Chipdouglas0007

He is what he is at this point, a guy who won't throw a pick but can barely muster 100 passing yards

[deleted]

I’d much rather have 300 yards and a couple INTs than that. At least your moving the ball

DillingerGetawayCar

Honestly calling him an average NFL backup seems charitable at this point. I’d say borderline practice squad QB.

BlayneCoC

I’d agree. I mean let’s look at back ups in the league playing bette than Kenny Dorian TR: sure he has an interception, but he won the game. (This one’s a stretch) Gardner Minshew Adrian O’Connell Will Levis (almost as many TDs as Kenny btw) Tommy Fucking Devito has as many TDs as Kenny on 3 games. 3 today. Kenny hasn’t had a 3 TD game YET!! You get my point. I truly think the only QB worst that Kenny with a starting job is Zach Wilson

DillingerGetawayCar

And Wilson just got benched, so now Pickett is officially the worst lol.

BlayneCoC

Ouch. Looking at Wilson’s states he actually performed better than Pickett today with the exception of of the int.

e3890a

Why does it feel like the Steelers are the only team who sees brutal incompetence and decides they want to reward it

Blackn35s

Dobbs

BlayneCoC

I’ll be honest I got so upset listing these I just quit. But yet most certainly Joshua Dobbs.

LeveonChocoDiamond

Lol. I got downvoted hard two weeks ago for saying dobbs is better

[deleted]

Yeah for real. Backups can make basic nfl throws and Kenny struggles with that

Doobiehauser

Homers in this sub last week were debating how in a few games KP would be better than Trevor Lawrence. The delusions these people have are staggering. KP has huge accuracy issues. On top of that, our receivers are on a different page than our QB. It's not all Canada folks.

shstron44

I’ve not seen a professional QB sail so many passes and throw behind guys and possess zero timing and chemistry. It reminds me of some of the worst backup performances I’ve seen where a 3rd string has to start or come in during the game. Where they struggle to complete a pass and coaching would rather run every play than let the guy throw and fuck it up

Blackn35s

Thankfully Pickens likes to make the highlight trick catches, otherwise Kenny may have less than 50 yards.

Doobiehauser

And people wonder why he's frustrated. Dude has to make non stop circus catches to make a difference.

jt5455

KP also misses seeing the open receivers

79superglide

The receivers not being on the same page as the qb is 100% on the coaches.

Ambitious-Muffin-357

Also how do other teams’ receivers always have separation and ours can never get open. GP and DJ always have defenders within 2 yards of them. Multiple times today it seemed like KP and the receivers never are on the same page. And our coach doesn’t seem to address anything. Excuse after excuse.

ImpavidusRL

Bad offensive scheme, both GP and DJ are fast enough and elusive enough to get open, but their routes are so pedestrian that it's easy to cover them. Whether that is Canada's fault or the fact that Kenny can't throw anything accurate on harder routes, so they just don't call them is anyone's guess.

freestyle43

Our QB sucks and our recievers suck. If only they had some sort of coach that specializes in offense.

Doobiehauser

You can only polish a turd so much. In the end it's still a turd. KP is a turd.

bdgg2000

He went to Pitt bud

A7Xpsycho724

I got shit last year for saying I wasn’t sold when they pulled Mitch. Everyone at work was saying they don’t believe in buying jerseys, Pickett was gonna be their first.

AtmoSZN

I bought a KP8 jersey at the end of last year and I’d give it away for free at this point.

A7Xpsycho724

I eventually want to add watt to my collection. But that’s about it

BissySitch

Same here. All the Pitt fans being blinded by the fact that he went to Pitt. He was saved by his good covid year in a shit conference.

Strange-Nobody-3936

Yeah Mitch barely got a chance, they wanted Pickett to play no matter how Mitch performed, they were chanting for him in every game even when Mitch was doing well

AnonPlzzzzzz

Kenny peaked in the ACC championship game as a fifth year senior lol He's not an NFLer. He entered the league too old. He's not going to learn, especially not from this coaching staff of frauds. He is, without a doubt, the worst starting QB in the league. Sad part is there are no better options. Mitch sucks. Mason might do marginally better but as soon as he makes a mistake you will be screaming for Pickett again lmao

wthim3

I've been telling people if he didn't get that 5th year at Pitt due to a COVID year and have a career year, he wouldn't even be in the NFL. People didn't want to hear it

fredlikefreddy

he def would've been in the NFL but probably a 4th rounder

wthim3

After his 4th year at Pitt he was not projected to be drafted at all, so no he would not be. Perhaps picked up on someone's practice squad at best

fredlikefreddy

I mean that's just not true. He was talked about as a 5th rounder after his 4th season at Pitt. I thought it was pretty documented that he had a conversation with Peyton Manning about it [https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/\_/id/32599638/kenny-pickett-evolution-elite-prospect-final-college-season-pitt](https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32599638/kenny-pickett-evolution-elite-prospect-final-college-season-pitt)

theexile14

The story, as another commenter noted, is that Manning called around and told him he'd be a 4th so he chose to come back another year.

Do__Math__Not__Meth

He was projected to like the 4th or 5th round in 2020, a year in which he missed quite a bit of time due to injury. If you look at his stats he got better every year at Pitt, this “one good year” narrative is tired

EbenezerNutting

Kenny had four very mediocre seasons as a college starting QB, then he had one Rod Rutherford season chucking the ball to a Biletnikoff Award winning WR in an extremely weak ACC.

louisbeduis

Most quarterbacks enter their prime nowadays late 20s and 30s. Guy is in his mid 20s and has the worse OC in the league coaching him in his second year. Ya I’d like to see more out of him but he’s not exactly set up for success

JAD3688

Put Mason in. What’s the worse that could happen?

wonderfulwilliam

https://www.reddit.com/r/steelers/s/f4QUMfQtkl

FantasticMax

I mean in that game Mason threw for 131 yards and 1 TD before he was knocked out. Those stats would have won us the game today.

JAD3688

😂😂😂

bk1285

He looks competent and forces us to pay him next year

EmoJ1000

Probably the same thing that happened when they put trubisky in - turn the ball over and loses. Kenny doesn't fuck up, which is an easy thing to do in this shitty offense.

Strange-Nobody-3936

Easy not to fuck up when you don’t do anything

[deleted]

That Kenny Pickett sure is excellent at not fumbling the snap.

FantasticMax

Kenny doesn’t turn the ball over because takes zero chances. At some point you have to take a chance of you expect to be successful.

Supra84man

And if they keep playing this style of offense, all the wideouts will request trades eventually

Motown_Sloan

I think this every week! Can u imagine playing wide out for this team!? My god their futures depend on some kind of productivity. Pickens is 1 game away from a meltdown. He probably wouldn’t re-sign here no matter what they’d try to pay him. The more dysfunctional this offense gets, the more these players are gonna become frustrated, vocal, and volatile. Peep najees post game interview today. The wheels are about to come off this thing.

rangoon03

The team is in a weird purgatory with him right now. They don’t lose directly because of him because Kenny doesn’t turn the ball over, but they also don’t win because of him and that’s a big problem.

Asleep_Draw1984

this offense is built to not turn the ball over. I promise you if they had more routes in the middle of the field, more deep ball plays kenny would have thrown easily north of 10 INTS probably closer to 15. they saw how bad he was with picks last year and purposely dumbed down the offense and made it so he couldn't put the ball in the middle of the field where INTs are most prevalent

EmoJ1000

He wasn't bad with picks last year. He had 7 in the first 4 games, three of which came in his first game when he replaced trubisky in the jets game and he was playing from behind. He has thrown 6 in the 20 games since. I'm not saying he's going to be elite and in conversation with the likes of Mahomes, but a better OC will put him in better position to make plays. Canada sucks at his job.

epicstar

We wanted Duck when Mason played because he was abysmal. Look how that panned out.

HAS-A-HUGE-PENIS

I'd take Duck now tbh.

ParamedicCareful3840

He aspires to be average. I would be ok with average. He isn’t close to average

[deleted]

Kenny Pickett has an NFL record for QBs that have played 25 games or more. Worst TD/Pass% of ALL TIME.

Genosdude

Mason need to start next game in the overalls

wonderfulwilliam

https://www.reddit.com/r/steelers/s/f4QUMfQtkl

superbros6

Let’s be honest. If kenny would be any good Canada would probably have a easier time play calling and oline had a far easier job because the other tee would fear our qb. Now they just think, let’s pressure him and he will crack

EmoJ1000

Canada made Big Ben look bad. The offense has been bad well before Kenny.

tider06

Ben was 40 fucking years old.

BLaZe_Jeffey

Not this bad, it's never been THIS bad...

Steel_Ketchup89

This is so true. I watched every one of those 2020 and 2021 games and no game was as awful as this one. Ben may have load a step but 100 total passing yards was super low even for ancient Ben. This is different.

bk1285

Ben also couldn’t physically run the offense

theexile14

You say that, but that narrative was all about the lack of downfield throws because his arm was shot. Well, it turns out there still aren't many downfield throws.

bk1285

Ben struggled to get under center and we had to run a mostly shotgun offense, that does limit what you can do some

Legal-Beach-5838

Kenny doesn’t have much of an arm either

chug_splash219

Seriously. He looks like he strains himself throwing a pass 10 yards past the line of scrimmage. After playing against natural born passers like Levis and Stroud, I'm convinced Kenny isn't the answer. His ceiling will never be high enough for us to accept. His win stat line is helped by a good defense that produces turnovers.

[deleted]

Big Ben under Canada 3740 yards 22 tds 10 int, 86 rating we all would take that.

bdgg2000

I’m wondered if KP8 ineptitude was holding MC back? KP8 never throws down the middle.

theexile14

Both falling short is most likely right now. MC has produced terrible offenses with Ben and Mitch too, and they all seem to think Mason is worse than the three who've played too.

bdgg2000

Agree. Yes

The_elk00

They also thought Josh Dobbs was a PS player. I'll repeat what I've said other posts, Mason should be the QB next week.

Jeddiewan

I had hopes. I drank a lot koolaid and I've Homer'd harder than a Simpson. But I'm done. Kenny sucks. Canada sucks. And Tomlin is even starting to Hoover.

Sufficient_Use516

Cleveland has a really good defense. So there’s that. But, he’s not putting up good numbers vs the bad defenses either. I’d probably play Mitch the rest of the year and then hit the draft for a new QB.

Wish__Crisp

He’s lost all confidence. He has happy feet. May be broken at this point and not sure he can recover like other young QBs who lose confidence and fall apart. That said I hope we do right by the offense and hire a competent OC in the offseason. An NFL scheme could help a lot and may help Kenny get some confidence back.

Golfman52392

Is the scheme the reason he can't hit a wide open target week in and week out?

Wish__Crisp

Did I say Kenny is doing awesome? Canadas offense sucks, ignore Kenny for a second, it sucks. He needs to go. Kenny is the starter here the next two years. That’s how this organization operates.

theexile14

Yeah, realistically the path forward is continuing to upgrade the line (and adding another WR) and replacing the OC for next year. If Kenny makes major strides, then he plays year 4 and then we can decide about picking up the option. If he plays poorly next year with an improved OL and a new OC, then we draft another QB who sits part of 2025 and probably replaces Kenny partway through the year. Anyone demanding a new QB next year is an idiot. The only change would be at OC, meaning the rookie would still be behind Moore and Cole as we're spending our pick on the QB instead of OL. Worse, some late round picks may be used to trade up, further weakening our ability to give the QB weapons.

Blze001

Unfortunately, the QB carousel is even more brutal than the head-coaching one, so there's a good chance we'll be on it for awhile.

OlliMaattaIsA2xChamp

"I might get downvoted" proceeds to say the most obvious, popular opinion among Steelers fans.

[deleted]

I am so glad that everyone is finally seeing this for what it is. Don’t let Pitt fans gaslight you into thinking Pickett is even remotely good enough to start, the dude is just not good enough and can never be good enough. Unless Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay is coming to be the offensive coordinator he’s got 0 shot of being a productive QB. The more people accept that and apply pressure the more likely it is they will not dumpster another year with Pickett as QB 1 next year.

M_R_Ducs

> He looks like an average NFL Backup QB Most backups can hit wide open receivers. > play up to his potential, His what? > mediocre and subpar Bruh, he sucks ass. There is no other way to put it. > but sadly it’s looking like he is destined to be a backup No, he's destined to get cut, and end up in the XFL. In any other organization he would bed benched for todays outing, if for no reason then simply accountability. This is one of the worst games for a QB I've ever seen.

Ok_Consequence4281

He's been bad, and the offensive scheme does him no favors. At no point does the offense give him easy answer to what the defense is doing, and he doesn't have the physical ability of a Justin Herbert to overcome it with insane throws.

cvlz8800

You’re going to get downvoted because the idiots in the fan base are going to say it’s the offensive play calling or it’s the assistants sons fault or some shit instead of looking at the product on the field.

kiocente

I haven’t seen a single person in this sub try to make excuses for Pickett after this game. You guys need to stop pointing fingers at strawmen.

[deleted]

No the excuses will start about tomorrow afternoon, will increase into Tuesday morning, will be the prevailing sentiment by Thursday morning, and most of the narrative will be very high on Kenny by the time the next game starts

kiocente

I mean… I don’t see it. People have been souring on him over the past several weeks, local and national

cvlz8800

After this game no, but when the team was winning y’all were saying omg he’s the future he’s Kobe! He’s got the clutch gene. So you “going out on a limb” by saying “after this game” is laughable. Why don’t you talk about the last month half the fan base including you it seems like since you felt so triggered been sucking him off for his shitty play for 57 minutes then the last drive he puts some bull shit together and y’all have wet dreams about him.

fireassbarz

Why would u get downvoted posting this after he put up less than 100 yards and got outplayed by a 5th round rookie, the whole sub hates him rn

D14mondDuk3

I totally disagree. He in no way looks like an average NFL QB. He doesn’t have the skills to play at the professional level.

gjhkd36

Fuck I remember suffering thru the Bubby Brister years. This feels the same.

MistaCreepz

He should've sat all last year, he obviously wasn't ready and now he may be broken permanently. We missed the playoffs anyways last year, riding Mitch while letting KP develop might've made a difference. Either way, KP isn't it although we're going to need to sit through one more year of this at least with a new OC. Hopefully they'll hire the right guy.

Drpretorios

To Kenny’s credit, he’s become the 7th best AFC North QB in only his 2nd year. I’m confident that with more experience and a better OC, Kenny Pickett can become the 5th best QB in the AFC North. You heard it here first.

Sybertron

A) There's no way you're not gonna see Kenny at minimum of next year. And with new OC most likely. B) Kenny doesnt do blocks. O-line was horrible, again. C) Magically inserting a QB does not fix things. Thats just how you end up in QB hell like Jets, Browns, Commanders, Ect ect ect. If anything the play of a lot of non-big name QBs should be showing that you dont need a miracle from god QB to win in todays NFL. You need the other pieces though, or it wont matter who the QB is.

gooseisme20

"Also Matt Canada sucks" This. How can anyone succeed with these playcalls? If I have to watch another WR run suicides behind the LOS before the snap for a 1 yard gain or another back shoulder throw, I'm gonna lose my mind. 95% of the passing plays are screens, back shoulder contested balls along the sideline, or 6 yard curl routes. There's a whole damn field between the numbers 10+ yards out that is never considered except for maybe the 1st play of the game. This was an issue for Mitch before Kenny, too. Canada is the common denominator. He was bad at Indiana, bad at LSU, and bad here. There is 0 creativity, and every play is painfully predictable.

bigwall79

If we’re lucky, the FO moves on from Canada at any point between this afternoon and two minutes after the final game this year. Get a competent coordinator and give Kenny one more season with a new play caller. If he STILL sucks, you have to move on. This offense has too much young talent to be wasted. I don’t even like the thought of giving him another year, but something drastic has to change.

RakiRamirez

Put me in as QB pussies. Worst case scenario y'all see someone get brutality injured on the first snap. Best case, we get the 7th

BetweenWizards

You've got my support

drumstick1944

Two words for what I just saw: due diligence

Miserable-Ad-8729

Tommy Devito

TheZoloftMaster

You’d know by now if Kenny were ‘the guy’ Kenny is not ‘the guy’

plizark

There’s a reason why we don’t throw over the middle. It’s because they don’t trust Kenny. If you don’t trust your QB, his confidence goes down. When his confidence goes down, he’s bad. It speaks volumes that we don’t throw over the middle. Canada is a problem of its own, but Kenny isn’t the one, I’ve stuck up for him but he hasn’t shown me anything this year that says he’s a NFL caliber starter.

Maurakutney

He certainly seems to have peaked. While the OC really needs to go, will another OC improve accuracy? Hard to tell. Will it hurt to get rid of Canada and see if things improve? Certainly won’t hurt.

[deleted]

All I heard before Pittsburgh drafted Kenny was we let Dan Marino slip by, we can't do that with Kenny Pickett. I said Kenny Picket is no Dan Marino. I was right.

TheCurtain512

Canada sucks is an understatement. Nearly 200 yards on the ground again and what do we do with it? 10 points? Other teams use their ground game to put up POINTS. We don't score regardless of anything. This is a FG offense, I don't care who the QB is. Pickett was dreadful today, it's true. But look at those plays, nobody knew what they were doing. He was never on the same page as his receivers. We're getting deep into the season and this passing game still doesn't know what the fuck it is doing. And on top of that, pretty sure Pickett is still injured. That is the real reason why I don't think he's the "answer". He's spent the majority of his career as a starter hurt. Canada should have been fired early in the season. Today was a prime example of why they will never win anything with his system. Doesn't matter what their defense does or how many fourth quarter wins they get due in large part to luck.

This is soooo true. But if they are not ready it is ultimately the coaches and HC thst are responsible. So tired o f watching mMike do nothing during the game. Other HCs co ordinate and call plays. He delegates. Always looks more like a cheerleader asst coach. We went back to inside zone inside zone. Screen. Punt And that 24 sec drive was a fireable offense Believe me. I have seen them all Terry tommy gun cliff stoudt. Woodley. Slash etc. we all thought that Ben was the problem. Same scheme for the last 6 years

ConstantAggressive54

I think a lot of the problem is the oline play. Not saying Kenny has no fault in any of this but a lot of the times he has people in his face within a second. This O line is horrible in pass protection. Like most of the time he can’t even step up in the pocket because it never forms. As with today let’s not act like he didn’t go against one of if not the best defense in the NFL. I think if you get him a competent OC and a better o line he will be fine. Idk if it’s the oline coache’s scheming or the players or something else. A better o line let’s these plays develop and with that I think his throws will get better and he’ll be able to fully develop. You can’t really develop as a qb when you get no time to do anything

CapitalFill4

I think for many QBs, noticeable improvement comes more suddenly rather than gradually. At some point, for whatever reason, maybe things just start to click. Could happen at the turn to year 3, could come randomly this season. I also think we underestimate how much individual success comes from intangible things. Maybe with a different coordinator he starts to feel better, gels with others better, and maybe that translates to better personal play (reading the field, accuracy, etc). I’ve seen enough players, QB or otherwise, drastically get better or worse really quickly to think he still has time, whether it be on the Steelers or elsewhere. That said, I think the Steelers have 2 problems with waiting. 1, it really is concerning that he doesn’t seem to be getting better at all, in any way. 2, is the Matt Canada issue. Obviously not the entirety of their problem, they’ve been a bit more creative lately and the running game has generally been better, but again, as I alluded to above, I think its been bad enough that the team owes it to Kenny to see how much a different OC helps him improve. I think it’s to dumb to wait until the off-season to do that, but regardless I think we can’t pass final judgement on Kenny until it happens.

better-call-mik3

If they don't figure out the offensive line and they don't get an OC who knows what he's doing, very few QBs will be successful here

[deleted]

I can't defend Tomlin anymore. Does he seriously have no say in the offense? Is he unwilling to step up? Why are Canada and Mike Sullivan still coaching this team? And whoever the O line coach is. Pickett is a bottom 3 starter, but this team isn't going to tank and there aren't better options, so that's whatever. But what the hell was up with Warren getting less rushes than Najee while averaging 14 yards/carry? The Steelers had time to run the ball that last drive. I don't care if Warren gets stuffed, it's our best chance. And it keeps the clock running in case they don't get a first. Tomlin knows the passing chart has looked the same for 3 years and hasn't done a thing about it. Between him and the FO, no one is taking accountability for Pickett progressively getting worse and the offense looking terrible despite adding pieces and experience.

rjwalsh94

He’s not the answer and Najee is cooked too

EIIander

Rooney’s made an emotional pick. The Pitt guy. Set us back many years. Pickens has every right to be pissed some of his best years are being wasted.

Worldly-Hospital5940

He's going to be so good when he signs with Kansas City or Cinncinati as soon as he can.

Shazier_Beam

Rooneys wanted to avoid another Marino miss and man they let their fears rule their judgement.

cobalt_phantom

Even the Pitt homers gave up on him weeks ago. There should be a decent amount of QBs still available in the second round of the draft so hopefully we get one of them and see if that improves anything.

jsmittyz

I agree and I know Canada is bad too but part of me can’t help but wonder if Canada has known this all and his designs are to limit mistakes from Kenny

[deleted]

It's obvious that is what is happening, this sub is just too fucking stupid to realize it.

JollyGiant573

Let's get back to blaming Canada, then after a new OC we can decide if Kenny is serviceable or not.

LetTheKnightfall

And Tomlin is not the guy to find the next answer. I wanted to move on from Tomlin years ago but people wanted him til at least Ben was gone, now he’s still here

D_Antelmi

Offseason Goals: * Fire Canada, obviously. I don't care who you replace him with, hell the offense making it up as they go would probably be better than whatever the fuck that was today. * This QB class looks pretty loaded, draft one in the 1st, and tell Kenny that if he doesn't get his shit together he's going to be out of a job. * Fix the O-Line...again. It's been a turnstile for 3 years now, that shit is unacceptable. * Make some kind of deal with the devil to get one measly season without the defense being injured to hell. We're always playing practice squad guys by the middle of the season, especially at linebacker.

BLaZe_Jeffey

>This QB class looks pretty loaded, draft one in the 1st, and tell Kenny that if he doesn't get his shit together he's going to be out of a job. I'm completely done with Kenny, what the fuck have you guys seen from him to even consider letting him have more chances?

PromiseNotAShoggoth

I think he could have been a good NFL QB with a good OL and a competent OC (tbf I'm a Pitt guy so I've so I've been defending and sticking with KP as much as possible). At this point I think the fear of being "ruined" is legit. I think the "clutch" factor (today not included) supports the idea that when he's not thinking and just acting he could be good, but he just won't be able to at this point. That said if he can figure out WTF us up with his complete misses when passing then he'll be a fine game manager still. Fine being the imperative word.

Bipedal-Moose

I've racked up a ton of negative karma on this sub since April 2022 for suggesting that Kenny Pickett wasn't good. Glad some people are starting to come around on this, but I wish our franchise didn't decide to use a 1st round pick on a QB who realistically was a 3rd round talent at best.

UnderstandingNo2184

He has the worst stats in the league for quarterbacks

UnderstandingNo2184

The stupid steelers just signed russell wilson. Worst quarterback combo in the league. No playoffs this coming season. 😞

unsure110

I don’t think he looks like a nfl backup at this point he is so bad

SPAMmachin3

Coaching didn't do him any favors today either. They could have won but blundered it by not having Warren in on the second to last possession until 3rd down. Najee sees way too many snaps with his limited skills. He comes in and teams can stack the box because Kenny can't throw and najee can't run east to west. Warren made the top defense in the league look not so great. Coaching didn't feel the need let that guy eat and kept going back to name najee. Canada needs to go. Tomlin needs a wakeup call. Kenny needs to go. Najee needs to be the backup. There is no point to playing Kenny just because he doesn't turn the ball over. He can't even get you 150 yards in the air. I'll take a guy that might throw an interception occasionally but still get multiple pass tds. We're embarrassing.

Pittsitpete

He wasn’t great to start the Pitt career, but good enough to win some, with the right oc and players around him he was great. I have hope as long as Canada leaves after this season

ImOnRedditMaaan

Not to be that guy but isn't he playing with a rib injury?

EddieA1028

Honestly it’s impossible to understand Kenny without seeing him with a competent OC. Could he be good? It’s possible. There are warning signs, absolutely, but I also think he can improve in those areas with a new OC

Stuff-Optimal

People forget this has been on par with Canadas offense. Blame Kenny all you want but he plays to the game plan, if he misses he misses big enough to not be a turnover. DJ had drops today, Muth had what, 1 catch? Najee continues to be hit behind the line of scrimmage, and when in doubt throw screens eventhough it takes 3-4 seconds to set up and the defense is already in the backfield as the ball is snapped. If Warren doesn’t break that 74 yard TD run, they get maybe 6 points total. Warren was the hot hand and they stopped giving him the ball. Kenny has showed he is not the guy under Canada, but Canada has shown no QB is good enough to make him look good.

EmoJ1000

Is Kenny calling all these stupid screen plays over and over? Canada hasn't improved since joining the sideline, the run game has improved since BroJo started at RT, that's it. Canada puts the offense in situations that make them bad. He's lucky that Warren is an absolute unit that can't be solo tackled. I don't think Kenny will ever be in contention with the likes of Mahomes, but with a better OC, he can put the offense in winning situations without having to rely on the defense to do it.

EIIander

Canada clearly doesn’t trust Kenny to hit anything besides screen plays, and after the last three weeks I don’t blame him.

HumbleGenius1225

The real question is why did the Steelers draft him where and when they did? It was a reach and the pick hasn't looked any better since.

AC127

Some dude posted like a month ago about how we should try to get Fields and he got massively clowned on. I’m taking Fields over Kenny right now in a heartbeat.

Slagthor_

And we let Dobbs go
