As a Blues fan it’s easy to thing we got screwed but Ron Caron was clearly tampering and trying to game the system in a way no GM had before and the league has to come down hard on that kind of action or risk delegitimizing the league’s image. I disagree. This was collusion by the league and the other teams to punish the Blues for offering salaries that would push salaries up around the league. Caron took advantage of the rules in place in a way no one else was doing because the owners wanted to suppress salaries and it pissed everyone else off. If the Shanny signing was “illegal” because the Blues didn’t own their own first round picks, then that signing should have been voided, but what really happened was far more punitive.
Like teams (Vegas and tampa) gaming the salary cap? Teams have been trying to game the system in every sport forever, and still do. Blues got screwed here
