*The Swerve: How the World Became Modern* - Stephen Greenblatt
If you want some fiction:
+ *The Shadow of the Wind* - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
+ *The Book of Lost Things* - John Connolly
+ *The Thirteenth Tale* - Diane Setterfield
+ *People of the Book* - Geraldine Brooks
+ *Fahrenheit 451* - Ray Bradbury
I read it for an assignment in highschool and it blew me away, it really opened up a whole new world of literature for me. I didn’t even realize how western everything I was reading was and how that shaped my view on lit as a whole. Still recommend to this day!

Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde. I never hear anyone talking about it but it’s super creative. It’s about Thursday Next who is a literary detective.
Came here to recommend Thursday Next! Such a fun series. The first book incorporates Jane Eyre into the plot- Thursday discovers she can travel into books and accidentally changes the ending of Jane Eyre to what we know it today.
Also the little tidbits at the beginning of each chapter are great.
I had friend give me that synopsis so its the one I use- the books are so much more and it definitely didn't prepare me for them. One of my favorite series!
A Gentle Madness: Bibliophiles, Bibliomanes and the Eternal Passion for Books by Nicholas A. Basbanes
The Book of William: How Shakespeare's First Folio Conquered the World by Paul Collins
“The Leader's Bookshelf” by James G. Stavridis and R. Manning Ancell
“On Reading Well: Finding the Good Life Through Great Books” by Karen Swallow Prior
I have a board on Pinterest..go have a look I also love the genre. Also Open Library and Internet Archive have TONS.Just put Books about Books in search box.(my board Pat.NZ
Also, to a lesser extent, _Humans_ by Matt Haig (an alien is posing as a college professor and learns how to "be him" better by reading the books he wrote).
Three nonfiction titles:
**'84, Charing Cross Road'** by Helene Hanff
**'The Diary of a Bookseller'** by Shaun Bythell
**'The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu'** by Joshua Hammer
Why Read the Classics, by Italo Calvino.
Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts, by Christopher i-forget-his-name. Non-fiction, it's about the authors impressions as he handles really old manuscripts.
