My guess is the artist only books full day appointments- and this is the tattoo OP wanted.
My artist also doesn't charge by the hour- he only does full day sessions.
Usually his full day sessions are 8-9 hours (including 2-3 breaks)
All of my artists charge by the day but this would be billed as a half day session and theyād get you out in 2 hours 3 MAX and that would be a stretch. It makes no sense to take 7 hours on this unless yall just feel like hanging out and bullshitting. Artist could make more money by booking an entire extra half day session after this.
You should look at my posts. They eye bust I have took 4.5 and is way more complex. 7 hours is insane. Beautiful tattoo, but damn I couldn't imagine it taking 7 hours
Itās gorgeous! It looks very clean.
Iād really love to see everyone else post pictures of their 2 hour comparison tattoos. I think that would really help quantify whether or not it āshould haveā taken that long.
All artist work at different paces, this artist obviously does clean work and it shows. Everyone complaining about 7 hours for a back/ side piece is honestly kinda crazy.
yeah itās out of this world. op got scammed even if the artist was a junior. i donāt understand why i get downvoted. my tattoo artist is 23, she is a junior as well but she is able to rock fucking big detailed pieces of the size of my torso in that amount of time
It was more like 6 hours of actual tattooing really. I had a few breaks but it was quite fiddly with the angles and sheās a junior artist so maybe that has something to do with it?
Exactly.
The eraser isn't cheap or painless on this kind of thing. Easy to screw up if you're in a hurry.
It looks great and OP doesn't seem destitute or harmed by a few hours of sitting in a chair, so I say we cut the artist some slack
I agree that 7 hours is kinda excessive, but it is a delicate piece and for a junior's work the termination is impressive. Also, being able to do something like this while you are technically still learning is an invaluable experience, and the customer is satisfied, which is the most important thing
I donāt care what anyone says about how long it took. It looks great and itās nice to see that fine line floral style that is popular now in smaller pieces turned into a large one. 10/10.
Totally agree, the time is the least important thing here considering this art will last for life. Itās really beautiful and unique, and looks very skilled for a junior.
Beautifully elegant and I love the way it flows with your body. My favorite kind of tattoos have this ornamental approach and engage directly with the body rather than just being an image that happens to be tattooed on an arm or a leg.
Love the end product. Large coverage with fine lines & tons of open space is a totally unlooked art form I think.
Can hardly imagine sitting seven hours for this?! but whatever it looks great.
I have HUGE detailed lovely tattoos that only took 3-4 hours how on EARTH is this a 7 hour tattoo lmfao. I hope you didn't get charged hourly cause that is absurd
I love it! Everyone has different pain tolerance. I do think everyone is correct this is not 7 hours. My recent tattoo was 3.5 hours and a more detailed than yours. We just donāt want you getting overcharged but if youāre happy and comfortable so be it!
Agree that 7 hours doesn't match with the tattoo- unless maybe is it stick and poke? Not had any experience with that but it is supposed to take longer.
Regardless of the time- it's a beautiful tattoo, the linework and the placement are both lovely and that's the most important part.
I get it. This took time. This is an exquisite piece. Yeah, it was fiddley at times. There is a ton of thought that went into the composition and execution of her first. It is gorgeous and will definitely be a memorable piece. Kudos to your tattooist. And to you.
Thatās a really well done, extremely pretty tattoo! Great first piece, sure it might have taken 7 hours, but well worth it with the quality of those lines!
If sheās a junior artist, and didnāt charge a ton, 7 hours makes sense. No matter what, this is exceptionally beautiful and I would be so proud to have something like it on my body!
Looks great! I respect that the artist took his time to get it right, rather than rushing to finish it āon timeā. Heāll get quicker the longer he tattoos for but he did a really good job
Looks great! I respect that the artist took his time to get it right, rather than rushing to finish it āon timeā. Heāll get quicker the longer he tattoos for but he did a really good job
Looks great! I respect that the artist took his time to get it right, rather than rushing to finish it āon timeā. Heāll get quicker the longer he tattoos for but he did a really good job
I think it's beautiful! Kinda sad that the top comment couldn't even compliment you on it. I am glad you're happy with it, and that's all that matters!
beautiful! flows super nicely around your waist. and the people commenting about the time havenāt zoomed in to see that the dotwork shading on the leaves is individual pointillism, not whip shading
The simplicity is really beautiful. You should be really happy with that.
Also ..., You have an adorably beautiful back. What a perfect location for that tattoo.
I hope that you can disregard al of the negative comments that really mean nothing helpful.
Smile and be proud about what a pretty choice you made.

7 hours for that is crazy
I swear lmao. What was it a 2 hour tattoo with a 5 hour break in between?
The fell asleep for 5
5 hours to get the stencil *just* right
You know they made a ton off her and loved every minute of it. š
Maybe sheās 17 feet tall
Yeah I was thinking the same thingā¦
Lmfaooooo 7 hours and a legit half sleeve is done You got GOT bad
At least itās clean and done well
To be fair I had a few breaks and it was quite fiddly with all the angles
still seems excessive. this is a 2 hour piece _with_ breaks at the longest.
Itās done now though right? Itās over and sheās happy. I think it looks great.
Here's hoping she got charged for the piece and not by the hour
My guess is the artist only books full day appointments- and this is the tattoo OP wanted. My artist also doesn't charge by the hour- he only does full day sessions. Usually his full day sessions are 8-9 hours (including 2-3 breaks)

Nobodyās criticizing the tattoo! Itās just so long and I hope she didnāt get overcharged
Nobody's saying it looks bad, we're just pointing out it's bullshit the artist took 7 hours.
Tbf they took a 4hr lunch break and ran some errands
As long as the artist didn't charge by the hour
i think itās fair and valid to question the amount of time a tattooer needs
I could see 3-4 hours.
You should look at my posts. They eye bust I have took 4.5 and is way more complex. 7 hours is insane. Beautiful tattoo, but damn I couldn't imagine it taking 7 hours
7 hours is insane. My hannya is nearly my entire shin and took like 2.5hrs. https://ibb.co/ZYQxGGc
Ridiculous. I hope you didnāt pay by the hour OP!
Yeah I had a much more complex line work tattoo done in about an hour and a half...
Are you being charge by the hour? Thatās high way robbery.
babes i got my whole stomach tatted in that amount of time
Itās gorgeous! It looks very clean. Iād really love to see everyone else post pictures of their 2 hour comparison tattoos. I think that would really help quantify whether or not it āshould haveā taken that long.
This was about 2.5 hours https://ibb.co/ZYQxGGc
It shows
U got scammed dog
All artist work at different paces, this artist obviously does clean work and it shows. Everyone complaining about 7 hours for a back/ side piece is honestly kinda crazy.
Yeah, thereās no way. My back piece took 7 straight hours. And thereās a lot going on lol
I got almost a full sleeve in that time
I was like wait, whyyyyy 7 hours š
I have way more detailed tattoos that took about 2-2.5 hours. I don't understand 7 hours for this?? What were they even doing
My line work chest piece was only 9 hours!
my whole stomach and rips were done in 7 hours (look at my profile) that shit is 1 hour max
Hard agree. 7 hours is insane for something so small. I have a portrait that takes up my entire stomach and that was only 5 hours.
yeah itās out of this world. op got scammed even if the artist was a junior. i donāt understand why i get downvoted. my tattoo artist is 23, she is a junior as well but she is able to rock fucking big detailed pieces of the size of my torso in that amount of time
7 hours seems a tad too much for that. I hope they didnt overcharge you for that long a session for that minimalist of a tattoo.
Thatās not a tad too much. Thatās way too much. This is a three to four hour tattoo max. Iād be stunned to hear it took a full four hours.
I was trying to be polite about it lol
Even 4 hours is way too much. Thatās 2 hours max.
More like 1-2 hours from the artists I go to lol
My half sleeve took like 4 hours lmao
My full chest took like 8-9 and itās full color so for this to take almost as much timeā¦?
Looks great, but why did it take so long?
It was more like 6 hours of actual tattooing really. I had a few breaks but it was quite fiddly with the angles and sheās a junior artist so maybe that has something to do with it?
Fair enough, suppose the outcomes more important and it looks class!
Junior makes sense. I had a (reasonably experienced) apprentice do a very detailed shoulderblade-upper arm piece in 5.
Very nice piece, definitely something for the artist to be proud of I'm sure she'll get faster with time, those lines are very clean!
6 hours for this?! Fuck me, that artist must have had a bill to pay or something. Thatās a 2 hour tattoo at max.
Iād rather have my junior artist take extra time and get a clean outcome.
Exactly. The eraser isn't cheap or painless on this kind of thing. Easy to screw up if you're in a hurry. It looks great and OP doesn't seem destitute or harmed by a few hours of sitting in a chair, so I say we cut the artist some slack
That's totally fine as long as they're not charging by the hour.
I agree that 7 hours is kinda excessive, but it is a delicate piece and for a junior's work the termination is impressive. Also, being able to do something like this while you are technically still learning is an invaluable experience, and the customer is satisfied, which is the most important thing
I've had an apprentice work on me as well! :) beautiful work but by god were they S L O W. looks great!
Itās beautiful!
What does āfiddly with the angles mean?ā
I really hope you didnāt pay by the hour, thatās basically a scam.
It's really beautiful!!
Itās very well done but damn 7 hours? Looks like a 2-3 hour piece haha. Looks good though!
2 hours tops.
OP said it was a junior artist, good on them for taking their time to deliver quality work. Gotta get the experience somewhere.
Like others have said, 7 hours seems quite long, but the results are exceptional. Awesome tattoo, happy for you!
I hope you didnāt pay hourly for this because seven hours is wild. Itās a nice tattoo though I really like the way it looks
I donāt care what anyone says about how long it took. It looks great and itās nice to see that fine line floral style that is popular now in smaller pieces turned into a large one. 10/10.
Op said they were a junior apprentice too, I'm hoping it wasn't charged much because it shouldn't have taken that long but it does look immaculate
Iāve known some apprentice artists and they all were unable to charge anything and were restricted to smaller pieces.
Unable to charge anything? So a free tattoo?
My wife got a free tattoo that way.
Totally agree, the time is the least important thing here considering this art will last for life. Itās really beautiful and unique, and looks very skilled for a junior.
Itās still shouldnāt take that long unless this thing was hand pokedā¦and even thenā¦
It looks awesome!
Thanks!
Beautiful placement and lines!! Also confused at 7 hours, but it looks unique and delicate. Great first tattoo choice!
That's a really nice looking tattoo! Beautiful
I think it looks great!
Looks awesome and the lines are great
Beautiful
Beautiful and classy
Looks great! I haven't had any done in that area but i bet where it wraps around the side to the stomach was a bit of an interesting feeling lol
Not a fan of the feeling for sure š
Beautifully elegant and I love the way it flows with your body. My favorite kind of tattoos have this ornamental approach and engage directly with the body rather than just being an image that happens to be tattooed on an arm or a leg.
super clean, love it
It's beautiful, looks great!
Looks really nice. Nicely done.
Love the end product. Large coverage with fine lines & tons of open space is a totally unlooked art form I think. Can hardly imagine sitting seven hours for this?! but whatever it looks great.
Its well done and a flattering position and flow . Some tattoo artists take their time and it usually shows in the work . Its a nice piece.
I donāt care how long it took, thatās a fantastic looking piece of work.
7 hours?
I have HUGE detailed lovely tattoos that only took 3-4 hours how on EARTH is this a 7 hour tattoo lmfao. I hope you didn't get charged hourly cause that is absurd
Same here, with full color and everything, this shouldāve taken 1-2 hrs tops unless she kept tapping out
In no universe should a tattoo this simple be 7 hours. Yāall are letting these Instagram tattooers rip you off
Weāre you charged by the hour?? Nice tattoo but thatās crazy if you were.
Looks amazing š
So dainty and sexy! Good job!
That is great line-work and the flow/design of the tattoo is beautiful.
Hmm that's good work perfect lines, simple, elegant a very good tattoo. It's awesome
As a stand alone piece i think it's very stated and very elegant.
I love it! Everyone has different pain tolerance. I do think everyone is correct this is not 7 hours. My recent tattoo was 3.5 hours and a more detailed than yours. We just donāt want you getting overcharged but if youāre happy and comfortable so be it!
Very minimalist, looks beautiful! It mightāve taken long, but it was worth the effort! It looks like a perfectionistās dream.
Thatās dope as hell. Solid line work!
7 hours? I just canāt see how it would take that long. Nice piece but thatās weird. They didnāt charge you the hour did they?
No they didnāt ! Not to worry :)
I think itās very delicate and feminine and complements your body nicely with the placement. Absolutely beautiful.
At least itās good. Time be damned, itās on you forever. Itās great work
It's gorgeous š, but there's NO WAY that should have taken 7 hours!
Thatās a lot of smoke breaks.
Very elegant.
Agree that 7 hours doesn't match with the tattoo- unless maybe is it stick and poke? Not had any experience with that but it is supposed to take longer. Regardless of the time- it's a beautiful tattoo, the linework and the placement are both lovely and that's the most important part.
Thatās some really beautiful line work.
Those are some beautiful lines.
Super clean
This is GORGEOUS
This is so gorgeous and works so well with the body. Artist did a great job. Iām glad this wasnāt rushed.
That is stunning. I hope you have just that one done. It is so striking and elegant the way it curves around you - it's very beautiful.
I get it. This took time. This is an exquisite piece. Yeah, it was fiddley at times. There is a ton of thought that went into the composition and execution of her first. It is gorgeous and will definitely be a memorable piece. Kudos to your tattooist. And to you.
I agree 7 hours is crazy. But it is beautiful!
That's a beautiful first tat!
Looks great. Bet that wrap around part was tender.
Absolutely lovely!
Itās really good though !
Very pretty
It's so pretty! :D
Beautiful

Didnāt read the comments but hopefully you got lots of support for how amazing it looks. Bravo š
7 hours?? I had a good portion of my very colorful half sleeve for that
Itās lovely, very flattering!

Itās beautiful, never seen anything like this before.
OMG I absolutely LOVE it!!
ohhh wwow nice
Beautiful
Thatās a really well done, extremely pretty tattoo! Great first piece, sure it might have taken 7 hours, but well worth it with the quality of those lines!
I gasped. Itās lovely!
That's just stunning. This is what a female tat was meant to be! š
If sheās a junior artist, and didnāt charge a ton, 7 hours makes sense. No matter what, this is exceptionally beautiful and I would be so proud to have something like it on my body!
In 20 years you'll have forgotten how long it took, but you'll still have what is a fantastic tattoo! I really like it!
Beautiful work!
Looks great! I respect that the artist took his time to get it right, rather than rushing to finish it āon timeā. Heāll get quicker the longer he tattoos for but he did a really good job

I hope they charged by the piece and not the hour
Very well done! The way it flows and location on your body also help make it a great piece. Congrats!
I think it's beautiful! Kinda sad that the top comment couldn't even compliment you on it. I am glad you're happy with it, and that's all that matters!
That is beautiful.
I mean itās beautiful so who cares how long it tookā¦. Could have been on a different subreddit complaining
Thatās a gorgeous piece.
Stunning!! Looooove the wrap around!!
Looks great! Donāt listen to these shmucks 90% donāt have a better guy. Maybe faster lol
Very nicely done with a beautiful flow. Great work for a junior artist and glad they took the time to get it right.
Did they charge you for 7hours.....cause they got you if you did
If you got charged by the hour you got scammed.
To get that quality of line work I would not mind paying for seven hours. Hope she went deep enough for it to last
beautiful! flows super nicely around your waist. and the people commenting about the time havenāt zoomed in to see that the dotwork shading on the leaves is individual pointillism, not whip shading
That's a brilliant tattoo!
Such an elegant design. Very nice line work from the artist, as well.
You didnāt overpay. It looks amazing
7 HOURS? wtf? It looks good but thatās like 1 maybeeee 2 hours lol
Lot of ppl commenting on the time. Sure, maybe a bit long, but this is a nice tattoo and fits your body very well
7 hours is excessive for sure. I really hope he didnāt charge you by the hour.
The simplicity is really beautiful. You should be really happy with that. Also ..., You have an adorably beautiful back. What a perfect location for that tattoo. I hope that you can disregard al of the negative comments that really mean nothing helpful. Smile and be proud about what a pretty choice you made.
This looks amazing, it definitely took a long time, but you got a really good result. Solid linework, I love it
That's a beautiful piece
I donāt like tattoos normally but this is very tasteful.
7 hours?! That is bananas. I've had full front of thigh pieces done in less time. It looks pretty though
BEAUTIFUL <3 !!!
Simple yet elegant
Seven hours!?!?!?
20mins
You got rinsed. This is not a 7 hour piece
No way this is more than 2 hours of actual tattooingā¦. Iāve done many 6 hour sessions and the amount of coverage in comparison is night and day
