He comes back every once in a while for a big match or show. Cena loves it so much that I think he makes sure to leave a couple of months between roles to wrestle.
Lesnar/Rock/Cena are all part-timers/retired that regularly show up for big shows and matches and then disappear for months. Part of the appeal is not knowing WHEN they'll come back but they suck all narratives toward them like a creative black hole.
The part time thing sort of started when they turned Cena into an unbeatable Superman character and the remaining 90s holdovers(Kang,Undertaker,HHH) couldn’t be there every show once they reached their early 40s.
I hadn’t watched wrestling in a long time but I had a buddy in from out of town who dabbles so we watched Royal Rumble on Saturday. It blew my mind when he told me they were pumping Cody Rhodes as a face. The guy seriously looks like a caricature of an 80s movie villain.
Gonna push back here lol Lesnar has done a bunch in terms of helping others get over and that’s literally all Cena does nowadays is get the younger guys over. Not a creative black hole at all they actually help out the current generation
Will not argue about Rock at all though
John doesn't book the matches though? Not at all his fault he agreed to put over Theory but WWE didn't do anything with it... But that's not on Cena at all
Dwayne Johnson does not show up regularly lmao. That dude shows up like once every 5 years. Cena definitely still loved wrestling more than Dwayne does
Nah I would say cena is the only one that doesn’t pull down the narrative. Whenever he comes back, it’s to push a new star especially with LA Knight now. The best part is they are self aware of it now, so whenever an actor wrestler comes back, they always bring it up.
During the strike he came back for a couple months, he only wrestled in two televised matches (on "premium live events", what they call PPVs now) but he was on Smackdown every week cutting promos and feuding with Roman Reigns's faction. He won the first match teaming with a guy they're trying to get over into the main event (LA Knight) and lost the other (singles match with a young guy in Roman's faction, Solo Sikoa). Put him over good too. At Wrestlemania earlier this year he put over another young guy (Austin Theory). So yeah very doubtful he'll ever win a title again or anything like that.
This. Even the Rock was making pops still at his age. He appeared on RAW a few weeks ago.
It would be nice if RAW would stop focusing on all these has beens. Undertaker is only going into retirement and wrestled as a shell as his former self for years
For the most part they have, especially since Vince got out of creative. The main event scene right now, particularly on Raw, is the most stacked it’s been in well over a decade, and all with current, full time stars.

(Seeing it for the first time in 2018 I swear to God I've never laughed harder at a moment in a movie)
Deak: "Do you have any idea what we are gonna do to you, if we find one itty, bitty scratch on 'em?"
Shep Ramsey: "Let me guess. You're gonna pound my face. Break every bone in my body. Then you're gonna drag me across a gravel road and feed my remains to a warthog. Is that about right?"
Deak: "What are you nuts? This is the '90s. We're gonna sue you."
Probably the best. (Sorry Dave.) Was so stoked that Dwayne became the actor back in the day but most of his Hollywood career has been boring. Cena on the other hand is a pretty enjoyable actor.
I watched The Marine a few years ago and thought Cena was probably not going to make it in movies. But he must have hit the acting classes hard since that movie came out because he's done exceptionally well with his recent roles.
Dude is genuinely enjoyable to watch.
I thought he had when he lost to Solo Sikoa last year in Saudi Arabia.
It's kind of funny because outside WWE, I like John Cena, it's just that every time he's returned to the ring, it reminds me of the past 19 years of despising him and wanting him gone due to the meh matches, childish and homophobic promos and the fact WWE had him basically beat anyone who was interesting to keep him on top at the expense of more talented and entertaining wrestlers.
Why do they never use pictures of him in articles about him? What does 92NY and American Airlines have to do with John Cena? I mean if he were standing in front it, I could understand… but this..?
TIL he is still In the WWE, I thought he had transition completely to acting (outside the ring)
He comes back every once in a while for a big match or show. Cena loves it so much that I think he makes sure to leave a couple of months between roles to wrestle.
What kind of role does he play in WWE now? I kinda assume they aren't having him compete in/win title matches anymore with his sporadic schedule?

Yeah might want to ask Theory how that Cena rubbed helped him out last year at mania.
John doesn't book the matches though? Not at all his fault he agreed to put over Theory but WWE didn't do anything with it... But that's not on Cena at all
Dwayne Johnson does not show up regularly lmao. That dude shows up like once every 5 years. Cena definitely still loved wrestling more than Dwayne does
He showed up like 4 times in the past calender year
He showed up twice in the calendar year. Before that he hadn’t showed up since 2016 which was 7 years ago lol
Yeah he's pretty rare but he's about to steal the spotlight for the upcoming WrestleMania for the main event with Roman
Not if Cody finishes his story.
Looks like my man is getting robbed of that moment. I hope not though
Rock does it more for publicity. Hes been on a bit more this year cause he’s had a few flops in Hollywood recently (black Adam).
tbf, Cena is not running the same kind of empire that the rock is lol
It's amusing that the movie fame of Bautista - Cena - The Rock is the reverse of their acting skills.

Putting rock in that same category is definitely not accurate

Mostly to put over younger talent, he lost his match at last years wrestlemania to an up and comer
[удалено]
Wait, what? WWE is preplanned?!?!?! /s
Them saying that he's putting them over implies that they know its pre-planned. Wrestling fans know more about how fake it is than you do.
He wears the bikini and shows the round card in between matches. No one asked him. He just does it
Now I want to see this
>Now I want to see this It's Cena, so you won't.
He's mostly in the role of helping younger talent to get over or to help the ratings with the occasional appearance.
He loses so the person beating him gets more love from the fans. Hes essentially boosting their popularity.
That’s kinda like what the Rock did
He came back during the strike. Other than that, I think you're right.
Yea he has toned down honestly, thought he dipped when Peacemaker came out.
He usually has at least one match per year to keep up his streak.
Same
I’m glad i wasn’t the only one. I thought he dropped it awhile ago since he became a Hollywood celebrity and started soing films
“My time is up, your time is now!”
"You can't see me ,my time is now"
"You can see me, your time is now!"
You're never fully retired in wrestling (short of a career ending injury)

He just had shoulder surgery.
And Edge broke his neck and retired for real. He *definitely* didn't just get the shit beat out of him by Minoru Suzuki a few hours ago.
Heard Hulk Hogan was gonna retire pretty soon too
The difference is Cena is a good actor
True but as a kid, Suburban Commando was amazing
I love No Holds Barred but in hindsight that script was co-authored by cocaine
Cocaine is awesome. No Holds Barred is awesome.

This is 3 Ninjas 3 Erasure

And isn't racist.
He's great as Peacemaker, and hopefully the Peacemaker DLC for MK1 is released soon.
Probably the best. (Sorry Dave.) Was so stoked that Dwayne became the actor back in the day but most of his Hollywood career has been boring. Cena on the other hand is a pretty enjoyable actor.
Cena is pretty great but he's no Dave Bautista. Not even close
Cenas a better entertainer for sure
He’d better soon so he can keep his children out of jail.
I can't see him doing this anytime soon
You can't see him at all.
I will never, ever understand why Redditors upvote the person who reiterates/explains the joke over the person who made the joke in the first place.
Sadly I think for most it's that they didn't get it until it was (over) explained.
You’re probably right, unfortunately. It would explain why fewer comedies get made these days relative to dramas.
Why you hating?

Nahh. That was because it was a WWE produced movie. I doubt they had all-star cast and crew
I'd really like to see a second season of Peacemaker. never seen anything with Cena in before, but that show was so entertaining and over the top
Start making those Ernest P. Worrell movies!
I would watch the shit out of John Cena saves Christmas.
Oh man, I’ll never not see the John Cena/Earnest comparison going forward. It would be epic for it to happen and he could pull it off.
His time is up and someone else's time is now.
Why are they showing us a photo of a wall advertisement? I thought the article was about John Cena.
I thought he had already since he's been busy in Hollywood
So now we can't see him?
Thought he was already retired, tbh.
How old is he? I thought the retirement age in China is 60. He looks good
Thank goodness! I'd like a heel turn first though!
[удалено]
Nah just turn heel & defeat Roman Reigns for Universal title.
He can be their China outreach and promotions officer.
CCP talking head?
I guess we won’t see him anymore
We are not gonna see him.
Please retire from acting as well.
If the CCP allows it
who?
Why a picture of two logos?

What does that even mean though? Could he not just come and go as he pleases? Retiring from playing pretend… okay.
All acting is just playing pretend. Wrestlers just do their own stunts. Stunts that *hurt*. A *lot*.
Wrestling may be largly staged, but the performance is highly physical and demanding. People injure themselves and occasionally die playing pretend.
Why do they never use pictures of him in articles about him? What does 92NY and American Airlines have to do with John Cena? I mean if he were standing in front it, I could understand… but this..?
Who cares about this on the television subreddit?
Wrestling is on TV every week
Where do you think people watch WWE?
Conversely, John Cena's upper lip says it has no intentions of leaving the WWE
Isn’t he an actor now and just waiting out his wassion contact?
One of the most dominant fruity pebbles to ever do it.
Sounds like he made peace with his decision.
His time is up, his time is soon. We won’t seen him
Cena bout to walk out in a salmon jacket
Wait, I thought he was already retired?
Then he will reignite the Ernest series as Vern's long lost son.
He hasn’t retired? But he’s doing movies and shows and shit…
this guy's my childhood hero, loved the dude since i was 5 years old. Will be so sad when he retires :(
The time is now!
I guess I assumed he was retired from WWE. he's got so many non wrestling projects in flight, how does he have time to wrestle?
He's already got a new job as China's ambassador to Hollywood.
I didn’t see that coming..
Bing chilling
Maybe he will move to China
I wish he would quit pretending to be an actor instead. Same goes with the Pebble.
Cena distancing himself from WWE even before today's story came out lol
Tired of supporting Saudi Arabia?
