Here is a video of them using pepper spray on the protesters.

I suspect it's important to reemphasize as often as possible... even though Austin is a cool city, the people who the voters have put in charge are moronic, violent bigots that pride themselves on always selecting the option that optimizes for stupidity or cruelty.
It's worth remembering that lots of cool cities don't have that problem.
Was at a clients house yesterday morning and they always have fox on
The way fox News spoke about Columbia and the lack of action against protestor as opposed to the praise for Texas and their abuse of portestors was sickening
Fox hosts literally couldn't focus on their guest speakers because they all wanted to catch the cops throwing portestors to the ground so they could smile and brag to the viewers about how well Texas is handling this issue
Then anytime a guest speakers starts saying something that makes sense but doesn't follow the fox news storyline they cut them off to show us a close up of four cops arresting a woman on the street of NY outside Columbia because you know rhetoric.
Oh dont forget fox News cut off the Columbia portestors speaking to media because she started to make to much damn sense
Those grenades could easily cause a panic. That could have easily caused people to run into a street with cars going back and forth. This is something that could have caused death for no explainable gain. And BTW- if there was a death caused by this; the police could claim qualified immunity, and in the press would report it as "death caused by riot at Texas school."
Have a problem and call the police? Now you have two problems.
It looked like that was what they were going for. Pushing the crowd into the street and then setting off grenades of any kind seems like it was meant to try and get people hit by traffic when they scrambled
American cops and Mossad are so cozy that Sacha Baron Cohen based an entire character in his last series on the relationship. That’s how he got a Georgia state Senator to [run at him ass-first with his pants down](https://youtu.be/4k4pMTsa1Kw?si=86n2i6kjfq6rl6ve)
Yep. Funny how they're a bunch of chickenshits when dealing with one person with a gun but get all tough and macho when dealing with peaceful protestors. It's fucking disgusting.
What's even funnier is cops will shake hands pat on the back and hangout with Republican proud boys walking the streets with guns happily but are terrified of their drinking buddies kid who took those ideologies and parents wanna be threats to heart and now it's too scary to confront the product of youf creation
That's police, none of these dudes give a shit about the public, or the law, they are all just living out a power fantasy.
They would have gone into the military if they weren't so physically amorphous.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uvalde_school_shooting
Hundreds of "brave officers," from several different departments, standing around listening to children being murdered behind an unlocked door for over an hour. Smiling and joking when not visibly cowering in their boots. Making up excuses as to why they are failures as cops and human beings. Openly told the media they were afraid of being shot. Not a ONE gave a damn. Not a ONE (out of hundreds) had the courage to confront one shooter, who was slaughtering small children on the other side of the door. All of them blithering cowards.
The absolute, complete, and total definition of cowardice.
*edit - removed comment because I thought this was directly across from CoOp. ****
If you are talking about the traffic going across, that’s not school property on the other side of Guadalupe. It’s all businesses , food and shopping. It’s one of the major streets that run north to south in that part of the city, it wouldn’t get shut down without good cause.
> That’s not a street the white van was on. I am not sure why it was driving there, it’s not a road. As a matter of fact there’s supposed to be a fountain there. 🤷🏻♀️
It is a street. This is 22nd. You're thinking of the pedestrian only crossing from the East Mall towards the Coop around where "23rd" would be.

It's public property so the validity of the "gun free" thing can seriously come into question...BUT...if a thousand people show up open-carrying it's not like they're going to do anything about it. They wouldn't even do anything about one guy with a gun in a school actually hurting people.
It's more of these students won't have the extra money to buy a gun and no place to store it. If you want to go distributing guns, i'll help hand out but not pay for all that.
Probably because the cops have their Klan hoodies under their uniforms. If those college kids had guns they'd have been executed, 100%.
The right fear an armed left. Guns guns guns until the blue-haired girls and democrats have them, then it's "woah woah aren't you all supposed to be against guns? Hypocrites!" We saw it with the Black Panthers back in the day too.
As Bill Hicks once said, "YOU ARE FREE TO DO WHAT WE TELL YOU". The kids in the middle of this should not give up. Fuck these cops and fuck this fascist bullshit. The sacrifice is worth the price. Fight.
Fight for what? Hamas? TikTok Jihad indoctrination?
I agree people should have the right to protest and have free speech. But their movement is sort of ridiculous
In fact, while the proportionality of Israel's response to the hamas attacks is questionable... This entire protest across the country reeks of state-sponsored orchestration. Iran, China, Russia, and a culmination of various Islamic groups
Alright. Next time there’s a school shooting- make sure to have pro-Palestine protest posters ready to start “protesting”. Kids are sure to get a police response this way! It’s science! /s
I know you're joking, but I actually wouldn't be suprised if this ends up happening. Great coverage, and if the poilce try to break it up they could ask them why not maybe stop the active shooter instead
Complicated answer. The 2nd amendment is a last resort. If you're bringings guns to a protest you aren't protesting, you're getting ready to yank someone out of office. Also the purpose of the 2nd amendment is not recognized by the USA. Nor is it by any country on the planet that wants to stay in power. If you think guns are needed at a protest like this you should be taking out the cops at range not mixed in with asshats with signs. Because you're at war. So you go to a protest with guns, an activity which "shouldn't" involve death in any manner, you're going to get people killed and intend as such.
This is tremendous waste of money and personnel.
* The college students are on a college campus and not really blocking too much traffic.
* The police are just building up anger dealing with peaceful people who are going to make it difficult to arrest and detain them. One is bound to go too far on a protester and end up costing the state money from a legal settlement due to using overly aggressive force.
* The protesters are not going to spend too much time in a county lockup because then where would they put actual offenders. So they will be released quickly without a bail amount.
* Then the protesters can just come right back to get back in with the other protesters. Sure they can block them off but then the protesters can resume the moment the police aren’t in the vicinity to lay hands on the protesters.
Just be thankful the protesters aren’t blocking off overpasses on major highways and forcing traffic onto access roads. Sure traffic can still get thru those areas but it will be at a snail’s pace. And those toll roads can be expensive.
It's not about a practical response to the protests. It's an election year and Abbott wants to appear tough on protestors. Pretty sure the state troopers could gun a few protestors down and it would be an electoral victory for the Texas Republicans. Their voter base is the absolute worst.
Could be correct on abbot. False on a win for republicans. This is ridiculous, I don't agree necessarily with what the students are protesting but the law response to their protests is getting more and more ridiculous. What in the ever living fuck was the point of stun grenades? This isn't a violent protest. If they want to non-violently protest and do so in a fashion that does not impede on others day to day lives, just LET THEM.
While that might be true for you and for some segment of the voter base, there is a very large contingent of voters that believe protestors should be summarily executed for protesting, and they (Abbott and co) are probably calculating on tapping into that.
Being tough on protesting is absolutely polling as good politics among portions of the populace. Being tough on anyone critical of Israel is also appealing to donors, I would imagine.
Create as much chaos as possible so that it looks like the protesters are going nuts and rioting. Basically, trying to justify their intervention by creating mayhem.
It is the law enforcement equivalent of Abbott's policies in schools and the border.
To disrupt normal functions of the campus.
*In 2019, Texas lawmakers passed a free speech law that established all common outdoor areas at public universities as traditional public forums, allowing anyone – not just students and university members – to exercise free speech there, as long as their activities are lawful and don’t disrupt the normal functions of the campus.*
This Is all part of a bigger plan. They want the protests to grow and get violent so they can run against the hippies and peaceniks and antifa in November. They want another BLM to run against.
The bored cops seriously out here trying to re-create the 1963 Children’s March in Birmingham Alabama, they are daydreaming about setting dogs and fire hoses against the students but are limited to stun grenades and pepper spray.
100 percent. I’m pro-Israel and think that some of these kids are misguided, but it’s absolutely insane to use violence to break up a peaceful protest. These students are basically just marching around in circles chanting, if you don’t want to pay attention to them then walk one block away.

[Civilian casualties aren't an unhappy accident here](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/02/gaza-palestinian-children-killed-idf-israel-war), though yeah I'm sure a ton. It's still fair to call out Israel given their track record with ethnic cleansing.
I don't get in the middle of a conflict I don't know enough about, but I agree, people are free to protest as long as it's peaceful. These cops are ridiculous.
We are occupied by Israel. Not sure if dictatorship is the right word, but the situation is not good.
You can speak about literally anything else in this country except for israel. Israel protests gets state troopers lmao
only if you are as delusional as the protesters who are simping for the absolute evil of hamas.
if the us was an actual dictatorship, like trump wants it to be, and these protesters are working to bring about, they would have simply all been shot.
This is really getting out of hand. We all know Abott is using these moments to win votes among his supporters. Sadly one America devours seeing the other America getting hurt. Just so sad :(
Calling these adults “children” minimizes what this is. College students are not children. If you are old enough to vote, and be sent to war to die for the government, you are old enough to protest. These are adults, legally protesting, protected by the constitution.
That’s a busy road at all times of the day. Troopers marching students pushing them into traffic along with other alarming tactics. What was the threat?
So wait, I was watching a documentary last night on the cold war (its on netflix, turning point, really great). Anyway, before the wall fell there were huge 70K+ demonstrations in Leipzig, and then in Berlin. The protestors focused on not being violent, and even chanting "no violence" to the Stasi (the East German secret police).
So was there violence here that justified the stun grenades?
Or are our cops worse than the fucking Stasi???? Because if its the latter, that is a giant leap down the hole of fascism.
It's really something, how courageous they are when they hear those words "nonviolent protestors". If only things worked the same way when someone said the words "school shooter".
I think you remember it differently. The reaction was obviously that this can never happen again, as evidence by the fact that they've worked to make sure it never gets to that point again. However if it does, you can absolutely bet it's fucking open season on cops by people who can blend in with society pretty well, and has actual political pull.
They don't want another Kent State, even if there's a few psychos that do, the participation in the society makes it a requirement that they do not gun down the children of the political class in America.
They know Trump wins if Biden is seen as turning on students..
and GOP governors get to make those calls it seems like.
it's going to increase in intensity as the elections draw closer.
stay fit, stay frosty.
Oh boy, I sure do love violating 1st amendment rights, just like how SB 4 that went into effect recently enables law enforcement to violate 4th amendment rights. Land of the free my ass.
If these were pro-Israel protestors, bet they wouldn't make the news. No one would be trying to remove them. Don't think anyone is pro-Hamas. Hamas and the Israel government are equally as bad.
Yep the issue is there is no good leaders over there just a bunch of powerful men willing to sacrifice civilians for their own power. Even Abbas in the West Bank is corrupt as hell and basically just lining his own pockets.
Cops don't like anti-oppression. That's why they're so gentle with conservatives (white supremacist, pro life/death/rape/bigotry/etc). They let them get away with literal murder. But don't forget the libs who reward them every time they hurt peaceful protesters against fascism. Libs love their fascism 😑
Remember when Texas' finest conjured up this much energy and enthusiasm to help all those little children from getting slaughtered in Uvalde? Oh, wait. They just sat there. Amazing how "brave" they are when the other side isn't fighting back.
They're just violent bullies looking for an excuse to brutalized other people with no repercussions. Absolute fucking losers.
Any injuries from this? I just realized that I don’t really know how stun grenades actually work. I’m guessing it’s a shock wave / noise maker without shrapnel.
Fucking Texas police and dps worthless cowards! Stand around at uvalde for over and hour and a half listening to kids be blown to pieces and slamming their parents outside to the ground but oh yeah more than ready to beat on some ppl exercising their 1st amendment rights when they’re not right wingers that is. They’ll guard gun toting actual anti semitic neo Nazis and give them water but protest for peace and they can’t wait to f u up so Abbott can ride down his ramp to roll over u hate this state
What was the point of that? Stun grenades are used to surprise and disorient suspects in an enclosed area. These people are not criminals, know the police are there, and are outside. Stupid.
There's totally a double standard, compare this to what happened on Jan 6th. One group literally broke into our Capitol, while in session, trying to take leaders hostage and hardly any change in police presence. This group protest, and there's practically an army ready to stop them from the get go.
I'm pretty pro Israel although they've definitely over reached their hand significantly in this war. However these protesters absolutely have the right to protest peacefully, and the militant police response against the constitutional right to protest is absolutely pushing me to side more with the protesters, whereas before I was relatively indifferent.
Here is a video of them using pepper spray on the protesters. https://x.com/juuuled/status/1785083525932151189?s=46&t=KA_EbYCZNe4Jy4B4vbHT0w And another with a cop hitting a protester. https://x.com/anthony_larraga/status/1785060682989207724?s=46&t=KA_EbYCZNe4Jy4B4vbHT0w

State sponsored terrorism? In Texas you say? Color me surprised.

Point of order: Austin is NOT a cool city.
Thanks for reminding me to watch that super trippy creative music video. It really is a strange work of art, and a catchy song.
His videos are hypnotizing to me. Watch the video for Bonfire. It’s a whole other story that the song and it’s amazing.
When will people get this? Come prepared because the police will pop off. You better be ready to as well.
Don't catchu slippin nah
I was a few-days-ago old when I learned Troy from Community IS Childish Gambino..wild
Nothing deescalates a potentially deadly situation like randomly firing off explosives.

It's fucking disgusting. What a bunch of weak little bullies.
Yes this is the police system
hey yeah I was there it was great (terrible)
Proud of you for standing up for yourself and your rights.
I do not go to your school, but what in the fuck this is NOT okay.
The protestors need to ask the Hong Kong protestors their secrets to defending against pepper spray and other attacks.
All nice and ready to shove college kids but nowhere to be found when actual criminal activity and traffic violations are happening. Lol
Those grenades could easily cause a panic. That could have easily caused people to run into a street with cars going back and forth. Ummmm, did you not see the group that did run into the street? I doubt any of them looked for oncoming traffic. Good thing none got hit.
DPS didn’t protect kids at Uvalde but they sure will crack the skulls of non-violent college kids lol.
Yah know, kinda wonder where Ted would be after his push to get guns on university campuses if they all showed up armed?
Duh.. on a tropical vacation.
Cancun perhaps?
Imagine if they were also minorities. Teds’ little peanut brain would melt.
That is why college kids were shouting "Who failed Uvalde ... DPS" at DPS. I think they may have got under their skin.
I thought you said the law was powerless to help me? Powerless to help you, not punish you.
this is what they are trained to do, by the idf
American cops don't need any foreign assistance.
American cops and PDs have relationships with the IDF going back to the early 2000s.
WTF!
Yep. We literally wrote the book.
The IDF training goes back years.
I reckon Abbott sees this as training for when he deploys the DPS on the rest of us for disagreeing with him.
All you gotta do is practice you're 2nd amendment right to bear arms and suddenly they won't be anywhere in the general vicinity.
This i agree with... the traffic violations i witness daily are astronomical.
Because they know there’s zero risk none of those students are carrying.
Bingo!
Are these the same guys that were pissing their pants during Uvalde?
Yup,same ones.....its easier to go up against someone unarmed

My person theory is that the kids chanting "Who failed Uvalde ... DPS" at them got under their skin.
Like the little bitches they are

Well, yeah, but that guy had a gun. Could you imagine if the good guys didn't...have... courage?
They had courage, but they replaced it with Keurig.
They don’t even have traffic blocked off?
Yeah, lucky nobody sprinted from the grenades in front of that bus...
Police or protestors?
Yes
All the barricades are still sitting on 6th for when 5pm rolls around.

Ah. Yeah from the clip and the bus stopping there I thought it was the crosswalk in front of the CoOP
If they only wore Nazi Signs and flew a Rebel Flag the Texas Police would ignore them and probably even offer Police Protection\\Escort.
Probably cause those goofnuts are armed. The college students should arm themselves
It’s an open carry state no?
Well yes but must colleges are gun free
UT has campus carry, but only for people 21 and above, which isn't going to be most undergrads.
It's public property so the validity of the "gun free" thing can seriously come into question...BUT...if a thousand people show up open-carrying it's not like they're going to do anything about it. They wouldn't even do anything about one guy with a gun in a school actually hurting people.

They could honestly open carry water guns and shoot the police with them. The police can’t tell the difference anyways LOL Good way to get shot though
They could also just play under acorn trees, those set off cops i hear :p
More likely they just didn’t want to have to arrest their buddies.
Probably because the cops have their Klan hoodies under their uniforms. If those college kids had guns they'd have been executed, 100%. The right fear an armed left. they would be fine people
Free speech until those people in power take it away smh. So much for a god given right

Well yeah these protestors aren't armed.
It has started, pig sympathizers are reporting my account for self harm. They really hate to hear the truth.
you should be able to report them if they're using reddit helps
Report them back. It can get them banned.
A question, why arent they? Isnt the 2nd ammendment there for moments like this?
Complicated answer. The 2nd amendment is a last resort. If you're bringings guns to a protest you aren't protesting, you're getting ready to yank someone out of office. Copying and pasting your comment down the line.
If there is one thing Texas police know about best, it is allowing students to be harmed while they sit around and watch.
Greg Abbott's world. Vote accordingly in the next state elections.
Texans are stupid — they’re gonna vote Abbott right back in.
They’ll vote for Abbott *because* of this
They’ll vote for Abbot because they’re afraid of letting the liberals win, while being unable to define “liberals.”

Eventually that is a losing strategy. I can't vote for abbot, as a republican. Eventually enough republicans get tired of stupid shit.
Imagine if the response had been like this in uvalde?
I’m pretty sure they used a similar response on the parents of the students being murdered .
Why are they moving them Into a busy street like that.
Create as much chaos as possible so that it looks like the protesters are going nuts and rioting. Basically, trying to justify their intervention by creating mayhem. It is the law enforcement equivalent of Abbott's policies in schools and the border.
Basically, kettling, and it's sad that it has a term. (Edited for a word)
Well then the police get to claim that they were blocking traffic, and make them look like the bad guys.
They wanna make it look like a riot
Oh wow, I expected them to cause a big panic and rush of people running away, but the second one didn’t seem to phase anyone at all.
There have been nearly constant protests of all sorts of stuff for 30 years in this area at UT - largely without incident until now
This Is all part of a bigger plan. They want the protests to grow and get violent so they can run against the hippies and peaceniks and antifa in November. They want another BLM to run against.
Where's that second amendment crowd defending their children's right to protest?
If only. Sure as shit: second amendment rights will be enforced by EVERYONE if the fascists keep this shit up.
Those dangerous protesters standing there the horror /s
They're just standing there... _menacingly_.
Leave them alone. As long as they’re not hurting anyone who cares.
>I’m pro-Israel [34,000 dead Palestinians, most being women and children](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/20/gaza-death-toll-passes-34000-israel-iran) since October 11th. Supporting Israel is reprehensible, especially after so much death. Edit: To all the people defending Israel to me, please do your homework first. Israel's reaction to Oct 11th is disproportionate and there's a reason why the international community is calling it genocide. I wonder how many civilians died at the hands of the allies as they fought the literal nazis.
I wonder why January 6th they the left the criminals almost do their thing but hey some peaceful students Protest sounds good for some crazy force
![gif](giphy|gCi9p8l7UEInu)
Oh the irony: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61hlfR-mzgs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61hlfR-mzgs)
This one is disturbing...so america is officially dictatorship now?
We are occupied by Israel. Not sure if dictatorship is the right word, but the situation is not good. You can speak about literally anything else in this country except for israel. Israel protests gets state troopers lmao
only if you are as delusional as the protesters who are simping for the absolute evil of hamas. if the us was an actual dictatorship, like trump wants it to be, and these protesters are working to bring about, they would have simply all been shot.
This is really getting out of hand. We all know Abott is using these moments to win votes among his supporters. Sadly one America devours seeing the other America getting hurt. Just so sad :(
Como se dice ESCALATE?
Escalation!
Lots of bootlickers in this post. Prob the same type of people who think the police did their job in Uvalde.
This will totes win back the Suburban Mom vote- keep digging that hole GOP.
Deescalating the situation. Absolutely not looking for a confrontation with 19 year olds.
Not looking for confrontation while students die is kinda the TX cop way.
The cops are just waiting for a reason to shoot actual bullets at these children. And by reason, I mean NO reason. Jesus Christ on a bike, have mercy.
Why the fuck would you do that?
So wait, I was watching a documentary last night on the cold war (its on netflix, turning point, really great). Anyway, before the wall fell there were huge 70K+ demonstrations in Leipzig, and then in Berlin. The protestors focused on not being violent, and even chanting "no violence" to the Stasi (the East German secret police). So was there violence here that justified the stun grenades? Or are our cops worse than the fucking Stasi???? Because if its the latter, that is a giant leap down the hole of fascism.
Four dead in Ohio
It's really something, how courageous they are when they hear those words "nonviolent protestors". If only things worked the same way when someone said the words "school shooter".
I read this as donate not detonate and was very confused.
You get a stun grenade, you get a stun grenade, everybody gets a stun grenade!
The 54th anniversary of the Kent State Massacre is on May 4. I guess we know how Texas is planning to celebrate.
Kent State
Not yet, but lots of Republicans are hoping for it. Twist is that in Texas, the students might shoot back.
And let's not forget the reaction to the Kent State massacre. Many applauded the deaths of those "privileged elites" on campus.
Speaking of cops not doing their job, did they ever find whoever was drowning men in Lady Bird Lake?
If these were pro-Israel protestors, bet they wouldn't make the news. No one would be trying to remove them. Don't think anyone is pro-Hamas. Hamas and the Israel government are equally as bad.
Or nazis
Yep the issue is there is no good leaders over there just a bunch of powerful men willing to sacrifice civilians for their own power. Even Abbas in the West Bank is corrupt as hell and basically just lining his own pockets.
Land of the fwee.
Why are Texas cops always fucking disaster?
Zero credibility re the Texas police after Uvalde. Fool me once....
Vote
They’re awful ballsy when they believe they’re up against unarmed civilians.
Cowards that hid in the bushes in Uvalde. These are the same Assholes
Fuck the cops
Texas is a national embarrassment
Good to see our tax dollars protecting isreal home and abroad.
The world is watching
Remember: There was peace and music. ...But than the worthless thinblue lie policegang losers attacked.
Any injuries from this? I just realized that I don’t really know how stun grenades actually work. I’m guessing it’s a shock wave / noise maker without shrapnel.
Not that I can tell, no. Someone fell down just before this happened and there was a call for a medic, but I didn’t see what it was.
"Yup. What's the use of carryin' the damn things if I can't use'em?"
Arm yourself.
It lsure ooks like they are trying to push people into traffic. Cops are fucking disgusting.
Uvalde cops
Where was this kinda response on Jan 6th.
Banana Republic.
Dystopic to the extreme.
UT brass is doubling (tripling?) down in the stupidest way possible.
"Students" haha
lol sorry we don’t want this to devolve into what’s happening at Colombia university 😂
They’ll guard gun toting actual anti semitic neo Nazis and give them water but protest for peace and they can’t wait to f u up so Abbott can ride down his ramp to roll over u hate this state
That’s funny, that’s inciting a riot, when are the cops being arrested?
What was the point of that? Stun grenades are used to surprise and disorient suspects in an enclosed area. These people are not criminals, know the police are there, and are outside. Stupid.
Hell yeah. MURICA never disappoints.
Since when are peaceful protest illegal in America? I thought that was our whole thing
Crazy how far the elites go to protect Israel...
Attacking peaceful college protesters is never the right thing to do. Fuck these dickhead cops.
Ok, intimidating a crowd and wanting to use force is not the answer.
Depends on context. There are absolutely times where intimidating and using force against a crowd is definitely the answer.
There's totally a double standard, compare this to what happened on Jan 6th. One group literally broke into our Capitol, while in session, trying to take leaders hostage and hardly any change in police presence. This group protest, and there's practically an army ready to stop them from the get go.
Nobody looks stunned…
I'm pretty pro Israel although they've definitely over reached their hand significantly in this war. However these protesters absolutely have the right to protest peacefully, and the militant police response against the constitutional right to protest is absolutely pushing me to side more with the protesters, whereas before I was relatively indifferent.
Seems like the Zionists have quite a reach with law enforcement.
They're trying to shut up people who are talking about a Genocide that's taking place in our lifetime.
Americans protesting about how their college buys things from a company that supports the Israeli people....
Honestly, thank God these kids are doing this. There's no doubt that countless Palestinian lives will be saved and improved by this.
