that’s a long-ish story. became obsessed with it in 7/8th grade, but was unable to play because i had no computer of my own. loved the characters and the lore. fell out of love with it at the beginning of freshman year in highschool, but got back into it by late sophomore year. my friend rigged it for me to play on nvidia. been a nonstop train ever since. now a junior in highschool
Kickass. Its a shame new players will never get to experience when valve treated this game well. The love and war update was a time to be alive playing tf2.
~~i really don't understand why people think TF2 should be dead just because it came out in 2007. counter strike came out in fucking 1999 and it's st~~
oh wow, 1.6 used to be in the top 10 i think. yeah i see what you mean now. there aren't any games in the top 10 that are older than like 10 years. still though, 5 more years isn't that far off
Probably two fort. Or granary. Or well. One of the originals in the beta. When there was still friendly fire damage (I was in favor of friendly fire damage because of soy).
There was one that started with td that was not good. Lol

Same. Except it wasn't an online match, I just loaded it alone and walked around for a while. I was very young at the time. I explored Well in a similar fashion.
For me, I'm pretty sure it was cp_orange_x3 or whatever it was called... Or maybe that mario kart styled map, I feel bad for forgetting it's name. I first played the game in 2012 without having any clue what is this game so I have joined a random server and it turned out it was hosting a custom map.
I'm pretty sure it was that one 4 season minecraft trade map, ironically the server was all actually playing the game.
It was an odd experience to say the least. My first casual map was KOTH Harvest.
The very first one I ever played doesn’t exist anymore. I think it was called Clockwork? Clocktower? I don’t know, since I was like ten at the time and I don’t think the scout update had even come out. My dad (Mint Condition, which is a name some of y’all may recognize) let me play a little bit and I’ve been hooked ever since.
In offline practice mode, I picked Gorge, because it looked the prettiest out of the maps I'd scrolled through and I figured any map would be as good as any other. I picked Demoman (my line of reasoning being "My aim is going to suck, but grenades and bombs are about the furthest thing from precision weapons, so hopefully I'll be able to do SOMETHING") and wound up playing with the training bots for about four hours.
First 'real' multiplayer map? I don't remember.
If I'm not mistaken, it was Dustbowl. But over time I developed a taste for Hightower, and I stuck to it and 2fort as personal favourites to this day (with the ocassional Harvest when I feel extra tryhard-y).
Pl_GoldRush I bought the orange box for Portal and then fell into TF2 when they introduced payload map(s). I remember experiencing being on the wrong end of an Uber for the first time and thinking “that is so unfair to have that capability”
i remember badwater as my earliest, back when i thought the sapper was what made me go invisible and had no idea why the enemy knew where i was when i cloaked lmao
cp_well, i tried scout simply because he had a double jump and then didn’t play the game again for a good 6 years before picking it back up and playing regularly
I first played the game on 360 which only had the base version of the game. There's a good chance it was 2fort but part of me thinks it mighta been Granary or Hydro.
First was probably Dustbowl, but soon I found out about payload race. I remember having Hightower, Pipeline and Nightfall on rotation for hours! It was way before casual mode was added... It was prime time tf2.
I remember playing on suijin during the heavy bot times, and I had no idea why the heavies were all on the point shooting me. I even tried using inviswatch (it didn’t work), good times, man.
March 2015, gravel pit, point b, playing as heavy, standing on the ramp towards the left tunnel and getting my first kill. I will never forget that moment ^^
Dustbowl was incredibly trippy and difficult to navigate through as a new player and genuinely made me put down the game for a bit because of how disorienting it was
The very first thing I did when I got my hands on tf2 was to start a training game and play on dust bowl just so I could do the one thing I always wanted to do, a simple backstab. Poor medic didn’t stand a chance
Mine is actually an MvM match, because I queued for both, and the casual came up first but soon after they kicked me into boot camp so Bigrock was my first map
Mercenary Park. I instantly picked Spy but couldn’t figure out what the Cloak button was, so I just kept disguising and running directly at the enemy and dying.
mine was bread space lmao. that was an experience
As a new tf2 player yourself. What got you into the game so late?

tr_target then tr_dustbowl then idk, maybe harvest
Probably two fort. Or granary. Or well. One of the originals in the beta. When there was still friendly fire damage (I was in favor of friendly fire damage because of spy). There was one that started with td that was not good. Lol
Dustbowl
dustbowl was my fav map in TFC and my first played map in tf2. i think i played 3 days dustbowl straight as soldior when i started tf2
I like that map the most for some reason
i still love dustbowl as well after nearly 15 years lmao
The first map I ever played on was the one with the voice line “WE ARE IN THE BEAM” back when invasion first dropped
Watergate is an alright map, I like it, but matches last a long damn time
Turbine
Same. Still holds a special place in my heart despite it being a *ahem* less than stellar map.
viaduct
Here’s a weird one: Cactus Canyon
Same bro.
2 fort
Harvest
In a bot game it was CP_Gorge In a real game it was PL_Upward
2fort
I think it was tc_hydro
Same. Except it wasn't an online match, I just loaded it alone and walked around for a while. I was very young at the time. I explored Well in a similar fashion.
Did the same tbh
cp\_orange\_x5
What an experience that must have been.
My first Casual is Thunder mountain
Sawmill, still my favourite map
cp_orange
Gorge
cp_orange
Upward
2fort
For me, I'm pretty sure it was cp_orange_x3 or whatever it was called... Or maybe that mario kart styled map, I feel bad for forgetting it's name. I first played the game in 2012 without having any clue what is this game so I have joined a random server and it turned out it was hosting a custom map.
Pretty sure mine was gorge? I know for sure that doublecross was second though.
2fort.
Landfall. Good memories of the turtle lifestyle
Same here. I remember playing scout and shooting people from far away thinking I was good for hitting people for 3 damage.
I'm pretty sure it was that one 4 season minecraft trade map, ironically the server was all actually playing the game. It was an odd experience to say the least. My first casual map was KOTH Harvest.
tr\_target. if that doesn't count then dustbowl.
Cp_dustbowl
cp_steel
Hightower
Not counting tutorial maps, Upward, as BLU soldier
Mine is lakeside as heavy with the huolong heater, around 2013 my cousin let me play against bots in his account. I remeber my second map was nucleus
I played koth_lakeside first as far as I remember
Hydro on xbox 360
Badlands
Koth_nucleus with bots
Either dustobowl or gorge because I would play training mode at first
Probably an achievement map. I had a very shitty PC as a kid and those and trade servers were the only maps I could play on with decent fps.
2_fort, and of the 11 or so years I've been playing at least 90% of it has been on 2_fort. My favorite map, the best map.
I think turbine
Mountain lab
Achievement Engineer
Uhh i don't fucking know???
tr\_target The first map we all played was probably that one.
It was Dustbowl.
cp_badlands
Pier.
Dustbowl, orange box made me love all the OG maps
Brazil
Tutorial map
Tutorial
im pretty sure mine was viaduct
The very first one I ever played doesn’t exist anymore. I think it was called Clockwork? Clocktower? I don’t know, since I was like ten at the time and I don’t think the scout update had even come out. My dad (Mint Condition, which is a name some of y’all may recognize) let me play a little bit and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Can't remember, been playing since 2017.
Badwater Basin
I think standin or 2fort
turbine
That orange map with the tower in the middle (forgot name)
cp_orange
Sawmill For Practicing And Viaduct for an actual game.
If I'm not mistaken, it was Dustbowl. But over time I developed a taste for Hightower, and I stuck to it and 2fort as personal favourites to this day (with the ocassional Harvest when I feel extra tryhard-y).
my first map was cp_amaranth in tf2c
Turbine
either tc_hydro or cp_badlands, can't remember which one exactly.
It was either Alpine or Badwater i think. Alpine was the first time I played medic so i know that.
Dustbowl, BLU heavy. For the next half a year I only played on PLR maps, Junction and Egypt.
Dustbowl
harvest!
Upward
My first map was well. All the way back in ol’ 2013.
Idk it was either 2Fort or Dustbowl
Dustbowl or 2fort on my ps3
TeuFort
Pl_GoldRush I bought the orange box for Portal and then fell into TF2 when they introduced payload map(s). I remember experiencing being on the wrong end of an Uber for the first time and thinking “that is so unfair to have that capability”
i remember badwater as my earliest, back when i thought the sapper was what made me go invisible and had no idea why the enemy knew where i was when i cloaked lmao
Dustbowl
cp_well, i tried scout simply because he had a double jump and then didn’t play the game again for a good 6 years before picking it back up and playing regularly
I think it was community server can’t remember what map it was
Gold rush, dustbowl
Double cross
Dustbowl, then 2fort, then VSH sky-high resort.
First time ever was on Dust Bowl and I kept getting lost somehow
I first played the game on 360 which only had the base version of the game. There's a good chance it was 2fort but part of me thinks it mighta been Granary or Hydro.
2fort
Dustbowl
Double cross
I think if I remember correctly it was Precipice.
2fort, I then died to a spy and crashed immediately
Probably either Dustbowl or Goldrush. Started in ‘08, so I can’t be certain anymore.
First non bot game was also Egypt but with sniper spinbots instead
First was probably Dustbowl, but soon I found out about payload race. I remember having Hightower, Pipeline and Nightfall on rotation for hours! It was way before casual mode was added... It was prime time tf2.
I think mine was Upward outside of the training maps.
I remember playing on suijin during the heavy bot times, and I had no idea why the heavies were all on the point shooting me. I even tried using inviswatch (it didn’t work), good times, man.
Cp_dustbowl but my internet sucked so I played only with bots for a while till i got Starlink.
cp_steel still my fav map
2fart
Suijin when it first came out.
2_fort
dustboul
March 2015, gravel pit, point b, playing as heavy, standing on the ramp towards the left tunnel and getting my first kill. I will never forget that moment ^^
I am like 95% sure it was swiftwater
Bad water
suijin
Hydro
Damn same
I'm 90% sure it was Turbine.
2fort
thunder Mountain
Dustbowl was incredibly trippy and difficult to navigate through as a new player and genuinely made me put down the game for a bit because of how disorienting it was
Dustbowl I guess
upward as a super laggy spy 5 years ago, somehow hit backstabs from a mile away and the lag wouldnt let me get hit. good times
koth_nucleus was so confusing lol
landfall, i first played when the tough break update released
i cant remember exactly but I’m pretty sure it was landfall
Dustbowl on my Xbox 360, played demo on defense, most fun I’ve had in a long time lol
I think most of the people started with cp_dustbowl or achievement_idle
Definitely upward
Badlands, back in 2009. When my old Dell could only manage about a shaky 30fps at best on a full server.
Gorge
I played TF2 for the first time at a friend's house. The map was Borneo and I played as Engineer so that my bad aim wouldn't impede me.
2Fort back on the 360. Then 2Fort again after getting it on PC.
2fort
Freight, it made me fall in love with the game
The very first thing I did when I got my hands on tf2 was to start a training game and play on dust bowl just so I could do the one thing I always wanted to do, a simple backstab. Poor medic didn’t stand a chance
Dustbowl
70% it was dustbowl
2Fort. Christmas Day, 2012, on the PS3, with my brand new copy of The Orange Box that I mostly wanted for Portal...
Foundry, I'm pretty sure. Joined right before Blue Moon dropped.
The one with the train right next to the final red capture
Mine is actually an MvM match, because I queued for both, and the casual came up first but soon after they kicked me into boot camp so Bigrock was my first map
Doomsday
Gorge, I remember being so lost looking for where everyone was lol.
Does anyone remember the 4 x 4 mode? From TFC
Mercenary Park. I instantly picked Spy but couldn’t figure out what the Cloak button was, so I just kept disguising and running directly at the enemy and dying.
Either Egypt or 2Fort, but it was so long ago (2009) that I can't remember and there are no records of my map history
Mine was Gorge, odd but it was a good intro
The training room for the training matches
2fort un-ironically
It might’ve been Upward, but I don’t really remember
mine was upward I think, i remember trying to do the rollout as soldier and falling off the cliff
ctf_turbine and koth_harvest
Suijin. I reckon I got lucky
Upward but then I got votekicked the second I joined in for no actual reason
Mine was 2fort
2fort on the orange box for the 360
Snowycoast, but like right after it came out
Upward, my beloved
How do you guys remember 15 minutes of gameplay 14 years ago?
2Fort. I like CTF and it was the only CTF map at the time.
BAD WATER
Gorge here the best map in TF2
upward
Harvest it's was really funny because everyone went friendly
