I've used herd management only for GO species and after I find the GO, I don't have energy to find anything more XD I have 6 GO's which have all broken me mentally.
Counterpoint: Gold rares are amazing. It could have spawned as a dinky little Silver that everyone can look at and see is unimpressive. Instead you got a high scoring Gold. You will never hear one syllable of complaint out of me about a Gold scoring rare, whether it was max level or not.
After initial shock, yes that is pretty amazing and probably will be put on good place on my lodge. It is just the first thought that maybe finally I get a second super rare XD

They're pretty common for most species, and I think of the species who don't go Gold often (Roosevelt Elk) as stingy with them rather than considering other species as generous. I do consider trolls interesting and tax them, but they don't go in the main lodge.
Still a great trophy. My melanistic gold moose is still my favorite trophy so far, even though I got it ages ago and have mounted many more animals after it.
I'd still taxidermy that. I feel you're pain, but I don't hesitate to have gold mounted.

OOF, I feel that pain, I've had an albino level 9 alligator troll, it sucks BAD 😠that's still an incredible trophy though!!!!

Shot an albino then about 30 minutes later a gold. About lost it.
I got a level 5 albino plains bison a year or two ago it also trolled me by like .2
