reminds me of one of my dog when he first stepped on concrete. he only knew grass and dirt so concrete was so strange to him he just froze and was afraid to move.
i wish i never knew concrete either
She mentioned licking his paws being a problem. In many places with cold weather they put down road salt and/or ice melter on sidewalks, roads and driveways. It can burn the dog's feet which in itself can be reason for the booties but also many dogs try to lick off the road salt which is very much not good for them.
Could literally just be a problem licking too. I fostered a bull terrier and she would lick her paws nonstop to the point of hair loss. We tried antihistamines and creams from the vet and it didn't help. The vet thought it was some psychological issue since there didn't seem to be an external cause.
Where in the world right now would a domesticated dog breed be more safe and happy than in a good home? It's sad the world is so dangerous for animals but this stance is just so brainlessly contrarian.
Hug that baby 😭
My Dobermans did the same thing when we got them heat protection gloves. It was ridiculous lol.
I wonder what instinct is triggered that makes them freeze when their paws are coated 🤔
I sincerely suggest Googling “best way to get your dog accustomed” (or “used to”) booties. Maybe just one bootie for now, once he/she is used to it, add another?
Dogs have senses in their paws that they use constantly. Putting the things on their paws probably throws them off completely. Thats why i dont like them, but i get they are useful so 🤷🏾♂️.
It will take time for dogs to adjust but they do.
Use treat training as distractors from the booties.
Have him do tricks - sit, paw, lay down, etc and give him a treat for doing the tricks.
Ignore the attention they give TO the booties being on their feet.
If YOU make a big deal over it... they... will make a big deal over it.
Good luck and good for you for going the extra for protecting your dogs feet.

I’d assume these were bought to protect her feet on walks from very high or very low temperatures or from broken glass or other sharp things. But she doesn’t seem comfortable or used to them yet so probably they haven’t actually been worn outside yet?
Im talking about what the owner actually says at :33 seconds "if you didn't lick your paws you wouldn't have to wear these"
But I like your "opinion" about it better. /s.
Why would you downvote and even reply to me without addressing what the OWNER ACTUALLY SAYS?
The dog might be obsessively licking their paws, wearing away the fur, causing sores, and so on. My parents fostered a dog with a licking problem and it was a constant battle to keep her occupied with other activities, otherwise she'd lay on the floor for hours and just lick the same area.
That makes sense....I've never owned an OCD dog...but I can see that happening. How, do you fix that? Is there medication for the dog because I'd think wearing these all the time would go against the ecology of the dog's paw.
I really don't know. I know there are medications that can help with anxiety, but I think with their foster dog they just distracted her if it went on more than a couple of minutes. I don't know the situation of the dog in the video and if there are special circumstances.
It's almost always a symptom of a deeper problem, anxiety, fear, trauma or something along those lines. Generally you fix the root problem and hope the licking stops as a result. Sometimes it can be very easy, other times the root cause is complex and difficult to fix.
I have a dog that's allergic to a lot of outdoor allergies(life is cruel ya know?) and he licks his paws a ton, and he's on a bunch of allergy meds to keep him from licking his paws as much. He also tries to lick his ass too much and can go raw if unchecked.
Just because a wild animal doesn't use an item doesn't mean it's stupid to use that item for the domestic version of that animal. I'm sure wol**ves** and coyotes would benefit from having foot protection sometimes, it's just not possible to actually put them all in booties. ~~(Although it would make for hilarious viewing.)~~ But you CAN put booties on a pet dog, because you can prevent pain or injury that way and you love your pet.
Coyotes and wolves don't spend their time walking on blacktop mid day, or long periods through roadsalt in the winter. Towns/cities are not friendly to bare feet/paws.
"For example, on a 85°F day, the asphalt temperature can reach 110°F, and on a day with an air temperature over 100°F, the asphalt can reach 160°F. On a 120°F day, the road temperature could rise between 140–150°F, which can cause severe burns within a minute or two."
kind of abuse.. their paws are sensitive to certain types of friction, my dogs hate if i rub any kind of material on them or even my finger. also 'if you didnt lick your paws you wouldnt have to wear them' wtf? like what kind of dog is not expected to lick their paws? this is animal instinct 101..
I think your dog blue-screened.

As my dad always says, shame concrete doesn’t burn.
shame indeed
My dog has the same reaction. Just full body frozen. Like can't move the limbs at all
Is not that bad? Then you wear them! -dog probably
Well, *you* may think so but I'm guessing that a very important someone doesn't quite agree :(
Oh no not the sockies of shame! Poor baby!
there seems to be a pointer mixed in your dog
Is this a C joke?
Put socks on dog SEGMENTATION FAULT (CORE DUMPED)
lmao
I thought they are talking about pointer dogs. The ones that spot a small animal and just point and lock up entirely.
Oh maybe? Probably more likely.
WRONG POINTEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeer... Why do we even HAVE that pointer?

Do they help with heat from the concrete on walks?

Living in captivity. And then this. Poor dog.
That's not a wolf or coyote there chief.

Tell him all the cool dogs wear them.
Why have you forsaken me? 😞
They are just the most adorable balls, of energy. Too cute. Thank, you for posting this-cutest thing I have, seen in, a while.
I almost threw my phone reading your comment with all those unnecessary commas…and then I saw your username. I’m now your biggest fan.
Now read it like Christopher walken
I put boots on my poodles once. It looked something like you'd expect putting shoes on a Caterpillar would look like.
Hahaha
My dog was the same, the look of betrayal still plagues me,
That bed is definitely being shit on later.

Think your dog has a different opinion to you..
victim blaming, he doesn’t want to lick his paws
Drax....
That statue is so lifelike.
Hug that baby 😭 My Dobermans did the same thing when we got them heat protection gloves. It was ridiculous lol. I wonder what instinct is triggered that makes them freeze when their paws are coated 🤔
Why isn't the dog moving?
You now have the cutest statue!
“This fuckin sucks”

Maybe dogs…. were the real government drones…. all along 🤔
My Staffordshires are Drama queens too. And stubborn. Tell me, does she move yet😂

What happened to that dog's tail?
It's down. Watch again. Regular tail going on.
She finally caught it
Fuck, that TikTok outro sound was loud. Gave me a bit of a jump scare.
Any reason to get these for your pup? They're adorable and I want some for my booper boy just curious what their purpose is
youre an asshole
So why can't he lick his paws? Seems standard animal behavior...so I'm s bit confused

Hey man, Idk why you’re being downvoted, I didn’t. I didnt listen to the audio and that’s my bad. I tried to help and missed a thing, sorry.
It's cool....you know how reddit can get sometimes. my bad as well.
Cheers

Some dogs can get super obsessive over it. And if you go out in the cold, dogs will try to lick road salt off their paws, which isn't good for them.
Here's my question, who's putting all the boots on coyote & wolfs?
Whos putting the pants on monkeys?

Explain how to protect their feet from hot asphalt then go ahead I’ll wait. This is not abuse yall call everything abuse
she said it was bc he 'licks them'. not to protect his feet from asphalt.
Either way it can be used for hot or cold asphalt as well as overly licked paws so no not abuse if used for the dogs benefit
