I don't agree. I read them after though for a variety of reasons and generally they tend towards correct assessment. With that in mind, I still don't read them beforehand. However, for people that are time/money conscious, reading critics they know and trust is not a bad idea. I have mild to intense disagreement with some of Roger Ebert's critiques but on the whole there's a lot of agreement but not necessarily on the same points.
eta: or rather did as he's dead.
[Den of Thieves?](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1259528/) Pretty popular on Reddit and Twitter but underrated in general, and gets compared pretty favorably to HEAT
This a whole Genre.
For Ocean's 11 there's an underrated Italian Job (remake of the original with Wahlberg, Norton, and a half dozen well knowns).
Michael Mann's Thief (1981, with James Caan, James Belushi, Willie Nelson).
2001 it was Heist (Gene Hackman, DeVito, Delroy Lindo, Sam Rockwell) and The Score (DeNiro, Brando in his last role, Bassett, Norton), both underrated for not having slick action or style (Ocean's 11 changed this a few years later).
There's two different Thomas Crown Affairs that could apply.
Anything else to go off of? What they stole? They descend by rope? Vehicles involved? Chase scenes?
Hard to say, OP says underrated but high RT score..
It’s got a great cast and amazing reviews but I’ve never seen heat on tv, or hear anyone talk about it, other then the mate that told me about it 20 years ago…
Righty so but I don’t think I’ve ever heard it referenced in pop culture, whereas I’m pretty sure Ive heard references to those films in various other media
It's not this one, but I still recommend this underrated movie from Argentina, if you wanna see a good Heist movie:
The Heist of the Century (2020)
great funny heist movie based on real events.
Long shot, I might be way off. It may have been
“Clue” 1985? Clue in my opinion is really underrated. It was a great film!
“Murder on the Orient Express”2017?

Baby Driver?
Definitely not
"Sneakers" (1992)?
maybe you read this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/16h7tb4/what_are_some_of_the_better_lesser_known/
think it was more modern than this. maybe wasn't heist - crime generally?
Just here to express my love for Sneakers ☺️
Seven Psychopaths?
might be this! 70%
I mean, even if it isn't, Seven Psychopaths is fucking phenomenal and is criminally underrated.
Logan Lucky?
This is my guess
That's why you shouldn't read reviews
No, you should. If a critic says something is great, then usually it's terrible and vice versa.
Because people are different and like different things.

Welcome to Collinwood
This movie is so good.
Ronin gets talked about a lot here

Heat ?
Is Heat underrated??!

Well between me and my buds it is a legendary movie, we hold it up there with Saving Private Ryan, Resovoir Dogs, and Full Metal Jacket
Righty so but I don’t think I’ve ever heard it referenced in pop culture, whereas I’m pretty sure Ive heard references to those films in various other media
Heat got nominated for zero Oscars. None. In any category. That still blows my mind to this day.
tower heist
Came here to say this. Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, Michael Peña Pretty decent cast
Alan Alda as a villain
Free Fire (2017)?
Layer cake
Killing them softly
It's not this one, but I still recommend this underrated movie from Argentina, if you wanna see a good Heist movie: The Heist of the Century (2020) great funny heist movie based on real events.
The Widows remake? Feel like it received a mixed reaction from audiences though
Inside Man? Denzel, Jodie Foster, Clive Owen, etc…
great movie
Hell Or High Water? Not much of an ensemble cast, admittedly.
Oceans film?
Gangster No.1 with Paul Bettany?
Bullet Train?
The Italian Job remake?
Yessssss
Snatch
The Usual Suspects?
No Sudden Move?
The Town? 2010, Affleck, Lively, Hamm, Renner. 92% on rotten tomatoes.
That would have been my guess
Bandits? Billy Bob, Bruce Willis, that red headed chick….great underrated movie!
The Usual Suspects?
Crackers?
100% Italian Job (2003) with marky mark wahlberg
American Animals (2018)?
The Gentlemen?
Heist? Dave Bautista, and negan from the walking dead. (Forgot his name)
Uncut Gems? I kept seeing it being called "underrated".
Glass Onion? Sequel to Knives Out?
Sound like Smokin' Aces to me. Released in 2006 to terrible reviews and criticism, but has since developed quite a cult following.
Lucky Number Slevin?
Didn’t see anyone say The Departed
Bad Times at The El Royale?
The bank job with Jason statham
Sexy Beast? https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sexy_beast
Long shot, I might be way off. It may have been “Clue” 1985? Clue in my opinion is really underrated. It was a great film! “Murder on the Orient Express”2017?
Ronin gets mentioned in those threads alot
6 Underground?
The Sting (1973)
Reservoir dogs
The Losers
Smokin' Aces?
The town
2010 - The Expendables?
I’m saving this post just for a list of great heist films.
Our Of Sight?
Red (2010) - Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_(2010_film)
Army of Thieves
Blue Iguana? with Sam Rockwell
The Italian Job?
The Hatton Garden Job?
The usual suspects?
