Plotwise this sound kind of like a movie based on the novel "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Brontë (1847); the "widower" who holds his wife captive (because she is what was called "violently insane") is the romantic interest of the female main character, a governess he employes to take care of and enducate his daughter.
[Here is a Wikipedia List of adaptations of Jane Eyre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adaptations_of_Jane_Eyre) - maybe yours was this one: [Jane Eyre miniseries (2006)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Eyre_(2006_TV_series)) ?
[The 2011 version](https://youtu.be/8IFsdfk3mlk?si=vtqNT6jEusGtvd-U) is quite suspenseful, and has a couple straight up shocking/scary moments.
ETA: I fixed the link, TIL if you copy a link to a youtube video while an ad is still playing it is possible to link directly to the ad 🥲
I swear I remember seeing these commercials and wanting to watch it and never did… darn I’m sorry I don’t remember the title! If you liked it though, you may like the book verity too!
Hey did you find out what it was?
Because I came here for my own (tip of the tongue issue) & saw your post on the main page & the movie you are talking about sounds interesting as hell...& now I want to know what it is too? lol : P
There’s something similar in Insidious: The Last Key. It’s 2018 tho and not a sitter. Elise is reflecting on her awful childhood where she saw a ghost woman in the house and tried to tell her dad but he beat her like always because he doesn’t believe in ghosts. He’s a widow at this time. She looks back and realizes that woman was alive and a demon makes any man who lives in the house kidnap women and trap them in the basement

Reply here if you think you know a movie that fits the description
Are you looking for the Thriller movie "Emelie"?
No. That's not the one. The movie I am looking for has only one kid.
Is it Safe Haven? Based in the book by Nicholas Sparks.
Nope
This is nothing like what the OP described, lol.
It’s almost the opposite.
In what world?
Jane Eyre?
lol came here to suggest the same
My first though too
Same.
Lol thought of the same one!
Nope

Wtf did you link?
Hi, I don't mind signing the petition, but where is the 2011 version?
Parts of the 2006 version as well.
The mother isn’t alive in this one, but sounds somewhat similar to Voice from the Stone?
Sounds similar to I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in The House, though that was an adult caretaker rather than a babysitter.
Nope not this one
Do you remember the age group of the child or like how often the wife ghost was seen before the truth comes out?
The truth comes out in the end. The husband somehow catches her again but I dont remember what he does with her then
This sounds so familiar but when I try to remember what it is I just keep thinking about Bly Manor or picturing the ghost maid from AHS murder house
The House on Pine Street?
Nope
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë?
Nope
The Others with Nicole Kidman?
Not even close, plot wise.
Nope
The sitter?
Nope
A simple favor?
Nope
Secrets in the walls? It’s a lifetime movie
Nooe not this one
I swear I remember seeing these commercials and wanting to watch it and never did… darn I’m sorry I don’t remember the title! If you liked it though, you may like the book verity too!
This isn’t a movie but I read a book called Verity by Colleen Hoover that was basically the same premise, weird.
Not even close to Verity
Hey did you find out what it was? Because I came here for my own (tip of the tongue issue) & saw your post on the main page & the movie you are talking about sounds interesting as hell...& now I want to know what it is too? lol : P
Dude it was interesting as hell. We are going on a trip and planning to watch it when we are there. Looking very hard for it
The Uninvited?
Nope

Nope not this one
The intruders (2015)?
Nooe
Do you remember any more scenes from the movie? Any places in the movie that stick out?
Jane Eyre?
Nope
is it a contemporary movie or historical?
It was somewhere from late 90's to early 2000's judging from the camera print
Sounds soo much like Jane eyre
Nope
Crimson Peak?
That’s what I thought of too
I actually only seen the trailer
No its not that
The House Sitter (2015)

It might be “The Intruders” featuring Miranda Cosgrove.

Nope
There was an episode of beyond belief about this, but I can't find it. Could this be what you are looking for?
No this was a movie
Damn, was sur this could be it. Heres the episode anyway: https://beyondbelief.fandom.com/wiki/House_of_Shadows
I have been trying to find this movie for almost 10 years now 😂. Me and my Aunt watched it at the same time, forgot the name 😂😂😂
One more guess: The perfect Nanny? [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228711/?ref\_=tt\_urv](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228711/?ref_=tt_urv)
Could it be The Babysitters Seduction with Keri Russel?
Nope
Was it a period piece or set in the year it was made? There is a masterpiece theater/mystery made for tv movie that has this plot, set in the 1800s.
In the year it was made
The Tomb of Ligeia?
Nope
What Lies Beneath?
Nope
The Hidden Face?
Does it have any supernatural elements?
Not that i remember
Maybe it's The Captive Nanny but it was released in 2020 https://m.imdb.com/title/tt12316704/
Nope
Also look into: The Disappointments Room" (2016). Or Within (2016) as they look similar from the synopsis I read on imdb
Its neither
The Night House?
Nope
Do you know what country the film was from?
