Email sent, thanks for posting this. It's the only reason I've yet to switch over to the new app (at least until we don't have the option of the old app)
I have definitely noticed the double entry thing.
I asked them if they plan to deprecate the number pads and their response was:
> There presently is no plan to replace the stations or docks, so the keypad to unlock bikes remains available. It is the only way for users who buy a pass via the station kiosk to unlock a bike anyway.
The wording there is very careful LOL. Sounds like they are planning on deprecating the keypad when they do purchase new docks, but there are no immediate plans.
I had this problem too fyi with an android phone. The solution was holding the camera extremely far away. Like above my head. Then it grabs the barcode somehow. No idea why it’s like that.
I am not a fan of the new app. As someone who never had issues with PBSC, and actually liked it. The fact the new app doesn't show where ebikes are as clearly, really annoys me

Old app is gonna stop working on July 1 :(
Yeah, that's pretty annoying if they don't sort it out by then.
Another option is to use the Bike Share website. It will provide you a code to unlock the bike if the QR code option doesn’t work.
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind if they force an upgrade

It does however let you put in the bike serial number into the app to unlock it, which I don’t think was in the old one
It was, there's a button when you scan the QR code to enter it manually
The physical card should help in all those situations if the codes don’t come back to the app
Agreed, and thanks for posting this! I have also emailed them regarding this.
What is the old app? I sometimes struggle using the mobile website since it doesn’t display properly and is kind of slow.
It's called PBSC, still available in the play store (not sure about app store}.
Good to know. I’ll avoid downloading it till it’s needed.

There’s a bike id# on the rear hub - you can enter that. It’s annoying though because you have to twist around to see it.
You can enter the QR code serial of the bike though.
Many of them have their QR’s scratched out, and other just prefer to be able to put their phone away before approaching the rack to unlock.
