These birds are wonderful! Great vid!
Their stomach acid is so strong it acts as a viral, bacterial and parasitic dead end - making them a very important part of controlling the spread of diseases.
They also put away meat at an insane speed, reducing the contact time between different species that feed on carrion, reducing chances of disease being transferred also. These birds are great contributors in their eco systems. I honestly didn’t know we had them in Ontario never mind in the city
When I was younger I only ever saw them on roadtrips with my parents riding the thermals above highways in Northern Ontario. I moved to Toronto in 2009 and didn't see a city vulture until 2013ish above the dvp. In the past few years I've been seeing them more & more.
Something must be moving them into the city more - food sources? Larger population? I dunno. I just love them.
They can sometimes get confused by the smell of natural gas and think there is a dead body in the area. The mercaptin they add to natural gas ( to give it that smell) is a chemical also released by dead bodies . If you see vultures in an unusual area , there’s a chance of a gas leak ( or a dead body).
I had one start beating on my office window when Telus was out near the Pickering Go station. You don't realize how damn big they are until they're right in your face waving their wings around.
IIRC their heads are featherless because they burrow and kind of hollow out body cavities.
I used to think they were gross until the fam visited a raptor park near TO. They are mind blowing.
Fabulous footage.
They're both hideous & beautiful at the same time. Much like the Kramer. He sickens me. Yet I can't look away.
*Clicks beak and flies into window*
I can't stop staring at the nose hole.
If everything you ate was rotting, you'd want a big nose hole, too. They stick their heads into innards, remember!
I’ve seen them feeding, it gets quite messy
Oh yeah, I believe the dinosaur/bird connection now lol. That thing is hunting😳
Right? Baby needs some castor oil on its face
I think those ugly faces have something to do with eating dead diseased things all the time, and evolving a natural resistance to those diseases.
Yes - fewer hair follicles etc to get infected!
Oh so it's not its lack of beauty regiment? Ok noted.
That or it's already used too much lol.
Have you never seen the Shoebill Stork?
I was in Ethiopia and saw them in person and I was flabbergasted. I didn’t think it was real at first
Welcome to the team! 👋
You didn’t till now?

So turkey vulture poop would theoretically be safe to consume?
Only one way to find out
Anything is edible if you're brave enough!
WOW!!!
Looks like a little raptor. What did you shoot this with this is awesome.
Just my phone pressed up against the window. I was surprised by the quality of the footage!

Damn, that shot when it turns its beak at you... 👏
Wow amazing video! Thanks for sharing!
Maybe you were looking kind of ill today.
You are so lucky! Great video.
What a beauty!
I love turkey vultures so much.

I was lucky enough to be a few feet under one that was hovering, once. They are *enormous*.
Why does it look pre-cooked?

You should crosspost this to r/birding
Thanks for that. Made a full day/evening a bit interesting.
What an amazing bird, very lethal looking beak!
They aren't predators! They only eat already-dead stuff.
Whoa, amazing video!!!
Did they make their own appointment?
Fun facts: They pee on their legs to stay cool in the heat and projectile vomit when threatened.
Loool! With their intense pathogen-killing stomach acid that scene must look like a clip from Alien.
Yep great barfers. Handy protection when you're eating dead stuff..
> and projectile vomit when threatened Same, bird. Same.
the beak kind of looks like 2 piece of garlic .. mmmmmm garlic
Amazing footage. That was really neat to watch.
So like... I expected to just be like "ew" but literally all that popped out of my mouth was "Awww!" Nature is incredible!
Which phone did you use?
Samsung S22
What an amazing video. so clear. Such detail! My god, it's beak is gnarly.
Nature's most beautiful creation
Es un caroñero.
G’damn amazing capture
What a treat! Thanks for sharing.
I love birds...but that is a face only a mother could love.
Why is it cute tho
Amazing! Your camera is incredible 😍
Too early - usually you see these beauties in September- maybe they know something 😄
They migrate north during the spring and back south in the fall, overwintering in Central & South America
I've been seeing them all over the place the last month or so
Nah, they're always around once it's spring. I've seen them by the zoos landfill very often
Hate those things after having smashed into one on my motorcycle.
Was there blood?
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing.
Is it that hot out holy fuck? Last time I saw a Vulture was in Africa
We host vultures all summer - two species, as it happens. They're native migratory birds.
