When council is approving cycling projects 21-0, I think we're past the point of having to do months of consultation of every little addition and can just approve in bulk and think bigger. We have to move beyond the current system of approval.

CrowdScene

Councilors are still using public consultations to kill projects so that they don't have to vote against them. After council approves a cycling network plan city staff do the work of actually designing the infrastructure, but before that design is presented to IEC the councilor needs to hold a public consultation. If the councilor doesn't schedule a consultation then the project never gets presented to IEC and its implementation is never voted on by council, so the project just withers on the vine without ever officially being canceled. The project that's being silently killed that bothers me the most is the Danforth-Kingston expansion. Cycling east of Victoria Park, especially to Warden, is where I've had my most... [interesting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh9j1slA7R4)... cycling experiences, and I've never set wheels on Kingston except to walk my bike across a crosswalk.

💯

This sounds great on paper, but walk into the community after bike lanes get installed and all you hear is "why didn't anyone consult on this??". There's an overall expectation in the city that residents will get to opine on everything that happens in their neighborhood. It's a really hard thing to overcome, and sometimes consulting can be good to try and get buy in on projects

reference here is that he voted to approve Q2 2024 cycling infrastructure projects, when as we know he always votes against. https://twitter.com/GraphicMatt/status/1781033212782805064

Omg, I couldn't figure out why he raised a point of personal privilege, that was hilarious... 😂

Tosbor20

beef-supreme

https://www.cycleto.ca/2024_second_quarter has the info for this batch of projects now moving forward

insane that this man with his views, in the 21st century, still holds public office. a true obstacle to progress in this city when it comes to cycling infrastructure.

Fishfleshfowl

i keep saying it, but it's worth repeating it, but this man has minimal public support. he became a councillor off his daddy's name and his family's money. in the last race, donations from Stephen and his family made up 83% of the donations to his campaign.

lingueenee

No mistake, he's a relic and you can go far on name recognition. His presiding over the debacle of February's "consultation" where grandstanders threatened violence against cyclists to his tacit approval or indifference, where he smirked and eye rolled through city staff's presentation, clearly demonstrated he has the leadership and principles of a vacuum. And yet he's served in council since 2014. So there's also no disputing his agenda has enough traction to keep him in office. For now.

No lane removals: holyday supports

properproperp

This looks straight out of Parks and Rec lmfao

finemustard

If you ever work for a municipal government, you'll realise that Parks and Rec was a documentary.

rootbrian_

Honestly shocked. Lol

PenthesileaIceQueen

The more the better!

Repulsive-Dot7660

Still nothing on the warden hydro corridor in scarborough to connect to the meadow way... such a huge gap.

rootbrian_

In fact, *every single hydro corridor* should be turned into a multi-use trailway. IF the city had a will. That and propery owners using it for parking (if it sits unused most of the time), could easily think about that and let it get done.

TorontoBoris

Is someone in council wearing a Holyday mask?
