While downloading movies, ALWAYS avoid .exe files or any other executables or regedit files or ANY other file for that matter unless it is:
- .mp4/.mkv (actual movie file),
- .jpeg/.png/.jpg (usually for cover art),
- .nfo (metadata for the movie),
- .srt (subtitle files).
Qbittorrent usually lets you pick and choose which files you want to download from the torrent.
I'd suggest using a proper free antivirus like Kaspersky, Malware Bytes (some others can be found in antivirus subreddits) (McAffee doesn't count, it's become bloatware at this point and always tends to slow down devices from my experience) and scanning ur system to make sure there aren't any issues.
Lastly, there's a chance that the downloader ur using might be keeping those temp files (unlikely, but it's a possibility) and will only let you delete them once you've finished downloading and probably closed the downloader. So try to delete them the moment you're done downloading to avoid any risks, and again, run a scan using a good, free, antivirus.
That would require an exploit on the video player, it's possible but probably not worth the hassle of creating it when you can just name your upload "Dune.Part.2.H4CK3RZ-W4R3Z.avi.exe".

Look at your torrent client. Are these files shown as being part of any of the torrents you are downloading? If so chances are someone has tried to slip some malware into a torrent they created.
Other than they are exe files, I'm of the opinion that it can't be deleted until the torrent is stopped or removed.
I had issues deleting videos, possibly on an old tablet as I don't tend to nuke movies after watching unless on a portable device.
It denied me every time, found out because VLC was auto generating a play list, it went "you can't delete this, because I still need access."
Cleared play list or closed VLC and job done.
I tried running a scan on them but even mcaffe was not able to do that, it just said 0 files scanned you are virus free (thanks man). So i just convinced myself that it is not worth the trouble i stopped the downloads.
Thanks for taking the time to try and help tho, i appreciate it.
Bruh the free year isn't even worth it. Windows defender does a better job than McAfee at this point. If you need added checks, just do malwarebytes free scans.
I don’t know. I’ve never seen this.
I’d guess it’s something your client is doing, independent of this torrent. That doesn’t mean it’s legit.
I mean the way torrents work prevents this from happening, I would assume. I think it’s not related to this torrent. Maybe you clicked on one of the ad scams on the site.
Are you using qbittorrent? It has a setting that allows it to run a command when a torrent is added or completed. Hackers are using a poorly secured webui password to change these settings remotely and have your machine download other files at the end of a torrent.
I found this on my own system just today and cleaned it, worth checking to see if your torrent client has a similar setting
The setting they are abusing is under "Downloads" in a section called 'run External Program" - this is getting set to something that triggers the download of a payload.
The way they are getting to the settings is via the 'Web UI' section. If you don't use it make sure it is turned off, if you do use it make sure the username is changed from default and you have a tough password
Name the uploader and the site, might not be as trusty as you think.
1337x.to and the Star Wars movies from a reputable verified uploader.
> reputable verified uploader who?

Is it possible to have viruses in .mp4 or other formats files?
It's more difficult because a machine doesn't "execute" anything change anything based on instructions in a MP4 file . It just reads it.
That would require an exploit on the video player, it's possible but probably not worth the hassle of creating it when you can just name your upload "Dune.Part.2.H4CK3RZ-W4R3Z.avi.exe".
Yes, it's possible, especially in large files. But it's less common than the low hanging fruit .exe
You think qbitorent would keep such temporary files outside the subfolder into which I was downloading?
However, you do probably know this. Never open "movies/series" that are .exe files. That seemed a little weird if they were in that folder.
I'd just reformat everything and look for the movies somewhere else. You really should name the site this happened on.
Yep I did that, I formatted the disk and deleted everything.

No they weren’t in the download list.
I really think you should not only mentioned the website, show exactly what you decided to download
Sorry I thought that wasn’t allowed. You was using 1337x.to and downloading the Star Wars movies from a reputable uploader
Folder won't just be created out of thin air. Was the folder shown in the dialog in your client?
Looks like a temporary folder to me, is it finished downloading?

Hmm that's interesting as even i do use VLC to play video files on my computer and have kept it has default 🧐
Would just restarting the computer have allowed you to delete that file also?
Fully closing VLC was way quicker. And when I found out it was making a playlist, just clearing that was a few mouse clicks.

First mistake. Mcaffe.
i know, i got a year free with my laptop, decided to keep it...

Uninstall it. It's worthless.
Get rid of that shit mate. McAfee + asking about random EXEs, please do some research before you keep downloading shit.
Ishggidydiggity
Check it on VirusTotal in any case.
Get Malwarebytes

why is that?

Can you please tell me where the setting is

If your using Windows, get yourself a copy of "take ownership" search on Google for it, it's great for problems like this.
