I have a water turtle and when I let him roam, he’s attached. I can’t even run to the bathroom without then hearing him trying to knock down the door. I think it’s part emotional and part “this person gives me food.”
My tortoise doesn't yet but my turtle would follow me around constantly. I even let it go in the ponds near our house and she always came right back to me after her swim.
My sulcata will harass tf out of me until I feed him. He has recently gotten into the habit of ramming his shell into my door to *wake me up* to get him food.
If I do not feed him as soon as he starts this behavior he will. Not. Stop.
Tortoises are smarter than we give them credit. Dunno how deep it goes but they absolutely do recognize their humans that care for them and will go out of their way to seek that attention.
He's trying to tell you he wants food. My turtles follow me around all the time, heck they even climb on top of me if I sit on the ground.

What species
I have a yellow-bellied slider. My mom has a red-eared slider, and he does this as well, though to a lesser extent.
Oh ok
Thank you all! This is what we were hoping was the case, but hadn’t seen it from him before so was just being cautious :)

I'm imagining this and it put a smile on my face :) thank you :)
My Fredrick will follow me all round the house and demands his butt scratched. Some humans are just chosen.
How do you scratch a turtle’s butt? Asking for a friend
Lol it does sound funny but scratch the back of it's shell. They can feel it.

That just made my day! 😊
My redfoot follows me. I gives him food.
