ChocoChloe1

But, but, five Freddy night at?

[deleted]

I will admit that’s one of the places where I got the name from

ChocoChloe1

Respectful

[deleted]

I promise I won’t kill anyone (yes i am very interested in robotics)

Hallowed-Plague

you never said the robots cant kill people

[deleted]

damn it you’re on to me

ifunkinghatelife

roll a persuasion check

[deleted]

18 B)

koruskare

Okay everyone, the robots are not going to kill us it's fine!

ThomasWilbanks

With disadvantage

OozyPilot84

say, might you be interested in robotics?

the_orange_alligator

I got mine (Ricky) from a musical character who sings a song about sexy cat women, so I would not be embarrassed about name origins

FastidiousFrog

Eyy a fellow Ride the Cyclone fan, great to see one in the wild. I respect the name choice, Ricky is a great character :D

[deleted]

Deadname: Luca Preferred Name: Lucy As you can see, my naming is completely original, and I would NEVER be so uncreative as to literally change one letter.

Muttmanic

I definitely did not do the same thing by changing Nicholas to Nichole. Absolutely couldn't be me.

walmart_len_kagamine

BRO LITERALLY deadname: Rachele preferred name: Ray (and my second name is stolen from a YouTuber)

politepain

I just drew a _line_ through the last letter So now I'm Adaline

HiddenPeppermint

im going to have a collection of middle names or new idea, just ge tattoos of names i like

[deleted]

I’m just imagining an entire shopping list of names tattooed on an arm

ZVEZDA_HAVOC

i highly recommend this, i've been stealing names from the things i'm hyperfixated on for like two and a half years now and i have 13 names my initials may be a nightmare but hey, i can tell people in full sincerity that i named myself after shotgun shells three separate times

ifunkinghatelife

that is such a vibe

koruskare

Which ones? Did you name yourself after dragon's breath or nah?

ZVEZDA_HAVOC

Zvezda, Barrikada, Poleva. first two are from the KS-23, the flashbang and AP slug respectively. Poleva is from a pair of 12ga/20ga shells (expanding slugs and FMJ slugs, i believe) that i only know of from tarkov

[deleted]

In my early twenties, I made a list of baby names if I ever were to have a child. Fast forward ten years. The eggshell cracked, I hatched. Tried a variation of my deadname, but I really hated it. Then I remembered that baby name list, and I took the first two girl names on it for myself. Three years later and I'm still happy with my choice. 🥰🥰🥰

AsakalaSoul

i love your username

[deleted]

Thank you, that's sweet of you to say 🥰💛

panned_obsolescence

Omg same! Talking baby names with my gf when I was 20, and it was one that I just loved. I couldn't get it out of my head for ten years, it was just always \*there\*. Egg cracked, and I was like "...fine, you win" lol

Denzanmaru

I solve it by wearing names like clothes. Just try on a name for a while, see how it feels. wear it for a while if you like it, chose something else if you dont \^w^ I think Im on my 6th name

AlexDoesAThing11

im on my third, fits pretty well tho :3

AryaDRed

Step one: be 11-13 years old and choose an "artist name" Step two: rarly use it for art, insted use it for the internet. Step three: play vrc and people use that name. Step four: like it better than your legal name and stick with it. Step fife: realise that your new name was stolen from Eragon. Step six: realise that the other name you like is also stolen from Eragon. Step seven: realise that your fucking dislexic and spelled bother wrong. Step seven: ceep em and have a funny randome story about your names. (Optional step eight: use the last name you gave yourself too.) And this is how Arya D.Red came to life :3

Skwirelle_MtF

Literally, Saphira is in my name list... Eragon names go brrrrr

Lyrical_Kyrial

Possible Strategy: look up birth name in census data for birth year by rarity, swap genders, absolutely hate it, scroll through until finding something that resonates. Alter to fit

soyenby_in_a_skirt

When you get old you can be a sweet grandpa named Willy, honestly great name buddy

[deleted]

peepaw willy

soyenby_in_a_skirt

Aww🩷

[deleted]

That name always comes back

Negative_Speedforce

My parents named me after a character from Final Fantasy 8. I named myself after the player character from Knights of The Old Republic.

Annoying_Ramone

Honestly? I googled "gender neutral names" and chose something that sounded cool. Have been using it for like a year now

NumerousBeesInADress

Yep same I've been using it for almost 3 years now and my parents let me change my legal name more than 2 years ago :3

The-First-Starchmast

how about “Kaal’chazmaroth The Inevitable”

braindeadcoyote

My dad named me after a character from pre-christian Greek mythology. He picked the wrong one, though

AdmiralCheesecake

all i did was masculinize my name lol

TheGange

I didnt figure it out on earth i figured it on the mooon!! (Im Luna)

PeppasMint

I named myself after my OC "peppa mint"

oishipops

from objects 🙏 i've been going by sal online for like 4 years now. it started off as a joke (sal is short for salmon) but it stuck around

ZealotMotif

Make a list of all the names you absolutely want Think about how they would sound to you and in your personal life and to have other people use them Narrow the list down until you hit that spot where you are able to coin flip If it lands on a name and you love it, go with that If it lands on a name and you find yourself wishing it landed on the other go with the name it didn't land on

[deleted]

I'm just keeping my birthname

walmart_len_kagamine

power move tbh

[deleted]

I chose my current name after stealing it from an ULTRAKILL character and I've somehow kept it so far.

Polarsan99

My deadname, you may have it.

BaumBen69

I made a list, shot it throught ai, made some polls at places, compiled data, sleap over it and then just repeat until you got like three and then you can try them on discord or somewhere, just introduce yourself with them.

HarmonyGamer101

Well my name was literally my gamer tag from before I transitioned, it just kind of stuck and it made the transition easy because I was used to it already ^^

DashyTrash

I stole mine from Rainbow Dash. Entirely because I couldn’t call myself Pinkie

AnAverageTransGirl

trans girl named finger:

DashyTrash

Oh it gets better. My full name is Dash and two other ponies. Alter ego is named Eclipse Umbra Moongazer. My shame disappeared along with my deadname

SpinninDaWebb96

Transfem here. I kept my first name as it’s unisex, though I almost regret cause I’m constantly asked if I’m changing my name cause “Corey is a boys name”…it’s about as unisex as Blake or Ryan. Sure there are girls with the name but most associate it as boys name 😥. My middle name used to be William but now it’s Willow.

GenderIsForHumans

1. Step: Looking up lists of gender neutral names 2. Step: Finding the name of a male fictional character that means a lot to you 3. Step: Debate over one week if it would be cringe, to steal it, and if it is really neutral or more masc 4. Step: Settling down with a different pronounciation 5. Step: Realising after 3 days you miss the initial of your deadname 6. Step: Brainstorming for a second name that beginns with the same letter as deadname while also sounding melodic combined together and adding a fem touch 7. Step: Realizing there was a name from your childhood you wanted to have instead of deadname, because it was able to be shortened to a gender neutral name 8. Step: Realizing a friend once called you something inspirational that can either be used as a last name or gender neutral first name So right now I still use a double name to introduce myself, while I'm okay people only using the first part. But for my ID I have 4 names in mind

Vexet

When you already started with a name that’s neutral/more often given to girls, then change to the even more feminine variant of that name

NopeosGyerek

Looks like no matter what name you choose, William will always come back

[deleted]

IT DOES THOUGH I KEEP LOOKING AT OTHER NAMES AND IT KEEPS POPPING UP it’s not even funny man

IAwardTransPeople

Me: I like Fenix NO WAIT FELIX IS BETTER but Fenix tho 👀 Nah I like Felix more. Wait Abel would be easier for the people around me. Hmm not about to choose my name based on my perceived ease of the people around me. But Abel is also kinda based. Yup I like Felix best. still not sure if I'll stick with it though

htothegund

One tip I heard is to give a name you want to try at a coffee shop so you can test it out in a low-stakes environment. I did it when I thought about changing my name and it helped me narrow things down.

Backalley_Lurker

My name (Alicen) is made from a very altered version of my username (Aliconator) and in itself was made from two things I made up, (Alacazome), who just sounded cool and has no meaning, and (Diovenator), named after my fav dinosaur at the time (Australovenator) and (Dio) from JoJo…. So yes… my name in essence is a JoJo reference.

Summoner_Rikku

First girlfriend (who was a bad b!tch)

Albert_Pansker

Transmasc here, I don't know if this is useful, but during the phase of choosing my name I actually made a list of names I would like to live with, and then I literally went around asking colleagues and such which of those names could be taken most seriously. This process boiled a list of around 12 names down to 4, and the rest was a randomising alogrithm.

Fyru_Hawk

“WILLIAM AFTON! IT’S WILLIAM AFTON!”

Cupcakesword999

took my name (Zullie) from a dark souls character (Zullie the witch) decision was made easier by the fact that her witch dress is one of the best looking outfits in the game, plus its a very unique name

misakithefennec

i just thought that i hate my deadname and Laura sounds really cute

[deleted]

I was watching enby memes and then I named myself after a name that appeared in 1 of them without questioning it

Spirited_Confection7

I went through them with friends to see with one fit

Corbel_

i still dont have a name lmao

nobodyimportant1377

i just picked one tbh. i was considering a lot of options and my family had a lot to say about it but after a while i got too attached to it to change it i guess. (even though i use a different spelling now) I recommend just going by that for a while and if you don't like it, change it. or you'll just do the same thing and make it permanent. OR try it out online? so you won't have to tell people again if you decide to change it

summerain1980

For me, once I found it. I just knew immediately thT was it. No more looming. It was instant.

DefinitelyNotErate

I mean I kept my given name and then just plopped 3 extra names on top of it, So...

AnAverageTransGirl

make a list let people choose from the list thats what i did i have eighty five names

Misaki_Yomiyama

I tried using Melody online but couldn't get it to work in real life. Evelyn is my favorite one I found so far but it doesn't go well with my Asian last name so... any ideas?

fantabulousass

I wanted something vaguely gender neutral, with Slavic roots, since I’m not very close to my mom’s side of the family. I chose Aleksei because I like being called Aleks… I will say, though, I’ve been contemplating the name Michael for a while. I don’t think I’m going to change my name again but I might use it as my middle name

FarEasternMyth

I picked Miranda because it's the name of my favorite anime character, and is also the name of a moon of Uranus. It was either that or Phoebe, which makes me think of Phoenixes, and is a moon of Saturn. Go with whatever wacky criteria you want!

CustomizedL

I got mine from a YouTube shorts. Came up in a list of names that used to be common in the past and I liked how it sounded, so I chose it as my new name.

mayoyoyoyoyoyoyo

I had an assessment in drama where me and me group had to make a smol tiny play and my characters name was Timothy and the name really suited my appearance :p

[deleted]

If it makes you feel any better, I've been through like fifty names now... still not sure if I'm gonna keep the name Tobias. XD

rrei_i

I was stuck between 4 names, but ended up going to Amelia. I chose it because people were calling me Amelia in my dreams. Even people who have no idea that I’m transitioning. So it felt like my subconscious chose for me

GVmG

My name kinda just popped into existance, in a weird way. I was early-questioning and I hadn't really thought of getting a new name yet. I was literally just reading through the wikipedia list of angel names, cause I noticed that a lot of angels have "ae" in them and end in "-el". And my brain went "I know the name Rachael is the only "real name" I know that fits that - *wait a second*" Then I misspelled it on purpose cause I like the "rae" combination more and my old nickname was "rainfall" anyway so now I can go by "raenfall". Also cause the only thing I like about my deadname is that it's technically misspelled (dad was a lil drunk when he registered me) which made an otherwise very common name a bit more unique, so I went for a misspelling on purpose.

Rohan_Kishibaby

I have said it before and i'll say it again. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic.

Rohan_Kishibaby

Realizing i do not have the role on here Hi, my name is Ronin btw

HopefullyThisGuy

Transfems and transmascs trading names like fae creatures, you can have mine OP

Cealvannn

I took te name of my "single" second great aunts "roomate" of 30 years, I think she would approve Do some family history and see what kinds of stories you can find

DepPet_syw

I chose Luna because: - i love history, so latin name - i often am compared to Luna Lovegood - i love nights over days (luna = moon) - i own cat ears (luna from sailor moon) - its short and no nickname needed! There rly was only one choice

JRSlayerOfRajang

I made a list of eighty names I liked. I then drew lots randomly, said it to myself, thought about it, and then put it in one of two boxes. (You can do this digitally). One box was 'nah, actually', the other was 'maybe?' Then once I'd whittled it down to about thirty I made a spreadsheet. Along each axis of rows and columns, I had all the names. So then in the cells, I paired them up. Like Helen on x and Cassandra on y ended up with a cell for Cassandra Helen/Helen Cassandra, aaaand those names just don't sound good *together* to me, so I marked the cell red. By the time I finished the table I had a shortlist of six first names and three last names that I'd marked as green. Then I did the table again with that shortlist and thought about the combinations. Then I wrote them down, practiced signatures and initials, said them aloud, flipped order, and created longer combinations with more middle names. After a month or so in total, I had it down to four first names and one surname. I dropped one of those four first names because I realised the full name would be too long for digital inputs and forms, and settled for a name that could fit on them so I can write the full thing whenever I get the chance. By the time I was done, there was only one full name for me, and it fits, and I love it, and I've had a bunch of compliments on my full name since then. I could happily go by two other names that didn't make the final one because they didn't sound as good, but hey, there's a convenient alias or two if a stranger asks my name. Or for a pen-name as a writer. Or to be called online. Here's the thing though, you can change your name again! If you pick one, try it for a while, and settle on a different name, that's totally cool. There's no sunk cost here, I just wanted to be very methodical and really narrow it down to names that felt right and sounded good together.

WhyNotATransAccount

Named myself after a cute girl that helped me out a lot with figuring out i was trans :3

latexcaity

I picked my name for the sluttiest girl I knew on high school , she was very hot and got pregnant first. I always tried to get with her but never could, so like yea that's my name now . Typing it out I don't know if good back story or not lol 😅

chorus42

Once I had a list that I couldn't knock anything off of just by looking at it, I decided on some criteria for what I wanted out of a name, and then I pointed them based on how many criteria they met. One got a 5 out of 5, but only after I reconsidered my criteria a few times. The first pass gave me a name that when I asked my friends, they all universally disliked, and that mattered to me. In retrospect, I definitely feel like I dodged a bullet with that one, but I'm sure any of the frontrunners would have been just fine.

Tomatobean64

I have a friend who goes by Ted, but when he named himself, he chose Theodore Thaadeus Harrington Hill. Sometimes you choose all the names.

[deleted]

Tell Theodore Thaadeus Harrington Hill that his name is absolutely amazing and I love it

Alace42

I took mine from the resident evil movies

The_Chaos_Pope

I've been using the feminine version of my deadname. I'm not certain I like it but it's fitting me better than any others I've tried.

lordbuckethethird

Simons always been a banger name to me

Cass_the_Fae

TBH my name just came to mind without even searching for it.

britomartisse

That's how I ended up with 3 middle names and it could have been 4

__X0X0_

I named myself Rowan but now i want to be Jack,Kenny,Nash and noel

ElysianDaydream

I stole my name from a guy I played among us with 3 years ago, and it just stayed in the back of my head for a while. There are a lot of other names I like, but I’m also very attached to this one. What I suggest is making a list of the ones you like, and just go with what feels right. You can always change your name if you feel it’s not quite right

RocketKassidy

I picked from the list of baby names my mom came up with for me before I was born. Felt like it was an easy way to limit my choices and see if anything there worked for me, and luckily I found my name that way💕

ChickenSpaceProgram

Once I figured out that I was trans, I just started making a list of names I liked, and picked a couple that I liked a lot. One became my middle name, the other became my first name.

Nat_Higgins

“How can you pick a favorite if you haven’t tried them all yet!” - u/OneTopicAtATime

PastelBot

Named myself after a web comic character with severe anxiety. It seemed on brand.

Gwenificent_

My first name was pretty easy to find. Ever since I first heard the name Madelaine I was in love with it. And still am. Used it for characters in video games and even wanted to use it for my child/one of my children. If it ever came to having children. At some point, I came to the realization that children aren't for me. And when my egg cracked last year, I just took the opportunity to use my favourite name for myself! My second and third name took some time to find. Didn't have any idea which names to use at first. All I knew was that all three names should harmonize. They had to have a good ring to them. Then at some point I created a new character in a game and named her Gwen and a few days later I was like "Wait, I wanna use that name!". But Madelaine Gwen doesn't sound good to me. But still wanting to use that name, I thought, "What if I use it as my third name?". Then came the search for a name to put in the middle. Talked with a friend about that, and he was like, "What about Ophelia?". All three together sounded pretty good, but I wasn't really satisfied with that. A few weeks later, I started another CP2077 playthrough and at some point it hit me. Valerie! Madelaine Valerie Gwen! Jackpot!

shit_flayer

I'm trans fem so I can't relate to the meme

Ijbindustries

Scientific method of choosing a name: 1. Find a name that you like 2. Try using the name 3. Evaluate the results of using the name and see whether or not you like it.

[deleted]

I had a huge list, but went with my choice because of a lot of reasons. * It is gender neutral and I wasn't fully out yet, allowing people I met not to questions things while still using my new name. * It has my same initial which means I don't have to update my 10 year old email that uses my initials. * Its the name I would have had if I had been born the right sex. I loved this idea and it made the initial shock easier on my mom. * My mom chose it from her favorite book series as a kid. I read them as well as a kid and loved the character. Sometimes I regret it because my name is kind of plain, its technically the masculine spelling, and my voice doesn't pass yet so sometimes I get called "Brian" over the phone/zoom.

mincerafter42

i scrounged around [20000-names.com](http://20000-names.com/) for a while and eventually came up with a name which i liked and my friends found fitting

[deleted]

I went with Lilith because its a nice name and my father would hate it. And a few other reasons.

transbreadboi

i literally woke up from a dream a few years ago and my brain said "JULIAN." like the word was literally stuck in my head. so i decided to follow my dreams and that was my name for awhile! but eventually that started to not fit and now i just go by jules :) got it legally changed last year which feels soooo good

Datgurlsteinworld

Purple guy?

walmart_len_kagamine

i couldnt choose between two names, so i just didnt. some people know me by Sunny, some know me by Ray 🧍🏻👍

[deleted]

Deadname: John Preferred Name: Johanna I am a truly original and creative thinker and totally didn't get this name idea from a Bob Dylan song.

walmart_len_kagamine

OH AND THAT ONE DISCORD BOT WAIT

walmart_len_kagamine

pronoun bot

Acidlily16

At some point I was like “fuck it” Also you can change if you don’t like it, it’s up to you

Yabhay-Cake

First: find (or create) a character you really like Step 2: become

ifunkinghatelife

am currently in the process of creation, will become when i am of legal age to change my body, wish me luck friend

Yabhay-Cake

Best of luck on your endeavours, see you on the other side

raidenkai

My little sister gave me mine

[deleted]

Omg that’s so sweet

raidenkai

Oh yeah. I tried getting her to ask my parents for what names they might have had in mind if I were AFAB but that came up with nothing, so she pointed out the FaceApp gender swaps I'd sent her and was like "These make me think 'Rachael'" so I ran with it.

Shuichi_eats_kids

I steal the names of my favvorites characters, eridan is a fire ass name and no one can tell me otherwwise

NumerousBeesInADress

I just looked up gender neutral names and found one that fit me extremely well within 5 minutes

Foxyplayz3

My favorite youtuber illymation (except spelled differently)

Nervous_Feeling_5139

Simple. V i d e o g a m e s

Zealousideal-Cod9677

I didn't really name myself. Or at least not consciously. I was really depressed and drinking a lot back in the day and per usual I got black out drunk one night. I woke up and started my day only to check my email and see an email from a gender therapist addressed to a Lidia. Too embarrassed to do anything I started seeing them under that name and it grew on me. Now it's my legal name.

Tricky-Class-6884

It just kinda came to me, I don't know how else to explain it

ChunkLightTuna01

Well I just stole it from the first girl I remember ever feeling envy towards

TheWhiteCrowParade

Oh, I joke about building an ark whenever it rains.

The_FlyingDutchwoman

I stole my name from a folklore character.

SeleneQueenz

That's the funny thing ppl assume that because I do like yugioh that my name came from the card I did not know about the card prior to coming up with my name I literally tried finding a name that I've seen so few ppl with it and see if I liked to be called by it

---Jaime---

Tv

Tony_Stank0326

“I always come back”

SaucyBechamel

The initials of my original names spell out a masculine name that I really, really like/have always felt drawn to...made it an easy choice, once I'd decided I didn't want to go with the masculine version of my original first name (both versions of my original first name are unusual and hard for the uninitiated to pronoun).

PrimordialBias

I went with the name my parents would have given me if I was born a girl. Which is the name of an anti-depressant and is a lot better than the Devil’s son from the Omen movies.

Fayemalice

Har har har har, har har har har har haaaaar

mosscarpetleafroof

I named myself after the fictional man I am in love with.

USoffuckyouintheA

i stole mine of a dragon in a swedish children's book.

ifunkinghatelife

gonna be honest, i was feeling dysphoric with my name, and was quite literally just kinda looking at an enby tiktok compilation when i came across mine, i've only found two others since then i would be comfortable being called. but honestly, when i saw it it just kinda, clicked? idk i saw it, felt an intense euphoria and then told my friends my name, and they've called me that ever since 🥰(and they avoid using my dead name in front of my parents as much as possible <3)

[deleted]

Your friends seem awesome! Glad that worked out for ya.

blake_argent

Given name: Karl Chosen name: Lark Justifications: 1) I like playing with words, and lark is an anagram of Karl. 2) I like playing with words, and lark is a homonym. 3) A nonbinary naming stereotype is naming oneself after nature things, so as an enby, why not choose birb name? 4) Another definition of lark is to enjoy oneself by behaving in a playful and mischievous way, which suits my general self and mannerisms.

[deleted]

I think Lark is the coolest name ever - that’s a really cool way to choose it!

PigIAsTraalt

Most people: Thinking immediately of William Afton Me: Thinking immediately of William the Conquerer

[deleted]

Alternatively, Prince William

TheHawkpant69

shows we like, and books we like, and objects we like (looking at you they/thems who are named something like pebble and my gemstone gals!)

NecroPhyre

I got a list of baby names from my mom and picked from that xD

Tranmasc_SeaSerpent

Oh I just find names and add them to my hoard, I have like 7-10 names I think now lmao

Sal_Was

I went through like 30, Ash, Asher, Alastor, Ben, Z, but Sal kinda just stuck.

Hawkn500

i just named myself after badass women in history Anarcha Westcott, Mary Shelley, Margaret (“Magpie” Killjoy) because no one should forget anarcha lucy and betsy and we should burn every mention of “doctor” sims. and the others are because i have a thing for women science fiction authors

PokeGirlOFFICIAL

Was that the bite of '87?

[deleted]

The crisis of ‘23

PokeGirlOFFICIAL

Lol

MillieSkadillie

Sometimes it just comes down to exploring common and uncommon naming options and trying out some you like. Eventually you may find a name that just feels like you, and I think that's the most special part of the process.

EndemoDaWalker

I've been interested in astronomy since the day I opened my eyes, and there was this star that I thought had the coolest fucking name ever, and since I love talking about space n stars I would absolutely turn my head if I heard someone say Arcturus, so it was a no brainer. But for middle name- yeah I'm around where you are

BananaBoy238

Lol that’s my actual name and I only realised recently that my parents have mispronounced it my whole life (cis guy btw)

[deleted]

Well, now I’m curious

BananaBoy238

My family calls me Villain, Villem, Wee-Ann, or Veigh-lem but never the correct pronunciations

Habichtsadler

I had trouble finding *any* name at all. I had like... 2 contestants that i was realiszically able to choose from. (Unlckily for me, my name literally means "vacuum cleaner" in my language, which i realized a little too late. How fun.)

[deleted]

Maybe take advantage of that. I’m sure your name is great!

midnight_matcha

It's so difficult! Choosing from alternate versions of your dead name could work. It helps others get used to addressing the new you and it pretty well narrows down your selection. However, if you're looking to really distance yourself from that part of your life, perhaps when you're making accounts or other things in your private life, use different names. Like a coffee order or takeout order maybe. See how you like it on things. Again, emails and such! Whatever you choose though I'm sure itll be great :)

[deleted]

Thank you!

sora-da-weeb

i got my name from one of my favorite kpop groups (nct and my name is neo) but it works really well for me :D

waters-serenade

I really like the Moon and creative endeavors, so Artemis (Art for short)

Ojay42

only saw one name I liked and just went with it
