Waxing rips the hair roots out, while shaving only cuts it. Waxing leaves skin smoother for longer. As for thinning hair, I don’t know

gnoani

HOWEVER, be aware that plucking or waxing removes the whole hair, allowing the follicle to close, meaning that the new hair that takes its place may have trouble finding its way to the surface. Different skin areas have different traits. Beware of ingrown hairs

TwinInfinite

As can shaving *too closely*, as I painfully discovered when I shaved my arms for the first time a couple of months ago. I still have sores healing on my right arm (much worse because I'm left handed and achieved a much closer shave) No amount of exfoliating seemed to help. Not sure what I'm gonna do about it so I'm just letting the forest grow for now. =\[

AthenaEryma

If you're not already, look into safety razors or [the Leaf razor](https://leafshave.com) (which I use) that uses safety razor blades. Gets a very close shave, with **way** fewer ingrown hairs than catridge razors.

chromatic_megafauna

Damn that's an expensive razor. Is it worth it? (Not in the market personally, just curious)

powerof27

i don't use that one, i use a cheaper safety razor by Jungle Culture which doesn't have any pivoting mechanisms but ive never felt an issue with that the main benefit with a safety razor is the fact that you buy razor blades which you can swap out and replace just the blade itself, which means that it ends up being cheaper/better for the environment, and at anytime you can clean out the hairs/shaving cream from the inside meaning that you can use your blades for much longer before needing to replace it you do have to be careful since you are using an actual razor blade which can cut you, but after enough time you would get used to it

AthenaEryma

I mean, "worth it" depends on your income. It's not magic, but in my experience it does do what it says on the tin: safety razor-quality shave, using no plastic, as easy as a cartridge razor. It uses safety razor blades, which are stupid cheap - like pennies per blade, so eventually it'll pay for itself, in theory. Cartridge razors gave me both ALL THE INGROWN HAIRS and a shitty shave, so this was kind of a last-ditch option before safety razors for me. If cartridge razors work for you I wouldn't blame you for keeping using them. Cons: - It's kind of bulky, which makes it hard to get the little bit of mustache right under my nose and other tight areas. - It can get slippery, given its a polished chunk of metal. They sell a silicone cover you can use if it's a problem; I have one but don't use it because I like the look better without it and it doesn't bother me much. - Soap scum builds up and you gotta clean it. Kinda gross. - The thingy that holds the blades is a bit fiddly. This isn't a problem most of the time, but it's annoying when you have to clear some hair that got trapped between the blades mid-shower, and some people don't like handling the blades.

[deleted]

Yes. Not only does the blade last longer, it's half the price for refills. It saves you money down the road. I got a safety razor and it's the best thing from legs, to face (please clean the blade before switching zones).

Cornhusk1

I use dollar shave club's executive razor (no joke) and it's extremely well built and I very rarely cut myself with it and it does a very good job. Regular shaving is how I keep smooth but I don't really get significant regrowth until 3 days after shaving so if you grow body hair back quickly I don't know what to say other than make shaving a part of your routine and it'll become as easy as breathing eventually.

IronIrma93

Asshole new hair should just not be

[deleted]

Good point! I recommend exfoliating regularly anywhere you've waxed for the next 6 weeks!

[deleted]

Exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate! Exfoliation helps in removing the thick skin at the top which makes it much easier for new hair to penetrate skin. Seriously. Exfoliate! I barely have amy ingrown hair and Im basically a fkin monké hair-wise.

staykinky

Honestly avoid waxing/delapatories altogether imo. The best solution is oftentimes just putting in the work and doing the shaving. I've tried everything and routine is the best way I've learned, there's a long explanation comment I made elsewhere.

[deleted]

What can I buy for waxing?

DeathPandaa

I've tried the Flamingo brand (From Target if you're in the US), and it works pretty well. They also have special shaped ones for private areas too!

beskardboard

I've used Nair a couple times before, it's pretty good but make sure you use the post-waxing wipes afterwards and then take a shower because otherwise it is HELL to clean up. The actual waxing is like ripping off a giant bandaid.

DeathPandaa

Yep! Good advice! And honestly you see a bunch of people (usually cis men) on TV every time freaking out about how it hurts but it's not *that* bad. Like it's painful, but not *that* painful.

beskardboard

Like I said, it's just a really big bandaid and maybe some sensitivity for like half an hour afterwards. The REAL pain (at least for my neurodivergent ass) is dealing with the sensory bullshit provided by the adhesive and wipes

ato-de-suteru

I get squicked by hair gel, am I in for a bad time with that stuff?

call_me_gwyn

Cis men love performatively being babies about things most normal people go through, like waxing, threading, straightening your hair, or taking time to use soap anywhere except your armpits

Saragon4005

Hey!! I'm going to ask you to help me lol, although I should obtain nair first, or wax,,, I hate body hair.

beskardboard

i will hold your hand dont worry

Saragon4005

:3 thanks!! Although I am less worried about the pain more about the help part,,,

CarToonZ213

\*saves\* I'll need this later

[deleted]

Waxing strips.

[deleted]

All I can say is if you've never waxed before don't use Wakse brand, too much control needed you'll burn yourself like I did.

staykinky

I would recommend against waxing if you expect to get laser removal soon, there's a long (6mo) grace period between the two. I'm a gorilla, incredibly hairy but I keep very very smooth because I *really* learned how to shave, and all it took was practice and getting used to it. I tried everything for years, I got laser on my face, 2 full cycles of 6 10 years apart, which helps but I still have a full beard after a few days, but everything else is just shaving shaving shaving. You just get used to it and your body eventually gets used to it also and it becomes easier and easier. Like so many things in life it's easy to get stressed up by the overwhelming nature of something but if you just put in the work and diligence it's really nothing at all. Drink lots of water keep your skin healthy and use lotion before bed, yr skin will be perfectly accepting of a razer. I spent years of my life in the same position you are and now I just have a routine when it comes to what I shave and whenever my legs start getting hairy maybe every 3 or 4 days I shave them I shave my chest every other day and my face whenever I need it, at least every morning. Just suck it up, put in the work and do the thing. Once you get in the mindset of quickly doing it and comfortably doing it, it becomes a 10-minute thing out of every couple days and no more worries. And you're talking about somebody who is under very close examination 4K cameras and everything, my body is beautifully smooth and blemish-free, I think shaving is the most natural, cheapest way to keep it that way.

call_me_gwyn

I like the wakse wax beads from Ulta. They come as little beads in pink & blue, \*almost\* trans flag colors. Hot waxing is \*not\* for starters though, and if you have any friends or relatives that have been doing it, definitely get advice from them.

Snowflakish

The only way to do it is to suffer.

Regi413

Doesn’t ripping the hair out make it grow back thinner too? So it accomplishes that too.

chimppower184

yep. for my sister, she waxed pretty consistently for 2 years and now she barely has any arm hair

Thebombuknow

Is waxing better than epilating? From what I can tell, they accomplish the same thing, but is one superior?

spitefulIncentive

laser hair removal is a thing but it's certainly not an option for a lot of people

[deleted]

It was life saving but crazy expensive. I need some touch ups and can't afford it

spitefulIncentive

you could always just do away with skin altogether

I bought this [at home IPL unit](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/smoothskin-pure-ipl-hair-removal-system-black/6452942.p?skuId=6452942) and I would highly recommend it. It can even be used on the face as long as you are careful with eye protection. Considering the alternative, it saved me a ton of money.

[deleted]

Thank you so much!!! This is very helpful

Erikatharsis

I got an at-home Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal device for I think $80. It's kind of like laser hair removal, but not quite. I've been using my IPL device for a while, but it's been far from as effective as I'd hoped it would be — it seems like my hairs are currently too "thick" or whatever for IPL to be effective. Here's hoping that HRT will thin my hairs out enough for it to work. …For that matter, here's hoping I get HRT within the coming year.

staykinky

If you're not spending like 400 bucks for an IPL you're throwing your money away in my opinion. I've seen the Tria work and everything else seems like its just unsafe or underpowered.

AnotherCatgirl

laser hair removal equipment has been getting cheaper recently

[deleted]

HRT will make it thinner. As others have said, waxing and laser does wonders. I'll also throw out that just using conditioner as shaving cream and doing a once over every day will keep things in check

[deleted]

Conditioner as shaving cream?

[deleted]

Yeah like when you shave you can just use hair conditioner instead of changing cream. It works really well and does wonders for avoiding shaving bumps and such. I've never once used shaving cream bc it's so convenient

staykinky

Wanna let you know that if I used conditioner as a shaving cream my entire body would break out in a massive rash. That is definitely not for everybody, might be ok if tou're using a conditioner thats cheap or lotiony, but if you're using any sort of like Advanced hair treatment conditioner DO NOT SHAVE WITH IT.

[deleted]

I'll be sure to keep that in mind

iamtheultimateshoe

i get the pain, but opposite—mine grows too slowly 😩

OriDargonfaxe

That's extremely valid.

SumerianThrowaway

You can buy a home laser hair removal kit online. Apply at max power to an area once every four weeks, as hair grows in cycles.

[deleted]

How have I only just heard about that now?? I just looked online and it seems way too good to be true. Is there a catch? Is it actually permanent? It doesn't even seem that expensive for what it does...

Ashliest-Ashley

It is definitely too good to be true. At home lasers are far less powerful and are usually IPL devices meaning that 1) it's unlikely you totally destroy the follicle and 2) not much of the power is actually being absorbed by the hair anyway. One poster is right, you definitely pay a premium for the technicians expertise, but with professional hair removal you are also paying for access to much higher power and narrower spectrum lasers that have been specifically designed to permanently remove hair.

[deleted]

So which one should I go with?

Blaycon

I recommend Braun's Silk Expert Pro 5. It's a bit on the expensive side, but I guarantee its efficacy. It also analyses your skin tone and selects the best level to use for it on its own. And it comes with two different windows; One for large areas, and a smaller one for tricky places like eblows, knees, etc. Mine arrived on march 4th, and here's my results with it so far: * Chest hair is pretty much non-existent. There's a few stubborn strands here and there, but it's still about 3% of what I used to have. It's only a matter of time. * Arms have very similar progress. There's a few patches left as opposed to the individual strands from my chest, and I'm pretty sure it's because I tend to miss those spots. * Armpits were presenting some resistance at first, but now they're also losing the battle with about 25% left. The same can be said of belly and abdomen. * Legs are also beyond half as progress goes, though I guess it's because I do miss a lot of spots there. I have very thick tighs and calves, so the area I need to cover is quite big. * I just recently started with my groin, but after just 2 sessions, I dare say that's the area with the least resistance. Do be careful if you go there, though. The machine explicitly states not to use on genitals as it can burn you because skin there tends to be darker. I only did so because I was confident I'm pale enough it wouldn't do it. * Finally, the face. That's the most disappointing part so far. Facial hair's roots tend to go very deep and are also very resilient, so I'm still hopeful, but that may take a while. To begin with, the machine also warns us not to use it there because it can also burn, though I did it anyway, and I've had no such trouble. Once more, this may vary between individuals, so do make sure to test before going all in if you choose to do it. This machine has pretty good reviews overall, and you can often find it in the upper half of top lists, which is why I went for it after I lost my patience with the previous one I had. From experience I can tell you, don't go for the cheap ones, as tempting as they are. If you have any other questions, let me know, and I can answer here or through messages.

Minako-cali

Just want to add for anyone reading that these results may not be typical. The literature says to expect a max reduction of like 60% hair and that's closer to what I've seen after several months of using the same device.

Blaycon

Yes, this is important. Every person is different. I'm what you could call "an ideal candidate" for this sort of procedure. I have ivory skin and near black hair, which makes it really easy for the machine to target the hair as well as using the maximum settings without burning me.

Toa_Firox

I have this exact machine but I barely saw any impact on the worst areas of my hair, I'd get the 'rubber-band' feeling of mild pain when using it but nothing even remotely close to the pain when epilating. I'd always do it with hair that was shaven and then left to grow for a day (so that the head of the hair wasn't flush as it didn't seem to catch many right after shaving). I have black hair and white skin with some tanning here and there so it should have worked on me, was I doing something wrong? I also got told by an at the time friend that overuse can cause skin cancer and my arms were getting quite red so I stopped using it and haven't used it again for about a year. Is there any validity to this or was she bullshitting? The redness has since gone away but the area is permenantly tanned (likely from anual holidays though not the IPL)

Blaycon

I'd say there could be some risk, but not directly. The machine itself doesn't provide enough radiation for that. However, there's a reason all these warn you that you shouldn't expose yourself to the sun a day before and after using them. This is because the skin becomes very sensitive. Sensitive enough to cause increase in melanine production when exposed during that frame. The sun is the real culprit in this case. Regarding the redness, I've never experienced any, but it's supposed to be normal unless it lasts for too long and hurts. If it does, the device also instructs to stop using it. And even though a day shouldn't do too much, letting the hair grow does diminish the effect of the IPL. This is because you are increasing the surface area the heat works on, so the effect on the root is reduced slightly. In short, as long as you follow the instructions, it should safely work as intended. Though as someone mentioned, the effects do vary between individuals. Edit: I'd also like to add that epilating also causes the hair to be a bit more resilient toward IPL treatment. I don't know why, but most people agree with that statement. If you epilated the areas that were causing you trouble before trying the IPL, that may be the cause too. And finally, yes, the rubber band sensation is what we expect. It should never hurt as much as epilating.

Proclaimer_of_heroes

Something I never hear anybody else point out is that, while the at-home option is weaker, it's also at home and can be used pretty much whenever hair starts coming through again. So you just, you know, keep using it. To compare: 9 sessions of laser on my face (have probably 1 or 2 more to go to its done) has eliminated almost all of my beard growth, something IPLs are just not strong enough for cause facial hair is different to body hair. But the rest of my body hair has substantially decreased hair growth after half a year of regular use and that'll continue to improve with its use. Laser on my face has been about $300 so far and would be in the thousands if i had that many sessions across my body, contrast that with the $250 i paid for my IPL. Even if IPL doesn't quite finish everything off by the end of the year, laser would likely only need a session or two to cap it, and ideally not even full body.

THEE_Person376

My IPL machine cost me £300. You get about 250000-400000 zaps from it. You zap the area you want to remove all hair from when it is clean shaven once a week and after four weeks you will seriously start to see hair growth slow down and a few follicles shut down since it’s not as potent as the laser in the salon, it may not remove some stubborn hairs and only slow them down a bit but that’s just a portion of hairs on the body that’s different for everyone. Laser doesn’t destroy or kill a follicle anyways whether it’s at home or in a salon. It just ‘shuts-down’ and puts the follicle into a ‘sleep-mode’ for a long period and then you need to zap them again every so often to regulate and keep the follicles sleeping. Get the salon laser or electrolysis for your facial hair when/if you’re ready and can afford it and for body hair, the choice would be up to you if you wanna fork out the extra money for body laser salon sessions or a DIY IPL laser machine at home. (Or just keep on doing whatever temporary hair removal methods you are at home (shaving/epliating/waxing) on your body and wait for HRT (if you want it) for the hair to slow down and thin out to cis-woman hair growth.)

SumerianThrowaway

Tattoo removal lasers aren't expensive either. It's less the gear you're usually paying for, and more the skill of the professionals handling it.

[deleted]

Wait is doing it by yourself hard?

[deleted]

Having just started laser there is no way I'd have been able to do it on my face on my own. By the time she was done there I had tears from the pain, something I don't think has ever happened to me before.

[deleted]

Damn, sorry you went through that...

[deleted]

Well, I'm more prepared for it now. It didn't help my skin was a little raw from having just shaved that morning. I'm going to shave the previous day and hope it helps next time.

addstar1

I bought a topical anaesthetic that was recommended by the clinic to help keep it more manageable. Only cried the first session when I didn't have it.

SumerianThrowaway

Not really. It required a bit of a pain tolerance, but not a tremendous one. Just remember to wear lots of sunscreen afterwards and avoid sun exposure in general.

THEE_Person376

Indeed. Your skin is irritated after laser and the natural SPF is lost temporarily.

SumerianThrowaway

Also note, one hit won't obliterate that cycle all at once. Even professional lasering is a long process. Just do the once every four weeks and eventually it'll stop.

Tattieaxp

I've done at-home IPL and would recommend. The downside is the sheer number of sessions required to actually see some thinning.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah that does sound like the ideal scenario

[deleted]

Just know you can't use an epilator while getting laser. Once you are ready for laser you will need to let the hairs start growing back. Also, an issue you might run into is that when the hairs grow back they might be finer and not as dark, which will reduce the effectiveness of laser. And there are spots you 100% do not want to use the epilator on, including the face.

[deleted]

Do I let the hairs grow before or after the 1st laser session? (by myself with home IPL)

[deleted]

So, weather you use an IPL at home or get it done by a professional they work on the same principal. Basically it puts a ton of light into the hair to heat it up and damage the follicle. If the hair isn't there it wont do anything. When I was getting it done on Friday (first appointment) I was *extremely* aware when she was hitting an area that had hair and one that didn't. When she hit an area with no hair I didn't feel the laser at all, just the cool mist that came after.

[deleted]

I see, thx for the info! <3

uhaltforquestions

E

[deleted]

Can't do that yet unfortunately

[deleted]

Does E actually make your hair grow less if taken after it develops?

Melmannnn

I can confirm it does. I began E at 22 when my body hair had a lot of time to develop and was groing fast. And now after approximately one year it grow back slower and thinnier.

[deleted]

Ah, cool! I didn't know that before!

DeathPandaa

The only "fully permanent" hair removal is electrolysis, but laser hair removal and waxing are good temporary options if you can get them.

staykinky

You forgot about "opening the lid of the barbecue when it's really really hot"

[deleted]

Aren't laser hair and electrolysis the same thing?

red666111

No; laser hair removal is when they blast a small circular area to kill the hair follicles in that area. Electrolysis involves sticking a tiny needle into the pore of a single hair and zapping it with electricity to kill it. A lot of women do laser first, then follow up with electrolysis for stubborn hairs.

DeathPandaa

I know they're very similar, but slightly different? I think laser used light waves when electrolysis uses short wave radio? Could just be that I haven't done enough research.

v16anaheim

Laser hair removal uses red and infrared wavelengths of light. Electrolysis uses electricity applied with a needle

ThistleFaun

Wax, epilation and hair removal cream can last longer then shaving. Hair removal cream struggles with thicker hair though, so using either wax strips or getting your legs waxed by a beaution might be better for you. If not then you can try using an epilator that will pluck out the hairs. I hope this helps a little :)

FailbatZ

I often cry over a glass of wine while waxing tho

shouldworknotbehere

For me epilating does the trick. More clean than waxing and way less waste. It does grow back but it is supposed to happen slower and slower. Plus it is a one time payment over waxing wax and strips. However my sister doesn’t like it because it is longer uncomfortable than waxing. Sugaring is also an alternative to waxing. Basically the same but less painful

ERR0R_fox

What epilators do you recommend? Also tips?

[deleted]

If you're broke like me, get a Phillips Satinelle Essential

shouldworknotbehere

Tips as in Advice ? I use a Braun Silk-Epil 9 Flex. pretty neat with brushes for peeling and stuff. Don’t use it in your face tho. As for advice: The Braun Silk Epil 9 is waterproof so you can epilate while showering/in the bathtub which is very comfortable and less painful. Slowly move the epilator to catch more hair. Stretch the skin to prevent pain. Get aftershave cream. Use Peel/Scrub to prevent ingrown hair and for /smooth skin/. I think that covers most. The Silk Epil 9 also comes with a shaver tip so you can shorten your hair to about 3 mm or so to make epilating easier. But that is only interesting if you have like centimeter long hair like i think.

ERR0R_fox

Thank you so much! :3 💕

Maybe_Its_Sabrina

At home Lazer works wonders.. I Lazer once every five weeks and shave once every three weeks. Aside from that it made way less hair grow and those that still grow have become blonde/white

[deleted]

How have they become blond?

Maybe_Its_Sabrina

Damage to the pigment creating part of the hair sack, will never grow black hairs again

[deleted]

So they're see through basically?

Maybe_Its_Sabrina

White-ish/blonde you have to get real close to see them even when they grown a bit (started of with really thick black hair on both legs and thighs)

[deleted]

Do they still have the same thickness?

Maybe_Its_Sabrina

Not at all, they have become so thin even when they're stubbles they feel soft

Strogman

I have the same issue (pre-everything). The only thing that I find helps is reminding myself that cis women have body hair too. Now I just shave with an electric razor once a week (whole body takes like half an hour) and my legs and arms look like a cis woman's most of the time, which is to say, kinda hairy.

[deleted]

Electric razor? Are they effective?

Strogman

They'll never get you a clean, smooth shave, but short enough to look like a cis girl's arm and leg hair. You might want to use something better for the places that cis girls don't have hair like your face and stomach.

[deleted]

If it's not smooth then I don't want it

Unelith

> (whole body takes like half an hour) For me it took a whole day

[deleted]

there are thinning scissors for hair (i use them because my hair is crazy thick) but there could possibly be a version for body hair?

Jackgind

I am currently going through electrolysis it's a bit expensive and hurts like hell but it is a permanent solution if you are able to receive laser that is a viable solution as well but wanted to highlight electrolysis since it will work for everyone and isn't talked about as much

rd2ruin

At home IPL device, I recommend the Lescolton T009. I did it for over a year and now shave my legs about once every few weeks, my arms every couple months and chest maybe once every couple weeks. TBH I let all those times extend further in the winter and the hair that grows in is thin and wispy. FWIW I'm of eastern European descent so I'm natively moderately hairy. It's a long process but well worth it and relatively painless. Doesn't work on blond, red or grey hair, tho and not all that particularly effective on facial hair (since the roots are deeper).

Wolf-Majestic

Afab here, just so you know, it's totally normal that body hair grow back fast. For me, they're already back on the next day... It's super annoying and I hate it, but it's normal T_T In my experience, waxing/epilating give the feeling hair grow back thinnier over the time. Might just be just that though. Hang on sister... Over the time we learn to better live with hair annoyance...

LAZER HAIR REMOVAL

OhIGotLumbago

Hair removal cream works really good for me. Smooth, soft skin ☺️

[deleted]

Does it last long?

LordBaneThePlayer

About 1 to three weeks, according to Wikipedia. Basically how it works, is by dissovling the keratine in your hairs, turning them into a gel that's then scraped off. let the cream do its work for 3 minutes , but no longer than 6 (set a tier). Veet sells some, and No Hair Crew does too. Keep in mind that hair removal cream and intimate hair removal cream are two very different things. Hair removal is for body, and intimate for..well intimate areas. One I found was Veet's Spray Body Hair Removal Cream, 150 ml. There's also In-Shower Hair Removal Cream for Normal Skin 150 ml, and Veet Silky Fresh™ Spray on Hair Removal Cream Sensitive Skin Legs & Body 150 ml. Normal skin for..normal skin, and if you have more sensitive skin, Sensitive skin. I think the only difference is that the Sensitive Skin contains Aloe Vera. Edit: There's also non-spray hair removal creams, of course, but I couldn't find one from Veet, and I looked as hard as I could. (Their website really needs a search function)

OhIGotLumbago

Definitely multiple weeks, about a month or so

v16anaheim

I'm getting electrolysis. Just FYI if you wax or tweeze a lot, it can distort the hair follicle and make future electrolysis more difficult

[deleted]

Good to know

Chansdamans

Nair can work for about three weeks at a time ive heard

[deleted]

Is that the liquid stuff that basically burns your hair and skin?

Chansdamans

It can burn if you have really sensitive skin but i would suggest looking it up and i think its either a lotion or a gel

FancySkunk

Yup. It's recommended to do a small test area to make sure you won't have a burn reaction, but for many it works well as long as you follow instructions. There's also magic shave powder which is more geared for the face (and is a men's product which is good if you need to be stealth).

[deleted]

Magic shave powder?

FancySkunk

It's a powder that you mix with a bit of water and then acts as a hair removal cream. I personally haven't tried it yet, but I have some on order. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0048ZIFA0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

AutumnRedAndBlack

I truly feel this. I use a a safety razor and hair removal cream at times. I really want to do laser removal. Love and solidarity ❤️🖤

[deleted]

While waxing and epilating are good options and the more times you've done it, the less your hair grows back, I know some people with light skin bleach their body hair. It doesn't make it thinner or anything, but it hurts way less than waxing or epilating and it makes it look much thinner than dark hair on light skin. So if you're light skinned and don't already have light body hair, you could give that a try.

[deleted]

Light skin as in white or?

[deleted]

Yeah. I would say white to olive skin toned would work. My brother and I have olive skin and he has blonde arm hair and it's not very visible.

FillyCheeseSteak20

Have you tried epilating? Good alternative to waxing, makes me smooth for 2 whole weeks afterwards. Just slightly uncomfortable, but not as bad as waxing imho.

PepperMintyPokemon

My mom taught me this trick. It takes a while but its complely painless and even gets u outside more if ur a homebofy like me. Basicly get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. Its that dark bottle in the pharmacy for like cuts. Sprits or rub a bit on ur hair and just sun bathe for like 15 min till dry. Then just go in and wipe clean with a wet paper towel or shower. Basicly it slowly bleaches the hair and weakins the folical without having to use harsh chemicals. They only downside is that it takes a long time. I can say it reall dose work. I have super dark and thick hair and after like a week it was noticably lighter colored Please remember to be careful if u have sensitive skin! Its a very safe and common antiseptic but always try in small patches first just in case!

[deleted]

Does it weaken and remove the skin or just lighten it?

PepperMintyPokemon

No just the hair

Waxing is a cost effective way to slow it down. Getting it lasered slows it down massively

adrxnaline_bulletz

Lots of girls just bleach their body hair instead of shaving, thins the hair and also it removes the need of constant shaving :]]

[deleted]

Is that safe?

adrxnaline_bulletz

I have no idea from experience, i’ve just seen a few youtube videos on it. You could try a small patch to test it out, but yeah if you do attempt it use the weakest hair bleach possible. It seems safe for skin and I don’t see any issue in the ingredients :] [here’s a tutorial i found](https://youtu.be/hHF3VAM5XJk)

[deleted]

epilate that shit but be careful so you don't spend eternity picking out curled ingrowns

[deleted]

Wait I thought that only happened if you shave

[deleted]

it does for both, when epilating go with the grain your hair is growing

TheRealBluefire1411

Same here ;-;

jojoglowe

Hair tell is a great resource. I had a onetouch ultra ($20) and got professional balet needles and did my own electrolysis on half my face. I still did laser but the side I did my own is clean, whereas the other side still gets stuff cropping up every 5 or so years, but hitting it back again with laser helps. If I had someone to do my other side with the one touch, I'd gladly pay them the money that is now going to the laser clinic. Best wishes! https://hairtell.com/forum/t/one-touch-electrolysis/39160

woronwolk

Not necessarily the best option out there, but if you're pre-hrt and have some thinning on your scalp, you can probably get a dutasteride prescription. Not only it prevents (and to some extent reverses) androgenic alopecia, it also makes your body hair thinner. Just make sure to consult your doctor and get familiar with the potential side effects Just make sure to not to take oral minoxidil as well (topical minoxidil + microneedling is totally fine tho), because it has a side effect of increasing the amount of body hair, potentially turning you into Chewbacca

Shoe_Eater_

you could use hair removal cream (i used nair), in my experience it lasted about 2 weeks and when it grew bcak it was slow and pretty thin so you can just remove it again, plus its really easy to use all you need to do is apply it to your legs wait about 3 minutes then wipe it off with a warm and damp washrag, hope this helps! :)

drewmanchuV

i found an at home laser hair removerer for less than 300$ if you have the money and patience (it takes like 12 weeks for permanence) it’s a pretty good idea, i haven’t gotten mine yet due to a whole bunch of bs but the company is pretty confident about it working

[deleted]

What's it called?

drewmanchuV

rosa care is the company, i think it’s the only thing they sell

[deleted]

Are they trustable?

drewmanchuV

has a 90day return window, i don’t have mine yet bc of my own fault and a number of other stupid people, but the company themselves made no mistakes

AliceCarole

I use an IPL home device, it works great on my body. Although I have dark hair and pale skin, which is best combination for hair removal. If you have similar hair and skin, I advise you to get one or look information about it.

Rock_Bottom69

If you'd like to try waxing (which removes the root of the hair I beleive and stops it from growing back from 4-6 weeks), there's a simple homemade type you can cook up pretty easily. I found this video *incredibly* helpful: https://youtu.be/2SdBEMvqovs

Yngvildr

My SO did home laser and it worked like a charm. Even today as he was kinda forced to stop for about six months now because the thing is a bit old now and malfunctioning at time, and we also moved house in my last trimestre of pregnancy into a bit of a fixer upper around September, still his legs are pretty hairless. There's a big band or sparse long hairs around his calf and like a few long hairs on his thighs. Wouldn't recommend at home laser if you have dark skin though. We tried to find a patch on my own skin where the machine would trigger (inside the thigh pretty high, def no sun shining there) and it burned like a mofo for an entire fucking day, so check with a pro. I heard it's the same for blondes.

Ninja_In_Shaddows

Epilate, or wax. Hormones also reduce body hair from around 6 months onwards.

BabyMePls

If you wax or epilate it‘ll grow back slower because the roots have to regrow that way

jester32

Don’t take this as douchey, but hrt pretty much wipes it out. At least above the waist

YouKnowWynn

Sadly after a year on HRT I'm still regrowing body hair and facial hair at the same rate. It typically slows down, but I wouldn't sell it as a fix-all in these cases.

jester32

sorry to hear that, just reproting what happened to me

YouKnowWynn

You're good, I'm a little salty but not with you

[deleted]

What about below?

jester32

Like no change to pubes but legs gets the same type of peach fuzz that I get on my chest and stomach . Maybe a bit more dense but not comparable to pre

[deleted]

How do pubes not lighten?

UniverseIsAHologram

There's always electrolysis and laser hair removal, but it's expensive, painful, and can take quite some time.

[deleted]

I think it's worth it

UniverseIsAHologram

The darker the hair the quicker it’ll take. It definitely helps. My neck hair is pretty much all gone and I won’t have to worry about it for like, another forty years. Though some areas like my brows, there’s only so much they can do. My brows I can’t really get perfect, but they’re a lot better and I no longer have hairs in between my brows that made it look like I had a mini-unibrow.

Karlaha2879

Well, the best bet would probably be laser. although it might take a while depending on hair/skin colour, plus it can be very expensive.

sam77889

You can look into at home ipl if you have light skin and dark hair

realtoasterlightning

Epilators and IPLs may help

Background_Jacket273

hrt ofc and I'm looking into doing laser at home right now

Deus0123

What you do is you buy an epliator, sit through the pain of ripping your hair out and that's enough for like 4 weeks and counting

Itsyasminex

Buy a braun ipl machine, costs around £300

GerFubDhuw

I keep cutting my legs. They feel fine then suddenly...

IndividualDog1995

Waxing

yeets_the_chicken

Shave during the full moon, it stays away a bit longer that way

[deleted]

Lol

Michellesis

You can induce alopecia with a cream. You have to use the cream for a couple of months.

Lt_Dan_570

BLEACH IT (or maybe switch bodies w me? I have great boobs n I got no use for them lol)

Quaelgeist333

I don't know if this helps but I have lots of body hair and am afab and on no t

ButteredZombie

Regular waxing will make the hair grow back slower and thinner over time. Can also look into laser hair removal (electrolysis) but it is expensive af.

FloofViking

I used to use Veet, can't be used on the face I don't think but worked well for underarms and legs. Instead of waxing or shaving it dissolves the hair root and used to give me a very smooth effect with minimal ingrown hairs. This is one moment when my life pretransition is the useful part of my transmasc experience haha

BiggerestPpInTheWest

My sister had the idea to bleach her neck hair so it's less obvious once. I don't know if that can help you somehow.

The_Spider-Rose

i’m afab and i have to shave and wax a lot because my hair grows really quick too, ik that doesn’t stop your dysphoria but i hope it helps comfort you

Kyle_DDL

When I consider myself as a woman, I think the wax did a pretty good job, the one you melt and don't need paper. But with was painful! But if you are ready with that, with time your hair will less grow up (Well If my mother tells the truth). And if you can't get rid of it, you have the laser. And a quick reminder: That doesn't make less who you are because of your hair body! I can understand if that gives you dysphoria, I have a DD and I can get rid of it with a binder, and transtape only hurt me because of my sensitive skin. I try to live with the fact that I have to wait for the mastectomy. I understand sometimes you gonna watch yourself and feel dysphoria but at least you have tried and you are still a beautiful queen!/sorry if that feels weird I just try to be nice and make you happy/ Stay safe, stay strong and stay truth with yourself^^

1whoa-man

Lazer is the best option. 👌

Schrodinger_cube

Waxing can be an option but also epilating and home based IPL Intense Pulse Light device. Or go the out of home route with Lazer and electrolysis... Anyway its a little painful and fairly expensive.

Ok-Farm6827

I’m with you sister. I’ve found that hair cream like Nair gives me smooth results for longer. It usually takes almost a week for mine to start growing back but I also have very dark, coarse, thick hair so that may be more my experience

mi_lena00

all of those comments are really nice, and it's what you should do, but for me, Imma just commit die.

StuffedSomething

Laser and Electrolysis. Both are expensive and a bit of a long process, but get results. Just keep in mind Laser is mostly meant for darker colored hair, and Electrolysis involves plucking hairs out more or less 1 by 1, so it'll take longer but is good on lighter colored hair.

somedudeonthis

Oestrogen, depilatory cream, waxing,lasers

Educational_Pin_6924

For legs epilation is good and environmentally friendly

AntiFrekeGaming

Laser. 1000%

immaryy

It's not the most affordable option but an ipl machine will help. I bought one under 100€ and it worked pretty well (I started hrt at the same time so both things helped with that). Maybe something to look into. ☺️ PS: Queens with body hair are gorgeous anyway. I do understand the dysphoria tho :(

FSMellon

Three letters: I-P-L

Aluna_128

It's a little late, but I am AFAB and my body hair also grows really fast. I know that it probably won't help but women don't need to be clean shaven. I hope you got some good advice from the other comments.
