The good news is you can always dye your hair the colour you want - hair is not immutable, and neither is the body! … the bad news is it costs money :(

babywithagun_

Noooooooooo!

Iceboy10

And dying hair is temporary, you will need to reapply it from time to time.

On the plus side, it's pretty easy. I've used Overtone before, it holds for like 3-4 weeks before it starts to fade.

Happy cake day!

Prior_Fall1063

Another comment in this chain did mention that fashion design and hair stylist schools offer free services sometimes - so the downside I mentioned might not be that bad!

SwirlyObscenity

My gf and I do our hair at home, with her also going to hairdresser sometimes bc hers is long and that's harder to upkeep by ourselves. But bleaching, dying, buzzing (side/ undercuts are great) and even minor cuts are all doable at home!

Panda_Pounce

Blond should leave you the most options at least, it's easy to dye light hair darker, not so much the other way. Or so I've been told, I'll have to test it out in like a year when I have enough hair to be worth dying and hopefully enough money to dye it lol

Iceboy10

For some reason this reminded me of: "I don't have money" "I wasted it all on h\*\*\*\*\* games for christmas" (idk if I needed to censor that, but I did so anyways)

Prior_Fall1063

Some days that’s a mood - I once spent like $500 on TTRPGs in a single day, and as for h-games, when the steam sales go on…

h-hockey! sure...

LenisThanatos

Not always! Some fashion design and hair stylist schools offer fully free or heavily reduced cost services. The ones doing it will be students overseen by a TA or Teacher. So it will definitely take almost twice as long as a normal cut or hair dye or whatever you want, and it might not turn out exactly the way you want but it’s a really good option! Fashion Design schools are also notoriously queer so you have pretty good odds of getting someone who is queer friendly or even queer themselves. If you happen to be in BC Canada, Blanche Macdonald does this and they are pretty good! My fiancé and our friend go there for most hair services now and haven’t really been disappointed yet. I also will go once my stupid curly hair grows out long enough that I can stand to see any cut off for styling.

Prior_Fall1063

Ooh~ I’ll have to look for that in my own city! Or, as for your suggestion of Blanche Macdonald in BC… I *do* want to visit Celeste mountain some day… for cis reasons, of course! So maybe could do two in one?

LenisThanatos

Just make sure you bring a book or some music! It can take quite a while but all those savings can definitely be worth it! And Celeste Mountain? Is that in BC???

Prior_Fall1063

Vancouver Island, British Columbia! Yes!

PhilharmonicPrivate

I once sat in a chair for ~4.5 hours while a dude taught every person there how to do a side fade (I hated it so much)

The_Chaos_Pope

>the bad news is it costs money :( My wallet is unhappy about it but I like being blonde :(

Bacon260998_

Hold on hair can change color based on estrogen????

TFMPowerGuy

Gene expression is such a crazy mess from what I can tell. In essence, one set of genes can mean two or more different things based on context (hormones). This is precisely what decides whether your gonads become testes or ovaries - they're the same organ, just expressing itself based on the hormone that lead your development in womb. So, yeah. It's very possible that a person's genes say 'if testosterone, less hair melanin, if estrogen, more hair melanin'.

Miramusa

My hair turned from jet black to a really dark brown. It's only noticeable in specific lighting but it undeniably got lighter in color. My wife actually noticed it before I did! I don't really understand it but I do also have weird hair genes. I'm southeast Asian and I found an orange hair growing out of head once. Genes and hair are wild lol

IAmRootNotUser

omg same I saw a red hair in my head when I was 7 not on HRT yet, but my hair turns slightly orange in the sunlight, hopefully it'll get even lighter :3

KindaFreeXP

I've got some copper in my hair pre-HRT, hoping that translates into more when I'm finally able to start :3

Kelrisaith

Among other things yes, eye colour is another one, it tends to lighten on feminizing HRT.

Nasuno112

Mine got a bit lighter. Several people pointed it out well before I noticed.

AvaThroughFire

IZ ME HAI :3 :3 :3

babywithagun_

OMG HAIIII :3333

Leafbox_

To quote Nick from Left 4 Dead 2: Tits.

Kyiokyu

This is me, except the boob part So... Uh...

babywithagun_

So from what I’ve gathered, it usually only makes your hair lighter and mine is already like a platinum blonde so, this can only mean one thing… I WILL TURN INTO THE SUN! or daughter… I guess lol

Soggy-Mode8225

I’m the only blonde of my family but it’s more of a dirty blonde now so it actually might return to its original brightness

homucifer666

Here's to hoping!

_ginger_Snaps

Yoooo it’s my girlfriend

BeanBagSize

It's fun to think about but it's not guaranteed. Afab, and the only woman in my close family relations smaller than a large d cup, and a pancake could make me envious 🤣 good luck though, may the family boobs grow in for you

Trans_Rose1

Wait, my hair can change from blonde because of estrogen 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

The_Chaos_Pope

Sex hormones influence melanin production, testosterone moreso than estrogen so it's more likely to lighten than darken if you're trans fem. I got tired of waiting for hormones to do the work so I paid a professional to strip out all the brown and put blonde back into it. Downside is I have to keep going back to get roots done.

CBD_Hound

Hmm… AMAB here, and my platinum blonde hair from childhood became dark blonde/light brown at puberty. I wonder if that’s why…

The_Chaos_Pope

Likely is the case. My hair was a light blond until I was in my 20's when it started to get darker.

Trans_Rose1

Yay, I get to have even more blonde hair, thanks for telling me

nyatalyn

i have curly dark brown hair but most of the women in my family have straight blonde hair so i'm not sure how i feel about this information on one hand being blonde would be fine since it'll be easier to dye without bleach but on the other hand i don't wanna lose my waves

Alace42

Wait estrogen can change your hair colour?

Marily_Rhine

Sometimes, and to some degree, yes. Estrogen and testosterone both promote melanin production, but testosterone does so more strongly. This is why children's' hair usually darkens as an adult, regardless of sex, but more so overall for AMAB populations. So, switching to estrogen can have a tendency to slightly lighten your hair and skin. It also makes your skin more translucent, allowing more subsurface scattering. This imparts a slight "glow" to the skin, which contributes to the apparent lightening, as well as making the skin look softer. (Of course, it makes skin _actually_ softer, too, due to thinning of the skin and a thicker subcutaneous fat layer)

Alace42

Wow

lily_was_taken

theres a chance hrt will make me a lighter shade of blonde wich i think is neat

AlisesAlt

Intresting note, I looked into this after someone else mentioning it a while back and usually hair o ly lightens on E, not darkens, so good(or bad) news, your hair will still be blonde, just platinum blonde or golden blonde, depending on how dark it is now, if it changes at all.

babywithagun_

Bro my hair is already platinum blonde, is it gonna start fucking reflecting /j

OtakuMage

My hair went from dirt brown to a much softer and more detailed medium brown and haven't caught up to my sister yet.

thesilliestKassie

e can change hair color?

closetBoi04

For me it's a roll of the dice, I either get J cups like my younger sister or B/C like my older sister. Not sure which I'd prefer honestly, G is quite inconvenient

LordPenvelton

My aunts and mom are stacked too, and I'm growing absolutely nothing on the chest department. And then, my hair randomly got curly.🤨

Demorodan

I kinda want to see this in the next Ava video

babywithagun_

That’s the goal

Nebula_Wolf7

Fun fact: hair colour can change, but it usually happens in adolescence For example, I used to be blonde, but it gradually went brown as I got older, and stopped around age 16, my father also has this trait, though his hair is beginning to grey now

Saltymeetloaf

Oh E can change hair color? Might explain me going from a Dirty blond to a slight strawberry blond
