A take on a very traditional tattoo - I’m sure you can find flash like this in any traditional shop, yeah. Not sure id use blue in the clouds and wave caps, but it a good piece.
looks more like color realism if you ask me, traditional flash designs are pretty similar but usually if you see a classic design like an eagle, panther, cock, balls or rose then those are probably traditional but this still looks so sick!
As a sailor, the fully rigged ship traditionally represents that one had sailed around Cape Horn, whereas the Swallows are earned for every 5k nautical miles traveled (also good luck because they are mainly found near land)
It's more neo-traditional with the blue in there, and the lines, while equal in thickness, are a little thinner than what you'd *generally* see in amtrad.
Thats a great tattoo! I love the rope ladder the artist snuck in the back of the ship...super cool touch! And those yellow and orange highlights behind the clouds too. Really nice!
Such a weird distinction people make. Trad artists who created these designs were hungry for innovations in tattooing. Purist color pallet bullshit is so corny.
this is the most classic traditional design
Colours might not be the most traditional though
Yeah I think the traditional colors were black, brown, red, yellow, and green. The blue and teal look great though! Awesome piece!!
Sailor Jerry was a big part of bringing blue, purple, teal and everlasting blue-green into the mix
A pioneer
You know damn well it is Ben
god damn it ben
Classic Ben move
Yes but I think the color palette is more than true American traditional would have.
Blue and brown are like one step above stoplight
this is definitely trad imo, but the color pallet is more neo trad. still dope tho
Came here to say this
Same thing. Style yes, colors are expanded than the strict rules for American traditional. I think there is also not enough skin breaks

Yes very traditional
Everybody missin the sarcasm lmao
Not only is it traditional, it’s fucking beautiful and extremely well done. Would love to have this on me and love the placement!
To everyone replying in earnest to an established trad artist asking if this piece is traditional: r/woosh
do u want a cookie
I’d love one, thanks :)
Very traditional design but the colors (blue and turquoise) are not traditional. I would still consider this very much traditional

Color realism if anything
Neo trad due to the colors
It's more neo-traditional with the blue in there, and the lines, while equal in thickness, are a little thinner than what you'd *generally* see in amtrad.
Too many colors. More neo trad but still cool
Why you playing with us hahaha

I was mad for a sec!
Well it ain't grey wash.
What is with everyone in this sub forgetting what traditional tattoos are all of a sudden?
This is the picture next to traditional in the dictionary
Seeing as it’s one of the most traditional designs I’m gonna go with … probably?
Sho nuf.
Line work is on point, consistent and clean. That’s a sick piece
textbook trad!
Colour not so much but the design definitely
Does a bear shit in the woods, my friend?
The definition of it
Extremely!
Yes. That is a traditional tattoo.

100 percent yes but as others have said there are some colors that are not typically
It is art work
