Thank you for your submission! This is just a quick reminder to all members here: **Original content is always better!** Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does **not** mean you found it "in the wild". The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/tragedeigh) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Empty_Dance_3148

Is this our first Trajengard?

Serious_Telephone_28

At least it's not Jotungard or Assheim, lol, or Lokithor, or Thorodin, or Helathor... I can go on and on 😂😂😂 Lokifrostodinthor

Averelle

You leave my children's names outta your mouth! *clutches pearls* Why, little Lokifrostodinthor has been having a hard enough time in kindergarten, what with all those hand cramps from learning to write his name in the languages of men. That alone is difficult enough for a ficticious 5 year old to endure without strangers mocking his precious name on the internet, thank you!!!

Serious_Telephone_28

😂😂😂👍

blurtlebaby

Does anyone give a Frigg?

Doge-Ghost

>Assheim Thank you, I needed a name for my town in Farthest Frontier

TigerChow

Is he taking the Hobbits to Trajengard?

thesecretbarn

Hobbeights

MintEggBro

Yes it is. And I am a LOTR fan.

the_ballmer_peak

It’s actually a tragedy AND a tragedeigh. Take a terrible name for a child and deliberately misspell it. Our daily double.

C_beside_the_seaside

Thee-oh Din, it's not even going to be pronounced right :(

Immediate_Mud_2858

Seconded!

GoBuffaloes

And my Axe!

Afin12

Beat me to it

the_jerkening

This made me laugh so hard my kid jumped. Needed this today.

Teladian

So terrible, I kean thats as baf as Plaxico Burress. Yeah, thats a real persons name. He played in the NFL. Theodin, tame by comparison.

the_ballmer_peak

I remember Plaxico Burress. From back when I actually watched the NFL. Receiver for the Giants, I think. But you could have gone with D’Brickashaw Ferguson

FloatLikeABull

Yes, he played for the giants and also shot himself in the leg.

the_ballmer_peak

That’s right! I forgot about that! He went to a club with a gun tucked into sweat pants or something stupid like that

barrelageme

Haha Clinton-Dix and Koolaid McKinstry are current players.

the_ballmer_peak

I’m shocked that no one has referenced the Key & Peele football names skit yet

Lankydick

I halfway thought that’s what we were doing

the_ballmer_peak

[Construction Noises]

VyvanseLanky_Ad5221

Is his middle name Potaytow?

denine

So my son's name is Tate, just Tate. But my husband and I often scheme that once he's 5 or 6 we are going to tell him Tate is short for Potato.... And you just gave us the story of why.  Mash em. Boil em. Stick em in a stew. This prank is years in the making.

joumidovich

RemindMe! 5 years

Little_Guarantee_693

Agreed, if you’re going to give your kid a nerd name do that and just commit to it.

StrongTxWoman

Yes, it is so obvious. I am saddINed.

FastidiousFartBox

A portmanteau of ThĂ©oden King and Odin the Allfather? IDK man, it’s like a whole new category. It’s better than combining Glorfindel and Hel into Glorfindhel I guess. The people who are big enough into LOTR to think ThĂ©oden is a cool name, will think Theodin is weird because of the spelling. Everyone else will just think it’s weird.

August_T_Marble

Thanks. My middle name is Thoromir now.

Easy-Concentrate2636

Frobo.

Significant-One3854

Sanwise

thishenryjames

Gam Bombadilf

madhaus

Arwadriel

Squeak_Stormborn

Grimli

Easy-Concentrate2636

Gimolas. Legli.

pipian

Gimleigh

Squeak_Stormborn

J1mXleigh pronounced Gimli

littlemissbagel

Actually a cool name... for a dog.

McBird-255

Bombadilf made me laugh so hard 😂 That is SO how I’m going to refer to Aragorn from now on. Woof.

minecraftingsarah

This one made me laugh so hard I woke my cat up 😭

Livewire5150

This just made me laugh out loud in the middle of the street, thanks!

Averelle

Gandorf

Hullabaloobasaur

Ganondorf

hamprecht

Better call Frobo

Perfect_Papaya_3010

Frejfro

betteimages

The name already was a combination! He was a professor of Mythology and used a shit ton of Nordic and old Germanic myths as his sandbox. Gandalf the Grey already practically matches the description of the oldest of Odin's incarnations when he's ancient and wandering the forest half blinded and led by his ravens. There is also an Odin that is essentially a King. Yes, The Odin King. I think the great Mythology Professor was fully aware of the weight of the names he used in his series considering all the dwarf names from the Poetic Edda that he lifted wholecloth

pijinglish

At least my son, Glorihöl, won't get made fun of.

Used2BLurker

"Who we all know is the king of Asgard" You give general population waaaaay too much credit

NelsonMcBottom

Yeah WTF

arealcabbage

To someone not familiar it sounds like you're saying your son is The King Of Ass Guard

toomanymatts_

Only saving grace is at least he gets to go by Theo and pretend you never did that to him

Glum-Sugar-8241

Goes by Odin instead lol

TSAOutreachTeam

“I deliberately misspelled the name because I thought it looked better this way.” I mean. It’s not the worst tragedeigh today.

zzSolace

But it *is* one.

TSAOutreachTeam

I didn’t want to say it so bluntly.

zzSolace

Happy to help đŸ’ƒđŸ»

TSAOutreachTeam

You’re doing the lords work.

Easy-Concentrate2636

The Lord of the Rings’ work.

lawlocost

I thought that was Jay Are Argh Tolkeen. I deliberately misspelled it cuz I thought it looked better.

brownieson

Brilliant

RojerLockless

That still only counts as one!

pacamanca

I love you

lametheory

I feel anytime you have to explain it, it's a tragedeigh.

heeltoelemon

It’s bad.

Tinsel-Fop

>Is my son's name a tragedeigh? Is it? Well let's see. How about taking a look at the description for this subreddit? "A given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up...." It seems the name is definitive for tragedeigh.

Pixelated_Roses

CHILDREN ARE NOT BILLBOARDS FOR YOUR FANDOMS.

Sesudesu

I remember getting shit from my nerdier friends for naming my kids normal stuff
like, they will have this name their whole life, and they aren’t my pet. Of course I named them normal names.

TigerChow

I know two kids named after their parents' D&D characters, those poor thinga.

alwaystakeabanana

Okay, if the names were not that crazy and the parents like, fell in love playing D&D together this would be cute as hell, but considering where we are I'm assuming they were terrible. Care to share?

TigerChow

They're not great. The one's not *too*, terrible, the other is pretty cringey. The parents are garbage humans and utterly impossible to think of in a remotely positive way, unfortunately making it impossible to view in it the nice light you suggested. The POS "father" is currently in prison for doing just about the worst thing you can think of to two of his daughters. Regularly, over the course of 3 years. They were 8 and 11 when it began. Still fucks me up to think of it. Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but for the sake of the kids' privacy and given how unique their names are, I feel like I can't share them. Those poor kids were truly dealt a horrible hand. They're safe and away from him now. The mother's not great, but she's not pure evil like the POS.

Kytalie

Most of my pets are nerdy names from different sources. The vet office has trouble with the majority of them sometimes, but they don't go to the vet often. A human interacts with far more people every single day. Give kids the nerdier names as a nickname or something, but AFTER the kid is old enough to say of they like that fandom or not.

OneFish2Fish3

100% agreed! Isn’t there an actor named “Strider” out there somewhere? I saw a blog where someone else named their son Jayne. It’s just cringe to me. Yeah I name my cats after movies I like (my boy Jack-Jack is sitting on my lap right now, and if I ever get an orange boy I’m naming him Jonesy
my family has a whole list of potential future kitty names, including Ruprecht), but that’s different. JJ doesn’t get mocked by the other cats all his life or have trouble applying for jobs AFAIK.

Averelle

Little do you know... If you check his bed, you'll find this slightly tear-stained letter: Dear Jack-Jack, We regret to inform you that we cannot offer you employment, at this time, as your name is in direct violation with our policies. If you can convince your human to choose a name that fits within our regulations, please, do reach out, as we were quite impressed with your teaching qualifications. Signed, The School of Anti-Double Redundancy

Affectionatekickcbt

So good.

brownieson

Absolutely. Use your creative names for your pets, it’s great. The poor kids have to live with these names forever and explain it to people, if they are not ridiculed first.

Nocturne2319

You mean Jayne? The man they call Jayne?

Lowbrow_Lowlife

he's the hero of Canton!

TallForADwarf

Jayne!?! Jayne Cobb?! Yes Jayne Cobb!

barrelageme

We’d call our son Ruprecht when he acted like a complete moron in his younger days. Great name for a cat.

tivofanatico

Do you know how many girls are named after soap characters? It’s a big chunk.

Nocturne2319

Read soap as soup and was mildly confused, but only mildly.

pijinglish

Campbell! Progressa! Get over here!

Babyy_Bluee

And there's so many normal options even if you want to choose something related to what you like. My son's name comes from a song by my favorite band. It's still the most normal name ever and no one would know if I didn't tell them. (Its a common name like James)

the_jerkening

My son’s name comes from a favorite book character. It’s also just a regular human name.

waffelman1

I loved all the parents naming their kids Danerys or whatever for GoT around seasons 2-6. And then while their little princess is 2 years old her namesake genocides a city. Dumb as hell to do this

ElectraUnderTheSea

“I am sorry but the “The Odin” thing is quite silly. Plus what the heck does Odin have to do with LOTR? It makes no sense whatsoever

Perfect_Papaya_3010

Storywise nothing, but Tolkien took a lot of inspiration from Nordic mythology so they are not THAT far-fetched. I think Gandalf's appearance is supposed to be Oden as an old man

P4pkin

the name Gandalf itself comes from the Poetic edda, and is listed as one of the names of the first dwarves. The other names listed were for instance Durin of Thorin if I remember correctly, generally a lot of shit in Tolkien's books is inspired or just taken from old nordic scripts

That_Xenomorph_Guy

Theoden is a cringe name for a kid either spelling tbh, but at least he has the very normal name option of Theo. Really not that bad in a practical sense.

watadoo

But everyone will just call him, Theo, which is a perfectly nice normal name

roblewk

So just name him Theo.

pineconeminecone

That’s my stance when prospective parents are thinking of weird names. “Oh we’ll name him Jazxsin but just call him Jack!” Name him Jack.

mab0roshi

My cousin Theophilus goes by The (like 'three' without the 'R'). Kid could do that.

madhaus

And don’t forget that [Tiffany came from Theophanie](https://youtu.be/9LMr5XTgeyI?si=E2cVXTQU2HYEk1p5).

mab0roshi

Thanks for reminding me 🙃

rpgnoob17

What if I say 90% of the names in fantasy novels are tragedeigh?

madhaus

Stares in Daenerys Targaryen

pacamanca

My god, that’s the tragedeighest to rule them all, and I’m Brazilian so I’ve seen things you guys can only imagine

_petrichora_

RIP to all the kids named Daenerys (esp if they picked that name before the show ended)

9noobergoober6

RIP to the kids named Khaleesi

TigerChow

This one drives me nuts.

Kytalie

I would automatically lose a bit of respect for the parents with it. They are a big enough fan to name their kid after a character in it, but not a big enough fan o py attention to it

thermomax

Surely it's worse if they picked the name after it ended?

_petrichora_

Hahah true but I just think of the parents who thought she was a good role model only for her to turn into a genocidal maniac 💀

Far-Collection7085

It sure is. Poor kid.

pizzathym3

Jfc get a tattoo or something if you love the character so much, don’t name your child after it

rojita369

You deliberately misspelled it. It’s a tragedeigh. Tbh, even if you’d spelled it correctly, it’s a tragedy. Children aren’t billboards for your fandoms.

Sleepwokesleepwoke

Yes

McBird-255

I am a fan of Star Trek. I named my CAT Sisko after Captain Benjamin Sisko of Deep Space 9. My *cat*.

Accomplished-Ruin742

My cat is named Kira. Her full name is Kira Nerys.

13sailors

yes. it's a tragedy/tragedeigh either spelling

Curiousr_n_Curiouser

Tragidy looks better.

madhaus

It’s also a travisseteigh

melodicatrident

Yes - you should have actually done some learning on Odin as a god 💀💀💀💀

thebearofwisdom

I actually hope he didn’t and this was a big mistake because it’s almost like calling your kid Zeus. But then I do have a cousin called Thor, so there’s that

Chillaxerate

I know a few Thors, it’s a real name.

thebearofwisdom

Oh I know it is, but the fact of the matter is, this poor child was called Thor as a joke by his father, who spent the entire labour of this child in the pub getting trashed. My cousin stormed in, child in arms, and yelled “so what the fuck did you want to name your child exactly?” He laughed uncontrollably as drunks often do, and shouted “THOR”. She knew he was joking. She also was like oh ok then BET. She went and registered the baby as Thor. This kid
couldn’t be the more opposite of the vision of Thor. It’s a tragedeigh to me because it’s the worst name for him. He’s gotten people asking “what, like defrost?” Grown adults holding back laughter.. man I feel for him. I just realised he’s like 25 now, and I feel really fucking old.

JonasHalle

"What, like defrost?" is the funniest thing I've read in a while.

stanknasty706

Stupid.

yontev

If you have to ask here, I think you know the answer already (yes)

quinnrem

Yes. I think any person named after their parents’ fandom is a little tragique. Middle name, sure. A “normal” name isn’t bad either (ie, Luke ). But kids will become adults and it’s sad when they have to go through life as an Anakin or Katniss or Hermione or Thorin because their parents were fans of media that came out before they were born. Theodin is a tragedeigh, sorry OP.

TechTech14

Hermione was a normal name before HP.

MorningByMorning51

So was Hedwig (in certain cultures).

pandakatie

If it helps answer your question OP I had to double check the sub to see if I was in the Name Nerds Circlejerk category again

Inevitable_Wolf5866

Is your second named Theloki? đŸ€Ł yes, it is a tragedeigh.

Lulusgirl

He's adopted.

DevlishAdvocate

Yes, just as much as making him "Gollim" or "Frodough" would've been.

VeryStickyPastry

Yes.

FancyErection

It’s a defining case

pixxllx

aw jeeeeeeez

Aldilae

"The Odin" makes it so much worse imo, it feels like a really egocentric name to give. Definitely a tragedeigh. And kids shouldn't be named after a fandom, what if your son hates LOTR?

RideWithMeTomorrow

It’s a tragedeigh and a shitpost!

panatale1

The Odin, The!

pmperk19

the misspelling isnt the part id be commenting on

StrayC47

This might be the worst this week. Poor Theo.

AussieFIdoc

A tragedy and a tragedeigh. Why
. Why would you do this to them??

miss_chapstick

Deliberately misspelling a name because you think it ‘looks better’ is essentially the definition of tragedeigh.

Single_Vacation427

yeah

Puzzleheaded-Rip-824

Personally I would've went with Gokue

CarelessSalamander51

I'm hoping this is rage bate. If not, the answer is YES

Random-Cpl

It’s a bigger tragedeigh than what happened at Helm’s Deep, but at least he can go by Theo when he’s older.

judgeholden72

I went to school with a child whose Star Wars fan Dad named him a misspelled Obi. It didn't make his life easier. You should learn from that mistake.

Safford1958

Why didn't you just stick with Odin?

BearBearJarJar

Read up on Odin lol. Not a great guy to name your child after.

Safford1958

I'm aware of Odin, but instead this poor child gets a fandom tragedeigh name.

Sea_Firefighter_4598

Yes.

ellasfella68

Tradge to the max.

scaffnet

Yes. You took an obscure name with a weird spelling and then spelled it wrong on purpose. Parents stop imposing your nerdy bullshit on your offspring. there’s no guarantee they will like the same shit you do.

peppermintmeow

Yikes.

Yahwehnker

Looks like meight’s back on the menu, boys!

AllToRed

Why did you do that to your son?

Bucky-Katt-Guitar

You HATE your son, don't you? Why on earth would you think it was OK to name him Theodin? He's going to get bullied and beaten on a regular basis once he hits school

danson372

Sometimes I worry that all the kids with “unique” names will bully my nephew for being named Carter and it not being a nickname for Carburetor or something. Then this rolls upon my feed and I’m thankful your kid is gonna take the heat for him. I mean holy crap, you asked if your kids name was a Tragedeigh cause you changed one letter in a completely made-up, nonsense name and people told you yes, but for bigger issues, and you get mad? Dude I’m not gonna call you an abuser but your kid is not your pet-as someone else put it. They are a person. Give them a name with meaning that won’t make them stick out and won’t make them cringe to hear everytime they are addressed. You even recognized that as the kid gains independence he may not like the name. And I would not expect any less. Because it’s not a damn name. Honestly why would you do that to your kid?

Iamapartofthisworld

Yes

duckchickendog

Tragidiigh

Oberyn_Kenobi_1

Sigh. I don’t know if it’s a tragedeigh based on the spelling, but it’s certainly a *travesty* that you named your poor kid that. I hope this is a joke.

wattscup

Poor kid

PumpkinSufficient683

Yes I am so sorry to say

Proud_Variation_7922

I'd change my name on my 18th birthday if I were him

Altruistic-Hand-7000

Imagining myself meeting someone with this name, them telling me it’s from LOTR, googling it trying to figure out who tf in the series is Theodin and feeling like I’m being gaslit because there’s a bunch of thick ass books where that name is never spelled that way

Dinky_Doge_Whisperer

What if your kid isn’t into nerdy shit? Your kid is a whole entire separate human and you’ve given them a silly dnd name. That’s a great name for a dog, that’s a selfish choice as a parent

doeafemaledeer

Yes

EmbarrassedRaccoon34

Any name that includes an explanation of the parents' love for a fantasy/sci-fi/romance/other genre series/book/movie is automatically a tragediegh.

BlackSnow555

Everyone is probably just going to call him Theo anyway, it's certainly not bad enough to go through the trouble of a name change

DexterJameson

Dude. What are you thinking? Why would you do that to your kid? It's fucked up. It's narcissistic. You came up with what you believe is a clever little pun.. okay, fine. Nice work. But to attach that bullshit to your own child, forever? For all of their days, they will be forced to explain that dumbass name to everyone they meet. They will have to explain that their father is a selfish moron. To everyone, they ever interact with, forever. Is that what you wanted?

Ok-Scientist-7900

My high school classmate named his son this very name. Not sure about the spelling. I was shocked and appalled on behalf of that poor child.

Mwahaha_790

It's ... not good. Setting your up child for a lifetime of misery, and for what?? You should have used it as a nickname for yourself if you love it so much.

Nanocephalic

Is this a real post? Or is it a joke? You sound insane.

Interesting-Road-567

> I love that so many of you genuinely dislike my choice, it gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Tell me you're butthurt without telling me you're butthurt over people laughing at the sacred-ligious (get it?) name you've saddled on your poor kid :D

LilKatieHQ

Yes. It’s horrible. Also, why would you name your kid after Odin? He sucks! This sounds super tacky to me as a Scandinavian. Sorry but your kid deserves better. You should have gone with Theoden, it would have been somewhat better, at least. But children shouldn’t be billboards for your fandom.

Never_Kn0ws_Best

Keighnd ove trageic but he can just go by Theo which is a dope name.

stlouisraiders

If you have to ask then the answer is yes.

propernice

I would be counting down the days until 18 to change my name. Bullies are gonna have so much fun, dang.

genre_syntax

Yeah, sorry, it’s pretty dweeby. I’m almost 40 and I instinctively want to take your kid’s lunch money.

zorgonzola37

yes it is 100% a Tragedeigh, you shouldn't have to ask given the information. You know it is.

Crot_Chmaster

Yes. Yes it is. I know someone who named their daughter Arwyn. You don't change names from LOTR. You just don't. Same level of Tragedeigh.

SopmodTew

Ya fuckin' nerd 😂

Small_Lion4068

If you’re going to use a literary name spell it correctly. “I think it looks better” says “I can’t spell”

ivel33

That's so mean. What is wrong with you? Kids are not a toy

getdivorced

Great character name, great dogs name, horrible human name.

hedgybaby

I can confidently say that I would have bullied him for it in primary school. Not proud of it and I‘ve grown a lot since then so I‘m not saying this is a good thing. Just stating a fact lol then again names aren‘t what they used to be and he may be surrounded by Oseyangayte and Kymbarleigh and his name may be the most normal out of the class.

TheKiltedYaksman71

I...think you already know the answer.

WeOddAbabyEatsAboi

Yes, it is. Everyone, please stop naming your kids after mythical fantasy whimsy people. At least he can go by “Theo” once he’s old enough to realize what you did. So all is not lost, I guess.

NeverBeenStung

Wow, yes 100%. Feel bad for your son

tko_111

It's nerdy. And that is a fact

PotterGandalf117

This is awful what the fuck

-NGC-6302-

"I thought it looked better" A solid third of bad names are because of that

callmesnake13

It’s like how a Skyler is a flying Tyler

No_Cauliflower_5489

Only people who are as into LOTR books as you probably will realize this is a tragedeigh. Most will just assume its some variation of Theo.

TheSheWhoSaidThats

:/ not the worst but i hope he escapes being a lonely nerd who the other nerds bully due to the misspelling

blue_eyes_forever

Theodin sounds a lot more feminine and I don’t know why you’d want your kids name to spell “the Odin”. Probably should have posted before naming your kid

DiscordiaToo

lol this is satire right

CrimsonKepala

So you wanted to name your son after Theoden, then didn't?

soapdoesart

It is but it’s not like super bad but after thinking about it it’s really cringe, like for one what if your kid doesn’t like lord of the rings? Just cause you like a show or movie doesn’t mean it’s justified to label it to a kid that’s an entirely different person. While some names can work like Luke for example in Star Wars it works cause that’s also just an actual name! “Theodin” is just not it lol. Saving grace is that at least he can just go by Theo

DomesticAlmonds

Sorry mama, it's a bad name for a human child and you went out of your way to also misspell it. Tradegeigh to the max

Ditovontease

Yes for intentionally using a made up spelling for a made up name and for a REALLY corny reason.

InfiniteCosmic5

“Must be from royalty, fiction or nonfiction.” Ok. Robert. Edward. Henry. Edmund. Harold. William. Edgar. Louis. Richard. Charles. These are all names of former royalty. You wanted unique/quirky, and in that line of thinking you should have kept it at Theoden.
