55 dollars down the drain but not wasted

Bumblebee was arguably the second worst to put together. Windblade was a. fucking. nightmare. She looks alright, but the body is a nightmare to assemble for some reason, and her boobs fall off every single time I repose her. I'm still really disappointed they didn't go with a more comic or show accurate design instead of the hilariously bootylicious design. And then they basically recycled the main design for Arcee.
That's a shame but I guess good to know. Windblade was going to be my next build lol.
I almost broke Bee with that stupid ball joint on the chest and his big stompy feet fall apart way too easy on mine.
Megatron and OP are hot though. Fun builds. Starscream was a solid 7.
Omg the chest piece on Bee! Huge agree. I seriously had to put him down and walk away for a while so I wouldn't break it. (I heartbreakingly broke the ball joint in Devastator's left foot while trying to pose him; overestimated how tight the socket joint was and it snapped like a twig)
Megs and OP are so great. I could build 10 of them with no regrets. I've build 2 of the G1 OP's. Highly recommend the IDW Optimus too. The transparent SDCC one is going for cheap, and he comes with a nice stamped case.
Starscream's build was my first, and god, that one's great too. Finding the rest of the seeker trine though... dear god, they're so few released and so expensive for Warp and TC.
Shockwave's a nice one too. He's got the throwback transparent optic lens through his head, so that his eye lights up? Pretty neat in a kit like that imo.
As someone wha has built starscream, I'm not going to disagree honestly. Lots of he parts need glue to stay connected (ie backpack nosecone, kneepad blue parts. And for me the inner torso that connects the cockpit) but it is a solid kit, and if we're going gundam terms, it is technically a perfect grade as it is under 1/60th scale (it's around ~1/56) but yeah, it looks great, but it has many loose parts, decent poseability, and an off looking head to me
Quick edit: yeah the g1 optimus is also really good, tried to make that thing look like it has cartoonish lines and stuff, didn't work though.
He's a cool lil guy! Especially his big stompers and hammer!
But there's a piece on the chest that I genuinely thought I broke it putting it on and the feet just will not stay together. He lives posed in a cabinet now.
If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, keep an eye out for their sales. Once in a blue moon, the model kits go on sale for anywhere from 40 to 60% off. That's when I snagged my Bee and my Optimus iirc..? It was a pre-black friday sale
Man sry for your disappointment, it really sounds like he dug a big hole in your wallet. For me it was Jetfire from Threezero, i really tried to like this figure but the fact that you need to puzzle him together like a model kit (high chances to lose parts) and then there is the articulation that is weird, making him stand akwardly he just looked out of place in my collection.
At least i got him for cheap and could resell him for a higher price, but it took a long time and patience for that. Almost thought i was stuck with the financial loss and this thing, his box takes a whole corner in a room it’s absolutely whack.
Don’t get me wrong detail wise he is great and so on but he didn’t reach my expectations and didn’t fit where he was planned to be displayed. At least he has a new owner that appreciates him the way he should.
https://preview.redd.it/dzw7agfbp0wc1.jpeg?width=3122&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d801b8cde928ea392d9af01161d5ba2cb7db9089
Wanted to but a few parts where fragile as hell (and i own a lot of threezero and handle them always with care so i kinda knew the breaking point when to stop), the tutorial videos showed to just roughly click into a few places but i saw on some connection places that it was already stressed due from the former owner. I got him preowned. So that option was out of the window, because i didn’t want to damage it, the plan was to either display optimus power mode with him or just optimus, bee and jetfire behind them but yeah 🤷♀️
Not sure if it's a financial mistake but I snagged a HasLab Unicron during the restock a few months ago. It's still sitting in the unopened shipping box because I have nowhere big enough to display it.
having done this myself. when I displayed him I thought "this thing is HUGE" but over time his space in my display feels more comfortable. so put him out! its going to be a bit shocking at first but it gets more familiar
Restock, eh? I figured the original "get it now, or else!" was gonna be it! That's good for all the folks in southeast Asia whose Unicrons were destroyed during shipping or whatever. Was it just on Hasbro Pulse?
It was Pulse. They were just selling off a tiny number of extra units they held onto to cover defect replacements. They’re never going to put it back into production.
This was the main thing that stopped me from buying the Ark or Omega. One of the collector shops near me has a Generations Omega Supreme for supreme dollars, and I was so tempted. But then I remembered I have no room to store him in the box, much less display him in all his glory
studio series Jetfire, when I managed to buy a loose leader class Optimus Prime, I decided that moment that I will get Jetfire for him. I didn't want to take chances so it had to be in perfectly new condition, So I bought the Takara Tomy version from japan, shipped via Fedex. Not only was it quite a steep price, but the shipping fee I got was just way too much. This is the last time I will ever ship something with Fedex that's for sure. To top this all off a few months later Baiwei announced their own KO version with the DNA design kit.
Even tho I regret spending this much, I don't regret getting this figure. It looks amazing on my shelf with Optimus
https://preview.redd.it/ljbjnkmgt0wc1.png?width=2016&format=png&auto=webp&s=e88bead642a5c4716dbd2dac26b81f661d05440c
Ur so lucky bro😭😭😭 at least yours is intact cuz I got mine sealed MIB for $90USD and after the first week of owning him, the hinge that connects the upper and lower part of the body had half of it crack off and the other part had a huge stress mark. Because of how thin it was, and the amount of stress it had on it it was basically impossible to transform him anymore without him breaking. So now he just sits on my shelf😭😭😭
https://preview.redd.it/hratx5fbh1wc1.jpeg?width=3657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a7acb7a206be7ff0bcf5937db2517dfb1b4a659
Went over budget on this one just to find out it doesn't even transform
Well, the actual transformation cog cost more money than the body. You might need to go recycle some Decepticons. I’m pretty sure Skywarp left one behind.
Transformers Legacy Evolution Nemesis Leo Prime.
Saw it in a store, paid full price for it. So far, over 100 figures, only one I actually regret buying. Complete impulse buy as I'm not much a fan of beastformers anyway in general and realized after I bought it that it was on sale online.
https://preview.redd.it/s7jj650311wc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09d284a2f1d62c0ec0d8398c954472ae52fc1a0b
I got both TLK and ROTF DLX figures as a bundle sale…big chunk of change
Thrilling 30 (SDCC) Metroplex... not only was he inordinately expensive on his own, he got me into collecting Titan Class toys... and made me buy a bigger display case to house all that Titan Class.
This is one I am kicking myself for not getting into some debt for getting back in the day, since they are so expensive now and difficult to find in unopened condition.
You're kicking yourself? My son accidentally purchased this on Amazon when he was 2 and I just cancelled the order thinking I'd get to it later. It was a little under $100 back then.
I still don't have it.
Honestly? Studio series Devastator. I got it before the combined mode was officially revealed and when it was I fell out of love with it super hard. I still have it but that’s only because if I sell it, I will never be able to get it back.
I would not call it a mistake as i only buy figures i really want but yeah without a doubt my most expensive is cybertron/galaxy force chromia just one of those pain in the ass figure that almost dont exist when its exlusive to japan aswell as a dvd 😬
https://preview.redd.it/qnr45otgy0wc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60da3cf119fe2377f8573e52015fc8ce565f35dc
I try to avoid looking at any of them as mistakes regardless of the money lost in obtaining them. Like, I probably didn't need to get the Gen Selects Black Zarak. I don't have any ties to that version of the character, I haven't watched Super God Masterforce yet, I already have the ER Scorponok he is functionally identical to, and, even though I got it at a reduced price when it went on sale at BBTS, it was still a big chunk of money for something that I did not in any way need. Worse, getting him made me want to go cop a Black Roritchi as well, which by then I could only do at aftermarket prices. And yet, looking at him up on the shelf, he looks awesome, that makes me happy for a fleeting moment, and I probably would have spent that money by now anyway, so how could I really consider it a mistake? If I did start thinking of it in those terms, honestly probably a third to half of my collection or more would be mistakes, and who wants to live in that world?
All of the past HasLabs have sold higher on the secondary market than the toys cost to back, so this probably isn't a financial mistake. If you don't like the toy or regret the dent to your wallet you'll likely be able to sell it for full price if not $100-200 more.
The one that rankles is MPG Raiden, I'm sure it's decent, but the horrendous price tag, the fact it cost me more that a vintage set of 6 MIB, has just left me with such a bad taste I haven't even opened any of them yet.
Whoa... what's the opposite of sunk cost fallacy? You gotta open 'em! They're truly marvels in-hand. At **least** display their train modes!
I felt a little burned by 'em too because half of 'em jumped up to double price during The Dark Times wherein shipping became EMS/DHL only due to Japan's C-19 restrictions. (I can't fathom why anyone would buy 'em domestically in Canada, lest one has some sort of financial domination fetish.)
Ultimately Raiden costs more than Unicron, and I was a little crestfallen when I thought the combined arms were bad (I'd just mis-transformed 'em) but the whole package is divine. Having a half-dozen little black boxes is cheating yourself out of die-cast rail-robo magnificence!
MPG Raiden is shit. You win, /thread.
The worst part is that if you paid retail to build Raiden, you're into the set for at least $900 when you could have bought the much nicer [Moon Studio Raiden for $600](https://showzstore.com/moon-studio-ms-07-radiatron-trainbots-combiner-raiden-set-of-6_p5481.html), and gotten a truly a beautiful combiner that is rock solid.
Planet X Vulcun AKA FoC Grimlock, to which I spent a whopping $150 for. It was my first time at a convention center and I guess I got a bit too excited to spend money there, and well... I guess I paid for my haste with a figure with cheap-feeling looks and plastic.
The second one was NBK's Gatling King here. While I do think it's worth its price, the financial mistake of buying this thing is that I need to buy more shelf space to put the damn thing on - it's on my floor currently.
https://preview.redd.it/bqu8pg48j1wc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1f8ddd4524075d8a75da05fe0b60a02d2002c58
Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime.
Sunk 80 bucks into it but since Cybertron was my G1 and I never got a chance to get the original figure all I can say is: ***Fuckin worth it.***
Hmmm, I've spent an obscene amount of money on quite a lot of figures, but I think the only one I regret is probably Zeta's Bumblebee Blitzwing - that thing is a mess, looks great in both modes but actually doing anything with it sucks ass. Thankfully I got it half price, but it still wasn't worth even that IMHO.
My unique toys TLK Megatron has a busted knee and I was never able to get it fixed. Black Magic transformation and I just never touch him as he’ll fall over immediately
Most recently missing link prime. I pre-ordered him as a birthday present to my father expecting him to come months ago and then forgot about him. I've been experiencing car troubles so I've been low on cash so suddenly losing $150 was not ideal.
I brought the Bee and Starscream Reactivate bundle that is based off of the upcoming game, and tbh I kinda regret it. I got it cuz I don't have that many figures, especially ones which are jets; so I brought it due to Starscream who's alright, but I didn't want or need Bee...so buying a bundle box only to want one figure seems like a mistake to me
MPM Blackout. I’ve had a few regrets in my purchases, but none will be as great of a regret as when I bought him. A few weeks later, Target heavily discounted him
Pain and suffering, dude
Yes, this one didn't financially ruin me but it is the only one I go back and question. I'm glad I have MP-44, but he is by far not the nicest Masterpiece style G1 Prime I own.
Perfect Effect's 'Beast Muscle' Leonidas. Wanted it as soon as I saw early preview photos, but the damned thing was a piece of stiff-jointed, fragile crap. I think I paid about £120 for it, and part of the mane broke off during the first transformation. The vendor was able to order a replacement part, but then the robot's head came off - the stem of the ball joint sheared apart when I attempted to pose it.
After that, I shoved it back in its box and left it on a shelf for about a year before finally deciding to offload it on eBay. Got £20 for it. Didn't care as I was just glad to be rid of it.
Other than that figure, my experience with Perfect Effect's products had been largely positive. After that, I paid closer attention to reviews before spending anything on their stuff.
This is why I vow to never spend over $100 on any figures. They may be irresponsible fincancial decisions, but damnit they’re gonna be small ones that way I can recover fast and keep buying more ! 😂
Since 2003 so over a period of 21 years so far, but still...
And this doesn't count the mainline Transformers I've purchased in that time period, or any of the other stuff I collect like DC stuff.
https://preview.redd.it/nq8h710zu1wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04e16f8dc2f4c2a558925ab501cdbd2dfaa0fc30
I know it's a figure that a lot of people like, but for me it's frustrating. The pieces on his back don't stay in their place, those same pieces limit the posability a lot (although this guy doesn't really need dynamic poses tbh), and it transforms into nothing literally, plus transformation is not fun. I'm just gonna put him in my shelf cuz it does look fucking amazing but yeah, probably not touching him a lot after that
I took a big L buying him too, I spent £90 on it cuz he was hard to find in the UK. If I just waited a year, I would never have bought him because black mamba did a cheaper, better and bigger MPM scaled version of this, which is amazing
https://preview.redd.it/5yaen0xey2wc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c82673cc41b5c56f7743678d3190eb9a32f8b0b9
Movie The Best Takara DOTM Optimus for $155.
His screws on his arms teared up when I carefully unscrewed them to give him silver fully articulated/transformable UFO Hands and his right elbow joint doesn't ratchet anymore and can barely hold his weapons now.
Sucks cause I REALLY like it otherwise. If anyone has a solution, PLEASE give me some tips.
That GIJoe Megatron. Ironically, the Hiss Tank mode is great, but that robot mode is hollow, low-articulated garbage that barely stands thanks to the massive backpack. I hate how small the peg for the fusion cannon is too. It almost never stays on. Definitely not worth the commander class price point.😡
https://preview.redd.it/395fg9gj16wc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fb27ad63d66959456c65d157c06b93e3ad65a38
First is pretty self explanatory, and it broke within a month with no effort or force, so that sucks.
https://preview.redd.it/jts7xqlp16wc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a6425e873e190c5a2fc8a8abbe3d1bb745945e6
Second, is this yellow devil. Never really liked this design, but I wanted to own this mold so I got this because it did not have the mask that his previous molds had. It wasn’t that bad until a few weeks later, both his wings broke at the hinge. Fuck clear plastic.
https://preview.redd.it/jik8gdg826wc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e521a9652dc06d3f8b7d02c53a479c11453086e
Lastly, this may be shocking but ss93. I still have him, and that’s the problem, he is the only studio series bayverse figure I have. Pretty solid figure, but the thing is, he stands out from my collection, and I don’t like it. And I don’t like the design either, not sure I even bothered to buy him. Definitely planning on selling him.
For me SS86 Grimlock. I like the figure it's nice but not worth the price I paid online to get him. Especially since it's been leaked that he will be re-released next year
Legacy Prime Universe Arcee. It was an impulse buy but it was super loose, Arms fell off and the crotch guard snapped. 35 dollars down the drain for the most shit bikeformer that I’ve ever handled
Mistake? Maybe Black Apple Ironhide because I didn't have the money on hand and got indebted, also I believe BA Ironhide NEEDS the upgraded head, his sculpting is so bad there💀.
But in reality I've been mostly pretty tamed about my figures and I cherish them all to consider them mistakes.
Masterpiece beastwars megatron. Every review talked greatly about this figure, but to me, it was just a pain in the ass to transform, didn't feel solid, and eventually broke. Waste of money that one
Might have been just now lol. Email came in saying Cang Toys Snarl was available for purchase. Some reason I had like 2000 points in my ShowZStore account despite never buying from them, so I got 20 off that purchase. It was $134.99, I hope it's worth it, since I love Gundam and Transformers it was kind of an impulse buy. Especially after just buying both Star Saber and Deathsaurus together 🫠
so far I’ve had a few that I’m just so pissed I even bought into them.
Hobby Decepticon Set - I was really hoping for better, love the cyclonus character but man these figures just felt so frail.
Nemesis Prime POTP - just looks pretty in box out of box I was very underwhelmed.
Silver Knight Optimus with Grimlock - Huge Grimlock fan, this variation, not a fan at all.
Astrotrain - titans? I bought it used thinking it was the siege one - didn’t realize it until I got home and went oh god that’s not it, and the toy place has a no returns policy so I just kind of let it sit there.
I have the complete build a figure earthspark 8 unopened figures not a regret mind you just haven’t opened them just yet.
I also bought some of the Rise of the beast figures thinking they would be okay for to display at work - yeah the core class set figures knock them out of the park.
I’ve overpaid for some figures and of course realize that a day or two later but that’s okay I’m still happy with the purchase!
I've not bought many expensive Transformers, at least not expensive enough to be a big financial mistake. I overpaid for the recent core class Prime with trailer and Bumblebee, mainly because I wanted the accessories. He's OK but I do have some buyer's remorse, I have other, more fun Primes and his only real selling point is the axe and shield. The trailer doesn't even hitch well.
I don't regret my purchase, but it was probably not the best time for me to get Legacy Armada Optimus for $120 😅
https://preview.redd.it/cb1hczph12wc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d29e2b1e28fec1973d424a152d9bff264c36833
Ultra Magnus and Mirage from the Netflix Siege line. Didn’t realize until after I bought them how not fun they were to mess with, and the decos weren’t doing it for me either.
Yeah I didn’t collect much from the WFC line and avoided earthrise as much as I could, other than Optimus, but purely so I could experiment with my 3D printer. I do have most of the Kingdom beast figures tho, but since rise of the beasts came out I might get rid of them
I'm gonna come in hot here, but SS86 Sludge was one of the few figures where I've felt guilty about what I paid after getting him in hand.
He looks great on a shelf, in either mode. But he's a massive pain in the ass to transform, his neck barely holds together in dino mode if I want to pose him or just futz around with him, and **his knee/hips are so loose I have to position him just right to ensure he actually stands up in robot mode.**
The worst of the SS86 Dinobots by a mile, even without having Swoop in hand, and while not a terrible figure....I still kinda grimace at the $60 I paid for him.
Fans Toys Iron Dibots Grimlock.
He was my grail, I spent $650 for him due to him being outta print for years.
Got him, and the figure almost single handedly killed my interest in collecting MP scale.
He was unwieldy, joints were loose and overall a pain, the ratchets were WAY too tight and loud, and Fans Toys stylistic choices just didn't look good in person. What's worse, I sold my SS86 Grim to afford him.
Now I wish I just had the Ss86, such a better figure. And now, I effectively only collect mainline.
You can wait a till next year (I think) for the SS86 reissue or get the comics version coming out soon. I also suggest getting a KO of the Takara Masterpiece, he's slightly taller than the SS86, has diecast and all the chrome bits that you can display him as the modern G1 colors and then get the SS86 for the toon colors.
Getting the Legacy Energon Megatron on Amazon, had to pay $17.56 just for a “insert smol figure size class here” was a mistake, especially since they actually stocked it at my nearby Target so if I had just waited I would have saved $10.
Transformers are by no means even close to the most expensive parts of my collection. I guess the Titan Generations Legacy Metroplex, since he’s not the version of Metroplex I really care about.
MM-01
I love him but I barely touched him because it make me so nervous because of how expensive he is. I transformed him maybe once and then he collected dust on a shelf before he took a dive and his leg got fucked up… rip.
Me it would be xtb menasor.
I had them all pre ordered and got em a little
At a time. Then when trailer came out i cringed at how much the price jumped.
Got jt any way. Broke parts of the trailer, got a replacement. Now he just stays seperated
Cause topples too easy and i dont trust my dog ever since she ate my silas breakdown lol
So it was a finacial disaster only for.something
To just display i rarely touch.
i really wanted to have black apple OP tho the reviews kinda scared me, and the upgrades are too expensive for my taste
i only have LT02 with jet power prime (also the reason i havent have the black apple, i wanted the jet power upgrade kit to fit)
Gen selects galvatron 1 on the low end, gen selects guardian robot on the high end. Good toys but one is too fiddly to mess with and the others too large.
I like the Unique Toys UTR-02 Challenger (Optimus Prime) from Transformers: The Last Knight...Very accurate to the film and quality us amazing. When in robot mode you can't even tell it transforms, its so accurate it looks like a model fig...But there's actually a newer one that just came out and its even has a few more film accurate traits, but the one I have is still holding strong. Expensive but very worth it and the doors open in vehicle mode too.
i havent got any new figures since i was 8 but, i got two TFP wheeljack figures for christmas and a beast hunters retool for my birthday, and man... it was the first TF figure that i didnt like, the arms articulations suck so bad
Bought a Takara Rodimus Prime MP at a tfcon. Paid far too much money but I was excited to have the big boi with the rear cab and all that. One of his calves fell off doing the intructed rotation of said part. Undid the reat of the transformation and sold it untouched a few weeks later. Definitely lost money on it but I ended up with FOC Metroplex whom I still enjoy to this day. But yeah that was a learning experience.
Only 1 I truly regret was trying to pick up a HasLab Deathsaurus from what seemed a good seller on FB Marketplace. Price was fair and it had been opened, but we talked a little about it and the upcoming Fire Convoy. He seemed okay, so I went for it, but then after I paid, piece of slag ghosted and blocked me. Not getting over that burn anytime soon.
After that, I'd say I feel pretty bad for the prices I let some of my original Car Robots and Web Diver figures go for now.
The war for cybertron game combaticons from an few years ago. Love combiners, saw them all at the store one day.. spent money I didn't really have on them, because Bruticus! Got them hone and was disappointed, plastic was cheap, the figures don't look great and Bruticus looks bad.. I still have it, and I think maybe I should look at upgrade kits, see if there's one that could save it? But yeah. Oh, and Generations Galvatron.. because WTF were they thinking with that figure?
Ss 86 coronation starscream, it became $30 on Amazon the week after I bought it for $55
https://preview.redd.it/sd7vy6b8riwc1.jpeg?width=310&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e6eb69cd74fe111d15142baea700fc81778e4ca
Probably Legacy Metroplex.
Admittedly I got a CW Superion (with upgrade kits) for about the same price, but that was too worth it to be considered a mistake. Metroplex on the other hand I could get for so much cheaper now.
Siege Jetfire. I spent 100 something to get him. Why was this mistake you ask? Because Hasbro has the audacity to rerelease him at original price months later.
Certainly don't regret getting him, I'm just upset he got rereleased at his original price so unexpectedly
Yeah he's definitely amazing. Kinda barely fits in my display area (not because the area is small but because of how many figures are there)
Trying to clear up some space so I can get a bookshelf and have some extra room for figs
All of em. This addiction has taken me by the throat
55 dollars down the drain but not wasted https://preview.redd.it/y96oqq46o0wc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=816b58e77a57ef9958fbee58cc479d3451d4e91e
Seeing that Megatron with a Decepticon logo is so weird for me lol
Nah man, that kit SLAPS. The Bumblebee one is the worst of the bunch. Megatron has fallen off the shelf at least twice and sustained no damage.
(I heartbreakingly broke the ball joint in Devastator's left foot while trying to pose him; overestimated how tight the socket joint was and it snapped like a twig) Megs and OP are so great.
And for me the inner torso that connects the cockpit) but it is a solid kit, and if we're going gundam terms, it is technically a perfect grade as it is under 1/60th scale (it's around ~1/56) but yeah, it looks great, but it has many loose parts, decent poseability, and an off looking head to me Quick edit: yeah the g1 optimus is also really good, tried to make that thing look like it has cartoonish lines and stuff, didn't work though.
I want the bumblebee one so badly lol
He's a cool lil guy! Especially his big stompers and hammer! But there's a piece on the chest that I genuinely thought I broke it putting it on and the feet just will not stay together. He lives posed in a cabinet now.
Wait I'm tripping I meant the Megatron concept
Oh lol he's totally worth it. Fun model kit.
If you have a Hobby Lobby near you, keep an eye out for their sales. Once in a blue moon, the model kits go on sale for anywhere from 40 to 60% off. That's when I snagged my Bee and my Optimus iirc..? It was a pre-black friday sale
Yeah I got the BugBite version of the Bee kit and I thought I was doing something wrong cuz of the chest ball-joint
I only have Starscream
Flame toy kits my beloved
Why didn't you build jet power Optimus with him?
I almost did this. My collection already takes up too much space. The studio series and wfc run from 2014 to 2022 was just too good.
having done this myself. when I displayed him I thought "this thing is HUGE" but over time his space in my display feels more comfortable. so put him out! its going to be a bit shocking at first but it gets more familiar
Hm, I opened my Unicron the day he arrived. Tossed the box and styro. Homeboy is sitting in the middle of my collection. no ragerts.
This is me, but with my titans and bigger LEGO sets. One day…
studio series Jetfire, when I managed to buy a loose leader class Optimus Prime, I decided that moment that I will get Jetfire for him. It looks amazing on my shelf with Optimus https://preview.redd.it/ljbjnkmgt0wc1.png?width=2016&format=png&auto=webp&s=e88bead642a5c4716dbd2dac26b81f661d05440c

I love that Optimus, he goes hard on his own in Robot mode, very movie accurate.
I am really sorry to hear that. Isn't that hinge made from dyecast metal?
No it was the other one above that one
https://preview.redd.it/hratx5fbh1wc1.jpeg?width=3657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a7acb7a206be7ff0bcf5937db2517dfb1b4a659 Went over budget on this one just to find out it doesn't even transform
Well, the actual transformation cog cost more money than the body. You might need to go recycle some Decepticons. I’m pretty sure Skywarp left one behind.
4k? Riiiiiiight...
Just one?
This man bears the soul of a true toy collector.
Damn, I almost picked that one up before, guess I dodged a bullet lol
My original Beast Wars Optimus Primal, the bloody smegger will NOT stand upright, but I love him all the same
Every toy I bought as an adult was more or less a case of financial mismanagement lol
https://preview.redd.it/s7jj650311wc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09d284a2f1d62c0ec0d8398c954472ae52fc1a0b I got both TLK and ROTF DLX figures as a bundle sale…big chunk of change
My SS Devastator... I mean, shy would anyone make it so expensive, yet bad quality? My mixmaster and long haul broke...
The godawful transformation to get mixmaster back to truck mode or onto devastator makes you want to break the damn thing.
For real though
Ss mixmaster is easy tho?
Same, I waited over a year to get all the figures shipped just for the whole thing to release as soon as I finally completed him.
I would not call it a mistake as i only buy figures i really want but yeah without a doubt my most expensive is cybertron/galaxy force chromia just one of those pain in the ass figure that almost dont exist when its exlusive to japan aswell as a dvd 😬 https://preview.redd.it/qnr45otgy0wc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60da3cf119fe2377f8573e52015fc8ce565f35dc
Probably Haslab RiD Omega Prime That was $250
I don't consider it a mistake until it arrives 😂
All of the past HasLabs have sold higher on the secondary market than the toys cost to back, so this probably isn't a financial mistake. If you don't like the toy or regret the dent to your wallet you'll likely be able to sell it for full price if not $100-200 more.
No I am gonna like it But I spent 250 dollars on plastic
The one that rankles is MPG Raiden, I'm sure it's decent, but the horrendous price tag, the fact it cost me more that a vintage set of 6 MIB, has just left me with such a bad taste I haven't even opened any of them yet.
Whoa... what's the opposite of sunk cost fallacy? You gotta open 'em! They're truly marvels in-hand. At **least** display their train modes! I felt a little burned by 'em too because half of 'em jumped up to double price during The Dark Times wherein shipping became EMS/DHL only due to Japan's C-19 restrictions. (I can't fathom why anyone would buy 'em domestically in Canada, lest one has some sort of financial domination fetish.) Ultimately Raiden costs more than Unicron, and I was a little crestfallen when I thought the combined arms were bad (I'd just mis-transformed 'em) but the whole package is divine. Having a half-dozen little black boxes is cheating yourself out of die-cast rail-robo magnificence!
I will, one day. Probably when there's a decent upgrade kit so i don't hate the combined mode as much as I do now.
I don't know much about third party stuff... Is it common for Masterpiece 'bots to get modification packages or whatever?
When needed, yes.
This is the correct answer. You can find the entire line on the second-hand market for under retail.
Hot toys Starscream/Optimus lol
Was there any "lore" reason for the Starscream wings? Or do you suppose the designer was just like "all robots must have wings, end of story."?
Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime. Sunk 80 bucks into it but since Cybertron was my G1 and I never got a chance to get the original figure all I can say is: ***Fuckin worth it.***
First release Robosen Optimus Prime. So overpriced for a party trick.
SS Blackout, a Chinese knock off of TR Brainstorm that turns out to be oversized, and legacy buzzsaw.
Got the unique toys TLK Optimus years ago, arm broke off in shipping and has lived there since
My unique toys TLK Megatron has a busted knee and I was never able to get it fixed.
MPM Jazz. Shitty paint scratched immediately. Might buy the KO one day. I hear it is better quality than the official.
https://preview.redd.it/irqawgdhj1wc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=240befb49b791960a9449b56ece45bd3b4d5b148 First MP figure u got
Haslab Omega Prime. Left a hole in my wallet but filled the hole in my heart.
That’s what girlfriends are for 🤣
ss86 jazz. not because of the figure itself, but because i thought i'd be ok with only getting him...
I brought the Bee and Starscream Reactivate bundle that is based off of the upcoming game, and tbh I kinda regret it. I got it cuz I don't have that many figures, especially ones which are jets; so I brought it due to Starscream who's alright, but I didn't want or need Bee...so buying a bundle box only to want one figure seems like a mistake to me
Thattts how they getya. I see myself in the same situation if i want to get legacy tfp breakdown in the future.
MPM Blackout. I’ve had a few regrets in my purchases, but none will be as great of a regret as when I bought him. A few weeks later, Target heavily discounted him Pain and suffering, dude
MP-44 Cybertron Commander Convoy Ver.3.0 preorder import
Yes, this one didn't financially ruin me but it is the only one I go back and question. I'm glad I have MP-44, but he is by far not the nicest Masterpiece style G1 Prime I own.
i mean...arent they all technically?
Mastermind Creations Ocular Max Assaultus combiner set of 5 for $660. Worth every fucking cent.
I been digging the hole since 2017 n ima keep digging it till my casket drops 🤣🤣
Gotta be Commander of Stars. Broken fingers, broken shoulder ratchets and poor posing but the truck looks good at least.
> I just desired the most accurate bayverse prime. This isn't even close ngl, that easily goes to ThreeZero DLX Optimus.
None i am always am very frugal
I have roughly $25,000 in Masterpiece and 3P figures staring at me from their Detolf prisons as I write this... So.. all of them?
$25,000…
Since 2003 so over a period of 21 years so far, but still... And this doesn't count the mainline Transformers I've purchased in that time period, or any of the other stuff I collect like DC stuff.
https://preview.redd.it/nq8h710zu1wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04e16f8dc2f4c2a558925ab501cdbd2dfaa0fc30 I know it's a figure that a lot of people like, but for me it's frustrating.
Buying both tidal wave and omega prime on the same day.
Kingdom Tracks. I started collecting only a couple years ago and he was the first purchase that actually disappointed me
He's so loose, posing him is a funny joke
https://preview.redd.it/5yaen0xey2wc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c82673cc41b5c56f7743678d3190eb9a32f8b0b9 Movie The Best Takara DOTM Optimus for $155.
Devil savior split, he did in fact split into peices (love their overload though)
Kingdom arcee AND red arcee
That GIJoe Megatron. Ironically, the Hiss Tank mode is great, but that robot mode is hollow, low-articulated garbage that barely stands thanks to the massive backpack. I hate how small the peg for the fusion cannon is too. It almost never stays on. Definitely not worth the commander class price point.😡
https://preview.redd.it/395fg9gj16wc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fb27ad63d66959456c65d157c06b93e3ad65a38 First is pretty self explanatory, and it broke within a month with no effort or force, so that sucks.
https://preview.redd.it/jts7xqlp16wc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a6425e873e190c5a2fc8a8abbe3d1bb745945e6 Second, is this yellow devil. Never really liked this design, but I wanted to own this mold so I got this because it did not have the mask that his previous molds had. It wasn’t that bad until a few weeks later, both his wings broke at the hinge. Fuck clear plastic.
https://preview.redd.it/jik8gdg826wc1.jpeg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e521a9652dc06d3f8b7d02c53a479c11453086e Lastly, this may be shocking but ss93. I still have him, and that’s the problem, he is the only studio series bayverse figure I have. Pretty solid figure, but the thing is, he stands out from my collection, and I don’t like it. And I don’t like the design either, not sure I even bothered to buy him. Definitely planning on selling him.
This one has me intrigued tbh I'd b interested in this if u can share all the stuff u bought and changed on it
Jetwing Prime
SS Grindor
Guardian Robot
MPM starscream $200 cause I wanted to complete the set,he looks cool but he can’t even stand up on his own
$200? Yeesh I think I paid like £40 for mine. He’s a beefy boi who’s currently guarding my rum bottles
Ah, that explains his constant drooling.
huh, mine doesnt have that problem...tho he is tricky to balance for sure
Gamer series megatron
Beast Machines Ultra Class Nightscream. Broke it within 5 minutes of opening it.
Any of 'em I spent my own money on. :)
For me SS86 Grimlock. I like the figure it's nice but not worth the price I paid online to get him. Especially since it's been leaked that he will be re-released next year
I do not yet own him but, omega supreme when I find him for less than $400
Legacy Prime Universe Arcee. It was an impulse buy but it was super loose, Arms fell off and the crotch guard snapped. 35 dollars down the drain for the most shit bikeformer that I’ve ever handled
I bought a replacement Motormaster from BBTS across the Atlantic shortly before Amazon UK had him on clearance.
Kingdom Ultra Magnus with aftermarket mark-up. I never would've got it if I knew the commander class would come out.
There was an electric bumblebee that came out with the first movie. He was a big, and blocky, and not worth the couple hundred I spent on it.
I really spent almost 90$ for the studio serie concept art Megatron when I kept telling myself to save money
All of them 😂
Masterpiece beastwars megatron.
Not a figure, but I had a model kit that I accidentally broke while I was building it. I think it was the Big Powered one?
Give it to me if you dont want it
I’ve invested way too much to sell this off lol 😂
The bayverse 15 anniversary packs. Both of them. I ended up regretting those purchases lmao.
Yeesh, those aren’t cheap 😂
I've not bought many expensive Transformers, at least not expensive enough to be a big financial mistake. I overpaid for the recent core class Prime with trailer and Bumblebee, mainly because I wanted the accessories. He's OK but I do have some buyer's remorse, I have other, more fun Primes and his only real selling point is the axe and shield. The trailer doesn't even hitch well.
Studio Series 86 Arcee - I didn't even spend much on, but the aggravation more than makes up for it.
Nakomake Optimus Prime, I paid a little over $1k and 2 months later ShowZ had it for about $150.
I don't regret my purchase, but it was probably not the best time for me to get Legacy Armada Optimus for $120 😅 https://preview.redd.it/cb1hczph12wc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d29e2b1e28fec1973d424a152d9bff264c36833
Yikes
I still have mine from the original armada series!
I never had that one. I just wanted this one because I knew it was a great figure, and it looked really cool
But he's a massive pain in the ass to transform, his neck barely holds together in dino mode if I want to pose him or just futz around with him, and **his knee/hips are so loose I have to position him just right to ensure he actually stands up in robot mode.** The worst of the SS86 Dinobots by a mile, even without having Swoop in hand, and while not a terrible figure....I still kinda grimace at the $60 I paid for him.
FansToys Grimlock
All of them
Do you want the short list or the long?
Mpm Blackout. I don't regret my purchase
Robosen Optimus Prime ... it was cool but just did not play with it enough and does not display well unless you buy the expensive base ...
Even with that base, it just dangles like a dead marionette when the power is off.
Getting the Legacy Energon Megatron on Amazon, had to pay $17.56 just for a “insert smol figure size class here” was a mistake, especially since they actually stocked it at my nearby Target so if I had just waited I would have saved $10.
Legacy menasor fr such a disappointment
Transformers are by no means even close to the most expensive parts of my collection. I guess the Titan Generations Legacy Metroplex, since he’s not the version of Metroplex I really care about.
Earthrise grapple Broke almost immediately
MM-01 I love him but I barely touched him because it make me so nervous because of how expensive he is. I transformed him maybe once and then he collected dust on a shelf before he took a dive and his leg got fucked up… rip.
I'd be kind of embarrassed if you folks saw the prices I've paid in Canada for Target exclusives that end up deeply disounted shelf warmers in the US.
Legacy Galvatron at full retail. Could have waited and saved like $20 buying online.
I have the Robosen optimus prime (original) and trailer as well as the robosen grimlock. Sooo that was $4600 right there alone.
Me it would be xtb menasor. I had them all pre ordered and got em a little At a time. Then when trailer came out i cringed at how much the price jumped. Got jt any way. Broke parts of the trailer, got a replacement. Now he just stays seperated Cause topples too easy and i dont trust my dog ever since she ate my silas breakdown lol So it was a finacial disaster only for.something To just display i rarely touch.
i really wanted to have black apple OP tho the reviews kinda scared me, and the upgrades are too expensive for my taste i only have LT02 with jet power prime (also the reason i havent have the black apple, i wanted the jet power upgrade kit to fit)
Um *raises hand* .....all of them? According to my wife anyway.....and my lack of space
Moon Studio Radiatron. I spent several hundred dollars on a combiner, only to regret purchasing it because of how soulless it looked.
Unique Toys TLK Megatron. First time transforming him, he broke.
But yeah that was a learning experience.
the first one
ss86-12. need i say more?
WHERE DID YOU GET IT
I'm just trying to fix up my MP-01.
I spent £140 on a botcon 2012 kick-off don’t really regret it though, wanted since I was a kid
Drlockdown made a 40 minute rant-rospective on thunder leader on yt
The war for cybertron game combaticons from an few years ago. Love combiners, saw them all at the store one day.. spent money I didn't really have on them, because Bruticus! Got them hone and was disappointed, plastic was cheap, the figures don't look great and Bruticus looks bad.. I still have it, and I think maybe I should look at upgrade kits, see if there's one that could save it? But yeah. Oh, and Generations Galvatron.. because WTF were they thinking with that figure?
I spent $350 on the 15th anniversary autobot arrival SS 5 pack. Not sure if I regret it but it was a big chunk of change
Ss 86 coronation starscream, it became $30 on Amazon the week after I bought it for $55 https://preview.redd.it/sd7vy6b8riwc1.jpeg?width=310&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e6eb69cd74fe111d15142baea700fc81778e4ca
Probably Legacy Metroplex. Admittedly I got a CW Superion (with upgrade kits) for about the same price, but that was too worth it to be considered a mistake. Metroplex on the other hand I could get for so much cheaper now.
I bought Legacy Metroplex when it came out :'(

As much as I love them, these three take the cake for me
Goddamn DS Devastator is 1000 quid, wish I had this tho lol 😂
Siege Jetfire. I spent 100 something to get him. Why was this mistake you ask? Because Hasbro has the audacity to rerelease him at original price months later. Certainly don't regret getting him, I'm just upset he got rereleased at his original price so unexpectedly
Ah rip. I think I got him on rerelease which cost me £80 ($100). Love the figure but I need to clean it up somepoint lol
Yeah he's definitely amazing. Kinda barely fits in my display area (not because the area is small but because of how many figures are there) Trying to clear up some space so I can get a bookshelf and have some extra room for figs
All of them
Wfc earthrise ultra magnus, totally screwed me over
God.. those hooks look really small, at least thats what I think.
