The red eye actually looks better on him to me, if it matches the rest of his body and personality. For example I think Prime and DOTM Shockwave look better with red a optic than he would with a yellow one, just as I find a yellow eye more fitting on G1 or IDW Shockwave.

Animation error. Either that or he has a downsized version of his alt mode.

I assume the animators got confused by his animation model and thought that his gun mode was supposed to be his weapon

It's only logical that Shockwave would have a weapon of his alt mode. Why would he settle for anything less than the most superior firepower.

Shockwave is one of the few characters where yellow to red depending on his mood/mode makes sense. Yellow feels more "right" if he's a reoccurring character and not a third faction type. Red has this much more "oh shit" feel that would feel over used if he's more common in that series.

Green is really spooky, but classic yellow really highlights his status as a wildcard among the Decepticons Blue is more of a Senator Shockwave / Longarm Prime color imo

Yeah, that design just loses so much of his intimidation factor without the red eye for me.

It would be cool if each color could be used as others have said. Like Yellow is his neutral passive color, blue is a way to show that he is “happy” either an experiment has gone well or something else positive, red is obviously associated with rage so that checks out, then green could be when he is going full mad scientist like how Tarantulas has green eyes in beast mode or how Shockblast is completely insane.

I agree with both of everyone saying yellow and red, but furthermore purple should not be slept on. Especially lighter purples.

Yes he is. They lost the trademark on his name, so they called him something else. They even released a G1 Shockwave figure under the Shockblast name when they still lost the trademark.

He's a different take on Shockwave. Just like how different takes on Optimus or Megatron are

Shockwave wasn't really even fully defined until the 2010s. Different takes were all over the place for him. Sometimes he was loyal, sometimes he wasn't. Sometimes he was a scientist, sometimes he wasn't.
