I phased out of the IDW comics for a while but when I heard that the Visionaries were in Transformers it felt like a wonderful fever dream. It's a shame that Visionaries never caught on, looking back it was a super-cool setting.
I like the idea of a shared universe, but it really needs to be more cohesive Rather than random. Transformers, G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K.? That's good. Transformers, Barbie and M.U.S.C.L.E.? Not great.
I agree! It only felt validating because I loved Visionaries and was convinced it had been relegated to history's trashpile, so it was fun to see them get a reference and redesign.
It's ultimately a shame that they got shoehorned into Transformers rather than being standalone or merged with a more suitable Hasbroverse franchise.
Plus it felt so forced since the other properties only seemed to exist in the universe suddenly and out of the blue when it was convenient for marketing purposes. Didn't feel organic at all.

I guess the Dead Universe thing was IDW's way to explain why a race of 4-million year old robots can have an "old man" among them when they're all "old men/women". Had to find some way to make him twice as old without having a truly unmanageable timeline to deal with.
That's one thing I like better about the new comic book, the war only being active for a hundred(s) of years makes it easier than dealing in such big numbers as the G1 usage of millions.
Man that cover is AMAZING. The composition of all the elements is really great. Shockwaves clinical, creepy pose. The torture implements above him hidden in the shadows to contrast the light shining on shockwave. The colors. God this comic rocks

My biggest complaint about this series so far is the killing off of Warpath
I think he would of been perfect for this series, especially with the parallels to real world conflicts, having a dynamic where heās the young and aggressive auto bot, would of contrasted nicely with the way Optimus is written here.
Shame to see that entire squad get wiped out

Itās clearly Kup but at first glance it *does* almost look like Shockwave is holding his pre-empurata IDW head.
That would be really cool if they kept that from the IDW comics.
